View Full Version : Would you recommend .rar or .zip compression?

I'm not sure with which to go with... and I'm a bit hazy on file compression. I know for fact that .rar takes a lot more time to compress than to compress a file into .zip file. But what's the difference? What're the pros and cons of each file type?
If somebody could kindly explain, I'd be greatly thankful.

can't say for certain as i use both and notice minimal difference.

.rar is much better compression format but .zip is more universal, which means evreybody in the world can open zip files but not everybody in the world can open .rar cos zip is more popular...

.rar has the added advantage of splitting files, which is excellent for sending via emails or uploading.

yeah zip is more universally used compared to rar's... personallly i like rar's better because zip, i find, corrupt easily sometimes which really annoys me
