The Member of the Month (MotM) award is given out every month to 1 or 2 outstanding members at jay-chou.net
All the awards are named after one of Jay's songs or (starting Feb' 04) based on the contributions made by the individual. The winner gets a banner made by me or another VIP for the entire month.
Getting VIP status use to mean access to exclusive downloads, however we've grown so much that most downloads are in the public forums anyways. So getting VIP just gives you elevated status at the site, and access to some private forums.
It's just one of the ways to encourage good members whom we value very much at this site.
You'll also notice a majority of the VIPs eventually become Moderators or Super Moderators.
