I seem to have some problems searching for a phrase here, as the search system seems to search for ANY words you entered, not ALL words. So let's say I entered "Long Quan" it would return any threads with "long" or "quan" in it, not "long" and "quan". I think this limits the flexibility of our searches as we cannot set the search function to look for the things that we are exactly looking for.

I did a simple test and here was the results:
- Cai Hong Tian Tang: 103 topics returned
- Cai Hong Tian Tang Piano Scores: 123 topics returned.

So you could very easily see that the forum uses the "OR" function, while many major search engines out there like Google and Yahoo uses the "AND" function, so the longer your search string, the less results you are going to likely get.

And I cannot find how to use the "Search Exact Phrase" here, so I cannot search for an exact phrase to be returned. Example, searches for "Golden Armour" (with the quotes, like when you want to do an exact phrase search on Google) will not just return topics with the exact words "Golden Armour" on it but also return topics with, say, "A golden retriever dog bites off the armour on the museum".

If anyone can teach me on how to utilize this different search methods in this forum, please do. I cannot seem to understand what is the difference between Natural Language and Boolean methods.

I did a test by your keyword "Cai Hong Tian Tang" and I got only 67 founds but if you choose search by Titles ony, there is only 20 threads (http://jay-chou.net/forums/search.php?searchid=108120) and it returns the result with the exact word and separated word. That is when you use search by Natural Language. But if you want it to return only exact word then use Boolean method.

And if you didn't notice, there is also a Google Search Jay-Chou.net on the top below menu bar.

Well the Google search is rather inaccurate, being one of the main reasons why I don't use it at the moment. The forum searches the database directly while the Google search have to index the site first, sometimes results that should have been there are not shown.

Thanks for the information though, I'll try asking around vBulletin users and post what I find here later.

Sort the results by relevancy and the topics with the exact phrase will appear at the top, while the less relevant will be towards the bottom.
