[06/02/06] 周杰倫﹕大陸歌迷質素低 網民震驚 質疑才華
[06/02/06] Jay Chou: Quality of Mainland fans are very poor
Online fans are shocked, questioning his talent.

周杰倫一向惹是非,想不到狗年伊始,身在日本舉行2場演唱會的他,因為早前的一番說話,引起內地網民不滿, 群起攻之。
Renowned for his annoyance of the media and rumours, Jay, who currently is in Japan preparing for his two concerts, would certainly not have thought that at the beginning of the New Year, things he had said previously, would be causing such heavy discontent among internet users in Mainland China to provoke attacks against him online.
周杰倫日前接受鳳凰衛視記者採訪時,說了一句﹕「大陸歌迷質素很低,只會跟風,好像一棵牆頭草,他們根本不 懂我的音樂。」
Recently, Jay Chou had accepted an interview from the broadcasting channel, Phoenix, where he had said that “the quality of mainland fans is very low, they only follow the crowd, just like the tips of grass, they simply don’t understand my music.”
當記者問他,哪為什麼還頻密地到內地宣傳﹖難道內地歌迷對他來說不重要嗎﹖周杰倫說﹕「我根本不喜歡到內地 ,但這是公司安排好的,也無辦法。」
When the reporter asked him why then, did he still go to promote his music in the Mainland? Were the mainland fans just not important to him? To which he replied, “I frankly don’t like the Mainland, but this is what the company arrangements are, so I have no say over that.
此番話令到內地觀眾震驚,除了在網上作出批評外,更質疑他的才華,似乎他必須再費唇舌解畫了。
What Jay has said this time has caused the inland audience to be very shocked. Besides online criticism of the artist, people are questioning his talent, and essentially telling Jay to explain himself personally on this incident.
---------------------------------------------------
Couldn't find any news about this here, but I personally wanted to know what the faff was about, and for anyone else curious.
If this IS the reality, Jay is in a bit of a pickle. No doubt.
EDIT//
Ah ah! I knew it! I know he would not say such stuff about his fans. =)
Those are rumours started by someone who hates him.

ahhhhhh i saw this today on Phoenix channel....didn't understand what they were talking about but now i understand...(thanks ftlouiea) it went on and on about jay....

I think he's entitled to his own opinion about his fans. Honestly, it's not like every day people don't do things like that as well. I mean, we are nice and talk to people we don't necessarily love all the time. I can understand if he doesn't like those certain fans because they like him for the wrong reasons. I wouldn't really like it much either if people liked me just because everyone else did and not necessarily who I am and what I can do. To be fair though, he really shouldn't have lumped ALL of the mainland fans together. Not everyone is like that.
I don't understand why they are criticising his talent because of him opinion on the mainland fans though...

i dont know why they make such a big deal out of it. Jay is human too, he has his own opinion and thoughts.
i have to admit that he has changed, as in the way he is atm. but he had never voiced out his opinions about some particular people in public before and never did he intend to hurt people. now that he has said something that he'd never said before in public, suddenly all people are attacking him and doubting his talents.
he doesnt have to like ALL his fans, of course he appreciates/needs/wants his fans' support. that's if the fans love him for the right reasons. if he thinks some of his fans like him for the wrong reason, i think he should and can say something about it.
i dont think he has done something wrong.

Wow Jay is being really blunt here...maybe he should not have said that, since mainland China probably makes a large number of his fans =S...but i agree hes allowed to voice his thoughts just the same as other people

Thank you ftlouiea (and mum <--your mom is so nice!) for translating the news. =)
Wow. He really said that? He has just offended billions of potential fans from China. I think even if he do not like the mainland fans, he should not be so blunt as to insult them.
Hopefully this news is just an exaggeration of the reality. I don't really believe that Jay would insult any of his fans, since he regards them (us) highly. He always calls his fans, his friends (歌迷朋友) right?

True, I think he's entitled to his own opinion, there is however no escaping the fact that he's a celebrity and has a public image to uphold. It's one thing if he was referring to the mainland as a whole, which still wouldn't be wise, but now he is just publically denouncing the very people who listen to his music and pay to go to his concerts. If he has a publicist I'm sure they'll be getting a lot of flack. Business-wise it was just stupid to make a comment that was directly insulting to the people support him. When it comes down to it, all these celebrities, musicans or otherwise, wouldn't be where they are without fans. I'd like to see how he'll respond to the this, if at all.

That's a hella lot of money Jay managed to recover, at no fault of his own.
cs_omigosh, thanks for clarifying it! regardless, its brought some bad aurora to Jay in the new year. He really is unlucky with the press, that's true. =P
(psst. mum's not thaat nice, it's just that I can't read too much chinese myself.)

it's rather true that mainlanders fans are of poorer qualities.
there's a mainlander security guard who molested Hebe of SHE when they were promoting their album last time.
and there are so many cases of terrible mainlander fans.. it's just a matter of time that someone voices out this fact.
and the manager is right. who the hell would insult people who supports him which will directly affect his salary and fame? the manager is really right to say "USE YOUR BRAIN AND THINK ABOUT THIS RUMOUR".

^ sinny dongseng, i meant that Jay's market in China is saved, otherwise that would have been a HUMONGOUS hole in his pocket.
cs_omigosh, it feels good to restore his reputation yeah! and it's not even something petty here, it's MAJOR.
that person needs to be sued. X.x

Why are they making such a fuss over a talk from Jay?? He doesnt like Mainland fans...that would hurt his fans in Mainland...like a whole bunch. But Jay has his own opinions and they have to accept that.

I don't think the people of China only follows the crowd. Whoever trys to sell their album there will almost surely get some fans. There are so many people there with very different taste. Surely, someone wants to be different.
I believe that there are some black sheeps there who gave a bad name for the Chinese in China. By looking at those black sheeps, its couldn't be representive of All the people of China.
I think that some crazy person is jealous of him too, thats why they started all these nonsense. Come on, he is a nice person.

Well thank god he didn't really say any of that stuff. I didn't think he or his manager or publicist would let him make such a comment, but I guess it's just another case of irresponsible journalism.
:worry: Aww.. How can they doubt Jay's talent just bcos they think Jay said that?... Although the whole thing is clarified now, what they said cannot be erased... Wouldnt Jay be hurt by all those comments?...
I'm still quite worried... Because this rumor, even though it has been confirmed that it's not true, has already affected Jay's reputation... And has caused some fans to turn against him!!! WAAAAH =(
x____x
whoever started this rumour... die. T_T'
i really don't know how u all be a jay fan? if u all love him then must believe him, and when you all love him? he's what kind of person you all should know, he won't speak those things 2 hurt the jay fans.
believe him ok???
i'm sad to know that some Jay fans hurt him and dun believe him

Oh well, I believe all of us here trust that he wouldn't say such a thing:-)
But i am not sure about the other fans, like the china ones.. They probably dont know Jay that well, and they believe everything the tabloids say...
Yea, I am sad too... It wasnt very nice of them to criticise Jay like that and spoil Jay's reputation... Sigh...

Gah. Now this rumor is shocking.
I wouldn't believe these types of accusations unless I see Jay
on TV with the words coming from his own mouth.

wow, this piece of news got me, when i read it, i was like WHAT?! no way Jay could have said that, he may be blunt and like to express his own opinions but he would NEVER say anything like that... like others have said, Mainland has a large fan base, all stars are going to promote in mainland, it is just not advantageous to say things like that... and I personally don't believe Jay is the type of person to say things like that, he loves his fans  hehe
after i thought about all this, then I saw the tite (edit:rumour)
haha, i was like "oohh, duh, of course, this can't be a real piece of news"
hehe, jen<---- jay supporter through and through :-)

We could wish it's irresponsible journalism, but it's not. The person who started this obviously does not like Taiwan being "separate" and wants to start a war and make a point, that Taiwanese look down on mainlanders.
Well, some people do but that's only because all the bad habits and spitting and whatnot is brought on by their own culture or lack thereof. Not all Taiwanese do, however. It's just a big issue with mainlanders and some Taiwanese that's been around for like 60 years.

I'm certain i heard this sentence before, but that time not referring to Jay.. i read it somewhere in mag, where it's reporting abt other singers saying this sentence. In my impression, it seems that they are reporting it's David tao who said it.. now they say it's Jay.. obviously it's false.. Jay's EQ is so high, how would he say something like that? Only those old old(or veteran) singers may say something like that..

Remember Jay's Idol is Jet Li? Jet Li is from China?
If people would have guess, a smart one that is, will know that its a rumour and it will never be true.
