[Guide] Proper Instructions To Download From Megaupload Without Alexa Toolbar!

This is a method that I have found on the web. It requires no installation of the Alexa Toolbar which has potential spyware danger. But this method requires a little meddling of the registry. I have tested it myself and it works (for me). If you're uncomfortable with it, please do not try it. Otherwise, follow the steps and you'll do fine.



Step 1
- Goto START -> Run...
- Type in regedit

Step 2
- Select the following code:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\internetSetting\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform]

or

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\internetSetting\User Agent\Post Platform]

Step 3
- Right-click on Post Platform and select New -> String Value

Step 4
- Key in Alexa Toolbar.

Step 5
- Double-click on it and a window prompt will pop up. Key in 1 under Value data and press OK.

The whole process is now completed! IE will detect that Alexa Toolbar is installed and allows you to download. Close the Registry Editor and go ahead and try one MegaUpload link.
It should work, and not asking you to try their premium services/install toolbar anymore. If it doesn't works, try restarting your computer and try again.

I'm curious, why would u want your system to think you have alexa toolbar? Ive downloaded tons of stuff off megaupload perfectly fine without ever hearing of it.

From what I have briefly read just now, Alexa toolbar is simply a datamining BHO (Browser Helper Object), a malicious one at that, so I don't see why you would need it for megaupload.

^ That's because in some countries, all the download slots assigned are in use and you will not be able to download the file. Happens very frequently to me, in fact, all the time when I tried to download from there.

It states that users with the Alexi Toolbar have the privilege to enjoy unlimited downloads around the clock. But, as mentioned, it might have some spyware. That's why I guess Sting came up with this guide to download from Megaupload unlimitedly, without having the risk of having spywares.

There are alot of people who cant download from Megaupload. With this fake "toolbar", they now can.


I personally feel that buying the premium account is worth it as most downloads now comes with megaupload. I bought a lifetime one and i hadn't regret since. :D

Hey, Ive expanded the codes.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\internetSetting\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform]
or
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\internetSetting\User Agent\Post Platform]


Just browse to the folder, step by step.
For example, double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, then WINDOWS, then CURRENTVERSION and so on until you reached Post Platform.

Follow Step 3 after that.

AH..icic..now I get it! I am so slow..haha..thanks for the explanation ^^ Actually for now, the toolbar did not cause any pop ups etc..in fact it blocks pop ups.. but I guess I would still remove it, just in case =)

Another question: Do I need to install the toolbar before doing all these? After the first step, I could not find anything to type in the codes or to select them.

No, you do not need to download the toolbar to do those.

Thanks for sharing this piece of information! Its really useful. I had no idea that the Alexa Toolbar contains spyware though.
And yes, before I downloaded that toolbar, megaupload was always giving me loads of problems regarding some slots used up and other likewise stuff.

sorry for bumping this thread, but i dont think this trick works anymore. i've tried to use it but found out that they've changed versions to megaupload 2.0 so i think they figured out that we were bypassing their "download the alexa toolbar!" trick.

I've found out a few more methods to download from Megaupload without the problem of spyware.

Briefly, they are, from most reliable:

1) Download the toolbar and modify it, OR
2) Use a proxy server so that they'll think you're a US resident, OR
3) Go to one of the MU premium link generator websites and get a link generated.

It takes ages for someone as long-winded as me to explain the steps of each method, so I'll only do it if anyone wants to know .... any takers?
