JCNET Spotlight Forum
The JCNET Spotlight Forum is specifically geared towards emerging entertainers, writers, and artists. It will also provide JCNET members with a place to post their own works, network, and also have fun.

So far here are some of the subforums that I thought could be included in the Spotlight Forum:

1. Spotlight - Rising Star
The Spotlight - Rising Star is specifically for new and emerging entertainers in Asia, or entertainers who haven't gained much recognition and should get more recognition, and will change from a month to month basis. Entertainers will receive things such as a biography introduction, some shared files, a small gallery, and helpful websites. Requests for Spotlights will be collected throughout the month.

2. JCNET Rising Star
This spotlight will be specifically reserved for members who are entertainers, writers, or artists and would like to get a little recognition, and maybe gain a few fans. Musicians will need to be able to provide clear recordings with good mixes, images, and a biography. Writers will need to be able to provide good writing samples and a biography. Artists will need to be able to provide quality artwork with a biography. Auditions/Submissions for Spotlights will occur throughout the month. This spotlight will be working in conjunction with the Reading Room, the Art Studio, and the Music Lounge.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thoughts? Anything at all? I need more input here, guys! Help me out. ^_^

WANTED HELP
PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent developments, all lists have been removed until further discussion.

Spotlight Judges
Will help to pick final submissions for Spotlights and will help to make the final pick for each individual category every month. If you are interested in this, please make sure you have some skill in whatever category you choose to specialize in. You are allowed to specialize in all three categories if you're talented in all three.

Volunteers
Come up with ideas, contests, etc. to help out a bit, and also help review/critique different categories. (Please pick the ones you're interested in.)

It's great to volunteer, but keep in mind, this is a commitment that you'll have to seriously consider! Words are great, but action is EVERYTHING.

question! are we going to focus on music?
or can spotlights be actors / dancers / other entertainers as well?
and what about art or writing for general spotlight?

i think there will be something like that jayfanworks forum available for all general sharing of creative stuff, right? so is the spotlight just to bring into the front excellent creations there? or is the spotlight section the actual forum for sharing?

Hm. I think it's good to expand the spotlight to include all forms of entertainers/artists, etc. And I like the idea about the art/writing spotlights. Maybe we can have a separate subforum for the general sharing of creative stuff that isn't Jay related.

Will edit my original post.

EDIT: Okay, I added a bunch of stuff to it.

Yay! Thanks for putting the spotlight discussions together & fleshing the ideas out. A Spotlight forum huh? Can newbies get a spotlight too!!~ So that we encourage them to be great members from the very beginning.

This is just an idea... but instead of spotlighting on a member's 'talents'... perhaps we can have 4 spotlights, working them up through the JCNET heirachy ranks? Current ranks as Karen's post (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19959)

NB: Everything is subject to change
- Registered Users
- Registered Users + (newbies)
- JCNETizen
- The 6 Social Groups
- Moderator
- Super Moderator
- Administrator

As such
1) Newbie Spotlight: Best new-comer award (chosen by mentor team)
2) JCNETizen Spotlight: (Based on test-score result? Other factors?)
3) Newest Social-Group inductees: Spotlight on newest inductees (including a short 200 word intro by accepting group for each new inductee?)
4) Mod/SMod/Amin Spotlight: Introduce our friendly admin/management team (Unlucky raffle. Loser has to prose on about how fabulous they are... HAHAHA)

This can be done in a thread, like Member of the month (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15690) announcements. All are announce at the top of one thread (or 4 seperate threads... in the spotlight forum?!) and people can cheer them on, keep track of past winners, etc. That way the focus remains on members working up the ranks. Becoming productive/friendly/ambition-driven demons~! MAUAHHAA. Hmm... speaking of which... the new system doesn't leave room for VIP (MotM) inductees... how does that work?

Perhaps this kind of 'Spotlighting' can be kept in announcements as another sub-forum, and the JCNET Rising Star Spotlight be announced/supported by the celebrities/artists forum?

I think it's important that we do have a spotlight for members' talents because soompi has something like that, and it's hugely successful/popular. I know a lot of artists, like myself, would totally take the chance to jump all over it because it's a way to get our work out to the public in an easy way, and it provides a forum to allow people to critique you and stuff like that.

Though, I do like your member idea, maybe we can do that as well within the Spotlights, so not just talents and what not, but also members as well.

I'd like to be a volunteer for JCNET Rising Star Spotlight and JCNET Writing Studio Spotlight. (: I can help out with writing articles for the Rising Star Spotlight and can also serve as a critique/reviewer for the Writing Studio Spotlight.

Another thing we could consider farther in the future is featuring older artists or really popular ones who people are too daunted to try out completely. We could include things like our list of the songs we think were the best from the artist or THE album to check out if they do check out any. The format I'm thinking of is much like Project J (http://projectj.net/).

I'd love writing album reviews or Asian entertainment editorials/articles too, but that's not really spotlight-ish, is it? ._.

Well, when you put it that way... I guess spotlighting on talent will still be awarding members to be more active and participate on the forum. Which is always good~

Either way... even both ways work for me

Also, I was going to suggest before.. how about twilighthush as the spotlight leader? Are you keen? or are you invested in other projects as well?

07-29-2006, 02:52 AM
^Well, I'm already a leader for the Development Team ... I think ^/)^ but yeah, I wouldn't mind spearheading this as well since it was sort of my brainchild. XD But I'm really really really hoping I can find other people who would also like to lend their leadership skills to this.

I think your idea is great though, and we can probably find some way to incorporate it into the entire concept. Maybe it can have its own subforum? We'll have to discuss this more in detail!

2) JCNETizen Spotlight: (Based on test-score result? Other factors?)

^its possible to get the same test score as another member yes? are we going to look at their contributions, number meaningful posts, participation in contests, if they have any talent in writing, singing, and art...etc etc?

i like the idea of the rank spotlight.

07-29-2006, 03:12 AM
^ In terms of if they have talents or not, we already have spotlights for that, so that kind of defeats the purpose of looking at their talents. We'd probably have to look at the kind of posts they write and what not.

Thank you everyone for supporting this! I've updated the main page with some information, since Karen put up a post with the main sketch of what the forums will look like.

Instead of having individual spotlights for the Music Lounge, the Art Studio, and the Reading Room, we're going to consolidate them into the JCNET Rising Star forum.

I hope more people volunteer, because right now we don't have enough manpower that it'll take to do something like this~~ <3

i'm gonna volunteer to do artwork and promotions. basically when we have spotlights like this it will be more visually appealing if it was done ala magazine spread type of thing no? :bleh: like those thread starting thing they do at soompi.

I can help out with the Spotlight - Rising Star. I love to get to know more about new and current artists. I seek information on them and their music, download and stuffs. It's one of my hobbies when I come online besides visiting forums. I don't mind being a judge or volunteer.

Thanks to everyone for volunteering! So far we have a team of 8 people, including myself! I'm hoping even more people will step up to the plate, especially as judges, because we still need more judges.

So, talk to your friends and get them to consider! <3

i applied for being mod in any fanfic section that might be strted and have run over here *pants* to apply here too (am i getting muddled??)

writing is my area of expertise and i critique, run the short story battles in the soompi fan fic section as well as write. I also edit reviews on the main soompi site.

so .. i'll be happy to be a writing judge :)

Hmmm... I think I can volunteer myself for Rising Star and JCNet Rising Star spotlight.

However, I have some questions in my mind.

How is the whole system like? Do the judges come together (on MSN or any other chat device [I'll put email in this category too]) and discuss before making a decision? Or is it more of a team rotation system like 3 or 4 members on 'duty' for this month and for the next month the 'duty' shifted on to another group of judges?

petricia -- The way it will be done, contestants will post their submissions in an auditions forum or something (still have to work out the details) and we will critique the submissions and give it a score on a scale of 1-10. The contestant with the highest score will get the spotlight.

littlefishie - Yay! <33 I remember you were one of the first people who read that fanfic I still need to finish. XD;

I think that's a really good idea :)

Maybe twilighthush can pick a one-shot from the fic section and, with the authors permission of course, ask those interested in being judges to critique it.

I think as well it would be good to know what books that the judges like to read, what authors etc to show background :)

ok...moving on...to another discussion topic please...

how do you think we should go about choosing the Spotlight for popular artists? i don't think the artist has to necessarily be "new" or an extremely popular artist of the day, but maybe someone who has made a lot of contributions to music or whatever (*cough* i'd like to see a wu bai feature because i'm a dork but not many people like him so rawr) can also be featured for that month / two months / however long we can manage it.

are we going to have a poll / vote situation like d-addicts where they vote for drama of the month?

Alright I have removed a few posts, and Twilight will be editing a few of her posts as well. I apologize to anyone whose post was removed.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the future of JCnet. Disagreements about other things can be handled in PMs. Again, this is simply a planning thread, so nothing is set in stone. Until our admin, jayx8318x says anything, everything is still possible to change. We would like to thank twilighthush for taking a leadership position in organizing this, however she is currently not in charge of recruitment for this new forum. The Mods will delegate someone soon, and hopefully they will be able to work with twilight to get these ideas finalized. Until then people, continue on with your ideas/suggestions for the Spotlight forums.

If you have no clue what I am talking about, good, pretend I said nothing ^^

Yea, but its still nice for us to know who is interested in this position, so when we do get things organized, we can go about and find them all again to do the recruitment process.

Well... As is fairly obvious, I am very interested in moderating this, since... ;__; It's kind of like my baby project. *cuddles it*

But if I don't get to moderate, it's okay too~ I'm sure there's a reason for everything and respect Karen's decisions.

 i had a cool post of stuff and my browser dies... aish

anyway

what i basically sugegsted was that aside from a mod who would runt he spotlight - why not make those who volunteered a 'junior team' type thing to organise activities and promote artists, writers and singers etc.
It would be a shame to waste the momentum of anyone keen to help and do things... and teamwork is what will make a section thrive :)

I'm only going to type this here because it's the first of the few that appears near the top of my new posts.

To all who have volunteered, please ensure that you are committed & will really spare the time to do what you have volunteered for. I say for myself, I didn't volunteer for much except things I can do even when I'm not in front of the computer simply because I know I don't have the time.

So I hope that this surge of modding/volunteering activity is not just a phase for everyone and that some months later, all this will just die off and we'll be back where we were before.

Now you guys can go repeat that at other places. I"m too lazy to type the same thing many times.. T_T

Aww!! That might not be true. If you have a good ear for music and can listen to it in an unbiased way, or a good eye for art, or if you're good at reading lit, then you're qualified!! *sends you lots of love* <333

I don't know if this has been mentioned here or the private planning forum yet. But aside from spotlighting a member that has talent, how about the social group members pick one of their peers to be spotlighted...just kinda like how we do use to do the Member of the Month thing. Talk about how they've contributed to the forums, memorable posts/topics...oh how about a ROAST!!!
