at first my frens also thinks he sucks except for a few... they thot that he was ugly when his 1st album was out... but after fantasy everybody was crazy over him. those who said he's ugly started commenting he actually looks okay others say he's got real talent now they're all crazy over him... though some remained neutral but the change is quite significant.. =)

everyone is entitled to their opinion. I have friends that don't agree with me either on my opinion of Jay, but that's purely their choice. Music is subjective too, they might just not like his music or the way it is, whereas people like us do. Personally, i think Jay doesn't look half as bad as they make him seem like he is, at least nobody can say he only got famous because of his looks. But really, i wouldn't care so much about what my friends think of Jay, it shouldn't affect you or your likings for Jay. And if you really want to know why your friends dislike Jay...have you ever tried asking them? :wink2:

yeahh, a lot of guys at my school say JAY sucks and all that crap :( I mean, they don't even listen to that much of Jay's music.. they ' re not even chinese so obviously they don't understand the lyrics, but so what?? They freakin piss me off sumtimes cuz they kno that i LOVE Jay so much and i'm an obsessed freako, so they are alwayz like, "Oh Jay, that ugly singer guy??" And i'm lIKE WHAT THE HECK>. maaaan. I mean, they obviously haven't seen much of JAY, and they shud keep their mouths shut if they don't even kno what the heck they are talking about. i mean, i kno they have a right to their own opinions, but they shouldn't say stuff like that when they don't even kno WHO JAY is and what he looks like..
Overall,,, i think we should all just try to ignore those (stupid) pple who make fun of jay or say he sucks or say he is ugly.. WATever they dont kno what they are talking about and frankly,. they dont deserve to know about OUR JIE LUN! hehe

all of my friends hate jay chou..maybe its because they dont listen to asian music much..they're more into nelly and eminem or that kind of music..but my frinds who do listen to japanese, chinese and such hates jay chou too!!! i dont even know why..when i asked them they tell me he's "gay" and doesnt even sing that well and doesnt look good at all..they OBVIOUSLY dont know what good music is! hehehe

Tough we all at this website think that Jay's great, other might not, and that is not important. As long as Jay himself and his music makes us happy is enough for me. well i don't know why they said that.. but they shouldn't have said that.. if they got as much as talent as jay does, then they could, but i don't think they r so!... first of all i didn't like him much.. just his songs... but i don't know when his look also charm me also.. i thought he got normal look, chinese look...just so so. not too attractive.. but now i got changed.. he's even my type now.. sometimes i think he looks like japanese also..very very cute guy.. the way he moves , sings, or express himslef... even his facial expression is not much different but we can see that he's only 24yr-old guy who is very talentd like middle age man! i admire him... if i could turn back time, i would ask my mum to enter musical enrollment.. i wish i could be able to play some instruments and compose my own songs.. but i can't play any... :cry: so sad!

Nah... they just dun like Jay coz' his style of music may not be their 'music taste'. Probably ur friends expect famous stars to be like--> great voice, great body/face, great fame etc. But it'll be the same as me asking you why do u hate Jolin? (LOL. No, that's not a real question, i just got it after escaping from the other thread :laughing: )
But think of it this way, :)
'WE'RE LUCKY' to hear this guy (Jay) who happens to be very talented and will become something more than a singer, song-writer etc.
*shrugs* But others don't look for that kind of talent in artists, some prefer either 'voice' or 'body' etc. or both.

well i dont really hav friends who are anti jay, they are not really into his songs either, no comments, there are some who likes some of his songs, so most of the time i cant find someone whom i can really share all the topics about jay with me, i m particularly interested in all his news, concerts or articles, so i read and read and there isnt someone i can talk to about jay all the time........so i really like this forum, thanx everyone for being here, for sharing all we know about jay, and what we think of him.......if not for this forum there is nowhere i can express my interest towards jay and his music......will all of u here, there is so much interaction......and its so fun coz we are all his fans, so we dont condemn him in terrible ways like some ppl outside. About his looks, i really dont think there is anything wrong with it.......he is not good looking i dont deny, but not good looking doesnt mean no attraction, like the HK reporter says, he has a shy feature that causes fatal attraction, and like mike has said......in real jay looks as cool and usual.......he is NOT ugly, of course.......but with his attitude , personality and talent.......he is just way too good........of course no one is perfect, jay has his weakness and mayb ppl around him, close to him will notice some of his bad points.......so what, everyone has bad points rite? and with his taste in clothings getting better and better, he is just improving in every aspect......we all know now he loves suits and ties, which i think looks real good on him, i hav love him in suits ever since his 'fan fang xiang de zhing' mv..........so, i dont care if anyone think he sucks, or they dont see why he is so darn famous and making so much money, they probably think he is just another common chinese singer who doesnt stand out........but they are wrong, and its fine if they continue to think that way.......they hav the rights.....as long as, we dont think that way....jay will be happy, to see so many pple supporting him.

what i hear from some of my friends is, they don't know what is he trying to sing... coz he either mumbled or sing too fast. So they commented, "sing until like this also can become famous?" But i proudly tell them off, it's the music he's making... anyway, voice can be instrument in songs too! His voice is nicely merge into the song and it sounds like music rhythm.
Take jpop as example. How many of us here really understand what ayumi hamasaki or Boa is singing? (those who are non-japanese and non-korean) It's the music and their voice that makes the song nice. agree with me? :laughing:

I can tell whether or not a person would be my close friend by doing the music test. If we like the same kind of music, then we'll have a lot in common. But if the person can't stand what I'm listening to, then we'll have a hard time spending time together! So basically all my friends think Jay is cool. My non-Chinese friends and I have the same taste in music too. We'd listen to songs in languages that we don't understand. We don't mind! Anyhow, even those who don't like Jay that much, they wouldn't mind him. They'll at least like some of his songs. But most of them would agree that he doesn't look too handsome...

yeah...but his mumbling and slurring is some of his special traits. he also puts a lot of work into his songs and its noticeable since none of his songs sound the same. you can’t judge a musician solely on his looks because he is, after all, in the music industry and makes money off his love for the art…but then again I think he’s very hot…;)

i used to live in a surrounding where my friends n family dislike jay. however, someone told me tt if u go on going mad over your idol, they would start to think, wat does this guy have to make u so crazy over him, and they will start listening to his music. and i think abt 40% of them would start liking jay too.. so everyday i go mad over jay that in school my frens call me Zhou Jie Lun.. AND true enough, some of my frens started liking him.. but they still think he is ugly.. but jay looks take longer time to get used to (no offense!) it took me quite a while to think jay is good-looking..

people always say his singing is like ~ mumbling that is. but thats his style. i got this friend taht i got so pissed with ... she kept sayinh her wang ren fu(Zax wang of 5566) is better. i'm like "no .. i'm sorry but jay's so talented can?" and she's like wang ren fu is so shuai. i totally got no comments. hehs. ok.i'm evil :) but i dont understand why others dont like his style of singing. but whatever they say, the most important thing is ... i like!

Yeah I like too! I think the whole mumbling thing is so unique! To be honest I didn't really notice it when I first started listening to him, as it's Chinese and half the time I can't catch Chinese lyrics anyway, even if the singer is clear in his pronouciation. I only thought that his songs are amazing and that's why I like him.

Who cares what others say. Who cares if he's not conventionally handsome. Fact is, he produces brilliant music and that's enough for me. :)

This was actually my main problem nowadays...Filipino Forums especially the one in which F4 fans are dominant, people there keep on pointing which artist are uglier than the others...two targets are 5566 and of course, Jay... I was kinda pissed, really, because they don't EVEN know who he is and yet they're judging him like that :-x ...As if they could find anyone with the same talent....I'm so pissed!!! I almost say bad words which was strictly forbidden, but then...you can't please everybody...BUT In Jay's case, it's either you LIKE him or you'll LOVE him..hehe..no space for other options :bleh: ....

My mom doesn't even like Jay! She's always telling me that my brother is so much better looking than him and that if I want a poster to be hanging in my room, I should have one of my brother. That is just plain disgusting.

Some of my friends say he sucks too. I just turn to them and say, "You're just jealous that he's so beautiful and you're not." Then they glare at me for a second.

But I have to agree with you guys about his mumbling - that's what distinguishes him from the others. It's his own personality.

my friends are very supportive of me when I was, and still am, on my "I love Jay Chou!" craze. They would play his songs for me when we are in the car so I would laugh and feel happier :D ...and they would pick his songs when we go karaoke so they can hear me sing them :D and I love them for that! But my bf on the other hand is getting a bit annoyed :rolleyes: by my crazy ways these past weeks since going to Jay's concert in L.A., which I dragged him to of course!...But he should support me right? :D It's not like I'll run off with Jay or something ( I would if he asked me to...hahaha :wink2: ) I so so envy those whose bf share the same energy for Jay as their gf. :rasp: you r so lucky :happy:

well..i have to admit that some people do not like jay that includes my parents..actually i didnt like him in the 1st place..somehow i was quite sceptical..i didnt want to believe that there is someone who is able to produce great music and songs in all his albums..(as you all know,there are only 3 to 5 nice songs in usual albums)..but jay has proven me wrong.although he cant get his diction right,we have to admit that all the tunes of his songs are great!=) way to go jay!

i do not agree that jay sucks. at all.
i think everyone should just listen to his music. and ask whether they can write equally nice tunes first >__< or whether they have a large range of notes like him. and rap like him. cause its not so easy to rap. i listen to his rap songs and go WOAH! cause he goes really fast and i can't catch up! :X maybe only a few words here and there.
its unfair to him that people discredit him cause he's not as good looking as other artistes cause he writes nicer and sing better songs than most/all of them.

i think a lot of jay fans go through this.
sometimes it is just bad being famous cause people don't know you but judge you very very superficially and they think you are horrible at everything just because you're not goodlooking.
but they don't give you a chance, they simply discriminate and boycott your songs cause you've got a "kiam pa" face (a asking-for-a-beating look). and there.. if not i seriously can't see why people don't like a single jay song at all.
maybe they refuse to listen to his song cause they don't want to change their opinion and by not listening to his songs, they won't be swayed or tempted to join the jay fan base!

Well, not everyone likes Jay's music and style so no comment on that. Many of my friends don't like his songs but they all know that he is a talented singer. That's what i proud of coz everytime when we talk about Jay, one will say 'hey he is not a good looking guy' and another will say 'but he is a talented one, right?'

I agree with laydesoul that those ppl who keep commenting that jay is ugly have to see him in person or attend his concert and they will understand what the truth is. :D

My usual reply to ppl commenting on Jay's appearance is that "it's his music that attracts me" ; no point to try to explain coz if they don't like Jay's music, then it's a waste of time to make them like Jay.

Geez, listen to his music and you'll see how talened he is. He may not be the 'hottest guy of the month,' but he composes, plays varities of instruments, sings, and is pretty good looking. Me,at first,I didn't like him right away.
But I took time listening to his music and I became more appreciative of his talents.

Actually now that I think about it, a lot of my friends don't like Jay because a lot of his music sounds the same? I guess that's what happens when you don't understand mandarin ^^

well i have to admit that none of my friends like jay's music T T this is because they dont listen to songs they dont understand the lyrics. but after they went to jay's concert with me [we got the complementary tickets :D], they admitted that jay is cool and his voice is soft and powerful.

I have friends that like JAy chow as much as I like him and there are people who are shallow and think he is the ugliest thing alive and won't even give his music a chance which pisses me off.

but i have had friends who were ex-fans who complain how he's mumbling too much and doesnt' sound good live. Eh..

anyway I like jay... (and leehom hahah) I think saying he sucks is a little too harsh unless your friends TRUELY don't like his music.

i guess many people say that he is ugly... but i just don't see it... i think in my head " oh god... he is so gorgeous... how can anyone be as gorgeous as he is...!!!" and then people around me will be like... "are you serious?!?!?!"... but now... my friends know that jay chou is the ONLY person that can make me truely smile from deep down my heart... so when ever im sad... they'll just say... "think about jay chou..."

I don't really care about my friends who say that Jay is not good. Well, at least its their point of view. We cannot make everybody to like Jay's musics, right? So when I actually insult their favourite singers, it's no use. So I just ignore them. Some more, all of us here love Jay, right?

well...it really depends on what type of music they like...maybe they are not into Chinese pop music or don't understand them! my aunt doesn't like jay because she doesn't understand a word he is singing...also she is a different generation than I am! I tell her everytime that jay is a great singer and better than some of the other singers she likes! even though she doesn't like him, there are a lot more fans that love him!

that is so weird because here in las vegas the friends and people i know love Jay Chou...that is very weird...like some of my american friends..see i have jay on my binder...and when they saw it they became a lover/fan of jay....my asian friends love him and the guys are so jealous of jay of his voice music personality and looks.....but all the gurls here love jay.....
for ur question i don't really know why u should ask them...it could the music that they are not used to or something...there is always a reason

you're not the only one...most of my friends say Jay suck! they say all asian singers suck!(such racists! I joke, they just don't like listening to music they don't understand)
but I think it's thier taste in music. if Jay's songs is not their type of songs to listen to...you can't do anything about it. you can just look them straight in the eyes and say "you guys SUCK!" (hehe I joke, don't do that)

Yeah, a lot people around me dun like Jay too :sadangel: A lot of them always ask me, why do you like Chou Jie Lun? Or can you actually tall what he is singing? Or his eyes are so small! etc etc.. But i think it should be that way, yu should judge people on their appearence only, his music is so good, he is so talented, plus, I think he's not ugly! He's shuai! :rasp:

actually people around me are okie with Jay.. Sometimes they purposely say bad things about him in front of me... etc.. they will comment that the Jay avatar i have on my msn is very ugly (when i know they dont really mean it cos i think he looks so cute and diao in the photo). then they will say they dont like Jay cos they believe he did wrong to jolin and wont listen to his songs anymore.

But not to worry, i usually catch them listening to Jay immediately after that..Haha..

well...we do hate some artistes too...so we cannot blame them for disliking jay. they are just jealous of his popular status and the income he earned. :P

We don't have to care what others think. Just tell them who is the most popular now, if jay is not good, then why is he so popular...haha.

i didn't like jay at first either. i had borrowed a friend's jay cd to listen to. and when i listened to cds i usually blast them. i guess that was a bad idea for jay. i forgot what song i was listening to but it was one of the rap ones. blasting it left me a bad impression of his songs. but slowly..i got used to the rap. and slowly started to like his songs. so yea..sometimes it takes time for one to like an artist's music. tell them to give him more chances...my suggestion would be to start with a slow song..i liked his slow songs first.
