The points system, what it is...read here

Most of us have used message board systems such as this one long enough to know how important "pointages" are important to people. Pointages such as post count, reputation, thank you's...the more you have, the more you feel better right?

In light of the past reputation hoopla, JCNET now has a virtual bank and store (which we will call a plaza). I have installed a really cool hack for vBulletin called vBux/vPlaza. You will notice the "Plaza" link up top. There is also some options in your UserCP you may wanna check out.

So in addition to post count, reputation, thank yous, you now have virtual cash (points)!

*Note: the term "points" and "cash" will be used interchangeably

Now in the real world, how do you earn cash? By working of course.

To earn virtual cash at JCNET, you have to work too. So what is your job?
To keep JCNET active! Posting, replying, viewing topics, voting in polls, etc...basically what you have always done. There are DOZENS of things you can do at JCNET to gain points, I won't tell you what they are, as it's more fun to find out on your own. Different things will gain you different points values.


There is also a bank, in which you deposit your money to earn interest a week. You may also withdraw points, which is the points you have onhand to buy stuff.

Yes that's right! Here's the fun part, you actually get to BUY virtual stuff with the cash you earn. You can buy gifts for yourself, or to give to other members.

NOTE: The gift store is not complete, and will take me a while to do so.

You can also donate cash to people if you're feeling generous.

AND there is now a weekly lottery which you can purchase tickets for 5 points each, the jackpot is I think ~200 points or something.

AND there is also a betting system, called vBookie in which from time to time, we will place something you can bet on and earn points for winning. They will always be posted in the Contest forum. If you have something you would like to bet on, PM a moderater or admin and we will set it up for you. It has to be something big, like World Cup outcomes or something alot of people know about, not your local university basketball game.


There is just so much to explain, I'll leave it at the basics for now.
We are now in a testing phase, I have to see how fast people earn points to set appropriate prices for the gifts, etc...

Ling it shouldn't decrease your reputation if you are unsuccessful in stealing :oops: ...only if you are successful, and 3 points is too high. I'll change it too something lower, or probably take it out for now. And I'll add back your 3 points as well.

i checked that out just now,
and i found out, there is a limitation to that function,
you need x amount of points until you are allowed to steal other's.

That's really true! And also, with the fact that the points go up really fast, people would spam and get more points. By the end of the day, they've already gotten more than 100 points.
Before, rep points and thank you's can't be controlled by the user, but this time, the points can be controlled by posting a lot etc.

Yes as with alot of things, people will find ways to exploit them. But you get so little points for posting, it's not really worth the effort to spam...and that's what the mods are for, besides they get a paycheck now, so they have to work :shy:

Congrats to Winston for winning the lottery! Unfortunately as we discussed, some of that has to be taken away (I didn't finish setting up the lottery feature apparently)...so there's gonna be a 80% federal tax applied to your winnings.. or more...:shifty:

Just a suggestion.
What if when somebody tries to steal money from someone
and that person fails, how about if the amount he or she tried
to steal from the prospective victim will be given to the person he or she
attempted to steal from but failed instead of just losing points off to nowhere?
I guess in that manner it would be a little more fair to the thieves' favorite victims.
