Biography

TVfXQ (Tong Vfang Xien Qi), also known as 동방신기, 東方神起, and Dong Bang Shin Gi/Ki, is a five-member male K-pop group, which sings a cappella. They have debuted in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China. The five members are, from eldest to youngest, Kim Jae Joong (김재중 or HERO 在中), Jung Yun Ho (정윤호 or U-know 允浩), Park Yoo Chun (박유천 or Micky 有天), Kim Jun Su (김준수 or Xiah 俊秀) and Shim Chang Min (심창민 or MAX 昌珉).

The meaning of 'Dong Bang Shin Gi' is 'Gods Rising from the East'. This five-member dance team is made up of mere high school students who auditioned for stardom. Each member has proved his excellent talent in singing as well as dancing. This came to a successful creation of the boy band.

The boys were put in different groups among peers and other trainees in their training to be selected for the group, which was already named as Dong Bang Shin Gi. The best were chosen to be put into the group Dong Bang Shin Gi and the following were chosen.

The first to join was Kim Jun Su (김준수) who was merely 12 at that time; he was brought into the program through a TV show looking for new talent. He continued on to train for six more years to debut under the name of Xiah Junsu (시아준수). (Xiah is Asia without the "Ah" sound in Korean)

The next member to join, Jung Yun Ho (정윤호), won his audition through a dance competition. However, he was no amateur. He had tasted stardom as a backup dancer and rapper for K-pop singer Dana. His chosen stage name is U-know Yunho (유노윤호) (because when you say Yunho real fast, it sounds like U-know in English).

Kim Jae Joong (김재중), like Tamaki Nami (the Japanese pop singer), left his hometown to audition for SM Entertainment and debut under the name a fortune teller foretold years before: YoungWoong JaeJoong(영웅재중). He is also known as Hero, the translation of YoungWoong (영웅).

Shim Chang Min (심창민), one of the youngest to audition, passed the try-outs with flying colors. He joined the band on the name of ChoiKang ChangMin (최강창민) (the English counterpart to his stage name is Max).

Six months prior to the group's debut, a new member was added. The American Park Yoo Chun (박유천) changed his name to Micky YooChun (믹키유천). Originally, YooChun's English name was Micky, so he chose his English name to be part of his stage name.

Born in 1986, he was born with the blood-type O and has the personality
of someone with this blood type. He is the main vocal of the group, and is
carrying out the role of the "big brother" with Yunho. He gives the
most criticisms to the members regarding music. Jaejoong has deep thoughts and
talks straight-forwardly. His neat and tidy personality is portrayed in
the dorm they live in. Cleaning every corner of the house is blatantly
a part of this trait, but he also is interested in cooking and feeds
everyone in the group. For this reason, he is the 'mother' of the group. He has exceptional cooking skills and can prepare 15 kinds of dishes easily. He won the best-looking award from SM, and is a pretty boy, but his hobby is weight
training -- he has a great, masculine body in contrast to his feminine
face. Jaejoong is interested in people's relationships and likes to love.

Jung Yun Ho

Born in 1986, he is also an aquarius like Jaejoong. He is the team's leader and
the bass vocal part of the group. Having too many thoughts being a
distinctive character trait of an A-blood type, Yunho also carries
this trait. He won the Best Dancer award from SM and is the most talented
in dancing. His hobby is to choreograph. Yunho has experience as a rapper
from Dana's 1st album song, Diamond. He likes to play basketball, and
is talented in martial arts (hap ki do), for he placed 3rd in a contest. On the other hand, he enjoys writing fictional stories and has diverse thoughts.

A gemini born in 1986, he has the middle-low vocal part of the group.
Along with Xiah, he is the middle voice of the group. He is an important
figure that brightens up the mood and atmosphere with his funny
personality. Perhaps he couldn't hide his talent even when he was
little, for he won the highest award at the Korean/American Music
Contest and the KBN Music Contest for young adults. Yoochun is very interested
in composing and he's written over 100 songs, and the members personally like
his songs the best out of the ones the members composed. He joined the team and left his family in America, and he admits that he sometimes misses driving around Virgina. But he says that this moment, right now, is the happiest of his life.

Born on January 1, 1987, he is a capricorn. He has the middle-high vocal
part in the group. The group labels him as an innocent and bright boy.
On the other hand, he makes a 180 degree change on stage and performs
with great charisma. Junsu maintains order and balance in the group when they
face difficulty. Possibly because of his long 6 year training, he is
very empathetic and thinks a lot about people's feelings. He plays the
piano well and is very poetic -- he enjoys writing poems. One of his
dreams in life is to have his writing published into a book. One of his
motivations in his singing career is the unachieved dream of his mother
who once dreamed of being a star.

A little more on Changmin:
An aquarius born in 1988, his blood type is B. He is greedy when it comes
to music, so sometimes he cries when he isn't satisfied with his singing.
Because his parents are teachers, he is also very competitive and tries
very hard at schoolwork and reading. Though the youngest in the group,
he is the most modest and has the deepest thoughts. He can be honest and
blunt when he strongly believes that something should not be done.
Though shy at first, he is a very bright boy when you get to know him
well. He followed his friend to an SM contest and luckily won the Best
Singer award.

hey! those charms that they're selling on YesAsia were available on G-market awhile back...I love Xiah's so much...I can't decide if I like it better or Yunho's cuz they're both so artistic...and JaeJoong's set is really delicate...

finally saw those dramas Dana? I thought the two of them did a pretty good job...the First Love one was just pure eye candy...Yunho still makes me faint to this day whenever I rewatch it for the nth time...and the Masked Fencer one has great cinematography and the twist at the end isn't stupid and ridiculous...

(that was supposed to be a play on one of Yunho's shirts...I found a picture of him in a shirt that said "F---in' Freezing" and then a picture of the maple leaf...I cannot tell you how hard I laughed for hours after that...so true...it's like 13 degrees right now)
so make sure you cheer extra hard for all of us who can't go!!

that First Love ending was funny only after you get over the repulsion of seeing those two guys there...they are HILARIOUS on Xman but I really didn't like how they ended the episode like that...but I guess they were scared of the netizens...

I couldn't really decide which of the two Banjun dramas I preferred, but I agree with you Dana, after analysing the reasons why I liked them I thought the Masked Fencer one was just better overall: good cinematography, good plot, good choice of characters (Jang Hee Jin looked great...and she did a great job, and yeah...she does look closer in age...compared to Bin who's 23...*grumble grumble*), good dialogue and most of all, GOOD ENDING. The twist was a good one that MADE SENSE and WASN'T STUPID. I loved the First Love one when I only saw Part 1, and then after I saw Part 2 I was actually really angry...no matter how hot they looked that just doesn't make up for lack of plot.

hmm i think it was because JaeJoong injured his knee? i'm not so sure though but most of the 'Rising Sun' performance i saw, JaeJoong appeared on a chair/couch/sofa while the 4 danced.

i haven't now watched the old DBSG Banjun dramas. the only ones i watched were the 5 that were shot this year. not bad though. i would say their acting is not bad for their first time. i stayed up till 6am to finish watching all 5 last night. :D

Lee SooMan, SM's Producer/Representative announced the direction of DBSK's activities.

On May 30th at 5pm at SM Entertainment's Office Lee SooMan held a meeting with 45 students from Harvard Business School. Lee SooMan said "They couldn't be here today because of their busy schedule. DBSK is a very scary group. In order for DBSK to debut in acting, we have created a movie and a drama for them."

Lee SooMan also said "DBSK and H.O.T are the only singers in our country that can bring in 40,000 fans at once. We are planning to pick one chinese member for DBSK very soon. DBSK is currently doing activities in Japan but in the future their stage for activities will increase to the entire area of Asia."

This meeting was created by the request of Harvard Business School Students. The main topic was 'Hallyu' and Lee SooMan also talked about the direction of each singer's activities. He did not forget humor and created a fun.

To be honest with you, I think Lee Soo Man is an effing idiot.

The fans have all grown to love the five members of DBSK over the last 2 1/2 years...to have them accept a 6th member is unthinkable...5+1=0...especially with those Korean fans...the hardest thing is to get that member just as loved as the other five, which is not going to happen. As much as I love the group and as much as I say I will support them in whatever they do, this is just...........
I don't think it's fair to them to throw in this member out of nowhere after they've grown to completely love each other...when their bond is so tight that they can read each other's tones and thoughts...it's classic LSM...treating them like a hot commodity that can get him tons of money...like the member rotation 'rumour'.

I guess I will end up accepting the guy if he proves himself worthy, but what do you guys think?

And this new member that would be added in DBSG, he'll be a member after almost 3 years. And it's just... I think it wouldn't be easy to get used to. And I think DBSG has been recognized as a 5 member group, they've already established a name, we've known them for so long, and then here comes someone new...

I don't even know how to explain it properly. I just feel that it's not right. It's as if Lee Soo Man has no confidence in the boys.

RIGHT NOW, the boys have fans all over the world. And they've gained these fans without having to have a member with a different ethnicity or nationality. They gained these fans by just being 5 member Korean group, TVXQ!... Aigooo. I believe the boys can break into Asian markets without having to add a Chinese member.

Sorry to be such a buttplug but...

UNTIL this happens, just read it with the same mentality that you read all the other rumours with. And I mean WHEN the 6th member comes and stands before me and says "I AM THE SIXTH MEMBER OF THE BAND DONG BANG SHIN KI".

And to be honest, do you honestly think that guy is going to be so willingly to join the group? If he's been around for the last 2 years, I think he's pretty much clued up into what world he's going to be thrown into. And to think he's eager to do so? I sincerely doubt it.

Just don't hate someone before you've seen/ met/ heard them.

Were we not as reluctant to warm to the band that had 12 members that went by Super Junior before they debut? Just see how much fans they've gained along the way.

Mish: There's always good and bad change. What worries you is probably how the boys will feel if this 6th member was added. Even now, they don't look as comfortable as I'd like them to be with each other. For one, I can still feel tension when watched a certain two of them together. But that's another story.

But the fact that LSM added without any formal announcement at all, everybody, though they may dislike it, has just accepted it and brushed it off as another of LSM's tactics. That rotation rumour, I think has been ditched. Or... it'll happen all of a sudden to save LSM the hassle.

And with the Chinese thing. It's not doing a lot of good for the Chinese. Some, I say, are just exploiting this and expelling more hatred for us Chinese. Which is annoying to say the least. I don't know how LSM sees the Chinese market, but with people like Dong Bang Shin Ki, my beloved, I don't see how they'll have a lasting impact on the people. Say Kangta and Vanness, I can't see them lasting longer than the initial hype. If LSM is looking for that, then he's going to get it. If he wants eternal fans like the H.O.T fans, I sincerely doubt it. Blame it on hallyu. Blame it on too many stars being rotated. I'd like to believe international fans have a strong loyalty to their admired artists, whether they be Chinese or Korean. I guess I also speak for Jay in the same way. ChoiKang Changmin is going to act in the MBC Drama 'Snow Flower' with Go Ara which is planned to air next year in January-Febuary. Both Choikang Changmin & Go Ara are in SM Entertainment. Choikang Changmin & Go Ara are known to be best friends.

Even with Kim HeeAe's casting 'Snow Flower' still hasn't finalized its casting. They are planning to go to Saporo, Japan and other locations in November to film this drama.

"Snow Flower"'s producer Samhwa Production Representative Shin HyunTaek said "Filming will start in November. Choi Kang Changmin will appear as Go Ara's boyfriend."

Representative Shin said "'Snow Folower' is the center of attention in asia. We are planning to film most of the drama in Japan."

'Snow Flower' is created from Kim SooHyun's novel which is about a writer & mom (Kim HeeAe) and her only daughter (Go Ara). The mom doesn't have much time to live and the drama draws the story of love and hardships. Originally Lee Hyori was casted in 2004 but due to problems it was canceled.

well, basically, the korean version is the same as the japanese version except that it's written in Korean and got a few more pictures than the Japanese one and a DVD too.. and, DON'T BE MISLED. Not because it's got extra stuff, should it mean that it should be pricier than the Japan one... nu-uh... YesAsia raised the price for the Korean version cos of that, but they shouldn't have. It costs lesser than the Japanese one... So, what's better with the Japan version? The front cover's much better than the Korean one. But other than that...? Nothing more. Hehehe... ^^

And yes, the Rising Sun Repackaged album is waaaaaaay nice. Loved it!!~ ^^

The repackage rising sun is well worth buying cos of the book full of pictures and info about the boys but its all in korean. I love the stickers you get with it. The extra vcd is well worth a watch.

yepp, there are two versions of the book. the first one released (the green one) is the Japanese Version and the second version is the Korean version (blue one which has dvd)... but YesAsia sells the Korean version for a more expensive price than the Japanese version... x.x and they pulled out the Japanese one off of course... so, it would leave buyers with no choice. x.x
