View Full Version : [IMPT] Recruiting mods for new JCNET

You must be a member of a social group (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/faq.php?faq=jcnet_faq_item#faq_jcnet_faq_item4) to apply
I only stuck this here so I can keep everything concerning the revamp in one place.
As most of you are aware, there are changes to be made in the coming months.
One of which includes moderation of the current and additional forums we will be adding.
OVERVIEW
The Supermoderators will continue to be able to moderate the entire forum, but we will be needing regular Moderators that are responsible for certain forums.
I felt it might be a better idea to recruit non-vips for the job as we all know, there is a hierarchy problem here where people are deathly afraid of senior members. So this is an attempt to bridge that gap a little.
Each of the Supermoderators will be given jurisdiction over which forums to watch, and a Moderator will be assigned to actually moderate them. Think of yourself as their apprentice. They will be your guide. But in the end, you are responsible for what goes on in that forum(s).
I only want people who are serious about doing this to volunteer. This is NOT an invitation to gain some authority and not do any work. If you sign up, you have to work.
I want to round up the people now, so as we're discussing what changes are to be made, all the current/new mods are updated on how to handle various situations and the new policies.
DUTIES/JOB SCOPE
- Multiple moderators can be assigned to a forum
- Therefore you are not required to log in every single day. Doing so helps. But there will be other Mods and Supermods around most of the time. But if I see you leave most of the work to them, then there's no point in leaving you as a Mod.
- You are to keep your forum orderly, adhering to the site forum rules.
- You can make up specific rules for your own forum (as long as they don't contradict w/ the site rules)
- You are to make stickies/announcements for your forum as you see fit or as delegated by me
- You can ban members who misbehave in your forum (there are banning guidelines which you will be informed of)
- You can come up with activities for your forum (e.g. if your forum is karaoke/art works you can hold contests)
- You are to report regularly to the moderator forum to keep updated on what the other mods have been doing. Or to get some direction from me or the supermods.
That's the basics of it
HOW TO APPLY
If for whatever reason you feel embarassed, or shy to respond here, send me a PM to let me know you're interested.
Just because you volunteer doesn't mean you'll be picked and don't be offended if you're not. I'll have to discuss with the current mods/vips over who we feel can do the job.
Last update 7-28-06
Current volunteers:
(There is no quota, if 5 or 50 people volunteer, I'll try to use as many of you as I can)
Anyone who responds with anything other than a definite YES from what I can tell will NOT be considered. You have to let me know you absolutely 100% want to do this.
If you say "I want to help but.." or "I can help IF you need more people." then I'm interpreting that as a "NO"

I'll volunteer! It'll definitely motivate me to become more involved in the forums again, as opposed to checking in every day and leaving without posting a single thing...
As for which forum... I'd be happy with downloads, fan works, news, entertainment, or artists.

Another thing, if you volunteer, I think it would be good if you indicate what kind of sub-forum (it might or might not exist right now) you would be interested in moderating.
I'm not saying you will get what you want, but it would give us a good idea of the areas we will definitely be getting help in.

Hmmmmmmm, would it be possible to provide a 'job scope' on what the moderator so that we can be clear of what are the responsibilities involved before we actually volunteer. I'm sure you wouldn't want people signing up for this and end up not being able to take on the role. For example, is there like a commitment to log in everyday to check the forum etc?
Think it would help for us to understand and think things through before we volunteer.
I agree with cacky, I'm interested, but I would need to see if I can meet the workload in the amount of time I have!

yesyes, i didnt actually see this thread before...but in the main thread about P&D i did mention i would lke to become a mod...
as cacky said, a job scope would be rather helpful, so that ppl can see whether they will be able to fulfill the requirements and do the job or not.
but i for one, want to get this mod job 98% . the other 2% is..... when im doing "x"
also...since i remember it now, i and will probably forget later on, i love to help people and if i were a mod, it would motivate me even more to help ppl and make this forum a better place, as everyone wants it to be!

i would like to volunteer as well! i might not be around 24/7 but i like helping people too! [eg. pointing them in the right direction, making sure they dont cross the line]. i do want to do this, i want to keep n00bs out and contribute to the site! [man, i sound hyper]
if you ask me which forum i'd like to manage, i guess it could be anything at all. i dont really mind as long as i can help out! *shakes head vigorously*

I would like to express my interest for something I'm rather familiar with, which is the news section. Like what littlefishie said, I think it'll help me be more involved in the forums rather than simply logging in everyday and not making a single post.
This'll be another way I can continue to contribute to this site, of course, I will still continue to provide translations as and when I have the time to. And yes, a job scope would be helpful.

I would love to help out as a mod too, but as others have said, i'm not sure of my future workload and i cannot guarantee that i'll be around all the time since i'm starting uni in two weeks! But I'll make sure that i'll work once i have the chance to!

i'm willing to be modly as long as i'm not banished to a jolin forum *cough*
i kid.
god knows i spend enough time on here anyway, might as well be doing something helpful.
if there's a debate or a smut forum, i'm there :P
i wouldn't mind helping out with general discussion like small talk or social forums or the chinese / everyone else entertainment "sections" either. oh and writing, i s'pose. i'd love to see more writing posted on here.
edit: *cries* why do you do this to me, karen? i thought there was love here, LOVE.

:| I would love to help out in any way. Especially since I run a rather large forum myself and have quite a bit of experience. But. *Points morosely at the user info on the left* Not yet a Regular. Even if I am an honorary member of LQP ^/)^. <3

Is there some kind of system in which we can show our support for certain candidates? Posting in this thread would clutter too much space and take up too many pages. Or maybe someone like the mods/VIPs will put up a poll or something later?

I've updated the first post to answer the job scope question.
Is there some kind of system in which we can show our support for certain candidates?
If there is someone you don't think should do the job, send me a PM. For the most part I can tell who will and who won't. I don't want to allow people to publicly "cheer on" other people as it might make the ones that don't have as much support feel inadequate. So far I think everyone who has volunteered is very well qualified.

I can help out with Spotlight Artists too.

Basically, I log in everyday and I really want to do my part for the forum. Any parts of the forum will be good for me, except Current Issues and Debate (I usually don't go into that part of the forum). However, I'll be more comfortable in places that I visit more often, such as Fan works, Entertainment or News.

i'd like to volunteer (: i'm here pretty much everyday [even during the school year when i'm not suppose to be on the computer =P ] and since JCNET is like a second home to me, why not help out? as for which forum to work with.. hmm, i think working somewhere in the general forums would be my favor. maybe the artist & celeb, entertainment and download subforums would be most ideal for me.

I would like to volunteer as a moderator.=D I am on JCNET almost everyday even when school is in session. At times, i might get caught up in schoolwork, but i still have time to come on JCNET in the end. I don't truly mind what i would moderate and all, but i would prefer; Entertainment,News, Artist&Celebs, or anything really. I would be glad to help out as much as I can, since i am on often.

Karen -- Here's an idea. Maybe we can have different levels of moderation. For example, Super Moderators (which you have), VIP Moderators, Senior Moderators, Junior Moderators, etc.
Judging from the comments, a lot of people have been volunteering who really want to help JCNET grow and develop, who want to take a more active stance on these forums. The thing is, there are also members like myself who might not have 28395792837 posts and might not even be a Regular yet (;___;) who would like to aid in the process somehow, but don't feel "qualified". Maybe for those people, they would be able to be lower level moderators with less moderating privileges (until they prove themselves worthy and so on and so forth and can get promoted). That way, they won't feel like they're stepping on anyone's shoes and can still help out with the forums.
The very idea of being able to be "part" of JCNET's development is something that might really excite some people (like myself XD;) because it gives you a sense of being able to actually make a difference in something, and to be able to claim something as part of yours, something you can watch grow. It's like having a baby ;o; Only an online baby. XD; I'm sure you know the feeling, though.
I don't know if it's possible, but maybe it's something to consider.
I would be interested in doing spotlight artists, downloads/requests, or news translations.

i like twilighthush's idea of maybe the different ranks of mods. cuz i know there are indeed people who dont belong in groups who are dedicated and SINCERE to help JCNET not just cuz they want attention and think they can control everything before them *coughlikeacertainsomeoneweknowcough* see my hint (=
twilighthush
07-27-2006, 09:01 PM
Autocratic control -- isn't that something we're trying to get rid of, so we can have a more community-oriented, positive environment? Ugh. :| And hey.. I dunno if that little hint was a joke, was it? Because if it wasn't, that's not very nice to say about someone, even if it is true... :\

i would like to volunteer to be a moderator if its possible. i'm also on pretty much everyday. i'd like to help around with the newbies, directing them in the right direction, welcoming them, showing them the forum rules if they havnt seen them, etc. i know im only a JCNET Regular and i havnt been here as long as some other members who volunteered, but i know that i can do this  i'd love to help and make difference. i am very interested in watching our 'online baby' (twilighthush: lol) grow. i want to be part of the growth of this website. so i volunteer to be a newbie forum mod.
junnleenfaah
07-27-2006, 09:23 PM
twilighthush- er wait, did you think i was suggesting autocratic control? eep, if you thought thats what i meant, it' definitely NOT what a meant, hehe. i guess i didnt state myself clearly, but i agree with you on having a community oriented positive environment. sorry if i wasnt clear and sounded like a jerk =/ btw, yes, it's a joke about somebody (= [but it's not you if you were wondering, dont worry!]
twilighthush
07-27-2006, 09:41 PM
juun -- Haha, no, I knew what you meant, I was referring to your little thing about how some people were controlling. And I know you weren't referring to me. It's not that difficult to figure out who you were talking about. XD;

Maybe we can have different levels of moderation. For example, Super Moderators (which you have), VIP Moderators, Senior Moderators, Junior Moderators, etc.
I'm gonna have to say no on this unless you can convince me some more on how this is a good idea. That's just too many levels of distinction than I want to keep track of. Maybe it's because I don't understand how they are different in terms of what actions they can take. If you're implying, Junior Moderators can only direct and guide, but it's Senior Moderators that can manipulate threads (lock, move, edit, etc.) and so on, then again that's just too much. You're either a Moderator or Supermoderator, I think that's plenty.
twilighthush
07-28-2006, 05:31 AM
^ Mm, now that I think about it, you're right, especially since you have moderators designated for individual forums as it is. xD; Nevermind then, it was just an idea.

Oohh I want to be a moderator! *excited* It has always been my wish. Ask akane. ^^ I don't mind which forum, but I have a fondness for the malaysia forum and social lounge. And my group forum of course. Lol.
I can help too! :wink2: So far I am only a 'Registered Users+' and dont really have alot of posts, but well, I am here almost everyday too.. So yea, if there's any area that needs me I would love to volunteer... May it be directing newbies.. Anything.. I can also read chinese!
kirasuran
07-28-2006, 11:15 AM
okok count me in please!! well.. i cant really read chinese so that counts me out of quite a lot. you can stick me in the entertainment/fun and games (if that remains) nd also australia?

Hey, I thought smut was judes' forte?
Anyway, I had just posted a thread with regards to what I expect to have in the Translations section, so those who are interested to volunteer for 'translation patrol', please refer to my thread here (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19958) before making the jump into MY palour :brows:

Hey guys, there are so many new projects about atm, and I love that everyone is getting so excited and involved. But please take ONE or TWO projects (ie. mentor program, modding of one forum, etc), well, as many as you can ACTUALLY handle. You don't want to over-commit and do a half-assed job of both :wink2:
As for me, I would like to volunteer for the newbie forum. I have plenty of time now, and it's the one project I'm keen to develop and see through (my pet project as it were). I feel it has real potential to reduce a lot of the problems we're having in terms of process, and developing the culture for members to work their way up through the ranks.

I'm interested in volunteering to be a mod :D
I'm not so good with coming up with the structure of things and ideas, but in terms of organizing the forum and whatnot, I think that's something I can handle and am willing to do
I know I've been relatively inactive this summer, but when I do check the forums, I bounce from forum to forum so I don't really have a preference of where to moderate. I'm willing to look after the forum that needs the most looking-after :)

hi, i'd like to help out! probably US & Canada or Jolin (honestly, no sarcasm here).
just a warning though, i start college in <3 weeks, some i may be a bit tied up from time to time. is it possible to have more than 1 person be in charge?
-edit-
nvm, i just reread karen's post and realize that >1 person can be in charge. i'd really like to do jolin though. hopefully someone else will want to, too, but i'm not sure, i'm not really feeling the love for her. sigh.

I'd definitely want to volunteer and help out. Like alot of people who have already responded, I practically visit this site everyday. I won't be handing in half-hearted work, and I'm a responsible person.
As for preferences, probably music lounge (that's where the majority of my posts are), reading room, news/translation. Any other that needs additional staffing, I'm willing to do.

Now that I actually consider it, I'll most likely have my hands FULL with the Development Team and the Spotlight. So I guess just put me down for Spotlight only for modding. <3
ALSO: (I just read the new post Karen put up) Reading Room, Art Studio, and Music Lounge.

I'll help anywhere!
I love the international forums though...
But if not there, I can help everywhere else, just give me the basics and I'm down for it
I log in practically everyday anyway :wink2: And I'm enjoying it, so why not give a helping hand

Hmm...I'd like to make an addendum to my volunteer app as a mod :D
I still don't mind modding for any forum, but in particular I think the Downloads & Links/Non-Jay request forums could use someone to update/eliminate dead links and to clean up the forum a bit...since it has a lot of pages that people rarely check anymore (especially since a bunch are dead links)
