Lee Jun Ki (born April 17, 1982, Busan, South Korea) is a South Korean actor. His career began with modeling, and he was first seen on TV in 2001 in the commercial for the So Basic fashion label. His first drama appearance was as a dissatisfied teenager in Nan Eotteokhae (What should I do?), KBS drama city series with narrative episodes. He later appeared with a minor role in Star's Echo, another drama.

He shot up to fame with the movie "Man of the King", which became the highest grossing movie in South Korean history and unexpectedly replaced Taegukgi (Brotherhood of War, 2004) as the most-watched film in Korean history with over 12 million viewers. Previously a small, barely-known actor, Lee JunKi has become a face and name known to everyone in the country. His next role was as the male supporting character on the Korean drama hit SBS's My Girl together with Miss Korea, Park Si Yeon, and lead stars Lee Da Hae and Lee Dong Wook. His newest work, Fly Daddy Fly which has just been released, has garnered much attention and media coverage due to Lee Junki's overwhelming popularity.

i seriously like him.

okay so the first time I saw him was in Clazziquai's Sweety MV. I thought he was cute. And then I saw him at Yoon Kyesang's movie Flying Boys and I thought he was cute (again). He danced ballet in a black tutu. cute no?

and then I saw Lee Soo Young's Grace MV an fell in love. He was so feminine looking yet he exudes so much masculinity. I can't fathom how.

I wouldn't have known he was the same guy if Linny hadn't pointed out he was on the Clazziquai MV.

There's so much a new set of beautiful teeth and pretty black hair to match it can do. XD

I really adore Lee Jun Ki. Like Meli-unnie said, he's so feminine yet he exudes so much manliness. I can't get over it. *_* And I've been seeing previews of King's Man everywhere, and it makes me want to watch that movie more. From what I've gathered, Lee Jun Ki's character has quite a few ... dilemmas to deal with that are sort of homosexual-themed but not really? I understand the context of the story, I'm just really curious to see how Jun Ki dealt with it.

And I didn't really get into him until My Girl. His character... <3

i was about to take a break, but i got diverted to this thread -_-; i first saw him on an episode from Drama City (i think that was the name of that program) on KBS. i liked him then with his spikey hair. i found out his name when i watched My Girl recently. i didn't recognize him at the beginning because of his long hair ><; he has captured my attention with his great acting in My Girl, not to mention his beautiful features :tongue: i hope part 3 of LSY's Grace MV will be out soon. i'm still confused on some parts and i hope that will wrap everything up ^^;

“The King and the Clown” is a very substantial movie. Taking even one scene out would be as dangerous as carving out a crucial organ from your body.

This movie teaches a lesson to the current filmmaking industry that is nearly choking with big words such as “visuals,” “style,” “actors’ guarantees worth over 400 million won,” “productions costs that exceed 10 billion won,” “filming in foreign locations,” and “star directors.” The lesson is the importance of the “basics.”

The movie’s plot takes place during the Joseon Dynasty. Jang-saeng (played by Gam Woo-sung) is a clown in the Namsadang troupe who abandons his troupe after realizing that it had degenerated into a plaything for the aristocrats. With a fellow clown named Gong-gil (played by Lee Joon-ki), whom he loves deep in his heart, Jang-saeng leaves for Hanyang for a new life. There he leads a show troupe and with his exceptional talent makes the troupe famous with a show that satirizes King Yeonsan (played by Chung Jin-young) and his favorite concubine, Nok-su (played by Kang Sung-yeon). King Yeonsan, who happens to see to the show, falls in love with the performance and provides living quarters for the clowns in the palace. He soon starts to cast amorous glances at Gong-gil, however, which causes Nok-su to fall into a jealous rage and devise an evil plot.

It is true that the phrase, “theatrical” has been used in a negative sense meaning “unrealistically exaggerated,” but “The King and the Clown” completely twists around the meaning of this phrase. This film is very “theatrical” in the sense that it has an absorption force so strong there is no time to question its reality. Based on “You (Yi),” the highly acclaimed play that received many awards since its first performance in 2000, the movie more than exceeded the quality of the play by wisely applying the original work’s scenario and dialogue, knowing what to put in and what to leave out.

Like the risky tightrope dancing performed by Jang-saeng and Gong-gil, this movie successfully walks the tightrope between jest and pathos, as well as between the hunger for power and the hunger for love. The last scene in which the two clowns walk on the tightrope together may well be the “last scene of the year.” The complicated love relationship that occurs between Jang-saeng, Gong-il and King Yeonsan goes beyond being a “special,” homosexual love and reaches the viewers as a “universal” concept of sad love. This is because the movie touches the sentiments of the viewers, teaching us that happiness and sorrow are, after all, twins that come from the same source.

The shows performed by Jang-saeng’s troupe and the doll play that Gong-gil performs for King Yeonsan are enjoyable in themselves as “plays within plays.” These scenes gradually blend into the main story, sometimes becoming a testimony to the characters’ emotions and sometimes predicting the characters’ fate. It is unbelievable that such a masterpiece could have been made with “only” 4.4 billion won. Moreover, the visuals in this movie bear a life of their own, due to the truthful directing that aims to dig into the deepest aspects of the characters’ emotions.

Lee Joon-ki, the mysteriously beautiful man, shows amazing freshness, and Gam Woo-sung’s distinct phonation especially shines in this period film. Chung Jin-young, always as good as usual though never gaining much attention, effectively reinvented the insane king by overwhelming the audience with an intensely expressionless face that looks ready to explode at any minute. The powerful force that comes from their acts makes it impossible for the audience to hate a single character in the movie. Perhaps all men in the world, whether good or bad, live like the men in “The King and the Clown,” harboring a patch of sorrow and remorse within their hearts.

Actor Lee Joon-ki's Fan Meeting Likely to Attract 12,000 Asian Fans

About 12,000 fans from various Asian countries will attend a fan meeting held by Lee Joon-ki, a lead actor of the film "King And The Clown" (2005).

According to Lee's agency, Mentor Entertainment, Lee will hold a fan meeting at the Jamsil Gymnasium in Seoul for about three hours on May 21 from 2:00 p.m. An official from Mentor Entertainment said on May 16, "The upcoming fan meeting will be attended by about 12,000 fans from Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia, as well as from throughout Korea. We've received applications in advance from those who want to attend the meeting."

"King And The Clown" has attracted the largest number of viewers in the country, or more than 12 million viewers. At the upcoming fan meeting, Lee will say thanks to Korean fans, who have contributed to the film's box-office success, and foreign fans, while singing songs and performing dances that he has practiced for this event.

The official from Mentor Entertainment said, "The upcoming fan meeting for Lee will likely be a large-scale performance rather than a mere fan meeting. We've installed a special stage and a large electric board. We'll also show video footage of Lee as well as stage a special performance that will introduce Lee's personal features."

LJK did not make the media wait too long and was there on time.

His rough, low voice was in interesting contrast with his feminine face.
Surprisingly, he was taller and bigger than expected. There wasn’t any girly trace at all, erasing my past impression of his soft image.

The host, Wang Zhi Jiao then asked him about his present movie fees. LJK immediately did a tai-chi and asked him instead: ‘So what is your fees as an MC for this press conference?’
WZJ replied: ‘Well… I’ve worked with the organizer a few times, so it’s a friendship price, will give a Discount.’
LJK laughingly said: ‘If there’s a good project, I will also give Discount.’
He thought he could escape but WZJ did not let him off. ‘So are you earning more now? Good price? Happy?’

The test wasn’t over.
As LJK was known as a Taekwondo black belt holder, a female reporter asked him to demonstrate his skills. LJK looked a little awkward, but could not say no to the calls from everyone. Ignoring his manager’s frantic waving “no’ from below the stage, he quickly demonstrated his kungfu kick. It was very fast, and some photographers did not capture it in time. So everyone asked for a Retake.
After the act, he could not stop smiling as he sat down, a reporter asked him when he started learning Taekwondo.
He laughed and waved his hand at the same time: ‘I’m sorry, I haven’t settle down yet.’ (:laughing: you'd see the whole thing if you watched those news clips ^^)
Finally he regained his composure. He said: ‘I started learning when I was young. It’s been 8 to 9 years. Because my father was very busy when I was young, so the only time I could be with him was when we went for Taekwondo lessons. Of course, it’s also for health reasons.'

It seems he flew to Taiwan from Korea in the morning and attended the press conference in the afternoon. The day before that, he was shooting “Fly Daddy” throughout the night till morning. But at the press conference, he was full of energy, answering all the questions and acceding to all requests. The one hour press conference thus ended on a happy mood.

[King and the Clown’s records
- In Korea 1 in 4 person above the age of 15 watched the movie
- After screening for 54 days, audience attendance was 11.06 million. It’s the fastest movie to break the 11 million record in Korea.
- It received the Best Movie, Best new actor and most popular award in the Bakesang Award
- When the movie finished its run, the total attendance was 13 million and is Korea’s highest grossing movie
- The movie was specifically mentioned by the President as a must watch by all politicians and public servants

LJK’s fan meeting
It was very difficult to obtain the fan meet ticket. It seems the $12 ticket was jacked up to $300. There wasn’t any empty seats at the venue. It was all female fans. Even though it was a feminine role in the movie, it would seemed that LJK has still managed to charmed many girls.

How did LJK capture the hearts of his fans at the fan meet? Let us tell you…

1) First move: words of sweet nothings
‘I will remember you, I promise you I will be back.’
‘You are prettier than Kong Gil.’
‘The girls in Taiwan are very lovable and I like this kind of girls.’

2) Second move: close action
Compared to many stand-offish Korean actors, LJK was very 'on'. He voluntarily hugged all the 10 girls who were picked through a lucky draw to go on stage. This prompted the MC WZJ to say: ‘Did you act with men for too long? Now you hug any girls?’ (from those news clips, you can see how hesitant some of those fans were. they seems a bit nervous about hugging him. the MC was even pushing one them towards Jun Ki's embrace :laughing:)

3)Third move: Sa Rang Hae Yo!
Facing the screams from his fans, LJK made the action for “I Love You” and said again in Chinese: ‘I Love you all.’

I watched the King and the Clown last night ~ it was amazing, a simple story but a powerful message~ I absolutely loved it! :bounce: If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it, it's well worth your two hours! It's weird seeing pics of him now as a regular guy, because he was so believable as a eunich :wacko:

Movie star Lee Junki, after watching the game between Korea and Togo on the 13th, after Korea's win of 2-1, stated that Korea would come out as 1st in their group (note: korea is in group G: korea, togo, switzerland, france), and would go all the way to the final four.

Before the match, Lee Junki predicted in his homepage that Korea would win against Togo at 2-0, and when they won at 2-1, he commented again on his homepage, saying that &quot;Korea will go to the final 16 as first in their group&quot; and that &quot;For Korea Republic, even the final four is laughable&quot;, expressing in these big words his joy on this day and the confidence he has on the team.

On the day of the match, Lee Junki was at a restaurant in Seoul KamNangGu with 30 of his company celebrities and staff workers as they watched the game together.

While he was there at 9PM, Lee Junki, along with his fellow co-workers, wore a red t-shirt with a red headband and cheered on the team enthusiastically.[/b]

"King and Clown" nominated for 15 categories of Daejong award


The film “King and the Clown” has been nominated for 15 categories at the 43rd Daejong Film Festival slated to open on July 21. The number is the most categories a single film has ever been nominated for in the festival’s history. The runner-ups were “Typhoon” with 12 categories and “Welcome to Dongmakgeol” with nine categories.

The nominated films were announced on June 20th at the Seoul Press Center.

”King and the Clown” will vie for best picture, best director (Lee Jun-ik), best leading actor (Kam Woo-sung), best supporting actor (Yoo Hae-jin), best supporting actress (Kang Sung-yeon), best new actor (Lee Jun-ki), best script, best cinematography, best lighting, best editing, best music, best art, best acoustic technology, best planning and best costumes.

”Typhoon,” for its part, will compete for best picture, best director (Kwak Kyung-taek) and best leading actors (Jang Dong-gun and Lee Jung-jae).

Comedian/actor Lim Ha-ryong has been nominated as best supporting actor in the movie “Welcome to Dongmakgol,” while singer/actor Tak Jae-hoon has been nominated for best new actor in the movie “Married to the Mafia 2.”

The Daejong Film Festival screens 49 of a total of 74 presented domestic movies selected by a 10 member jury headed by filmmaker Lee Doo-yong. To eliminate irregularities and suspicions over unfair judgment, the festival also operates a jury comprising some one thousand ordinary people from five cities who participate in choosing the best picture and the best leading and supporting actors and actresses.

Voting for the people’s choice award is conducted not only in Korea but also in Japan through July 20 via the Internet and mobile communication.

An official from the festival’s organizing committee said award-winners will be selected through a transparent process thanks to the ordinary jury, the first of its kind in the nation.

This year’s festival will open July 21 at 6 p.m. at the Convention Hall of the Convention and Exhibition Center in Samseong-dong, Seoul, and be broadcast live from 8:50 p.m. on SBS TV. ”

But Lee Joon Ki has the last laugh now. The 24-year-old has risen overnight to become the 'most beautiful' actor in Korea.

His claim to fame? Playing a cross-dressing court jester in the record-breaking box office hit, King And The Clown.

Fans and film critics alike were struck by his beauty - especially his mesmerising almond-shaped eyes and lovely jawline - and he has become the hottest Korean star of the moment.

Director Lee Joon Ik once said he worked the camera to capture Joon Ki's 'most beautiful angles', while co-star Kang Sung Yeon, who plays the king's concubine, lamented that she felt overshadowed by him.

Even pretty boy Kwon Sang Woo had to concede defeat, adding that 'Lee Joon Ki's beauty makes you feel envious'.

While flattered by the attention, Joon Ki, who also stars as a woeful playboy in the hit drama, My Girl, is quick to clarify that he is no less of a man in real life.

He spoke candidly about his love life, revealing that his first love was a university classmate whom he thought was his destiny. He had two more girlfriends, but is now single.

While in Taiwan to plug his film recently, the taekwondo expert also demonstrated two high kicks just to prove his masculinity.

In an e-mail interview with The New Paper, he wrote: 'Acting as a feminine character was totally new to me, and I enjoyed being called beautiful.

'Explaining (that I am not effeminate) is a part of what an actor has to do, so I don't really mind the constant talk about being womanly and all. I'll prove the manly part in my next film.'

He is referring to his new action flick, Fly Daddy Fly, which sees him playing a troubled teenager who teaches a middle-aged man martial arts.

He reportedly gets tough and dirty for his role, but whether it will change his androgynous image remains to be seen.

For the moment, advertisers still count on his effeminate charm to sell products ranging from apparel to cosmetics and beverages.

He is the face of both Giordano and Samsung Anycall, which are known to use only the nation's top stars, such as Lee Hyo Lee and Jang Dong Gun.

Some 50,000 copies of the original novel for Fly Daddy Fly also flew off the shelves after it was announced Joon Ki would star in the movie.

Although his image took a beating after he posted a pro-Japanese message on his blog that ruffled many feathers in view of the Korea-Japan tension, he managed to attract some 12,000 fans to a massive gathering held in Seoul last month.

The straight-talking star has kept clear of scandals since, and is loved by the media in both Japan and Taiwan for his cute smile and sense of humour.

He gave detailed replies and responded to every question asked in our e-mail interview.

He said his biggest challenge in King And The Clown was to walk on a tightrope and play multiple characters during the clowns' street performances.

He thought it was worse to fall off a horse than to be kissed by another guy - specifically, actor Jung Jin Young who plays the king - because 'you wouldn't know how badly you could get hurt'.

When asked to describe himself, Joon Ki said he is a relatively quiet person who thinks a lot and enjoys the company of old friends.

He admitted that life has changed a lot for him in the past six months, but he is 'too busy to be aware of the differences'.

Not surprising, given that success did not come easy for the Pusan native.

Moving to Seoul alone after high school despite parental objections, he took up various part-time jobs to pay for a film-making course at Seoul Institute Of Arts.

After failing in some 200 auditions, he finally won his first movie role in a Japan-Korean joint production, Hotel Venus, in 2004.

But he went unnoticed until King And The Clown and My Girl which were coincidentally screened around the same time early this year.

Some critics have said that his raging popularity may be short-lived, but he is still winning fans by the truckloads now.

Here in Singapore, some diehard supporters even rang up Festive Films to persuade the movie distributor to bring in King And The Clown - which it eventually did.

When told, Joon Ki expressed surprise. 'Is that so? I'm flattered. I thank you all for your support and I hope to visit Singapore soon.'

IT is not a big budget film. Nor does it boast A-list stars.

Instead, King And The Clown is a historical film with homosexual undertones taboo in conservative Korea.

Despite little promotion, it became an instant hit in January, selling more than one million tickets in a week through word of mouth.

In April, it ended its 16-week run with a phenomenal 12.3 million admissions, replacing war flick Brotherhood as the most watched film in Korea's cinematic history.

What is so spell-binding about this epic that has been compared to Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain and Chen Kaige's Farewell To My Concubine?

Some critics point to the poignant acting, and others, the vivid portrayal of love and hate between royalty and commoners. Even the gay theme that initially sparked debate was eventually lauded for opening up the minds of the Korean public.

The movie is about two clowns who are arrested for mocking a king and his concubine in a skit, but end up as the emperor's favourite jesters.

Director Lee Joon Ik (Hi Dharma) kept the production budget under 4.4 billion won ($7.04m), compared to Brotherhood's 12 billion won.

Asked about the film's appeal, Joon Ki said the emotional struggles faced by the characters are deeply moving.

teardrop: he doesn't have plans to become a singer, but i think it's nice that he'd release a digital single once in a while, esp. after fanmeetings if he sings :happy: there were 12,000 fans who showed up :excited: doesn't it feel like a concert, with all those special effects, props and lightings? i've seen the rehearsal for the samuri act you mentioned! he did a wonderful job with preparing for this whole event. props to him because he only had...1 or 2 months of practice and preparation. if i see the translation to any parts of his fanmeeting, i'll let you know ^^

A) Noonas came? Actually sometimes going into noona's message box, there would be noona much older than me. But if just looking at the appearance, they're like my real sisters. I haven't though of having a GF older than me by 4 yrs. Should be around 4 years older or younger range. Love has an age range.
Towards my previous GFs, dating them for a long period would end in break up. Recently I want to show everyone this. People who knew me earlier should know, in the beginning, I will do some cute things.

For you, I can be an actor and also a singer. So sing at whatever circumstances, that's not what I want. Don't want to be a singer, living peacefully is enough happiness.

A) Firstly, I want to give everyone here a present. I don't know how many people are here, but I just want to give everyone something. Second wish is for long live. Live to 100 years old. Third wish is for my parents to always be healthy

Sweetheart meets the Clown

KOREAN actor Lee Joon Ki is set to romance Japanese sweetie-pie Aoi Miyazaki in a new joint production.

Tentatively entitled First Snow, it stars Joon Ki, 24, as a Korean undergrad who follows his professor father to Japan, where he falls in love with a local student (Aoi, of Nana fame).

The two first met last weekend when Aoi was in Seoul to attend a Japanese film festival.

Here in Singapore, Joon Ki's hit film, King And The Clown, did reasonably well at the box office, raking in $63,308 in its opening weekend, despite showing in only five halls.

someone will be subbing one of the show that he appeared on called Drama City. each episode is a different story and he was the lead for that episode. that was the first time i've seen him and was impressed by his acting and crying scenes.

So I finally found enough time and began watching My Girl~ I really like it! At first it irritated me how needy Yoo Rin was, but I find her situations with Gong Chan rather comical especially when she was singing in the tangerine orchard and he creeped up after her Also, the music they use for getaway music is the alarm I use to wake up every morning. ahhaa, really funny that it made its way into a drama:D It's weird seeing LJK act like this after seeing him in King and the Clown and then all those interview clips ~ I'm glad he isn't like this in real life:happy:

Hi Jessica - I'm actually not quite sure as I extracted this news from the The New Paper, I can check for you from my Korean friend and let you know tomorrow ok, incidentially, I also read in another Chinese paper, that he is slated to act in another drama, where he act as as a policeman son. His father gets killed by a gangster and when the son grows up he becomes a gangster, at the present moment, they still have no idea which television company will be in charge of filming this series. Everything is still under negotiation.

Incidently, I have already watch the King and the Clown 3 times, I think I'm going to get the DVD on Yesasia.com. I really really like his acting.

Jordan: that movie that you described is the remake of A Better Tomorrow, originally starring Chow Yun Fat and Leslie Cheung. first, i thought it was only a rumor that they'd do the remake because Bi's name was mentioned as one of the cast. then there was a poll on which pair netizens want to star in it and SSH and LJK won by a big margin. he'll definitely star in a new movie soon, but he'll have a minor role. i forgot the title of that movie at this moment ><

WITH kohl-lined eyes and ruby red lips, his is a delicate - even fragile - and pretty face.

But his deep, husky drawl tells you at once that he is unmistakably a man.

Say hello to the new metrosexual - the cross-sexual.

The new term was first coined in an Associated Press report earlier this year.

It referred to an 'androgynous form of beauty' and 'pretty boy allure' that has gained renewed attention in Korea through actor Lee Joon Ki's meteoric rise.

Forget men who rival women in vanity and beauty indulgences, and instead, embrace men who are blessed with feminine good looks but otherwise, behave like any other heterosexual male.

Mind you, these men are neither sissies nor drag queens.

More than just bishonen (pretty boy in Japanese), they're straight guys with faces so pretty they can pass for beautiful women easily.

In the same way that metrosexual icon David Beckham made manicures hip for men, Joon Ki made androgyny cool by donning feminine costumes in Korea's No 1 box office hit, King And The Clown.

Playing a court minstrel who transforms into a woman to amuse the king, the 24-year-old actor was so convincing that both women and men alike were struck by his stunning femininity.

Some men reportedly went as far as going under the knife just to get Joon Ki's soft jaw line, while some women just can't stop gushing in amazement.

Singaporean Koh Bee Theng, 31, a camp organiser, said: 'I was shocked that a guy can be so pretty... his gua zi lian (literally melon-seed-shaped face), his small eyes and his petite nose and mouth.

'He puts us women to shame.'

Here, the Internet is also abuzz with Ah Bengs marvelling over how 'chio' (Hokkien for pretty) Joon Ki's character is in the film.

Others think that his brilliant acting bridges the gender divide and reaches out to women in a way not seen before in Korean cinema.

Administrative officer Jaclyn Lam, 23, said: 'He has this fragile quality about him that makes you feel for him. Every emotion is so clear on his face, which makes him even more feminine as women are more likely to display emotions.'

What's most fascinating to fans like Ms Jenny Oh, 39, however, is how Joon Ki can be as feminine in the movie as he is masculine in real life.

'He looks as good as a woman, if not better, but he's not feminine in behaviour,' said Ms Oh, who runs an advertising and publishing firm.

'It's the way he conducts himself, how he's hyperactive and funny (when he gives interviews).'

Added businesswoman Wendy Ho, 52, who flew to Seoul to attend Joon Ki's fan meeting: 'He's boyish in person. He can break dance, he does a mean taekwondo high kick, and he has a deep voice.

'I'm taken aback by how well he can act as a girl.'

Despite stoking the cross-sexual phenomenon in Korea, Joon Ki and his pretty boy peers, such as Kang Dong Won and Jo In Sung, are hardly pioneers in the androgynous movement in the region.

As early as in the late 1980's, Japan's male-centric visual rock bands like Malice Mizer and Luna Sea had already applied eyeliner and donned female costumes as visual stunts.

While some band members have since tamed their wild hair and become fathers, they have inadvertently left a cosplay (costume play) legacy in Japan's music scene.

The 1990's continued to be a golden era for Japan's lanky, long-haired pretty boys, like the iconic Takuya Kimura.

FROM JAPAN TO TAIWAN

Crossing the millennium, however, the pretty-boy factory shifted base to Taiwan with the meteoric rise of F4 quartet - namely Jerry Yen, Vic Chou, Ken Chu and Vanness Wu - from the hit drama, Meteor Garden.

But the biggest cross-sexual is arguably Joe Cheng, who plays an effeminate chap who falls in love with both his half-brother and half-sister in the hit drama, The Rose.

His real-life sexuality is still a mystery, but it has not affected his A-list status in idol dramas.

Perhaps his closest rivals are: Singer-host Zax Wang of pop group 5566 and singer-actor Roy Chiu, who is set to cross-dress in a pictorial book slated for release in September.

Even in Singapore, we have our own cross-sexual rocker Huang Yida, whose girlish facial features are said to be a spitting image of pretty songbird Stefanie Sun.

Only this year did the androgynous wave finally hit Korea.

It was no doubt slow in coming, but it made a massive splash with Joon Ki's burgeoning popularity both in and out of Korea.

Not only is he the most sought-after idol of the moment, he's also the ideal date for many women. (See report above.)

But the question remains, how long can he keep the cross-sexual wave going before the next craze comes along?

The reaction we got was mixed: Some think it'd be fun, while others feel it's too strange.

Administrative assistant Jaclyn Lam, 23, said: 'I don't mind if he's prettier than me because it's personality that matters more.

'It might be quite fun. We can compare tips on how to dress and go around confusing people.'

Added Ms Ursula Feng, 39, a personal assistant: 'If it's just his features (that are feminine) and he's actually quite manly, why not? But I can't take metrosexuals because they're too vain!'

But project manager Florence Lee, 28, finds Lee Joon Ki's cross-sexual appeal too weird to stomach.

'I'm put off by his uncertain gender and his eyes are so small that he looks like an alien,' she said.

'Of course I won't date him. People will be wondering if I'm the guy or the girl.'

As for the men, few find the cross-sexual concept appealing given the social stigma against effeminate looking guys.

Graphic designer Rick Tang, 30, said: 'Most guys won't want to accentuate their feminine side for fear of being labelled ah gua (effeminate in Hokkien) or faggot.

'Looking like a girl may pull in more chicks, but it could also attract the wrong attention!'

Yoo Ri's character does grow on you, I was surprised. She reminds me of Kim Tae Hee, especially in the eyes.

South Korean actor Lee Jun-ki holds his Best New Actor award for the movie "King and the Clown" at the 43rd Daejong Film Festival be held at the Seoul COEX Convention Center on Friday.

"King and the Clown" grasped seven awards, including best picture, best director (Lee Jun-ik), best leading actor (Kam Woo-sung), best supporting actor (Yoo Hae-jin), best new actor (Lee Jun-ki), best script and best cinematography

The film has been nominated for 15 categories. The number is the most categories a single film has ever been nominated for in the festival's history.

Daejong, or "grand bell," and the Blue Dragon Awards are the two most prestigious film awards in South Korea.

I was depressed, says Joon Ki

LIVING under constant scrutiny and drawing flak drove Korean actor Lee Joon Ki into depression earlier this year, he admitted last week.

The 24-year-old became a household name after playing a cross-dressing minstrel in the film, King And The Clown.

He said: 'My surroundings were changing so fast and people were so concerned about me that I didn't dare step out of the house. To overcome depression, I had to scream my lungs out in my own room. I lost my mind.'

It pained him to read rumours and criticism about himself, he added.

'I think that I'm only a minute figure, but I get exaggerated too much. I still act rashly whenever I encounter something unexpected. I need more time for adjustment.'

Professionally, however, Joon Ki's career has been smooth-sailing.

He just picked up a Best New Actor award and two popularity awards (local and overseas) at the prestigious 43rd Daejong Film Festival held in Seoul last Friday His win is one of the seven titles that King And The Clown snared. It also won Best Director and Best Picture.

Tickets for Film “Fly Daddy” Sold Out before Opening


Tickets for the upcoming movie “Fly Daddy” have been sold out even before the movie’s opening as moviegoers rushed to buy tickets. The viewers are anxious not to miss the opportunity to see its lead actors, Lee Mun-shik and Lee Jun-ki, who are scheduled to welcome viewers personally on the day of the film’s opening.

The two actors will meet with viewers on August 3, the movie’s opening date, at the Daehan Theater (430 seats) and the Seoul Theater (900 seats). With two weeks to go before the movie’s premiere, fans flocked to book tickets, showing an unprecedented response in domestic box-office history. Tickets that went on sale via the Internet on July 21 were sold out immediately, and box-office sales that began the following day closed in just two hours.

Ardent fans stood in lines from 3 a.m. at the Daehan Theater so as not to miss the two lead actors of “Fly Daddy” introducing the movie in person. Those who missed tickets for the timeslot when the two stars are scheduled to appear onstage were frustrated to learn that all tickets had already been sold out. The announcement of additional stage appearances by the two Lees will likely elicit an equally explosive response from viewers.

”Fly Daddy” is a story about an embattled 39-year-old head of a family who receives special training from a skilled 19-year-old brawler and is reborn as a hero.

Slated to open on August 3, the movie is expected to evoke much laughter from viewers.

Yea, I heard that the movie did not get good ratings because it was not as good as the novel. It didn't tell why the character that Junki plays is always acting cool, wheras in the novel, it hinted that the character was discriminated against due to him being a mix of japanese and korean...or suomething like that.
I still really want to see the movie though, hope junki's not too hurt about the bad reviews. There's nothing criticising his acting, just the plot of the movie.

grace: i was disappointed with the critic's review, but i won't give up hope yet until i watch it ^^ the documentary i was referring to is the mnet interview. i did learn a lot about him from watching that. many are attracted to his eyes more than other features because they are unique. that was what caught my attention when i first saw him onscreen. he jokes about his looks many times before :D the stunts in King's Man were mostly done by the actors, but there are times when they need a stunt double. you can find all Junki's media in seirin's clubbox ^^ it's not id/pw protected so anyone can access it. i didn't DL much promo clips from King's Man except the ones where he went to Taiwan to promote this movie. those are a must keep! i posted the links to Drama City a few pages back...here (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showpost.php?p=656493&postcount=198).

To Jessica:The diary entry was on 11th of August, 2006. It was only a couple of days ago. I've been behind on his news too. I heard he is going to film another movie soon. So far he hasn'tbeen the main character for any movie or drama yet even though he was the main attraction. I'm still looking forward to him getting the best actor award.

"Honestly, I wanted to go watch 'The Host' but for some reason it made me hesitate. I guess I did not want to add another number to the audience record," said Lee Jun Gi, the super rookie who got rose to stardom by starring in the movie 'King and the Clown' (Producer; Lee Jun Yik Developer; Eagle Pictures, Cine World).

'King and the Clown' has a top record of viewers in Korea (12,300,000 viewers). However, 'The Host' is chasing fast after 'King and the Clown.' This can be threatening for Lee Jun Gi and his staff, especially when 'The Host' is setting records for 'the most number of viewers in the least amount of time' everyday.

"After I heard about the breaking records of 'The Host,' I realized that this movie (The Host) is what's on the top of the list nowadays," the super rookie added.

It certainly does sound like he is right. 'The Host' is still breaking the record everyday as we speak and hear.

Lee Jun-ki Appears in Korea-Japan Joint Film


Actor Lee Jun-ki has been cast in the Korea-Japan joint production “First Snow” directed by Han Sang-hee, who earned a reputation for producing music videos by working with famous singers including Rain and Ivy.

The Japanese Sponichi Shimbun reported Wednesday that Lee had participated in the movie's first shoot in Kyoto on Monday, with rising Japanese actress Aoi Miyazaki playing opposite his character.

Lee plays a Korean university student who moves to Japan when his father gets a job there as an exchange professor. He has a brief but romantic fling with a high school girl (Miyazaki) with a complicated and difficult family background.

The film is co-sponsored by CJ Entertainment and Kadokawa Herald Pictures and produced by Guardtec, which also produced Lee’s recent film “Fly Daddy Fly.”

The two stars expressed their hopes in shooting the film. “I hope this film helps improve friendly relations between the two nations,” Lee said. Miyazaki, who is appearing in a foreign film for the first time, said, “I will study Korean hard so that I can speak it naturally and act naturally.”

The 21-year-old actress rose to stardom through her role in “Nana,” which became a big hit in Japan last year. Despite her short career, she has been recognized for her performances several times. She received the best actress award at the Festival des 3Continents in 2002 and the young actress award at the Nikkan Sports Film Award.

“First Snow” will end shooting by the end of the year and be released concurrently in Korea and Japan next spring.

During his four-day visit to Japan, Lee will hold a number of interviews with the Japanese media.

Actor Lee Jun-ki to Appear on Special Chinese TV Show

Actor Lee Jun-ki has been invited to a Chinese TV show specially arranged jointly by Shanghai Dragon TV and Shanghai Media Group to celebrate the Chinese New Year. He is the only Korean star among some 300 Asian stars invited, evidence of his growing popularity in China.

On the show to be aired on the Chinese New Year's day, Lee will introduce Korean food and announce his New Year resolutions. Upon hearing the news, many of his Chinese fans have excitedly made predictions about the food he will introduce, which has ranged from ginseng to kimchi, and suggestions about segments of the show in which they want him to appear.

Some of his fans want him to dance or sing a song, while most of them want to see his Taekwondo skills, which he learned as a young boy.

But the production team of the show said that they need to further discuss the matter with Lee because he is rather introverted.
