What if there's people from Hong Kong....? Do you want to form a discussion with only people from HK or what..? Please specify what you'd like to discuss before creating topics.

I'm born in HK but now I'm in the States. That counts right? ;D

Been there once... but happen to eat a mini cockroach in a tim sum dish. :-x

* This topic is really hard for people to understand what you trying to discuss. If it's for hong kong dudes to communicate, maybe you can set topic as," Hong Kong people, let's unite!!"
Just some suggestions... :wink2:

I live here....and as much as i hate, and despise it....i'm staying here, until i can take no more. Don't stare at me like i've stepped on your toe though, i'm not against hk, as i am born here, and claim to come from hk, i'm not ashamed of that.

But anyhow, sorry for that bitter opening statement, so yes, i do live here, and i don't think i've seen a lot of hk fans around here? hm, i guess that hk fans wouldn't really need to visit an english forum, as they probably wouldnt' know english well enough, and be better off at a chinese forum. But anyways, :wave: HI! ^^;;

I forgot because my dad was the reason why cantonese was spoken... Him and my mom preferred it... After my mom and dad divorced... My mom (Raised in hk) had no need to speak cantonese again... And my grandparents wanted me to speak putong and wuhan :/

i was born in HK. so, i count, right? :) i'm in canada now, but i went back in the summer of 2000. i had to take some time to adjust though since i haven't been back for a while. i like the convenience of getting around to different places, shopping, eating, etc. just not really used to stuff like those markets where you get your groceries and it seems so dirty. and at times i find people kinda rude there. anyway, a lot of my close friends are from HK, so i'd like to go back again sometime.

Well like lots of people here, i don't live in HK either... is this going to be an HK disscusion or what... well anyways...

The only thing i hear about HK's atmosphere(literally) is that its really humid in the summer, like 90%... really hot... I wish i lived there, it seems fun, but that could just be because of the movies that i watched...

and xJayChoux, no he won't be holding concerts in hk or taiwan this year...maybe next year..but i read from some mag that he will be touring hk next year.. (fingers crossed)

yeah, i agree with sugarcookie there. especially since the event will be held in HK where jay is way more popular than craig david. ah well... so far i just know that the rolling stones are the big stars there. they're also getting some local acts like F4, twins, etc. so, i'm not sure if craig david will be at the harbour fest or not. is anyone in HK right now planning to go? :?

Oooh...whenever i visit family in Hong Kong, i stay in Sam Mun Tsai, 三門仔, its in Tai Po, New Territory. Anyone know it? Its a really lovely, quiet fishing village and its one of my favourite places in the entire world...

But the next time i go to HK, i wanna spend more time on the actual island. Although its busier and there are more people, it seems so much mroe exciting, and i would love to explore a bit more. :D

xJayChoux

Hhhmmm...I don't know it jessca.... So, what is it exactly? It's in Tai Po?! My grandma lives there! :excited: Maybe I've to ask her...

Its just an old village, mainly inhabited by the elderly, but there are still kids and younger adults too. My dad grew up there and my great-grandparents live there too. Everything is just so simple. Even though its 10 minutes from Tai Po centre, it seems miles away from modern and industrialised cities. I havent been for 3-4 years but this is what i remember it as....theres a school at the top of the hills at the back, where my dad went, and you have the dock, where people fish...and the pebble peach and the rockpools where you can mess around all day...its just a really nice place, nothing you can find in the UK

hey jessca, that sounds like a really nice, beautiful place. doesn't matter if it's old and simple. that's actually one of the things i miss when i'm in the city. feels like we've lost so much as we gain technology... kinda like what jay expressed in "ti tian". anyway, i used to live in wan chai when i was young. and just before i came to canada, i lived in hung fa chuen for a couple of months. and when i went back a few summers ago, i was in ching lung tau, close to that bridge, ching ma dai kiu.

Oh I havent heard of that place either >.< I actually havent been to a lot of places in HK coz when I was little I mainly stayed in the HK island and now when I travel back there, I still stay in the HK island too since my family is from there but sometimes we go to the New Territories to visit other relatives.. but I still prefer the HK island better... What about you guys???

when you guys walk around HK (the busy places) do you guys feel it's dangerous at all? Nope! I dont know but I feel so 'at home' when I go back to HK so I dont feel dangerous at all... Instead I actualy feel more dangerous when I am around quiet places (in HK)!

Depends where you walk and when you walk.....

like causeway bay at 6:00pm or portland street at 3:00 in the morn.....

but at least in HK it is more safe to walk at night than in Aus...

-dream-
09-20-2003, 03:57 PM
i don't feel dangerous either, and i think that's probably due to the large amount of people too, as much as i hate crowds and noise, it feels more secure being with a crowd, just that it's probably harder for anything to 'happen' to me. so generally no, i don't feel that walking down the streets of hk is dangerous, but really, every country or city has something that can cause fear, though i have to say, i wish hk was a little more 'peaceful' being always crowded by people gets on my nerves.

xJayChoux
09-21-2003, 01:58 PM

09-22-2003, 02:21 PM
The heat is really freaky in HK. When I'm there for vacations, I don't even want to go out for shopping because of the shining hot sun... Even if I go out...I want to go to the stores that have some airco :D

wackycashew
09-22-2003, 05:56 PM
hmmm... i've never chanced upon any suspicious activities before in HK. and i think i'm ok with the safely as long as i'm no wandering around late at night in some dark alley. as for the heat, i know what you mean! it's so hot and humid and you feel all sticky. and then there are these weird bugs flying around. sometimes people can catch a cold b/c it's so hot outside and then the aircon is so cold inside. so, what you go around shopping or if you're in and out a lot, do take care. :hugz:

dream, your gym teacher made you guys do 16 laps?!?! :glug: i bet his sweat must be dripping heavily just by STANDING there for those 16 laps. unless he carries an umbrella with him or something. :prop:

09-25-2003, 10:26 PM
it depends on where you go to. I find that the stuff in malls are around the same price, if not more but if you go to stores along the street or places like "Fai Yeun gai" then it's very cheap.

panda_shine
09-26-2003, 04:29 AM
Yeah I guess it depends on wht u buy.. like if u buy those European brand names or those department store brands then of course it'll be expensive but if u buy those Honger or Jap style clothes etc then it's cheap^^

-dream-
09-26-2003, 02:22 PM
yah, definitely. It all depends on where you shop, and what you're shopping for. Clothes in general are a lot cheaper than those in North America at least, and i personally think the styles here a LOT better than those back there, though i think it's a little bit of a waste to be changing clothes every year because of new styles. However, if you're shopping for those expensive brand name clothes, like mentioned, European ones and such, those are without a doubt, expensive. For eletronics or things liek that, i think that the U.S are even cheaper in that, it doesn't make that much difference. Stationary though, japanese ones, are a lot cheaper here, they're extremely expensive in Japan or other places, but hk has them a lot cheaper, so in that sense, yes it is cheaper, but once again, it all depends on your desire for quality and what you're looking for. :wink2:

wackycashew
09-26-2003, 06:33 PM
oh, i definitely buy lots of stationary whenever i'm in HK. getting those japan things is sooo expensive here. plus, there's way more selection in HK. heehee... hmmm... i think shopping is cheaper in HK, but dining might be more expensive?

xJayChoux
09-26-2003, 06:42 PM

i'm glad to hear that shopping for Japanese stationaries are cheaper... it's quite expensive in the US and it's not even made in Japan... is it fake or did Sanrio gave the rights to make their products to China and Taiwan? :?

one more thing that i really envy about HKers is that they get to see so many good concerts!

jessca
09-29-2003, 08:16 PM
Yup!!

Hong Kong is a relatively small place but it has so many singers..which mean concerts! I havent been to HK since developing a liking to chinese music, but the next time i go, i have to go to the Coloseum (sp?) for a concert, it doesnt really matter whose!

And im not really a fan of Sanrio but my friends love Hello Kitty, and its so expensive to buy them something in the UK. About £3 for a plastic ruler which wouldnt be more then £1 in HK.

And so many VCDs and CDs...im dying to go cos they are so hard to get ahold of in the UK...those that you do find are so expensive aswell. I hate having to ask my auntie to send me stuff, cos shes busy and may not want to waste money for me... :depresse:

xJayChoux
09-29-2003, 10:42 PM

HK is fun .. cos i speak cantonese , i feel very comfortable there .. my cousin lives in lantau island( or discovery bay ..not sure ) and it's so nice! it's like a pollution free island, there are no cars on that island.. and just by the sea.
i think it's really fun to go out at night in kowloon area.. the ppl there don't sleep even at 10 something.. the streets are packed!it's so convenient to go out to get stuff to eat at night .stores are just nearby.. i like the mango 'sai mai lou' at "Hui Lau Shan" .. the last time iwent was in april and the weather was kind of cool.. never been there when it was really really hot. i can't stand hot weather. shopping can be really cheap at placesl ike granville rd .. those small shops selling hk/japanese style clothing.. but shopping mall clothes are abt the same price or much more expensive..

oh i think the guys that work in hk airport( customs) are kinda cute..haha.

I am originally from Hong Kong, living a blissfully uneventful nursery school life until my parents yanked me off to South Africa (don't ask, I don't know WHY either) at the tender age of 3...or 4.

Never went back to Hong Kong until I was in high school. Then it was like the Olympics--every four years. :)

The public toilets are appalling (my brand new shoes will testify to that!) but I am to understand that since sanitation has been outsourced to private companies, it's been a major improvement. (anyone actually care to confirm this?)

I like to visit places where movies are filmed (like the Mid-Level Escalators in "Lavender"); the food is great; the cops are lean (unlike South African doughnut-guzzling pot-bellied fatasses) as portrayed in "Bishonen"; the chiropractors are aplenty (for the nagging sports injuries). Mostly, you get to bump into a multitude of celebs and buy loads and loads and loads of movies and CDs!

If anyone is visiting, be sure to take a ride on the Duk Ling junk! It's free, one hour long and offers a 360 view of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. Just bring proof of your tourist status when you register for a ride.

hey, i'm just wondering... did you ppl who live (or lived) in HK ever went to those special events held in the Malls?... by special events, i mean the album signing and promotion... seems like there's one of those events every month.

anyway, i heard that HK streets are very clean.

I've been to Jay's autograph session in a mall!
HK streets are clean? hm...hafta think about that!

Yeah...HK streets are clean...You have to pay $600 hk dollars if you throw something on the streets....

Well...it's clean! hehe

it was increased cuz of SARS...
hk ppl spit on the street, that's one of the main reasons

Oh i see...

 Last year...when I was in HK in the summer vacations...I went to my granda with my 2 cousins...we went into the train...and than they started to make me laugh! Suddenly the chewing gum that I was chewing...fell outa my mouth  Guess what...I had to pick it up and hold it in my hands

jessica
11-24-2003, 10:57 PM
it's good that they enforce that law.
can you imagine how dirty it will be if everyone littered?
but the fines does seem a little high... probably that's just their way to prevent ppl from breaking the law.

xJayChoux : haha, that's why you should always save the wrapper.

xJayChoux
11-24-2003, 11:02 PM
Yeah...that's probably a good idea...or I'll just have to stop eating chewing gum when I'm on the streets

Aww...you're so lucky cookie, that you get to go visit HK this year. I went a couple years ago and Jay was visiting at the time, but I missed out on seeing him.

I hope you have fun!

12-29-2003, 02:07 PM
hong kong was like my 2nd home when i was still a kid. but now, i don't go there anymore. i didn't realize how much i've missed that place until now. one thing i noticed about hk peeps is that they are always busy and in a rush. whenever i ride in mtr, people always rush out whenever the door opens. and in the streets, people always seem to be rushing off somewhere. lol just sharing :D

anyway, does anyone know when jay will come to hongkong? i wanna catch him there.. some people say that he loves hk very much because the fans are very welcoming, i think :D is that true??

~sugarcookie~
01-04-2004, 09:54 AM
denise88: i think he'll go to HK again soon...he's always flying between those asian countries. haha, don't people rush off the mtr in every country? no point in lingering around the station...

i'm so happy, i'm finally going to HK again...but it's going to be in the summer. i don't know if i can stand the weather! the trip was originally suppose to be in the spring, but my parents want to spend more time there without missing too much school and sars.

ker_ai_teresa
01-09-2004, 02:01 AM
haha, don't people rush off the mtr in every country? no point in lingering around the station...

but i think the word "rushing" must be very different in the HK dictionary compared to other dictionaries. the HK ppl have redefined the word "rush" and "busy".
the way i see it, when ppl get off trains here in australia, yes they do get off quickly, but there's still this laid back nature.....ppl are pretty relaxed as they make their way out of the station. in HK it's just zoooooom! one second they're there and the next they're gone! :glug: hehe...

back to Jay and HK....
i've noticed that he hasn't been turning up to the HK music award ceremonies tho....is it coz he's still in Thailand? or China? but i'm sure he'll make an apperance there soon....you lucky ppl!

jessca
01-18-2004, 07:31 PM
I watched the JSG ceremony last night and i was kinda surprised about Joey! Andy and Kelly..everyone expected that but bless Joey!! I know Jay was nominated for a couple but he didnt get anything, he wasnt even there...Did anyone else watch the JSG awards?

And i might be going to Hong Kong in February! :excited: I know im definitely going this year, just dunno when. Itll probably be too hot for me in the summer but i only have a week free before the summer... I guess if i could decide id make sure Jay was there too at the same time hehe

jessica
01-21-2004, 11:10 PM
talking about rushing in HK.... you should see the condition here in NYC... ppl are always rushing to take the train... you can't even believe how crowded it can get!... we are not relaxed at all!... you'll have to fight and squeeze in the train or you'll have to wait a life time before another comes... rush hour really sucks!... at least the platforms and trains in HK are cleaner.

jessca : you're going to HK?... oh, you lucky girl!... there might be a chance that you'll bump into a celebrity... and if Jay's there too..............

my friend should be coming back from HK soon... i'll have to hassle her to tell me everything that happened there.

I'm not hk but I really really wanna go to HK ..I love all the canto singers, I love the fashion, I love the shops, I live the markets, I proabably love everthing about Hk, although if I do go there I proably wouldn't understand some things ppl might say because my cantonese is soso.....-.-

panda_shine
04-18-2004, 06:37 AM
Hmm where is everyone in this thread? ^^

Oh pey-ru.. what language do you speak? Mandarin? .. Because now I think a lot of HKers can speak Mandarin now... and lots of street signs, buses etc have English translations too, so no worries...

Hmm does anyone know how much a Jay Chou CD or VCDs would cost in HK?? Because my bro will be going there soon and I plan on telling him to get me all the CDs and VCDs^^

i just came back from hong kong a few days ago and im still having a hangover! i swear, i love that place so much. and the weather's good too! not too cold and not too hot. it has only been 3 days and im already missing the food, the shops, the people, MTR.. and HMV! lol.

Hmm does anyone know how much a Jay Chou CD or VCDs would cost in HK?? Because my bro will be going there soon and I plan on telling him to get me all the CDs and VCDs^^
hmm i think jay's CD in HMV costs around HK$120. it's quite expensive but really worth it. i saw jay's the one concert in VCD and it's with a jay doll(so cute!) around HK$315.

panda_shine
04-18-2004, 08:55 PM
oh $120 HK.. that's ok price considering that they sell it around this price here too  And I think they sell The One VCD with the doll here for around $60CAD too...

You are so lucky that you just got back from HK!! Did you get lots of things Denise??

04-18-2004, 09:24 PM
ah...NO FAIR!!!

my dad doesnt let me to go to HK this year...grrrr...my stepmom is going back to Maroc with my baby bro...and i CAN'T go to HK!!!

i miss my family there! i miss the food...CDs...VCD...everything there!!!!

i bought a few DVDs, VCDs and CDs that we don't have here in Manila.. and lotsa clothes! lol but as much as i shopped, i also ate a whole lot! i gained, i think at least 5 pounds with all the dimsum and yang chow friend rice i ate!

and pey-ru, if you know how to speak in Mandarin, you certainly won't have any problems speaking with HK people. i myself can't speak Canto but i did just fine with conversing in Mandarin. plus, a lot of HK people nowadays can speak English so don't ya worry :wink2:

AND JAY IS HAVING A CONCERT IN HK IN NOVEMBER! AND I WON'T BE BACK IN TIME... WTF!!!!! :profanit:

hi everyone...i have a question for those of you living in hong kong or those who know anything about hong kong's universities...

i'm planning on studying abroad in hk for a semester, but i'm not sure which university i should attend. my choices are hong kong university, and the hong kong university for science and technology, cuz i'm an engineering nerd. i know hku is the better overall university...is hkust much better for engineering? help me decide!

hku or hkust? any input would be appreciated!

¤ . 2 . o . o . 2 . ¤
08-05-2004, 01:23 AM
fluffysheep I don't know if you need this advice anymore but I've heard that University of Hong Kong (or was it Hong Kong University?) is very difficult to get into so I assume that you've got to have an excellent reputation and astounding grades to get in. As for the other university, sorry can't help you out because I mostly just know about HKU. But good luck and I hope you can make it in either one of these universities.

panda_shine
08-05-2004, 05:25 AM
Hmm I am not sure which is one is better as well.. hehe, but I heard that it's quite easy to get in if you come from outside of HK especially? Coz I was telling my cousin that I have thought about going to back to HK to study after high school, and she said it won't be hard to get in? I am not sure if it is true though.

¤ . 2 . o . o . 2 . ¤
08-05-2004, 06:33 PM
panda_shine, haha we both sound lost. But if what you're saying is true then I might consider going to University of Hong Kong/Hong Kong University as well. But my Cantonese isn't 100% great or excellent, or at least not yet... :shifty:

panda_shine
08-05-2004, 09:52 PM
2002: Yeah same here.. when I heard that and read their requirements.. It made me want to go back to study but I am not sure how that would work since my Chinese is below average  .. and a bunch of other stuff... But someone told me they teach courses in English? I am not sure..

¤ . 2 . o . o . 2 . ¤
08-06-2004, 01:33 AM
panda_shine: yay you replied. Hehe, don't worry about it, you still have time to think about it. I guess we're both lost in this discussion, hehe.

fluffysheep
08-06-2004, 09:02 AM
thanks for your replies, panda_shine and 2002! it actually does seem much easier to get into either hku or hkust if you're from another country...the gpa requirement seems to only be about 3.0, and i'm pretty sure they both teach most classes in english. which is good for me, since my chinese is almost nonexistent.

still undecided on which one to try for though...o_0

panda_shine
08-06-2004, 11:42 PM
Hmm flufflysheep, maybe you should try submitting to both? Or ask your parents/cousins in HK for suggestions? Wait you are from HK right?? But I believe HKUST is better in terms of Science + Technology.? But you should research more on it.^^

Yeah.. I guess I have an alternative route if I don't get into Uni in here :shy: .. but I think you need to pass this Chinese test in order to get admitted.. and I think it's more expensive to study in HK Uni... and I am not too sure what I would be under.. an HK citizen or Canadian citizen :?

¤ . 2 . o . o . 2 . ¤
08-07-2004, 12:29 AM
Well fluffysheep, which ever university you choose, good luck in it!=)

Chinese test!?!? Aww man...=( Yeah I think it is more expensive there, plus if you have no where to go you have to buy a place, pay the bills, buy the groceries. That's a lot of money already. I'm sure you'll get into a university here err... which ever province you live it. Besdies, as long as you speak English, it's good enough right? Were you born in Hong Kong or Canada? I think it'll say on your passport or some kind of ID of yours if you're a Canadian or Hong Kong citizen.

panda_shine
08-07-2004, 02:26 AM

I loved it there so much, I felt so sad when I had to leave. Miss it there sooooooo much! I especially missed the night view of Hong Kong and how it was so active, unless it is here in Canada, it's kind of empty compared to Hong Kong don't you think? Ahhh..... I love Hong Kong so much!

panda_shine
08-08-2004, 02:57 AM
Hmm yeah I moved to Canada when I was about 6 so I didn't really remember whether I liked it or not.. but I remember it was so much fun living there because all my relatives where there.. and yeah the night life and city life was more.. fun. And I never realized HK's night view was sooo beautiful until about 3 years ago I went back.. and my Dad took us to The Peak.. I miss HK a lot and I wish I could go back to visit again..

Hey guys! It's been so long since I've visited the forums! Missed you all. Hehe

Hey Panda_shine! Long time no chat. Just call me 2002, I like it that way. I went back 2 years ago and always loved to hang on the streets at night time. Yeah, I think it's a lot more fun there than in Canada, maybe because I like crowded places. Hehe, since we both want to go back, we might actually be on the same plane the next time we go back and not even notice it. But that'd be a true coincidence.

hey mliza, you like Hong Kong too eh? From the looks of it, panda_shine and I adore it there. Haha! Well I do at least. Now for the autograph session ting, I have no clue but I know (or think) he'll have a concert there some time soon.

mliza
08-21-2004, 04:08 AM

2002, me too.. I had such a great time staying in HK as well last time I went which was probably 2-3 years ago... And we are so much alike hehe.. I like crowded places too.. but more like crowded cities. It's just so exciting being in with more things going on in the city.

mliza, I am not sure about Jay's autograph signing.. Is HK part of the World Tour? hmm. I am not sure! Wow you must visit HK very often... I wish the airfare is cheap here so I could go back often but it's rather expensive

I am not quite sure where but I heard the HK tix are VERY limited... they are only releasing 1000 tix? and most of them who could get it are VIPs + people with relationships... perhaps you can check the concert thread. ^^

mliza and masterCP, yes the HK concert tics are harder to get (compared to Taiwan). That's because a large percentage of the tics are reserved for the sponsors (which is SO UNFAIR  ). His last concert in 2002 had fans queueing outside ticket offices for days (not overnight, but DAYSS)...so I definitely won't buy at the ticket offices :glug: I'm now hoping the fanclub could help us get tickets.

OMG! it's only now that i saw the latest post in the concert discussion thread!

Jay is on for Nov 11-14?! wow 4 nights? and the highest one is at HK$400! then that would give us more chances of seeing him, right? oh i do hope i could get those tix!

Edit:
oh, it's not confirmed yet hehe, but sure hope it's not just for a night... :wink2:

candy
08-27-2004, 06:05 PM
masterCP, the HK concert dates are actually confirmed (Nov 11-14), but not sure if they'll add extra shows (they did last time after fans complained :glug: ). (initially it was for three shows but all tickets were sold out within 45 minutes on the first day of sale, so they had to add extra shows...so....I'm pretty sure this time the tics will be gone fairly quickly :wink2: )

One of the sponsors is Manhattan ID (bank card company), and card holders can actually pre-book tickets by phone on the 21st of Sept. My sister tried booking back in 2002 (for The One concert) and gave up cos the lines were jammed for the whole day. :? But I might try it anyway...

Anyone here who have joined the official fanclub ??? cos hopefully the fanclub could help with getting tickets.....will update on any news....when I can...

Hey yo people, HKer stuck in UK. I just pop into this thread now and again- again being right now!

mliza & 2002: um if tickets were sold online... dunno... maybe spyers take your credit card info? but then again, the phones will be jammed. most "stuck in stone" way of making sure you really do get your tickets is going to the box office on the 1st day of ticket sales!

masterCP: the sites of venues are never as up to date as the artist's company etc. since if you're a fan, i'm sure you wouldn't rely on the venue's site to see what concerts were coming out! if you get lucky, they might update one month prior to the event.

um... i think my cousin will have to hang around to see if he can get "yellow cow" tickets. HK$800 for a cheapest ticket, last time (i think)! even then, there were none to sell!

mliza
09-01-2004, 06:26 AM
thanks for the info ftlouiea!! you make it sound like it's impossible to get the tix.. do you know when they'll start selling tickets in HK?

what do you mean by "yellow cow" tickets?

2002, hehehh.. i only copy n paste your name.. but 2002 is easier.
i do hope they'll sell 'em online. it'll be easier for us.. i think~

Hehe, maybe and maybe not. I won't know any time soon. Well I hope you'll be able to get the tickets mliza, and that goes for everyone else too!

Hmmm... where has everyone gone to? :worry: This thread is really empty now.

candy

mliza, "yellow cows" are scalpers

2002, awwww  ....we're here ! it's just that a majority of the Hong Kong peeps are not in Hong Kong  ...so the thread can get a little quiet sometimes...

Let's talk about something else (or get back to the topic of)....like.... shopping :excited: !!! Where do you guys/gals like to shop when you're in HK ? I usually go to Mong Kok (eventhough it's soooooooo crowded) and Tsim Sha Tsui....I shop for CD's in Sino Centre (so much cheaper there, but it's not exactly a very pleasant place, quite scary actually  ). I love shopping in Causeway Bay too (a lot of trendy shops...oh btw, Jay likes to shop in Causeway too...hehee  )

panda_shine
09-02-2004, 06:48 PM
Hmm last time I went to HK I actually didn't do that much shopping.. at least for clothes anyways... but I do love going to Wan Chai.. they have so much stores that sell those cute figurines and toy and I just love going to those.. and of course, Causeway Bay.. is Causeway Bay in Wan Chai?? ...I basically shop everywhere and anywhere!^^

¤ . 2 . o . o . 2 . ¤
09-02-2004, 06:54 PM
candy, I know what you mean, I'm not in Hong Kong either. I did quite a bit of shopping when I was in Hong Kong. It was in Nu Ren Ji/Lui Yun Gai (Women street)? Hehe, it's huge but I forgot the other name for it.

panda_shine
09-02-2004, 07:10 PM
oo yeah I love going to Women Street too but I didnt have a chance to go there often last time I was there... I just love how they have those market stands in HK everywhere!

ftlouiea
09-03-2004, 12:31 AM
mliza: i personally dont know when the tickets are beginning to be sold!! and yeah i make out its SOO dificult to buy tickets, but if you're there at the right time, right place... or anyone you know is linked to the inside staff... you'll be getting the tickets in no time! Ohh and 'yellow cow' tickets is what you'd say in canto. you know- when people buy 5 or 6 tickets at original price, then wait outside the box office till all tickets are sold. you have no other means of buying tickets, so you pay twice the price for one tickets from them... etc.

panda: i go to fa yuen street, or carnival street? and nathan road. the shops there sell clothes for SO cheap, though not best quality, but its so chic for people my age! "peng leng jeng" - in other words "cheap, pretty, great!"

¤ . 2 . o . o . 2 . ¤
09-03-2004, 03:59 AM
panda_shine: Ooow... yes the stands! :excited: I miss those. I got to go a few times, it is huge, packed and you know full. Heh, I can't really describe it. You don't really see a lot of those stands in one place in Canada now do you? :worry:

ftlouiea: Wow, people actually do that? So if one ticket was about let's say $400 then they'd buy it from them for $800??

panda_shine
09-03-2004, 06:56 AM
haha yeah LOL, "peng leng jeng" :D

Hmm fa yuen street sounds sooo familiar! I think I've been there but I can't really 'see' it in my mind... like it doesnt stand out ... :worry:

2002, noope I don't see those stands very often... actually you don't coz it's like illegal to have those on the streets I think... but we have Night Markets here and it sorta reminds me of those Womens Streets.... except they sell less "peng leng jeng" stuff

¤ . 2 . o . o . 2 . ¤
09-03-2004, 07:00 AM
panda_shine, *sigh* Even if we did, it just won't feel like Hong Kong now would it? Hehe, I always seem to express how much I miss and love Hong Kong some way. :shy: :D Haha, that's true, most stuff here in Canada isn't even close to peng leng jeng! :D

ftlouiea
09-03-2004, 10:33 AM
2002: yeah they would sell at $800 if they wanted to, or in the range of $600-$800 probably.

umm the thing with canada and england etc. the stuff that is "peng leng jeng" wouldn't pass the QC so no such things in our countries! ah but isnt hk so great, even bossini and giodano clothes are like so cheap! well compared to the prices in chain stores in england you see!

candy
09-03-2004, 04:06 PM

it's amazing how Jielun can pull a 45 minute trick on ticket selling for a 3 day concert in HK. Now that is more than magic!

Somehow, I'd prefer this concert over Taipei anyday, but the security about getting seats is dim that's why I opted for the latter. *sighs*

ftlouiea, yeh..I used to work in HMV (record store) and the staff there get a lot of freebies like movie and concert tickets..well...My friend said Sony Music gave them the priority to reserve tickets through them...She reserved David Tao concert tics for me last year too...$400 ones but not the best seats...so I really don't know what seats I'll get this time.

Another alternative way to get tics is to check out some chinese Jay forums. Some fans might have bought extra tickets and will post at the forums to sell them out. (same ticket price)..(I've noticed this during The One concert back in 2002)...so...might worth a try if you can't get tickets...

masterCP, if you're really coming to HK for the concert and have problems getting tickets, I might be able to help...I can't promise anything right now..but...will see how it goes

ftlouiea, hehe...yeh you might try and find a summer job in HMV next time..(but i'm not sure if store staff get the same "benefits' as office staff).. The downside of getting concert tics through them is you get the tics pretty late and don't know which show they'll give you....so...that's why I'm also thinking of booking tics through the fanclub :glug:

And Yes, some fans do "overbuy" tickets..!!! some are nice enough to sell them same ticket price..but of course i've also seen some hoping to earn a bit of profit

And you know what, during "The One" concert in 2002, a lot of staff at Tom Lee (Musical instruments shop/ticket office) held up a lot of the tickets for themselves..so in the end they had all these extra tickets. ..(My sister's friend knows someone who works there...well...that was why she could go last time..)..So, that's why there aren't as many tickets available for public purchase at the ticket offices... :?

Olive.... Hongkong feet are a type of fungus that grows on ur feet n makes ur foot itch (as Panda menitoned),.... its contagious n if another person has it and u share a piece of foot/feet equipment, u run the risk of catching it too, to my knowledge :?

i was even thinking, how come these HK peeps haven't heard about mankey hotdogs.. must be some kinda exotic food

anyways, so that's what "mankey" means..

MonkeyKing

oh i knew wat a hotdog is... i'd just never heard of the term mankey

that hotdog u posted up there ftlouiea is pretty mankey, cos the sausage is all burnt n stuff...

09-17-2004, 09:18 PM
lol, but the little doggy woggy in the bun is sweetie!

so you guys, what food is the best from HK you think?

I could come up with loads :-):
pineapple bun
mini cheese breads
kai daan jai (little egg shaped misture fried) etc.

ahh... mum shouting at me down to dinner, bye!

09-18-2004, 12:41 AM
oo I love kai daan jai ! They are so much cheaper in HK and have so much more variety.. like Chocolate, Taro flavours etc...

I also love eating at those little stands on the side of the streets near market place.. even though it's not very clean but the 'feel' is so nice haha..

And I love stinky tofus, ding ding candies... their junk food (Calbee chips! MmMm)..

hong kong IS a nice place to live...... so convient..... and guys there have really cool hair.... also you can buy so many nice clothes, sneaks, and bags there for a fair price (ex. adidas leather bag= $320 hk dollars or $40 us dollars) ..... ALSO... i saw so many celebs ther INCLUDING EDISON CHEN!!!!, otto from EO2, serena from COOKIES, and my sis saw all of COOKIES (stephy, miki, thereasa, and kary) shopping.... HK PEEPS UNITE!!

talking about the Jay concert in HK.... I realli wanted to go to it since I'm goin' back to HK at the end of the yr anyway.....

but its on at the same time as the end of semester final exams :ranting:

I miss Hk quite a bit, even though i go pratically every yr...cos i need to stock up on everything in HK such as:

stationary - much cheaper and way better quality, like I can get all those japanese cartoon pens/pacers

shoes - i love buying new runners from HK 'cos the style is more suited to asian ppl, like there are more varieties of Nike "dunks" + other brands as well, esp. if you go to Mongkok, there is like a couple of streets with shoes shops just next to each other.....but I'm goin' to buy those pink prestos that the girl wore in J's "stranded" MV...i'm totally addicted to those but they cost like $AUD179 here...and usu. in HK only about 600~700 HK dollars so its a saving ..and then i can buy other stuff

clothes - I just hate the stuff that they sell here...it's totally not my style + also there are more of my sizes in HK, even though i'm not that fat or short

CDs - i try to go to Lor Wu to get the 7LX with the stamp... i hope they don't sell fakes! cos there are so many fakes in that "Lor Wu Sing" ....also I'm goin' to "Wong Gum" at Shum Sui Bo to buy those pirated software cos its reali cheap as well like only $100HK for 8 CDs (umm... you did not read that :wink2:)

after my long rant of my partial shopping list in HK....I have to warn everyone that if you are goin' to take Cathay Pacific to HK soon they are very stingy about the weights and stuff like for economy you are only allowed strictly 25 kgs but if you had more than that they start charging u for overweight......since my mom's friend had to open their luggage in the departure hall to remove some of the items ...cos its part of the policy to cut costs n raise prices/fees
since previously, they didn't realli mind if you were 3~4 kgs over the limit

ftlouiea
09-19-2004, 12:58 AM
Ah dont worry, sesame, i will let out my long rant now... even tho im very sleepy rite now...

stationary, yes all so funky and cheap , can get all variaties, including hello kitty anniversay LE pens!

shoes: that street full of sneakers. god, and check out the guys there doing their lil shopping of shoes! other than that, mongkok sells shoes for $30 that i'm quite fond of, there like "bak faan yu" (white mini-fish) but have a deeper U at the front. My lovely shoes!

clothes: although us getting 6 or 8 in UK size, it usually means medium in HK size which is a bit upsetting, but very funny! :-) and the clothes are so peculiar, you kinda get used to it after a while, and love it for the uniqueness!

food: the fact that you can find offers and coupons for having lunch or dinner anywhere. so many cool buffets, and the variety of so many restaurants!

discounts: its funny that all HK people only accept discounts when they buy stuff. its like, buying a phone, if i dont get a charger, an extra battery, free film to stick onto phone, transparent holder etc. i wont buy. everything has to be bargained! but i like how it's done!

Oh last time I went to HK.. I didnt see much celebs... I saw Leo Koo + Gigi Leung at a mall function though... and ... Wong Ha Wai (the lady caked with makeup :bleh:) in Central I think...

Stationary: Yeah I love shopping for stationary in HK too! It's so cheap.. and I go into like every stationary stores I walk by...

Shoes: Hmm yeah some are pretty cheap like Converse + Puma.. but I think Dunks are cheaper here... my friend got a pair of really cute Adidas in HK for only.. $50 CAD!

Clothes: oh when it comes to clothes.. I actually prefer here coz I don't really like the style in HK :? .. and their sizes are really petite.. like their tops + tops are too short.. :shy: But I do like some boutiques + stores they have in HK~

Food: oo I love HK's buffets too! Here, we have like no good buffets.. I really liked the one I went to in HK..it was huge.. and the food was such good quality!!

Yeah I wish I could go back soon too... but I am not sure if I can since it's my senior year this year

The HK tickets will start selling on the 28th! omg! I wish I could go there to just buy the tickets! lol. I don't have that much money...on the 28th, it will be to or not be...

The news are going to have Jay's name plastered over the headlines with all the people waiting days before the tickets begin selling!

Me... if I had no school, and the weather is nice as it is in HK i would certainly go. I'd jus have to make sure their are no people who "da tsim" evil...

Would you do that?

candy
09-22-2004, 04:46 AM
yeh I'm sure there'd be fans camping outside ticket offices days before the 28th.. (I heard some fans have already set up a group to do "shifts")

Yesterday ticket bookings from Manhattan ID bankcard-holders started...it started from 9am (24 hour hotline)....I tried calling from 8:55am and the lines were already jammed...
and I tried again at around 11pm last night...and there was still congestion...some fans said they called non-stop for 6 to 8 hours yesterday...but no luck.. and I tried again for a couple of times this morning...and still jammed !! Amazing... :glug:

Hope they will add extra shows...

thanks candy for all the info..!! just read your post from the other thread..

so there's still a chance for us from overseas to get the tickets!! :wink2:

yup sesamestreet! cathay pacific is strict on baggage limits.. my friend went over limit once, and they were asking her to pay a fee which is almost equivalent to an airline ticket!!

Hi everyone! thought i'd join as i heard there weren't many hk peeps around.

Candy, I know exactly how you feel. I started ringing from 8.55am and was seriously gonna give up, i didn't get my ticket until 2.55am :bigyawn: i'll let you guys go and figure how long it took! Jay's tickets are proving very difficult to get a hold of and i only managed to get one measly ticket 'cos you need 1000 points for each ticket booking. I was so annoyed they didn't tell me this earlier. Anyway, all i can say is have patience...lots of it!! I'll probably try and get more tickets at the box office but definitely not camping outside, bit extreme for me!! Hate to put a party pooper, but those flying over for the show the chances of getting tickets are pretty slim, fingers crossed he'll have extra shows. If i were to choose which concerts i could go to, it certainly wouldn't be hk, it's way to difficult to get tickets. :depresse: Honestly, sometimes i wish he weren't so popular! That's enough of me ranting on, hope i didn't scare anyone off!

p.s. anyone know if it's true that he's holding concerts from 9-14th Nov as posted in the official concert thread? As far as I'm aware it's only 11-14th Nov so far.

candy
09-23-2004, 04:49 AM
Hi momo_j ! welcome welcome..!!! :-) so happy you got the tickets ! (eventhough it took so long... :glug: )

YES, it really is that hard to get tics...it's just ridiculous how many tickets Manhattan ID must have scummed. Each cardholder can book up to 10 tickets maximum (can be any ticket price...so you can book 10 $400 tics in one go); Each ticket has a processing charge of $15 and requires 1000 credit points. As of yesterday the order reference number was around 3000 (so there must have been about 3000 plus people who have booked).....and then One2Free users can also book tickets from the 28th...plus all the other sponsors and internal ticket bookings, there's probably only 1/3 left for public purchase... sad....

And about the added shows (9th and 10th Nov), the latest update I got from Maggie (president of the HK fanclub) is that the dates haven't been confirmed, and that even if there will be extra shows, the organisers might not be able to reserve tickets for fanclub members... (fingers crossed)

momo . i know hkg is very difficult to get tickets but i like the hungum collisiuem - the audio is great there . i attended jay's kul concert- open air stadium and lousy audio but of course i had a great time despite that - the crowd was so wonderful - singing along all the time with jay - so supportive .
candy . i am still begging / bugging you for at least ONE ticket - on any of the dates .

omg, I'm beginning to think, HK might not be the place where Jielun and I will meet (lol). This is making me so sad. :depresse: God knows how much I've tried to see him in Taipei, spent a lot of money but ended empty handed. I wish HK will not suffer the same fate.

09-23-2004, 03:29 PM
as to the ppl camping out outside the ticket sales office.... I really wish them good luck  ...cos wasn't it last time for "The One" concert that all his tickets were snatched up in 45 minutes....creating a record in HK history :D

now, this time I wish they ALL go by 30 minutes since other artists are "Incomparable to Jay" (sorry for the lame jokes )

as to me....I hate it cos last time the concerts were around in HK it was the time of my skool tests ...now, I have the end of semester examinations on at exactly the same day as the concerts!

hopefully, it was not on at the same time or else I would be thinking of all of you guys singing along in the concert and not be able to answer a single Q.....
AND since its a world-wide concert....is Australia not part of this world?? My J never comes to visit me...he went to NZ; so close, yet so far

I know you are not supposed to bring any cameras or recording devices into the concert...but if anyone does then can u upload it for us? :thanks:

09-23-2004, 07:52 PM
Ohh this talk about his tickets is very saddening... please stop!

momo_J, i know how you feel.. it's not that we don't want him to be popular, but if it's this hard to see him, you'd wish that he weren't ~

is it hard to get in with cameras or digicams in the coliseum? do they really check the bags or have like a metal-detector thingie?

'yup candy, add more shows!!

but of course, only if he wouldn't be too tired... i don't wanna see jay lookin' sickly n harassed on stage :sadangel:

sesamestreet, i think there's a better chance he'd go to Australia than here in the Philippines..

now that I'm going to HK to watch Chou Jie lun, I wonder what else should I do on the streets of HK? I swear I have to star hunt! Please let me see Takeshi, Tony, Daniel or even Edison...lord. *prays*

And I have to eat Dimsum and stinki tofu...I wonder how much would Ocean Park cost? :?

Oh!!! I'm SOOOOO EXCITED!!! :excited:

and yeah, sesamestreet it's more likely that Jay visits the land down under that our economically challenged coutnry.

candy
09-24-2004, 02:22 PM
mliza, you can sneak in cameras (they usually don't check, or don't check properly  ), but digicams not such a good idea..hehe

Yeh, sesamestreet, like what the other gals have said, there's good chance that Jay will tour Oz....he said at the concert press con in HK that the world tour will include Europe, Amercia, Asia countries (S'pore, M'sia, Thailand), he said he will go to countries where there are Chinese people.

Meli, hope you will bump into stars when you're in HK..hehee.. or you can stalk Jay.. :shifty: (last time he was here for "the one" concert a lot of people saw him shopping in different places... )

09-24-2004, 04:27 PM
Oh god..what was I thinking when I made that post.. hehe..SORRY, digicams are just fine...(I was thinking about video recording devices..hee.. )

Btw, if you want to get more good pics of the concert (in addition to the ones you took yourself), you can go to Sino Centre in Mong Kok to purchase some (they're really good photos)...and people sell all sorts of posters, photos, etc outside and near the coliseum on the day (they're of cos unofficial :wink2: )

Anyone been to the 'Stars Avenue" ?! There's really not a lot to see there (just some hand prints of stars along the avenue) and a nice harbour view... :wink2:

heehee...Felice, from my past experience, the best star-spotting places are Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui and Central.

Meli, dun worry! we'll eat at those small dimsum places in street corners! they're pretty cool!

ftlouiea
09-24-2004, 11:27 PM
Candy: stars' avenue is really not that amazing... the hand prints are not really suited there because they get eroded away by everyone tredding on it... apparently leslie's one was too badly affected by the erosion, so it had to be taken up... or that's what i heard!

if not 'chancing' upon stars, just read the 'Dong Fong' newspaper everyday, go to entertainemtnsection, and check out what and who are appearing where, so go stalk them!

are you gonna be able to go to HK to see jay's concert? :excited:

talking about the Jay concert in HK.... I realli wanted to go to it since I'm goin' back to HK at the end of the yr anyway.....

but its on at the same time as the end of semester final exams arhh...same!!
if only he had his concert there like one or two weeks later!

candy
09-25-2004, 06:01 AM
Dana, yeh, "Stars Avenue" is a bit of a disappointment :glug: but I guess at least there's another sightseeing spot for tourists  ...and yeh...usually you see a lot of people standing around the handprints of Tony and Andy Lau, comparing hand sizes and taking pics..hehe :glug:

mliza, no, I really don't suggest you bring video cams to the concert, because it's against the law to record audio/videos at the concert. The venue staff will not stop you from taking photos, but will catch anyone recording with video cams. so...don't try that....hehee..

Oh yeh, another obvious star-spotting place is in the coliseum !! I went to see David Tao's concert last year and saw Jacky Cheung :-), so keep an eye out !!

sesamestreet
09-25-2004, 10:34 AM

i don't think Jay has even mentioned the word "AUSTRALIA" in his press con about his world-wide concerts....so I gave up already! :nocommen:

anyway, there are some Chinese ppl in Africa as well but Jay won't go there.... :D

Miriam is comin' down under but i don't think i will go

now...on to some other stuff in HK... apparently, in Mongkok...one of the busy shopping streets ...Lui Yun Gai ("Ladies Street") someone threw bricks down from their house window onto the street..n this is not the first case in several weeks....I wonder why they are doin it?

'cos sometimes ppl throw rubbish out the window in HK but not bricks!!

sometimes those bright lights/signs fall on pedestrians as well but that's because the chains have rusted n couldn't support anymore

As with Men's Uno...you meant the HK edition !?? That mag is huge... about 37.5 x 25.5cm...but nice for keepsake...(that one is HKD$40)...

Felice, yeh I think that girl is the one in the DHC commercial. She's cute

hmm...maybe I could ask my auntie to go buy all those magazines with jay on it in HK...

the Taiwan version of Men's Uno was in kinokuniya[here in sydney]..except it was AUD$12.30, and that was kinda too expensive for me since all i wanted was a couple of pages of pics..

where do you buy HK magazines? coz i think most of the mags at sino centre are from china right? :?

candy
09-27-2004, 11:00 AM
ekyec, there's kinokuniya in Sydney ??!!! :excited: That's cool ! When I was still living in Melbourne they only had Po Hong and some other Chinese news agencies..and the Chinese mags cost a fortune..

Meli, that's ok ! (I hope they still have the Men's Uno mag..will have a look)

mliza, you can get HK magazines at the newspaper/magazine stalls everywhere !! (they're small open stalls on the streets), or you can get them in convenient stores like
7-11, "OK" store etc...The magazines sold in Sino Plaza are mostly Japanese mags..
BTW, when you gals are in HK, do check the "OK" convenient stores and see if they have any DHC brochures (they're free  )

candy: yup, there's kinokuniya in sydney. all the books there are so expensive[ well..to me anyway], especially the overseas section. And they have this manga section where all these school kids and normal, public people just sit and read without buying, coz its like $15 a manga book.
there's also Po Hong and other chinese book/cd/stationary shops in Chinatown[in sydney]..

ahhhhh.....you guys going to HK together are seriously so lucky. You get to bum around the streets, and think about all that shopping!! sightseeing!!!........and then seeing Jay! Live!
hmmmm..how long are you guys gonna get to stay in HK for?

arhh..I wish I was older and nearing the end of my schooling....then at least my parents would let me go overseas by myself.

General visitors can view the multimedia section (sample versions of mv's), but the gallery and wallpaper downloads are for members only...(you need to pay for the membership)

Hi, just an update on ticket sales for you guys. The last i heard, all $400 and $100 seats have been sold and i imagine most $200 have been sold too. There aren't many seats available anyway when it reaches counter sales, most are already reserved for fanclubs which is understandable but VIPs? - this is exactly what we are so what's up with that?! :? There should be more seats available for those who actually want to go and would do anything to get their hands on a ticket, instead of those who just go along 'cos they have free tickets :-x . They're often the best seats too and they'll just go to people who probably don't even listen to Jay's music - pah! hhmmm....they could sell them you know - and for a high price....no not good, just a random thought. Hope those that wanted tickets managed to get them.

Hope those that wanted tickets managed to get them.

yeah i agree. currently i know of manhattan card HK and one2free reserving a lot of tickets for their own customers. i think they should open majority of tickets to people who are actually fans. fans should not have to join one2free or manhattan card to get a head start, it just blocks up all the tickets coz people who dont originally want to go, go anyway coz they have manhattan card etc.

must be sooo frustrating.. i agree, the best seats should be given to Jay fans. those sponsors and "VIP's" shouldn't be given priority. and probably, they don't even buy Jay's albums.. :realmad:

~ concerts are for the fans!!

Meli, if you wish to join the fanclub in the future and the site still don't have an English interface, I've written up a guide for it HERE (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6125). It's not the best guide but it helps..hehe.. :-)

I know, it's so frustrating, but that's how it is in Hong Kong...it's all about making money. There are so many fans who have joined Manhattan ID and One2Free just for Jay... I heard from other fans that when they were at the ticket office yesterday, they saw the seating plan and like 70-80% of the seats were coloured (which means they are all reserved by the sponsors and organisers)...and most of the $400 seats available for public are the far back ones..

But we were all very surprised that there were still tickets available (we thought they would be all gone by yesterday afternoon)..it was probably due to the fact that a lot of fans thought there was no chance so they didn't bother going or lining up... :?

[Edit: I just saw a message posted by Maggie (HK fanclub president) at the fansite's BBS and she said the organisers will not reserve tickets for members (for the possible extra shows)...

aww...that's too bad candy  I was thinking it over, but if you go to the concert without tickets, would it be possible for you to find people selling tickets outside? but then I know it would be outrageously expensive but then...

I'm kinda surprised the tickets aren't sold out yet too. :hmm:

Meli, you can try that, you can probably stand in the area outside the venue with a message card (write something like "I need tickets !" or something...), cos even if there are scalpers, they won't sell tickets openly (they'll get caught if they do  ).

Another possibility would be calling the hotline one day after the tics go on sale. (I don't think the tics go to sponsors for the extra shows, so there will be more available for public purchase...hopefully)

yeh, wonder why the tics are not sold out yet...but I guess a lot of fans have managed to reserve tics through Manhattan ID, one2free and the fanclub. Also the seats available for public are so crappy some of them just gave up buying.. :?

 I might try that, if I'm desperate enough to watch a concert for another day or more (which is so likely of me  ). Now, now, I have to design that message card though. :hmm: lol.

thanks, candy. I truly hope they sell tickets for the public on the extra shows. *prays*

Gah, I need a lot of budget for this HK trip!
