Australia 'world's gayest country'
23sep03
MORE than 17 per cent of Australians are involved in gay or lesbian relationships, putting the country equal first in the world for its proportion of homosexuals, according to a new worldwide survey.
The survey of sexual habits by international condom maker Durex found that together with Americans, Australians had the highest proportion of same-sex relationships.
At the other end of the scale, Vietnam recorded the lowest proportion of gay and lesbian relationships, at three per cent.
The company said Australians enjoyed a busy love life, having sex on average 125 times per year.
Hungarians came out on top, having sex 152 times per year.
But Australians were still ahead of Americans, at 118 times a year.
The survey also found phone, text and cyber sex were gaining in popularity in Australia, with 43 per cent indulging in "virtual reality sex".
The company said faking orgasms was also common in Australia, with 47 per cent of respondents admitting to doing so at least once.
This was almost twice the global average of 26 per cent.
The survey found 41 per cent of Australian men and women had sex for the first time because they were in love, and most agreed that more foreplay would improve their sex life.
The company said more than 150,000 people took part in the on-line survey, which was now in its seventh year.

:lolabove: chun li, i don't know whether to laugh or cry when reading this piece of news. but since it's an online survery, there might be a response bias of some sort? as in the people who wanted to be represented took the effort to vote, thus possibly making this not as generalizable to the general population as it should. :? ah well... still interesting, i suppose.

Australia 'world's gayest country'
The survey of sexual habits by international condom maker Durex found that together with Americans, Australians had the highest proportion of same-sex relationships.
The company said faking orgasms was also common in Australia, with 47 per cent of respondents admitting to doing so at least once.
This was almost twice the global average of 26 per cent.
/\ Australia is sharing its title with America, therefore the title "Australia is the "world's gayest country" would only hold partially true. At a closer inspection you would realize that America is also the "world's gayest country".
On another note, they make Australians look bad by comaparing the rate of fake orgasms to an inproportionate scale of statistic by using the "global average", hence compiling of various different cultures and of course, a larger scale would most likely result upon a smaller average.
And if you have slight knowledge about this you would know that "Miami" is the worlds gayest city, inconjunction with the fact that its population by far exceeds Australias cities. Also I live in Melbourne, since Sydneys the gay city it doesn't really concern me. :)

09-27-2003, 06:16 PM
yea~ australia.
(i'm in australia)
they just legalised same-sex "marriage" (some ppl say that it is not supposed to be called "marriage" because it is a term for christian to define "two people of different sex put together by God") and thousands of people registered immediately. the media also tries to promote it, showing australia as an "open" country, not discriminating them and being homophobic.
but it's gay man...
i personally hate it

yes they are. esp those who live in the country/bush areas. ppl in the city are generally cool coz they're exposed to so many diff cultures they're used to us.
i can't say i've been treated in an outright rascist way by anybody, but subtly i have...just the attitude of some white aust shop assistants...they act as thou they don't want to serve you and aren't helpful when you want some info....or perhaps they're just having a bad day?

true true true!! australia is said to be the most racist country in the world. let's start with their history - they killed hundred thousands of black aboriginals people of australia when they invaded australia (and btw they were criminals sent on exile here). hundred thousands of them died! and in tasmania not even an aboriginal is left behind that poor island. and look at the inbalances now, the aboriginals have no chance in society - they don't get decent job;pay;repect etc. they are racist towards the darker skin people - they call themselves a "multi-cultural" country - that's because there's English - Italian - French - German etc people. They're still white right? And asians here do not get as much respect as the asians in the States.
As to the country/outback people compared to city people - i think it depends a lot on their parents as well. Although there's heaps of racist bast**** there's still lots of respectable Australian that aren't racists. Lots of them go to asian restaurant very often as well. Some Ct people are pretty racist as well

yeah some guy came up to me on the train (drunk i think) and started screaming at me for 'invading' his country and taking all his jobs
then i got pissed (angry) screamed at him...asked if he was an aborigine, and if he wasn't,he was an invader too
blah blah blah
i think i got him sober....
xiAoJie
10-07-2003, 08:04 AM
omg, u can't say australia is the most racist country dudes!!! all the other countries are just as bad as each other, even asian countries. and its not the australians fault that millions of aborigines died, it was the europeans anyway.

they mean the gayest "country" not city in the US =P
also the survey is done by percentage, and while San Fran has a high percentage, it is nothing in comparision to the rest of the US population...
but yea San Fran is full of gays...that is probably the #1 gay city in the world...

All of you people who've had something against gay people have got homophObia. I reckon it's slack of you to speak so lowly of them. I don't take sides either.
I'm viet + chinky and I happen to live in Australia. But it doesn't mean that I'm gay or all of the Australians are gay. As a matter of fact, I've never personally known anyone who's gay before or even now.

the answer is no....i think. but they're pushing for it.
I am pretty sure that the australian government will never allow and approve same sex marriages...especially when religion is still so popular in australia... :P
you realize that its kind of "cool" to be gay now. the television even has shows of gay people making fun of straight people. so its not exactly like we're discriminating against them.
and i think human beings are all like that, i mean, we want things we can't have. honestly now, when you (guys) think of a lesbo couple, don't you think its hot? might be a bit perverted but thats how most of us work...same with girls, they want things they know they can't have, like gay guys.
vashdestampede

um...firstly
about the guys and lesbians thing...i think it's just cos guys want to have sex as much as possible....and lesbians represent 2x fun....

and does that make Australia a 'cool' country¿ rock on!

all my guy friends have this theory that all girls are either gay or bi :? . i dont think so. i mean, i check out girls, coz theyre more interesting to check out!! but im straight.. i think.. jkjk, nah im straight.
well the guys gspot is in the..erm.. back door.. if u know what i mean.. [ omg, i cant believe im posting this..] so i guess thats a reason guys are gay..?
i reckon girls are attracted to gay guys coz they have more in common. you know, bitching and shopping. my friend is best friends with this gay guy and theyre alllllways out shopping! guys are interested in that lesbian thing coz its something they cant have..?
i dont know, i dont think australias all that gay. i didnt like that gaydar queer eye special tho  .

um...oh yeah...i think guys think girls are either gay of bi....because girls are always doing stuff together...like kissing each other on the cheeks when the meet and stuff...
and i assume guys think it's all sexually orientated
Well i am in oz and am a male and are not gay, i totaly dont discriminate against homosexuality at all. people are who they are, maybe it is just that Australia, as a nation is more understanding of free choice of life than other countries are. possibly in australia people dont feel as intimidated by homosexuals as other places.
and the gspot :? hmm bahahaha! ah dear yep its there and i know of no-one who uses it (including my lil gay buddies  ) there are other ways for guys to get, shall i say "excited" without being sodomized by someones finger.

Haha!! that's hilarious!! though really, even if he was gay (very likely), he'd still be just as popular I bet. isn't vin diesel gay? or did someone make that up..? I never knew that Vin was gay. o_O -shrugs- I just saw Thorpe at the Olympic's Closing Ceremony last night. His hair does look a little funny. lol. He looks kinda bald. ahahaha. But I still love him. ^_^ And I'm sure that he'd still be popular IF he was gay (I hope he isn't though .lol)

we need a poll **stomps foot on ground like i really mean it**
"Do u think Thorpie is gay?"
http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/kao/otn/pblob2.gif
monkeyking, the answer to that question is YES! i do think that thorpie is very happy now that he has won so many gold medals for australia. he should be gay! arent' u gay?

:D .... i'm happy but i ain't gay (in the homosexual meaning of the word)
ok ok .... lemme rephrase
"Do u think Thorpie is a homosexual?"
http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/kao/otn/pblob2.gif
PS, shay, u can just call me MK ... much shorter for ya 2 type
haha, i was just being silly MK... (it was late at nite..haha)
i dunno, i mean, he has a gay vibe and my gaydar certainly goes off... just the way he talks and just his body language i suppose...and he's launched some fashion related thing (hasn't he? *shrugs*), and he seems to care about his hair...and him and peter hoogie seem a bit close...eh? eh? ;) haha i'm joking on that point, but i mean, he could just be very..metrosexual, who knows? i haven't actually seen anything suggesting that he is attracted to other men though. does he have a girlfriend? hehe

yea i agree with all ur points above^^
i think he has like a label of underwear out ... http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/kao/otn/pblob4.gif (or coming out)
he definately has a gay feel about him in my books... very effiminate (spell?)
however, he might just be metrosexual http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/kao/otn/pblob6.gif.... i still reckon he's gay thohttp://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/kao/otn/bloblaugh1.gif but he won't admit cos his endorsements would go down if he did...

There's definitely alot of gay people in Australia cos it's a free country.
Gay people aren't all that bad, i know one who is very nice but only when we go out and have fun, if you sit down and have a chat with them then you'll start to realise they think very differently. Sometimes make me think they're weird, i mean get over it, how can you like a person of the same sex??? Liking is ok.....but comeon...doing THAT kindda stuff with them!! eeeeeeeeeeew...gross!!!

I don't see the point in telling us that Australia is the gayest county. Should we just respect the country???

i love it how this topic just gets resurfaced every couple of months...
just because Australia is the world's gayest country, doesn't mean we don't respect it
i think by saying that...there's already an inference that labelling something as most gay is 'bad'

I think it's because Australia is very accepting and tolerant of all kinds of backgrounds and beliefs because it is multicultural o_O John Howard won't accept same sex marriages =T hahahha we are a very happy/ gay country ^_^

If anyone saw John Howard try to throw a cricket ball last year when I think he was visiting the Australia troups, you would think he was gay. He throws like a girl ...hehehehe... Actually I'm a girl and throw better then he does.
My best friend in gay and has never been happier. She has had so many bad relationships with men she jumped the fence (as we say). She has a son and her partner has 2 sons, they are one big happy family...
Who cares if Australia is the gayest country. Just means we are more open then others... Australia RULESSSSS... :bleh:

i have to agree with you on that, i went to aus for holiday, and for an asian, i meet a lot of weird people there, and place lilke perth is damn boring
ColaPoP
01-16-2006, 08:04 PM
and place like perth is damn boring
So I'm lost. Are you saying that one of the factors which may lead to Australia being the "gayest country" is cos we're bored?
Hmm. I'm bored, think i'll go turn gay now...

Back to the topic of Gay, you people should appreciate your primeminister for not allowing gay marriage....
Its so hard now in NZ to tell who is gay and who isnt...
Not that I'm terribly against it...but its kinda disturbing walking around school seeing girls dress up in boys uniform, French kissing their girlfriend in public...actual during my school prom!!!

hahaha
fanks chun li for that piece of entertaining info
nothing personal australians....
but you have way too much gay/lesbians in ur country....
hmmm... its not really like that... i dont entirely agree on that survery...becoz i can see it for myself.. that Australia is not flooded with sexually confused or same-sex attracted poeple...its not like every corner there's a queer group of people u know...its not like that at all..and i do have gay friends who i dont treat any differently...infact i see them as women becoz they look and behave likea woman ... except for a few thigns which you cant really blame them and U CANT BLAME THE GUYSSSSS what i mean by it is that... my GAY friends are HOTHOTHOT.. physically .. ok to be more politically correct they're Transexual's and it mean they dress like women and say they are women..but they are really flirty...too much infact like over the top..in clubs or wherever they would constantly flirt like crazy and i dont like that..when im out with them before...bcoz guys takes that wrong and takes it as ok to chat me up bcoz im with the group...i dunno about them but not me.. i didnt like all the attention these guys gave them.. and they had to idea that they are actually cracking on to MEN..well woman.. ahh i dunno.. but yeah other than that..they r cool...and no you dont see gay people everywhere.. trust me..i lived for so long...
hahaha Australia gayest country..hmm dont brag ur country like that..thats mean...its embarassing actually...and its not even that bad...that situation.. and even if it was its all good....

not being sad to aus but this is another reason that some new zealanders hate australians. but i think that we should respect other people s opinions and sexual preferences and not make jokes about it cos thats just plain rude (im straight by the way :D)

When I read the title, I thought you were dissing Australia, and I felt angry.
When I skimmed the first few lines, I got what it meant and I laughed.
Then I read it and finally got the pure meaning and felt disgusted.
Then I felt ashamed of laughing...
Hmm...

um...oh yeah...i think guys think girls are either gay of bi....because girls are always doing stuff together...like kissing each other on the cheeks when the meet and stuff
well with that, they all say girls are better expressing and stuff... guys to their thing (the hand thing) and girls to their thing. i mean when i get to school everyday i hug and prob kiss them on the cheeks, im still straight even though i go to a chick school.
haha its funny that gay guys have a better fashion taste (cant remember who said it)
it dont see whats so wrong with gay couples.... im not taking sides either. after all who are we to judge??

I don't understand why some people on this thread are so disturbed about the fact of whether Jay will come to Australia because of its gay stats. Seriously, having gay people doesn't mean australia is a "bad" country. I myself may not understand exactly the reasons behind gays and lesbians, but i do try to treat them the same as other people, because essentially- they are.
I don't really like some gays and lesbians who publicly make out and pash, i don't like it when straight people do it either. However, i admit that i cringe even more when i see a lesbian couple pashing in public like no tomorrow, i guess i'm just really not used to that.
All in all, Jay isn't gonna care how many gays there are in aus, he just needs people to fill the concert halls lol.

My first impression when i saw the name of this thread "Australia is the world's gayest country": http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Si2ta-/Onions/wtf.gif then... upon thinking...http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Si2ta-/Onions/swearanger.gif "what! are you calling my country gay?!!?" and... upon clicking and reading http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Si2ta-/Onions/sigh.gif "its true.."
My gosh http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Si2ta-/Onions/wtf.gif its so true! I actually have a gay friend. So i don't find it wrong or bad or anything...its just that his emo since he likes his best friend...and his afraid of rejection http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Si2ta-/Onions/phail.gif well.. atleast.. after reading this he gained confidence...knowing that there are people in his situation http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Si2ta-/Onions/sweats.gif Thanks Chun Li for pointing it out, you did a great job! http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Si2ta-/Onions/thumbsup.gif
