he uses his music as an appeal, firmly attracted our sights, and gently fastened our hearings. just like that we have been conquered.
this is because i am zhou jie lun
you're still puzzled, don't understand as to why zhou jie lun could remain so popular up to this moment.
it is due to the music enchantment of r&b combined with hip-hop, and also, the magic power of being young.
if you're young, or you were once young, you would have experienced this phase: love to boast about your self-will, love to shout out: as long as i like it, why can't it be?
last year at the taiwan 'golden melody' awards, zhou jie lun said the following on stage: 'i like music this way, this is because i am zhou jie lun'.
sounded as arrogant as anything. but we don't feel abhorrent towards him. instead we actually like that confident, not conceited, straightforwardness.
i: up and coming concert is titled 'the one', does it have some sort of special meaning to it?
j: means it's a 'second to none' concert. initially it was going to be just one show, but later found out an extra was added. also, the title sounds quite good ahhh.
seems that the title also signifies your status in the music industry at present.
(laughs)..ahhh? haha..not that exaggerating lahh. but with music, i am quite self-confident. some of my stuff are quite new, i also feel that i have improved compared to last year.
who, in your heart, is 'the one'?
probably li lian jie (jet li). (apparently, jet li had starred in a film called 'the one'). in my heart, he is 'second to none'. hoho, probably an idol of mine. he influenced my attitude towards music, also brought chinese martial arts to hollywood. just like myself wanting to put chinese 'flavour' or element into my music. i also wish to expand my career in the european-american music industry, and also to attend music awards like the 'grammy's'. as to 'the one' in my life, there isn't really someone who could influence or effect the principles of my way of living. i seem to believe in myself more easily, the person who could easily change me is also myself. probably more important to believe in myself.
so when do you wish to 'shine out' at the grammy's?
i hope 3 years later, probably. in japan, probably 2 years.....don't know what the world would be then... perhaps europeans and americans could accept asian music even faster? hope they won't be so rejecting towards music from 'outside', at least don't think that asian music is comparatively inferior. (jie lun spoke this at one go, obvious that these are words hidden on the the bottom of his heart for quite some time)
heard that you really admire japanese singer, hajime chitose, who has a special singing style.
she's quite good. there are too many people who can sing well, but only very few can sing with a distinctive character. having character or distinctiveness is very important to a singer. her ability to change pitch, even really good r&b singers can't probably do that. but i won't try and copy that. this is something that she possesses very individually. don't want to try and work out or copy other people's characters. with making music you have you make something that has your own 'flavour' or style.
you usually like to sing other artists' songs in your concerts, for instance, zhang xue you (jacky cheung's) 'fen shou zong yao zai yu tian', cai yi lin (jolin tsai's) 'ni zen me lian hua dou shuo bu qing chu' etc etc...
umm...some songs represent the songs i heard in my course of growing up. i really liked zhang zue you's songs when i was little. and the song i wrote for cai yi lin.....i felt i sang quite well on the demo. sometimes when you're performing other people's songs, you woul
n
d somehow perform it that would still give the impression of that singer..which is quite hard to avoid. so i would mainly sing my own songs. i'm afraid that my interpretation of the songs would give the wrong 'feelings'.
earlier the journalist from 'time' magazine who interviewed you said that your greatest distinguishing quality is your honesty, and could not find any weaknesses in you. and of course not wearing underpants is not counted as one. so please reveal yourself some of your weaknesses. (j: really?! <showing an incredulous but also smugly face> should really treat her for dinner..heehee..)
actually i have quite a lot of weaknesses. like doing things as i please, which means not following 'rules'. this can sometimes easily cause small mistakes. because the company might want me to go to the left, but i would go to the right. examples, could be.... (saying things that you can't say?) yes! actually this is not too bad, but just occasionally....not wanting to attend an activity of some sort, but the company tells me to go, i won't go. also another weak point, is i can't talk very well. things or answers that people want to hear, i can't really say it well.
since you like li lian jie so much, ever considered going in the film industry, like eminem, his '8 miles' received good reviews.
if there is a chance, i would like to play a role of a decadent musician. like those musicians who have talents but just has the unfavourable turns in life. but it has to have a good ending. perhaps the film can be like..on a narrow sidestreet, i'm there playing the violin (even had his shoulder up and imitating to be playing the violin, all carried away..)...than words spread that there is person who plays very well, and in the end i'm at a public square performing in front of many people, but still wearing the ragged clothes. cool !

i think that jay would play the role of a 'decadent musician' very well. don't you think? ^^ it would be cool to see him in his own movie~~ :D
