His first girlfriend attended an American graduate school called Harvard, which is a very prestigious American school. yen - i've seen vivian hsu on ad posters at the hang ten stores in manila. try going to the hang ten store in glorietta, megamall, or market market, and you'll see her like EVERYWHERE! (hang ten is a clothing company by the way.)

kaye - victoria london is a dj on icrt, a popular radio station here in taiwan. i've listened to her show several times and her english is really good.

both siguro... after all, i think they're rivals in their field... and from what happened in the hito awards, i think jay and leehom didnt talk to each other even if they were already beside each other (leehom was standing between jolin and jay to avoid the awkwardness between the two)

and about victoria....my friends are frequent ICRT chatters that's why I know she djs there and when you interact with her when she does her show...she's actually really nice and she does have something nice to say. surprisingly. :bleh:

about jay and leehom...well i guess they see each other as competition (for lack of another term) that's why they are more formal with each other rather than friendly. Well, jielun composed a track for Leehom way before...Open Love (Da Ka Ai...I think). I do think that they respect each other as composers/musicians...well you have to admit recently there aren't much artists in Chinese pop scene that are as innovative as the two.

i guess they liked the plot of spring waltz thats why they bought it kahit nasa ch. 7 na yung other 3... ganon kasi process nila in buying, someone emails them the plot of the series and they have them reviewed, baka they find the story interesting (and maybe because of danniel henney na din :D )... gma 7 naman buy their series in bulk, thats why madami sila magagandang series... most of it packaged deal... pero kaya nauunahan sila ng ch. 2 with the new ones kasi they bought na so many other series in the past... matatambakan sila pag bumili pa sila.... :-)

Just finished watching it~ aiyo... there were quite a number of mistakes.. XDD It was really funny how they paired up some people who knew english wittosewho know only little. XDD I thought Zhao Wei and Vanness were funny. (not in a offensive manner or anythin). Then, Maggie Q looked quite dumfounded for a moment. XDD Twin and Daniel Powter.. XDD It was really uneasy for thos who can speak english cause they cant really converse with their co-presenters. XDD

I loved Se7en's performance! But I loved Rivermaya's perf more. XDD Jolin's was not too shabby either but her "thank you" speech made me laugh a little. :) The "hot part" was quite unexpected. XDD Kangta and Vanness did quite well too except for the parts where it sounded like Kangta was running out of breath. (With all that dancing, who wouldnt be?)

Lee Ryan was obviously singing a song not within his key. I think it was too low for him and the reaction on his face was really funny too. :)

Nevertheless, the show was really fun! Lee Hom and Kelly were great hosts. Specially Lee Hom! :)

and yes... lee hom and kelly were great hosts... i love it when lee hom did the "las vegas way" of hosting... an how he sings destiny's child's songs during the show :-)

hahaha. i had a laugh over the MAAs. lots of funny things. I wish they should've just spoke their native languages. Not much people wouldn't mind. There are a lot of weird pairings...Jonathan Davis of Korn presenting the award to Zhao Wei, Lee Ryan and Tata young singing together (it was terrible >.<), ok...i have to say this just because...Kangta and Vanness...I was really expecting something better than that. they were not in synch with each other. Not blending at all. Pressured, I guess?

and oh oh oh. se7en! wasn't he adorable trying to speak english? hahah. Well he was good. Way better than Sean (whom I expected to know more than him). and his performance rawked! Passion and Nan Arayo! <333 I really should have gone. well, there's still lots of time.

Lee hom was not bad and he was really good looking. He and Chang Chen (that chinese actor who tried hard to speak english) are both so goodlooking.

I am so proud of Rivermaya. The performance with the orchestra was amazing. I love how they sang bits of the song in Tagalog. very ingenius.

lene Jolin won the Style award and she had to make an acceptance speech and did it in english and she was well better than Zhao Wei but her vocabulary is not that eloquent, considering she has an english book out. :bleh:

I've been listening to TANK a lot lately. They have his debut album up in the downloads section. He's hot right now in Taiwan and they're saying that he will be the next Jay Chou/David Tao.

I have a couple of questions for the techie people here, if you could help me please...

1. I've been trying to install Norton Antivirus 2006, but an error message pops up saying that "Registry Editing Disabled by the Administrator." I am the administrator, but I dare not play around with my registry. How do I resolve this?

2. My IE just pops up with this Chinese MP3 site on it (no problem but the sexy photos/videos that come with it are annoying the hell out of me). I tried using a spyware program but it didn't work.

HELP!

another techie question but probably most of you guys would be able to recommend.

I dont know how to play soft subs along with a DVD movie. I've already downloaded and installed VobSub but don't I have to rename the sub file to the same as the movie file and then place it into the same directory for this to work? How do u do that for DVD, though? I can't make it work. I used to just watch VCDs and they were far easier to watch with soft subs. DVD, i find, is a whole different story.

Was looking for a thread on this in the other forums, but ddnt find one. maybe u guys can recommend or direct me to where I can have this answered?

lene you seem to have a spyware prob. they say windows spyware hunter is good. I'm not sure how it fares with chinese site based spywares though. the best thing though with a case like yours is reblast and reformat. T_T if you can do that. then do so.

CA hmmm, oh. is it a dvd that has subs? or just a data DVD that has soft sub files in it? if it's a video dvd then use PowerDVD or Interwin DVD player that plays DVDs beautifully like you do on your dvd player. Try to right click it always has the subtitle option somewhere there. For Data dvds however, vobsub automatically plays the video with subs if you subfile and the video file have the same filename. However for some instance, it isn't it's best to install this player...GOMPLAYER (http://app.ipop.co.kr/gom/GOMPLAYERSETUP.EXE). it's a korean based player. really a nice to have program. it plays almost all videos beautifully especially AVIs. It already has the codecs preinstalled. To play a subtitle file from GOMPLAYER, right click select Show Subtitle . It automatically plays the subtitle the way vobsub does. ^_^ but if the subtitle file is located elsewhere, right click then select Subtitle Explorer then choose the location of your srt (subtitle file) then. play it. ^^

Thanks, Meli. The Gomplayer solution looks like a good way to go, this still plays DVDs right? Actually the DVD I have is a dvd with subs but I want to use different subs as the existing ones aren't that good. So it's more like playing hte DVD as if it ddnt have subs then just using the .srt files I've downloaded. Regarding the .srt files, if I use subtitle explorer on gomplayer, do I still have to rename the subtitle file? not anymore, right?

CA I haven't actually tried that. but hmm, it might work. you don't have to rename the subtitle file. I'm not sure though if gomplayer works with .VOB files or the DVD video files. You can try and then tell me the result. :bleh: I'll try it at home tonight. I got My Girl in DVD too and it has the most horrible subs. might as well try that on that. If all things fail. The only solution I can think off is rip the VOB file off your DVD...convert it to avi then play. T_T I'm sure there's an easier solution. :shy:

I'm a fan of Kangta's music too. I have his Pine Tree and Persona album and love Polaris from the first jib. well, he's a very good musician and I assure you guys you'd love his songs. Well, siguro as a kpop lover there really some weird moments like that but it's all just for fanservice. that's about it.

Ok, I tried on My Girl DVD at home and hmm, it worked...but each episode is divided into 2 vob files. So what I did is split the subs into two using subtitle explorer and retimed the 2nd sub. T_T it was rather a tedious thing to do. But I have to rewatch My Girl, it's been months since I've seen it. I remember Pao dongseng bought it for me....The subs were so terrible so maybe the tedious work of splitting the sub would be worth it. and yes, Lee Dong Wook looks like Piolo. If you guys happen to pass at Edsa, you'll see his Timex ad in guadalupe, I swear you'd see the resemblance. I thought me and my friends are the only ones who've noticed.

and junki is here. uwaaaaaaaaa. I adored him since I saw Clazziquai's Sweety MV and Flying Boys...but I swore they were two different people 'cause he looks so changed now. hahaa. >.<

Lene, good luck with finding a job. If you really love teaching, I think that's a good place to be. I know you'll easily find a job teaching English. I heard from a chinese friend who works in one of the univ (cant remember which city) that their university has been looking for a lot of English teachers. As China is embracing globalization more and more, a lot more people study English too. They also recognize that Filipinos are good English speakers and are cheaper to hire than westerners. So Im crossing my fingers that you'll find a good teaching job soon. I'd love to come and visit Shanghai sometime this year. I have it on my checklist. Im sure it's a beautiful place :)

CA thanks dear! :flowers: I tried getting a full-time teaching position at an international school here, but they said I couldn't get one because I have no teaching credentials. Most of the schools here require a few years' worth of teaching experience and some teaching certificates as well. Anyway, I've accepted that this is the closest I can get to teaching: tutoring and teaching English to Koreans and now, Japanese too. Are you still looking for formal employment on top of tutoring? Do you have issues with Visa and staying permanently in Shanghai, or wala naman?

Yup, I've been looking for full-time work but so far it's taking longer than I expected. Job recruitment here is mostly through online job search sites. Unfortunately too, the Chinese Government has enforced stricter policies on Filipino passport holders because of the proliferation of "TNTs" and poor victims of illegal recruiters who find out when they arrive here - belatedly - that alas, there aren't any jobs for them after all. Heard that there are also a lot of Filipino prostitues in nearby Su Zhou. :oops: The police have also been knocking on the doors of Filipinos' apartments - mostly the ones who work here as entertainers - to inspect their papers and such.

So now, it's harder to have our visas changed from travel to business. Each time we do so, we have to exit the country. Good thing for me, I got my travel visa from the Philippines, so I didn't have to exit anymore. I was able to get a business visa which expires by the end of September. I hope to find a job before then so I can get a working visa. Though I should still be able to renew it for another 6 months.

CAfortunately, it hasn't happened to me yet. I think they're more lax on students and such. I also heard of a group of 6 Filipinas living together in a 2-bedroom apartment. They were deported; the authorities suspected them of not having the proper documents because there were too many of them in one house.

They were handcuffed throughout the flight home. kawawa cla. i dont see why they have to be handcuffed during the flight. it's not as if they can run anywhere else during hte flight. besides, im sure it was humiliating for these people to have the other passengers see them with handcuffs on.

I watched The King and The Clown twice in two days. I love the movie so much, I'm having such a hard time letting go of it :cry: Do watch it if you can guys.

I'm also quite addicted to JJ Lin's duet with his personal friend, Hong Jun Yang (or JY :bleh: ) called LOVE. It's the 6th song off HJY's debut album Unicorn. JY was the 1st Runner-up in Singapore's Project Superstar. He has a good voice, actually he sounds so much like JJ Lin. Try his music!

I just had an amazing time at JJ Lin's concert tonight! :-)

JJ's vocals were excellent, the dance routines notwithstanding. His costumes were a feast to the eyes: he was nearly topless in one :bleh: and he looked every inch a general in his Cao Cao costume. Special guests were Kym (Jin Sha) and Cyndi Wang. I noticed his female back-up dancers were also Jay's dancers.

My favorites have to be when he sang "Hei Se You Mo", Lee Hom's "Wei Yi" and Michael Jackson's "Heal the World" and the beatbox part where some dancers danced to the sounds JJ was making. He offered "Saranghaeyo" to his fans and he shed tears during the last line of the song, he had to stop singing to regain his composure :cry:

I can't help feeling a bit disappointed though because a lot of songs were missed out, and most of the songs he sang were the really fast and noisy ones. The sequencing of his songs is also not very fluid. All in all, it was a great concert experience, plus it was also JJ's first ever concert in Shanghai.

Got myself his photobook (which was sold at a discounted price) and a shirt.

Jes! I echo pao's recommendation. if you can..and if you're still interested, go for further studies. I certainly did just that, right after I graduated from my bachelor's. I went off to sweden to earn my masters and had the time of my life. I feel like i've gained so much in those 2 years that I was there. It was both a personally and professionally enriching experience. :rolleyes:

hey C/A It's a 3-month internship with the American Chamber of Commerce. I work 20 hours per week under the Communications and Publications Department. There's only a slim chance of me being absorbed after the internship, but I love what I'm doing and I'm learning a lot of things, so it's all good.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma right now. Though not yet official, I have a job offer from a prestigious hotel, for the position of Executive Secretary. The pay's good, plus they provide free board and lodging. It's definitely a very good career opportunity. The problem is, it's in another city (a second-class one) some 6-8 hours west of Shanghai, by land. If I go for this offer, I'll have to leave Shanghai - my church (which I absolutely can't live without),friends, etc. Well, just thinking about it already breaks my heart :cry: I know in my heart that at this point in my life, Shanghai is really where I want to be. But an opportunity like this may only come once in a lifetime too.

I gave this a lot of thought, and I realized that Shanghai would still be so much worth it even if I have to do some job-hunting all over again. As my cousin told me, I have so much to lose if I leave Shanghai - mostly my comfort zones - and so little to gain in return. What do you think? Also, if you can help me pray for this... I'd appreciate it very much :happy:

i know its a cliche but i think in that situation... you should follow your heart :wink2: i mean, whats the point of having a high paying job when your heart is not into it...you'll just end up doing you're work just because it needs to be done... and not because thats what you really want to do...i dunno, some might say that the money you'll be earning might compensate with all the things you would be leaving behind in shanghai...but if you're not happy, i dont think its worth it...well, hope that helps :-)

What's up with everyone? Yesterday was the last day of the infamous Xiang Yang Market - Shanghai's 6-year old counterfeit goods market and landmark. It was closed down to give way to the construction of an office and apartment complex. It also happens to be the favorite destination of Pinoy tourists to the city. Somehow Shanghai won't be the same without it...

oh thats too bad... here in the philippines, they're doing that as well, and its even worse because they tear down 50 years or so old buldings just to replace with residential units or commercial areas... its just sad because these buildings reflects our history and it shows how rich our culture and architecture is... i just hope officials would realize this and be very strict in giving out demolition permits :depresse:

Hi everyone!
I'm back fresh from SHE's concert last night, which I actually enjoyed more than I expected. Do check out my post here (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/showpost.php?p=648449&postcount=17)for the part about Jay. The capacity of the venue was 80,000 and though the place was packed, it was nowhere near what the stadium looked like during Jay's concert. A lot of people started leaving after Jay's performance too. I initially planned to do the same, but I was moved by the girls' performance (so much passion and you can really see how genuine their friendship is) so I stayed on until the end of the concert. There were lots of fireworks and dancing, and the costumes and set design were great (The stage was set up like a huge castle and for one number they sat on these huge, colored inflatable bears). The souvenirs were very pretty too, mostly pins, a dogtag and cellphone accessories. They also gave away M-Zone fans for free. I just love Ella to bits! She was so cute just being her usual loud and bubbly self :happy: Selina, being the crybaby that she is, shed a few tears during the concert.

I was looking forward to TANK's performance, but it came out rushed and I was left wanting. Maybe because he's not as big a star as Wil Pan and Jay, both songs he sang (Love Across Three Kingdoms and the duet with Selina) were cut to half :worry: and somehow the sound system wasn't so good while he was singing.

Wil Pan's duet with Hebe, however, was great! (Bu De Bu Ai) They actually had very good chemistry. But the problem was me; somehow after I watched the "Back Dormitory Boys'" (a couple of Chinese art students who became an overnight sensation here in China after they made their own videos of popular songs, among them BSB's "I Want It That Way") spoof of the same song, I couldn't listen to it without laughing anymore. Shinhwa's concert also took place last night (at a smaller venue with maybe around 20-30,000 seats, but also in the same compound as the Shanghai Stadium) and I only found out about it when I saw the fans dressed in orange Shinhwa shirts as I arrived at the venue. The Channel V Summer concert, which featured Mayday, Twins, Anson Hu, etc. was also held yesterday at a beach maybe about an hour away from Shanghai. I'm not sure what time it took place, but it was raining the whole day yesterday. I prayed hard, and praise God, the rain stopped as soon as the concert started! :happy:

gotta go now; will be up later for the World Cup Finals. Go France! :-)
