yeah i watched the openning ceremony last night and the match.

as for who will win, i don't think the wallabies will. their form isn't that good. not compared to the NZ all blacks or the south african springboks or the english team. so i go for those 3...but as an outsider chance, i go for the japanese team...hehe...i mean, their soccer team did pretty well in the world cup last year didn't they? har har.

yeah....wallabies...were really really really really etc etc rusty...i didn't watch much....was at work..then when i got home...had to catch up here :D so i only watched the last twenty.....love roff....he's sooo good...

missed wendell's try... a bit of a shame...but oh well...

lol...its gonna be a long 6 weeks of footy.....i'm just a bit worried....won't it be stinking hot in 5-6 weeks.......??

i watched it on tv earlier....new zealand absolutely flogged italy...gee i feel sorry for those italian guys... and then when they scored their first try, all the italian fans went crazy....too bad it wasn't a more even game...i like going for the underdogs..

Im not really a big fan of rugby, but i will be following England....i dont even understand the rules....

Jonny Wilkinson is a favourite with my friends, and plays for the Newcastle Falcons! My PE teacher knows the team coach personally and some of the Falcons do charity events to help us raise money at the school. The most memorable had to be the time they played netball with out teachers and our team in skirts! They had shorts underneath though hehe...but they were all great sports. She had most of the Falcons at her wedding too!!

Ive also seen the adidas adverts Jonny made with Becks...he taught him how to kick a rugby ball, and Becks taught him how to take a kick with a football... :D Adidas (http://www.adidas.com/uk/) click on campaigns and then kicking it....

i think jay can play scrumhalf or maybe even winger i read somewhere before that he's supposed to be able to run quite fast.. anyway i know of a few basketballers in my school who can play rugby as well.

the italians are not poorthing enough!! singapore still holds the record for the worst defeat.. 198-0 or something against hongkong!!! haha

i love rugby!!!!!!!!!!! go the wallabies!!!!!!!! yeh i was at the opening ceremony and first match on friday night. it was so mad!!!! i was up on the 4th row from the sideline, the players look so cool!!! i think the finals will b between england and nz. im not goin for nz, EVER. the wallabies didnt play all that well, but if they play at their top, i think that they may get into the grand finals. that will be good..... :excited: i also really like to play. man the season at skool jus finished, i really wann get sum action! sometimes i can be cruel, though but i think it is fun. :laughing:

im just wondering. why dont asians hav good rugby players or good teams? the only asians are the japanese, they're not even chinese! why cant china get together a team? are they too crap? ill go play for them! but then i want to play for the wallabies.......but still, they should make a team. who here actually plays rugby?

perhaps they don't play the sport or not many ppl are interested. it's just like you won't find many ppl in australia playing a sport like grit iron coz that's more of an american sport. americans on the other hand don't play cricket like we do here.

but speaking of the japanese, i felt they did pretty well against the scottish team last night. their disadvantage was the fact that they're smaller, but they tried so hard tho. i thought the scottish team played rather poorly. they made too many mistakes, and didn't seem to take the japanese team seriously.

so i'm guessing you watch delayed matches or do you have cable? yes they play on weekdays but in melb they don't show the matches only highlights, but i think melb and syd have similar tv schedule anyway. the only live matches they're showing are on friday and saturday canada v NZ, australia v romania and sth africa v england.

yeah they do have a rugby 7 in hk, i heard about it from my brother, even if they had a national team i don't think they'll get very far, they don't even play the normal game in rugby 7, i mean they only have half the amount of players on the field when they play.

i find that it sucks how the rugby world cup is in australia but we only ever get to see one live game and all the rest are just highlights, what's the fun in having your country host a world cup and we don't even get to see any of the games?

yeah that is kinda spastic. defeats the purpose of having the comp here if we don't even get to watch it. but you see, it's all about ratings and money. i mean, honestly, who'd wanna watch namibia vs romania? ppl want to watch the big matches where the well known teams are playing, so that's why we only get high-lights. it was the same with the soccer world cup last year. channel seven weren't interested at all in getting the rights to broadcast the first 2 rounds and the knockouts coz they thought nobody would want to watch them. they only bought the rights to the semi's and final. it sucks but that's the way commercial tv works.

It's sooo bloody small! It's even smaller then our Blendisloe Cup (A cup between rugby in Auss and NZ) but it's in gold... doubt it's real gold! But it's World Cup man!!! Gotta be bigger to suit the world status!!! Not jst like a normal cup u win at a local game or something!

yeah, yeah! i was thinking the same thing too! the cup really doesn't reflect the special event. i mean this only occurs once every 4 years. even grand slam tennis cups are bigger!

Has anyone seen those rugby world cup ads on tv where they show a specific player from a country, for example they show George Gregan in his Wallibies uniform and on the bottom of the screen it shows his name they did that with some England player as well but when it came to Canada they just showed 3 guys standing together and on the bottom of the screen it said 'The Canadians'.

I thought that it was so funny, Canada mustn't have any well known players.

i felt a bit embarrasssed yesterday while watching the 90-something to 6 thrashing of Romania by the Wallabies. i felt sorry for the Romanians...sometime around the Wallabies 10th try, i decided to cheer for the Romanians....how sad.

anybody watch the South Africa vs England match? i was betting SA to win but the English played quite well! and boy, their kicker Jonny Wilkinson was so good!

and what about the Japan vs France game? at one point, when the scores were 20-19 France, i thought Japan might have a chance....they tried so hard! :bow:

Does anyone know the score? I didnt finish watching itUmm...are you sure Japan was playing Canada because they're not even in the same pool as each other. You could have been watching the France vs. Japan match. The final score for that game was 51-29 with France winning.

to add to that, Canada's team jersey is red, black and white, whereas France's jersey is predominantly sky-blue...and they look more like cycling uniforms. :happy:

yeh jonny is the biggest threat to us, but we hav elton flatley to battle with him!!! elton is pretty good, but not as good as jonny....i think that our overall team is better than the poms though, look at our lineup against theirs. yes, kiwis to hav a good lineup also, but they are losing good players which are being replaced by amateurs. though this is a sorta good thing, it also makes their team more vulnerable cos australia can pick out positions to attack.....thats all from me now!

yeh i wanted to watch it as well, but i was out for dinner so i got it taped, and when i came back and watched it, it only went to 66mins then stopped!!! :-x but the next day when i heard my frends talking about it, i was disappointed. aus can surely do better than that! and that was their strongest lineup, wasnt it? :dry: man that sucked. if that is all they can do to ireland, imagine what it will be like against the kiwis (BOOO!!) and then south africa (yay) and england (yay)!!!! they will get pretty caned! i think eddie jones should be doin better.......

that was a very close match, but the irish were very good. the wallabies just made it in the end >.<...thought that they were gonna lose, but lucky during the last minutes or so, they hung on to the ball ^^. but i didnt like it how they kept kicking the ball out so that they could get out of tight spots, it got annoying.

but it was funny when that irish guy pulled one of the guys on wallabies team by the hair. that moment was very funny -> well the way the commentators talked about it.

i was so anxious when watching the aust v ireland match!!! :crazy: the wallabies will have to try a lot harder than that...

but NZ got a scare from Wales too last night! for a while i thought Wales might pull a win over the all blacks...but it was funny how the commentators were saying that the winner of the match would go on to play South Africa in the quarters and the loser would play England...in think i'd prefer to lose! the S.A team seems a lot stronger than the English....

some other football news...the kangaroos beat great Britain in the first ashes test!!! :thumbsup: did anybody see the match? i taped it coz it was on at 5am this morning.
the funny thing was when Adrian Morley received a red card for a careless high tackle in the 12th second of the game!! it was like the first tackle and he was out! poor guy...was a bit too excited....he might miss the entire ashes series....

Yeah....I watched it too last night with my sister...I never like rugby (I prefer soccer, Italian Serie A league, English Premier League, etc)...but yesterday was a bit different. We were like shouting, supporting The All Blacks. Sadly, they were lost. The Wallabies played damn good, exceptional defence. I think also that The All Blacks yesterday was lacking of creativity in breaking the superb defence by The Wallabies. Everytime we saw the All Blacks almost touch the line...we were like, "Owww....."
I don't really mind of who is winning The Rugby World cup...but hope that All Blacks can win the 3rd place.

I just stayed in NZ for a couple of moths...I don't really know the rules of playing rugby...so, I want to ask one thing...Why didn't the All Blacks just kick the ball through the goal pose if they can't break the defence? Is this some kind of rule that you can't kick through the goal pose as much as you want?

Hehe..bless them all....the last time England won anything major like that was in '66 when Bobby's England won the world cup at Wembley.

It was such a tight gme...Australia really deserved their second place as they fought back so many times!! England shouldnt have given them the chance but they took advantage of every slip-up and caught up. It was partly luck i suppose the ball fell to Jonny in the last minute. I may not know a lot about rugby but either side deserved the trophy.

Its going to be chaotic when Clive Woodward and Martin Johnson bring the cup back to England hehe...and i hope Jonny will play for the Falcons against the Wasps on the 29th! My friends are mascots for that game and i might be able to go!

It was a good game....my heart was like felt so intense, especially when Aussie scored through the penalty kick just before the second hard finished. Hehehe...the drama of the game was extremely intense. Something that quite rare to happen.

Aussie also done superbly well done, making the game full of dramas. But why did The Wallabies didn't try to make a drop goal too? Is this somekind of pride of The Wallabies that they won't try to score on drop-goal?

pretty kewl how in the last minute flatley kicked a goal for aust and then there was extra time. and then during the extra time, aus and eng was on a tie agains :wacko: and stoopid wilkinson kicks in the last 20secs or so.... :cry: ahhh so not fair!! me wanted the wallabies to win!! it was sooo close!!

hehe my mum said that they shouldnt have let kate sing in the beginning coz she was pregnant. But i also think that even though England won, they dun really deserve it, coz throughout the game they score by kicking, they never did really tackle... that's what i reckon the game of rugby is about, tackle and the triumph you feel after ur team scored.... England only rely on jonny to kick to score... If Johnny left the team or sumthin, England sure wont be this strong...

actually..the only drop goal Jonny scored is the last minute drop goal..he never score any drop goal other than those penalties in the match..so..it's not all depend on Jonny..England do score tries..didn't you watch the whole game? :? ..by the way..i also noticed that Jonny is a great tackler..he never missed any of his tackle in the game..England defense n tackle well..the Auzzie tactic is well expose..they used those defense tactic so they (I THINK) don't really have the power to kick drop goal :D :P the English have couple pro kicker in their team as well as the expert goal kicking coach..soo..they r so good in it :D

Hehe....the Jonny hype in Newcastle is huge! His mum who doesnt like to watch him play was shopping at our local supermarket during the match and the shelfstackers rushed to tell her the final score! Hes now been made a freeman of the city of Newcastle. In olden times, a freeman would be allowed to graze his cattle on our town moor..but today, its more of an honorary position.

My friends are mascots for the Falcons on Saturday. (The Falcons come to our school a lot, once even played netball in skirts against out team for charity hehe) My friends are disappointed Jonny might not be playing, but hed most likely turn up, so they should be able to meet him. The tickets are selling so quickly! I think it wil be shown live on Sky though, so ill watch it there... :happy:

Ooohh...the world cup is coming to the Kingston Park Stadium for the Falcons vs Wasps match tomorrow...which is 5 minutes away from my house! And my friends are guards of honour (whatever that is...) and they will be on the pitch, with 10,000 people in the stadium, millions at home watching it on Sky live, next to Jonny and Lawrence, not too far away from the cup! They also got on the national news yesterday when they were filmed playing rugby with the Falcons players! :D

If i had known this would happen earlier i would have picked rugby for my options!! :oops:
