but as for horror movies...there is a movie called "Tale of 2 sisters" that is in asia...and i heard was REALLY scary...

the exorcist is a really scary movie and so is the ring. the japanese version of the ring (ringu) is not as scary as it's english counterpart. only at the very end is it frightening, but if you've already seen the english one then i guess you'd be prepared for it.
the eye wasn't scary in my opinion. i thought it would be but i was pretty bored throughout. the plot line was interesting tho so it wasn't a total disappointment.
i'm going to see jeepers creepers 2 tonite. i didn't see the first one but i'll come back and let you know what i think.
but for all the ring fans... there will be a ring 2 and a ring 3
there's also a ring 2 in the japanese version however the part 2 in english will be completely different.
heard 'the exorcist' is really scary. never gotten down to watching it though, i probably never would.
i get scared easily so i can't bear to watch horror movies. i tried watching 'the ring' but after about 10 minutes i switched off the TV.
ooh sparkling jade, i've heard of that movie. it's a chinese one, starring angelica lee. i accidentally caught some scary bits and was instantly freaked out. but my friends said it wasn't very scary.

i love horror movies since i was little.
used to watch it all the time.
i love the thrill of it.
sometimes i do have nightmares from all those scary movies i've watched.
one of my favorite is "the shining"... Kubrick's great shooting techniques and music kept up the suspense.
i want to see jeepers creepers 2... i've watched the first one and it's pretty good... i guess i'll wait until the DVD comes out.

I nvr finished watching the other half but the first half really freaked me out ><

ok kiddos... i've just come back from watching jeepers creepers 2...
it was pretty scary. i didn't watch part 1 so i didn't know what to expect. my friend saw part 1 so he knew what to expect so the 2nd part wasn't as frightening.
some parts were humerous... not like ha ha ha funny... it just made the audience more relaxed in between periods of suspense. there were some really stupid things that occurred such as a rope cutting through the roof of a school bus?????? but overall, it was a good horrific movie.

Horror movies are my favourite! I don't know why, they never really scare me tho...maybe because I know it's just a movie. Recently, I haven't been watching very many movies.
So far, the only horror movie that was somewhat scary for me was "House on Haunted Hill". But it might have only been because a few of my friends got so freaked out they refused to watch the second half. Plus it was Halloween night. But if you haven't seen it, this is the one I suggest!

:wink2: i am ok with all types of movies...but i do like horror movies...for example with i am watching "the ring", japanese version...i will be abit scared and get a sudden shocked when i saw the expression of the dead ones...but later i will laughed out loud when i heard ppl start screaming...haha  ...i dunno why also...just feel like laughing...
:? i have watched "a tale of 2 sisters"...i am abit horrifed when the elder sister starts imagining things...i her dreams in the earlier part of the scene...but when i watched till the end of the show...i pity the younger sister...of how she died...and how her step mother could be so cruel to see her struggle under the closet and not even giving a thought to save her...
 i am also touched by the elder sister...she "teng" and missed her sister so much...although she is unable to walk into the reality that her sister is dead...although it is not a good sign of not walking back into reality...but i am still "gan dong" by her...not forgetting her sister...
 maybe you all will like to try the offical web site...its quite a scary website...a good site that is worth seeing...
just go to this link:
http://www.twosisters.co.kr/
its in korean...rememeber to turn on the sound...the effect is good...
enjoy...hehe :)

I don't mind watching horror flicks where you can see what's supposed to be scary *thinks Dark Water*.
It's when you don't see 'it' that really freaks me out. *thinks The Others and screams*

I like horror movies..but nowadays it's like a suspense movie..the "ghost" go round scaring ppl...without any reason.. (Jun-On) so now I am hesitant to watch them unless movies like "The Ring" or "Exorcist" which can get me thinking of the scenes after I watched it.
But if there is a real-life action programme where they went to those haunted places and encounter "something" then it will freak me out. ^^;
ashley
09-04-2003, 07:20 AM
Oh that's right Hisashi. Those documentaries are scary because you tend to think it's more realistic, right?
I remember watching one where a guy goes to this haunted house and he's using this special, powerful big mike to record the paranormal sounds . Well we cant hear it but when he uses high-tech stuff to play it back, there seems to be a voice saying "I am a prisoner of war".
Till this day, I don't dare to listen to the radio if I'm alone at home at night. I don't want to suddenly hear a creepy voice giving me messages.
*shudders and leaps to another topic for distraction*

And I saw The Others too and I thought that movie had pretty good plot and idea (but again not scary) ..Oh I thought the 6th Sense was pretty scary (the part when the kid saw dead ppl in the house and he was hiding in the tent thing..)

 Argh! I freak out toooo easily watching horror movies. Esp. gross ones (ones that shows loads of bloods and guts) that would gross me out! I can't stand it
However...
I actually wouldn't mind watching horror movies as in... 'scary' atmosphere. I've heard people say 'The Ring' is scary and not that gross. So i'm planning to watch that... erm... *cough cough* When i'm not busy. He..he...he... :) (Ka! Ka! Ka! ^v^)

i'm not really into horror movies, i only watch it if bored or on tv. the last time i saw a horror movie is that stephen king i think called red rose ,i don't know i forgot, so my bad. plus chinese horror movies are that good compare to american ones, especially the 80'sand 90's chinese horror movies seem more also as a comedy instead of horror  , but then now i heard The Eye is good, not sure if i wanna see it.hehe

mmm..well i went into the movie expecting to see something along the lines of zombies and Resident Evil (the game) style story + gore....but the sad truth is...it just wasn't scary...add that with low budget british acting...it just didn't live up to my already low expectations of it...
nahh...i liked the ring better...it had all that japanese symblism to it...much more suspenseful and scary

i like scary movies too! i like the suspense and horror, it's just sometimes when some of the people or things just looks horrifying and you use a pillow to kind of block the view, well that's what i do and i waste probably half the movie just doing that when something scary comes up..
and at night, dont' you just get creeped out by the darkness and then scenes for that scary movie just pop into your head again and make it more creepier!

I love horror. Watched alittle of the exorcist. A pity it was banned in Singapore. The released VCD version has alot of cuts!
Watched a tale of two sisters already! my gawd. it was superb! Terribly scary and the plot was so well planned. It twisted all over leaving me hardly any time to catch my breath. 1 of the better korean horror shows! the best in fact. :)

I think "The Exorcist" is the scariest movie ever. How come it was banned in Spore, coz I watched it on TV when I was staying in Spore? :? The Exorcist is the one where this li'l girl is possessed by evil spirit or something, right?? Just to double check.
Hm... watched "The Blair Witch Project" and it totally creeps me out. Because it was like a reality show where a group of kids went into the woods and hear these kind of noises at night. They can't see anything, but they only hear. So it's more like very psychological. Just like Ashley put it. You can't see, but totally freaks you out. And then, these group of friends were lost in the woods. They're like walking for 2 days and they realized that they came back to the same place to where they stayed two days ago. So they're just circling the woods with no way out. So... it's kinda freaky and depressing.
I think the storyline of "The Ring" is not scary. But the scene where Sadako walked limply/retardedly, with her hair all over her face, and walked out of the TV, was kinda freaky. And it was more like YOu don't get freaked out during watching, but you're freaking out after you finished watching it. Coz I wasn't even freaked out upon seeing that scene, but I couldn't sleep for a week because the image of that scene kept floating in my head.
x_tina, is the american version of The Ring is more scary than the Jap version?
Whoa... I gotta watch The Tales of Two Sisters and Dark Water. :excited:
Hm.. anyone from Malaysia/Spore, I think you guys should try to watch "Jelangkung". It's an Indonesian horror movies and a lot of people say it's SCARY.

"The Exorcist". . . I thought it was scary when I first watched it back in high school. . . but on the 2nd and 3rd viewings. . . it just seemed rather disgusting/lame. Actually, that's the thing with most western horror movies these days, they're either just disgusting/lame.
Chuci made me sit through a viewing of The Poltegeist. . . that's 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. . .

Yeah. I watched the VCD, I think it is shown here a while ago. Quite deafening to watch it coz the girl keep screaming.. ^^; My bro-in-law said that the actors/actresses all end up quite bad..they went crazy right? So scary.. gives me the creeps..
Tales of two sisters gd?? hmm..maybe i will watch when my cable tv airs it.

What bothered me the most was when the girl's face turned to hideaous with all blood and as pale as a ghost. I watched that thing when I was staying in my auntie's apt. in Spore alone. I slept with the lights on for a week and always woke up at night for no reason.

Personally, horror movies which i can't see how they kill those ppl scared me....so western horror movies never really got that....
My List of Not-Scary at all
1. 13 Ghost, Ghostship, House on haunted Hill...anyth to do with the word ghost or haunted.
2. Fear.Com and anyth that copycat 'The Ring' in any way
3. Resident Evil (geez...it just destroy my mood of playing the ps game! Not 'horror' at all)
4. The Shining....it was spose to be the scariest Stephen King Book of all time but the drama just made me wanna puke! btw...drama??? horror??? get a grip!
5. Dark Water....i dunno...it scared some ppl but I'm just not used of thinking drops of water from the ceiling + little girl scary... the director must have lost a little sense of scare in him there...
P/S: I hate Stephen King book turns to movies cuz the director version of scare most of the time are rubbish...except IT, Salem's Lot and the shortstories, others are crap. I love Stephen though!
My Scary Movie List
1. The Ring, The Eye (most of with the title 'The', but not the sequels and prequels...they tend to bore than scare)
2. Ju-On (some ppl laugh but I think women who uses hand to go to places are scary indeed...and that sound..erghh...and japanese eyes when they try to enlarge it...scaaaaaaaryyyyy!!!)
3. Twilight Zone....it's more to psychological horror, like Stephen King's.
4. Hongkong's '3 A.M'...but that was long ago...i dunno if i still scared watching it...
5. Inner Senses....well, the fact that sth bad happen after that...well...
It's just my opinion.... i like Japanese, Korean and Chinese version of scare more than western horror flick...

i just don't like AMERICAN horror movies. they're so gory, the plots always suck, and the endings are so typical sometimes.
japanese horror movies are the scariest and the best. but most of the time, i'm too scared to watch all of the movie. i kind of just run to the next room :P
it's weird.. i used to be able to watch horror movies without getting as freaked out. but now, i think about it before i sleep, and then i can't fall asleep

x_tina, is the american version of The Ring is more scary than the Jap version?
the american version is more scary than the jap version. but if you've already seen the jap version then it might not be as scary because you already know what happens.
the house on haunted hill was pretty scary but the plotline has lots of problems. i don't know.. maybe i'm thinking too much about it but there were a lot of things that didn't add up. but indeed quite scary.
the blair witch is ok. the camera moves around a lot so it can make you dizzy. if you can get past that, then you'll probably fine it suspenseful.
anyone heard of the record? it's a korean movie. it's a rip off of i know what you did last summer and scream. i personally don't find this scary but the rest of my friends did.

The Ring is soo scary. I hate that movie! lol I couldn't sleep for months after watching it. The images get stuck in your head then every time you close your eyes you see it. Gah it sucks. ;D
I also hate Nightmare on Elm Street (Freddy, also in the new movie Freddy vs. Jason).. That movie freaked me out too.
I guess I don't like scary movies but I never admit it so all my guy friends think I love watching them and ask me to go w/ them everytime since I'm like the only girl that "likes" them.. >_<

I just watched Hannibal (the one with Juliane Moore as Clarice) and I was horrified to see him cooking the brains of that guy, who was still sitting there, alive and talking. Is that possible, for one's brains to be exposed and not die?
Hannibal is such a disturbing movie. Even more so to think that such cruelty and sickness really exists.

some ppl might say the english version of The Ring are scary but eventhough i watched the english version and just a preview of the ending of the japanese version , i am more scared of the Japanese cuz in Japs, the girl only showed her eyes but the hollywood version tends to show the ugly face, that's the part where it's kinda "err...not scary...just hideous"..bad idea! The body also...the Japs were kinda tall with long monkey-like hands and baaaaaaad fingers with no nails....and the hollywood version just normal...Anyway, i think the japs scarier cuz it's the original one...u know it is their idea and not a version, i think...

Yeaa...i agree with u.Other than the scene where the lil girl crawls out from the tv..the others are not really that scary. Before i watched the Jap version of The Ring..i thought it was scary as hell (well that's what my friend told me).Out of curiosity..i went to check it out myself..and honestly i nearly fell asleep while watching it.But there's no harm watching it coz some of u might find it scary...coz different ppl have different point of views right?? :excited: Basically the English version is just the same.
Cherily:Blair Witch Project 1 is really really scary especially during the end of the movie..u should really watch it!! :) Oh..Blair Witch 2 isn't that scary,in my opinion..have u guys watched it??

i thought blair witch project was the most pathetic "horror" movie ever. but maybe it was scary near the end or something because my friend and i stopped watching it 30 minutes into it. it was so boring
i don't know why, but i got very freaked out after i watched the ring (english version). during the movie, i wasn't too scared but AFTER.. i got paranoid whenever i saw TVs or computer monitors. hahaha. and i saw the ring 2 (japanese version) and i was more confused than scared. i just didn't get it.
i really want to see that korean movie "tale of two sisters" the movie poster is so cool XD

i love watching horror movies.......
i agree wif some of u guys that jap and korean horror/ghst stories is scarier than those western.....most western ones are just gross and digusting like "resident evil" and there's one where there's different kind of creature/ghost like baby sumthin....i can't remember the name...........
and if u guys follow the series of "yam yeung loh", the first few is pretty scary but the rest was crap and cheap storyline.......
i didn't watch the jap version of the ring and i dun think the eng version of the ring is scary......and "exorcist", well, if i'm still 5, i might be scare! it's just another slimy girl shouting here n there.........hmm.. a lot of the plots like "the phone" is so expected
one or two did scared the heck out of me like the part where the guy flew out to lee sin jie and shouted at her in the eye! ermm......
blair witch was boring, or at least i think it's pathethic...........
and is ju-on scary? i still haven't watch it
i heard there's a new movie name "the story of two sisters" iit's not out here yet, the trailer looks scary.......

Is that movie kinda new?
Have any of you guys watch Ju-On? Is that one scary at all? And I saw this Poltegeist II at the VCD store. It was on sale, I wanted to buy it, but I thought I have to ask around before buying it. Has anyone watched it? ^ ^
hey i just watched the tale of two sisters recently too... i think it was quite scary but i think still quite okay compared to ju-on(a bit humourous though) n the others... super exciting. yup anyway im a big horror movie fan!!

I quite enjoy watching scary movies...even though i get freaked out..
haha i'm like one of those easily freaked out peoples..
The Ring is scary..only if u're actually payin attention to the plot, when i watched it, it was at a sleepova and everyone was extremely bored...haha probably because i was one of the only ones that could actually read the chinese subtitles^^;;;
One of the scary movies that's stuck in my head at the moment is the Korean movie "Nightmare"
i watched it on SBS here in aus and it was like after Young and Dangerous 4 or 5..anyways it was like 12 and it scared the hell outta me...lolz
and after that i keep imagining faces popping up outside my windows and stuff o.O
The latest horror movie i watched was "The Phone" another korean movie..i think by the same director as "Nightmare" ..
anyway..it wasn't THAT scary..but i thought the plot was kinda interestin..and..well the little girl in it..i hafta give loads of credit for..wuta scary little girl! haha
it's interestin how lotsa ppl like watchin horror when it freaks them out..gets the adrenaline pumpin^^

After watching 'The Ring' years back..... I was scared silly. I spent most of the time watching the movie through my fingers, and I was afraid to look at the TV when my lights are not on....
After that, I resolve never to waste money to scare myself silly again...

always always always watch a scary movie with a friend.... i can never watch them by myself. i'd die of a heart attack. but i get scared really easily..hehe.
i saw the american and japanese version of the ring. completely freaked me out. i couldn't watch tv for like a week afterwards. i think the japanese version is a lot scarier but i guess that's up for debate. silence of the lambs is the all time thriller. it's like mentally damaging and disturbing. a lot of the recent horror movies that have come out are pretty bad now. so typical and repetitive. i'm going to see the texas chainsaw massacre this friday...hopefully it'll be a good scare. horror movies can be so addictive.

i'd appreciate those horror movies without too much gore... never watched a kor or jp horror movies before... i think i should try out "the ring" soon, but the american version first cause it's easier to find.

I can't say I actually ENJOY horror movies. I mean, I'd watch all of them just to see if I'd actually be scared by any of them, but unfortunately, none of those movies has really scared me yet so far. I'd feel so unsatisfied after watching each movie, but I just can't stop watching them!
My friends think I'm crazy because I don't get scared by horror movies. My boyfriend doesn't dare to watch any horror movie at all. He can't even watch "suspense" movies sometimes! I'd watched Blair Witch Project 2 in the middle of the night with all the lights off, all alone in my apartment when my roommate at that time went on vacation. And then I went on to have a nice sleep.
I guess it might be because my undergraduate major was in TV production, so I know how they do things and how they make movies. Everytime I watch a movie I'd think about how they create those effects. It kinda spoil the fun for me...

Call me a coward or what. I LOVE watching horror movies but i'm always hding behind a pillow or my hands throughout the show while trying to PEEK at the show. And the funniest thing is, I like to watch horror movies with all the lights off even though i will be shivering like mad.
The Others is a great show i love it. Nicole Kidman is simply a good actress. I don't really like the Japanese movie Dark Waters though. The story plot was abit slow and not scary at all. As you were thinking that the 'ghost' was 'coming out', it turned out to be a hoax. Quite lame.

after readin all the posts, i found out that the most popular is the ring series
yeah i love watching horror movies too
i applaud eastern horror movies
western horror totally suck and nothing is scary in it
they can only create intense and not the creepiness
i think the ring american version is okay
the starting is the creepiest
yeah and i agree that samara morgan should not reveal her whole face in the ring amercian version...it totally spoil the fear...and her face is not scary at all
the sadako in the ring jap version didn't reveal her face except her scary eyes
and i found out that the tale of two sisters won the most praises
actually that is what i thought too
but the time i watched it was wrong as there are too many people in the cinema and
they started laughing for most of the scenes
spoil the excitement! :-x
y no one mentioned about the white room? has anybody seen it?
i wanna know whether it is scary or not
i think i'm gonna check it out soon :wink2:

Yeah, I agree that by showing the face of Samara made it less creepy.
I watched Ringu I couldn't sleep for a week, but watching the Ring, I was totally disappointed of the fact that they added so many things that the mistery has become more and more clear. Actually, I kinda think that the video that we watch in the Japanese version of The Ring is much more mysterious, creepy, and it plays in your mind even after you're done watching it. But it doesn't happen in the American version. The Video kinda explained what they will encounter after watching it.... and it spoils the creepiness of the video itself.

I love horror movie, it can forget your reality for a moment. I'm going to watch 'A Tale of Two Sisters', which many of the audiences praised it so much. I've already watch the trailer...and It is eerie and exciting. I probably gonna borrow the DVD or the VHS from my sis' korean friend (Well...In NZ, there's no such a thing as asian movies.) For those people who wanna watch the trailer or wanna have a peek of what the movie is, go to www.twosisters.co.kr/ It's mostly in Korean, but if you wanna feel the eerieness, should be able to feel it. no problem. Oh yeah, I heard Ju-On is also damn scary?
And I agree with pop, Western horror movies are just so suck. There's no real horror bout it. The eastern...It's just look so REAL (especially if the movies based on true story, like: 'The Eye'...oh...the horror comes to my brain). I mean...the girl actually sees all those creepy ghosts in most of places? oh....geez...I can't think about it....

Most of the writings are in Koreans. But the main menu is in English...There are screenshots, trailers, interviews. There is a description of the characters, the backround of the story, but all are in Koreans. There's a multimedia section where you can virtually look inside the old haunted house and there's a section too where you are told about each character's experience in encountering the ghost in the story. In this section, there's like a picture with a red dot in it...and when your mouse-arrow touches it, there's kinda a surprise from the ghost in which that particular character encounters. Just try it...I just clicked all the 'clickable' links (cause I don't know Koreans at all), and I had so much fun with my sister. Not scary...but if you really feel scared...just bring someone along or do it in the afternoon. But be sure to watch trailer, cause the trailer gives you so much information of the movie...(except if you can read Korean, you just read all those backround stories.)

It was funny yet a bit scary.. :D I love scary movies! I think I prefer Dark Waters coz at least there isn't any scary whitish make-up on the actresses! I was discussing with another fren the other day and she made it a good point that nowadays there is always climbing of the "ghost" (from the stairs..from TV.. from window) and the ghost always puts a lot of white powder..haha..reminds me of my nephew's J&J powder! :D Just wish that the producers can come up with a mind-breaking, nerve-racking sacry movie that plays with human's minds!

hisashi, i just watched Wishing Stairs!~ Not so scary as the ghost is still quite in their pretty human form~ And both the leads resemble somebody~ Park Han Byul (So-Hee in the movie) looks like Jeon Ji Hyun from "My Sassy Girl" while Song Ji Hyo (Jin Sung in the movie) looks like both Angelica Lee (Lee Xin Jie) and Utada Hikaru!~
Ziwei, it's definitely scarier than "Dark Waters", if you want to watch this, better do it fast, it looks like it's going to stop screening anytime soon...

:D usually in horror movies there will be pretty girls
either the lead or the ghost will be the pretty one

Hey Ju-on 2 is coming out near xmas right? And thats like only two weeks away..my friends and i wanted to watch wishing stairs cuz it was like the only movie then at that time and i had something on after that..but i and one of my other friend backed out cuz we decided that we will just get totally freaked out in the theatre without anything for protection.
Yup and now my friend is asking me if i wanna watch ju-on 2 with her..haven't decided on anything though cuz the last time i watched a horror movie i slept with my lights and telly on for like months after that. :worry: Haha and if i really go this time..i would be sure to carry along at least two soft toys and a sweater for me to grab if things get real scary after a while :)

haha yeah...but that's really shocking! haha
the latest of horror movies are ju-on 2(representing japan) and wishing stairs(representing korea)
i think korea horror movies although less scarier but it has story lines and explainations for the scenes
i watched wishing stairs recently, and again the lead actress and the ghost is hot! (well they are both the same actress :D )
the storyline again serves well with the scenes :)

Hmm yah I thought haunted mansion was supposed to be a 'family horror' movie..it looked more like a comedy though when i saw the trailer for it. Oh did anyone watch scary movie 3 though? Its supposed to be making fun of all the horror movies right? was laughing my head off when this gal was asking pamela anderson bout a tape (referring to the ring) and pamela was like "oh you mean the one where a couple was in a boat with the guy saying 'baby i love u?' " Did anyone catch that part on tv?

i think pamela was asking about the tape. it was funny how she didnt realise her friend was dead tho
i didnt really like scary movie 3 tho. it seemed too cut and paste.. but i havent seen the other two, so i dont know if thats how they are. some of the scenes ended so apbruptly, i was thinking they ran out of money and had to cut and paste the scenes they managed to record :?

i've finally saw 'the ring'!!!... it's about time... this became one of my favorite horror movies... i love the plot and how the movie was shot... i think it's more effective watching it in the dark and by yourself... i was about to get the japanese version of 'the ring' but i can't find it... i finally understand why after i watched the american version... cause 'the ring' in the japanese version is called 'ringu'!... well, i'll be getting that soon... everybody kept saying that the japanese version is scarier... i hope so.
haha jessica get ready for your '7th day'! haha
i managed to stay alive :yeah:
yeap heard many comments saying that the jap version is scarier but these days nobody likes a remake rite...no matter how good it is? well alien ant farm's 'smooth criminal' is one of the exceptions :wink2:
one thing about the ring amercian version, the lead is not 'hot'
...well at least compared to the other horror movies' actresses
kahel
12-30-2003, 08:41 PM
the jap version is indeed scarier, sadako has much frightening movements there. Nothing beats the original and it has 3 parts!!!
Ring 0 is the scariest for me. I think it was Ring 1 that Hollywood made.:?
kahel, have you watched the whole series? the 3 parts u mean are ring O, the ring and the ring 2(the one with kyoko fukada) ritez?
overall i think the ring is the best although i haven't watched the jap version...ring O isn't really scary but many people got freaked by the mirror image of that old lady combing her hair and approaching the mirror with a wicked smile...
by the way, sadako looked the best here..never knew she was so pretty before i watched this..guessed i was influenced by the ring which showed how ugly she could be :D
the sadako in the ring 2 is a real failure...her face is not scary at all because they don't use bloody make up or white powder...they just put a silly white piece of mask on her face!
but something confuses me, if sadako is an adult when she fell into the well...how come a kid comes up instead? :?

Same as you cherily, I love scary movies though I just freak out! I have no idea why i love them but I just do :P lol guess i like the atmosphere of the scences before the shocking part, the bit just before you get scared. But I don't watch a lot of scary movies anyway, I want to see The Ring but all I've heard from it is 'It's a scary movie' so yeah, probably never going to watch it =\ it's already scary enough at night all alone at home ._.

hey, i just watched the jpn version of "the ring" and i think that the american version was scarier... i think i'm the only one who thinks so in this thread... probably i was spending too much time reading the subtitles than concentrating on the action... but i prefer the way that it's shot in the american version... the amer. version is more gloomy and dark while the jpn version is more sunny and normal... i can't wait to see 'the ring 2"... i hope it's as good as the first one!

the scariest movie i've ever seen is sixth sense. it's kinda old, and i've watched it like a bizillion times already but it still gets the creeps outta me. i still get goosebumps every time i watch the part wherein bruce willis just realized he was dead.. really, really creepy..
another scary movie i liked was the ring. i have to agree the storyline's a little.. wierd but i seriously could not sleep for the entire week since i've watched that movie!! i was even afraid to go to the bathroom in my own room alone! can you imagine how scared i was? anyway, i was afraid sadako would just pop out any moment.. *shudders*
i like watching horror movies for the thrill and for the fun of it, even though it scares the hell out of me. i haven't watched the ring 2 yet but i'll be looking out for dvd's of that. :D

LORD>...she's terrifying...at night i couldnt sleep at ALL her frkkn EYE...) recently DAWN OF THE DEAD just came out...last friday...i heard it was SCARY and good....
i just love zombie movies...they're terrific! i love being scared when they jump out...

I just watched Dawn Of The Dead! and yea, it as really scary and VERY gory!! I thought it was stupid...cause in the movies they didn't tell you how the people turned into zombies (well, i don't think they tell you, i wasn't really paying attention cause i was scared to death) and closed my eyes at all the zombie parts..popping here and there  ....but after the movie...basically it was just nasty and everything was bloody! It was just sick and i recommend not seeing it though.

i just watch "final destination 2" and it wasn't as good as the first one... the pace was not as good and the story was kind of boring... it wasn't scary at all!... if they changed the plot a little, i think the result would be better... the only thing freightening about american scary movies is it's gore... well, more disgusting than scary  ... talking about gore... have anyone watched Cabin Fever or Texas Chain Saw Massacre?

haha e-ping you share the same views with me about shu qi
but anyhow i will watch it...though i have no hopes for asian horror besides japan and korean
zhy378 yeah i heard about it too
eugotmail, if you like psychological horror ju-on is better
but in terms of visual horror ju-on 2 definitely beats its original :wink2:

I love horror movies! I only watched like 30 minutes of Freddy vs. Jason before i turned it off. I couldnt watch anymore than that cuz i was to scared. Their faces just freaked me out and its just really scary well, from where i stopped it at. Plus no one was with me at the time when i watched it and it was at night too. I also watched Jeepers Creepers. At first i thought it was REALLY scary but it wasnt all that scary. Its just the suspense that scared me. The ending is so harsh to watch. He ate that boy's eyes. I kept thinking about that and i was freaked out as hell.

I don't like scary movies! They are too freaky for me! Although I admit I do watch scary movies once in a while...but anyway, I get nightmares for MONTHS after watching something scary! I would replay the scariest part of the movie over and over again in my head, as unrealistic as it may seem. I recently watched Secret Window, it was scary! But for some amazing reason, I didn't get nightmares.

i've only just recently watched The Ring as well, the jap version, coz it was on tv.
before that, i heard a lot of hype over the film, how it's really freaky and stuff, so i never really wanted to watch it. but i was curious about all the fuss so i watched it.
yeah it was really freaky. more pyschological than anything else. but i thought the storyline was good. all horror flicks are corny and lame, but i liked the story coz it wasn't just about trying to scare us to death, it was about an investigation into the cursed tape and the audience was made to join in on the investigation with the characters.
the freakiest part was when that lady awoke to find her small son sitting in front of the tv watching the video....and the part when she was in the well and the girl came up *shudders*.
but i seriously could not sleep for the entire week since i've watched that movie!!
you mean you couldn't sleep for 7 days.... :shifty:
i'm contemplating on renting the sequel as well....but i'll watch it in broad daylight.

it wasn't scary at all... but the story was good... it kept me entertained.
my favorite is still "the ring" (american version).
if Hollywood's going to make a version of "the eye," i'll definitely check it out.
ker_ai_teresa : did you watch the Amer. version yet?... i find that one scarier.

I don't enjoy watching horror movies, but the ones that I watched when I was young freaked me out. For instance, 'the shining' with jack nicholson. I can replay the scene where jack's chasing the boy and the boy's trying to outwit him. He backtracks in the snow over jack's footprints to elude him. Another one is 'carrie' with sissy spacek. The pig's blood' scene over her prom dress is horrifying. And there's 'something wicked this way comes'. So dark and dreary that I dont' think there is a scene with sunlight. It is this type of movie that made me shudder when I think of carnivals arriving in town.

To me.. Horror movies are quite Ok.. The producer/crew/director just have to add some sound effects that can make ouR heart jump out of our mouth, and film the story with some skilful techniques.. Umm.. wat i mean by these techniques is.. the director usually film the whole story with some techniques that can create that kind of freaky effects.. Datz why .. We can even die watching these horror movies.. But i enjoy watching .. Cuz.. It's thrilling!!
The last horror movie i watched in cinema is The Eye 2. The sound effects are ultimately horrifying..!! Even though this may be scaring.. But i just dun take it as a matter.. I still can sleep well @ night.. Although my friends told me ghosts' stories.. i put that matter aside.. cuz i jus dun believe in ghost.. aNd believing it only make u frightened and cant slp @ night.. So. dun be silly believing in such fake stuffs(movie and ghost stories).. Oh yah.. Last but not least, sleep well.. Sweet dreams!

Darkness Falls(englishmovie) is pretty good too.
Darkness Fall? I thought that the movie came out ages ago? Anyway wasn't too sure. Never really watch the movie thou. But I think that I'd watch the trailer last year.
Btw, hollywood horror movies weren't that scary  If you guys want a movie that scares the guts out of you, try Japanese or Korean horror movies....hehe....

the eye is a really good movie. i think its a chinese/thai ghost movie. it has some pretty freaky moments.
according to mtv, the movie ppl are doing remakes of jap horror flicks for US viewing.
remember 'the ring' from the original 'ringu' well we're supposed to expect more of that stuff in the coming years.
but i most say asian horror movies r so much better. theres some good horror ones here but asian ones r my favorite.
not a movie but 'nitemare on elm street' was such a scary thing back in the days. watching it now its not that scary

I love horror movies...but i think Japan probably makes the scariest or the stupidest horror movies..lolz
They don't use gore and suddeness to scare the audience like most American scary movies do...rather they employ suspense and dramatic storylines...also i think what made THE Ring espeecially scary was the fact that it was a movie about video tape that can cause you to die if you watch it...while we're actually watching it on TV as well..especially the scene of Sadako climibing out of the TV...
I thought it was quite sad though how that guy died...I thought he and the main female character was going to get back together..I felt soo sad by the fact that he still died in the end. =(
Have anyone watched the Korena horror movie The Phone...or the Korean horror movie Nightmare??
They're both pretty...scary...

Japanese movies are all scary -_-
Even their action movies are scary, in a really weird way.
They're all too raw... they don't look cinematic at all. And most of them have to do with underage prostitutes and children killing each other, which only makes it worse X_X Scayr scary...

oh yea i watched japanes scary movie, it was called tha suicide club? neone watched it? it's really gory and it was scary in the beginning, den it had like rape in it.... den later i had to stop watchin cos it was so gross! only the begining was good, the end had like naked ppl doin whatever ionno... i cud barely watch it...
i like jappanes scary movies with out sex and tha gory stuff, mayb like tha ring... that was a good example
scarletwillow
08-04-2004, 06:33 PM
Yeah, I heard about that one from a few people X_X
A bunch of girls do a mass suicide and all...
The thing that scares me the most about Japanese cinema is that it's just so unprofessional. The actors don't feel like actors, and the camerawork makes everything look like a reality show.

does anyone kno of any good scary chinese movies?
i saw both 'the eye' and 'the eye 2'. the first was better. i dont kno of any other movies to watch though. unless i watch crouching tiger, hidden dragon. thats scary cause so many ppl think its good. its just ur regular fighting movie w/ the exception of clearer scenes n better flying.

Good Chinese horror? Try Double Vision. It's supposed to be pretty good.
China is just the wrong country for horror hehe ^_^

omg how sad.
dont dis china like that. they have plenty of excellent horror flicks.
theres the eye n the eye 2 n the er uh umm :? u win this round scarlet :-x but ill b back
there is plenty of horror comedy though. i just dont wat there called since i usually watch the ones that r translated into vietnamese. but then i just read the eng subtitles cause i can barely understand there talking.
so in essence im watching a chinese movie translated into vietnamese but w eng subtitles.
scarletwillow
08-05-2004, 03:28 AM
Are you Vietnamese?
But yeah, seriously... China is completely lacking in horror movies. Korea is the most well-rounded movie maker of Asia... Hong Kong is a close second, but only so because HK lacks the horror genre. Japan's movies are just weird, and Chinese cinema is limited to low-budget melodrama with the occasional communist propaganda film, which *rarely* attracts foreign audiences (though many of them are incredibly touching! ...the melodrama, that is).
Well, I guess HK and Korea are tied, because Korean movies lack specificity--HK has the triad genre, Japan has the messed-up-reality-movie genre, China has the melodrama genre, and... I guess, well, Korea has the... cheesy romance movie genre? OK HK ties there too :P

im chinese/vietnamese. even i dont even kno. im supposed to be more chinese than vietnamese. i kno ur thinkin im weird cause im sayin 'supposed to be' but o well wat can i do. most of my family n relatives speak vietnamese though. several speak both but theyre in san francisco. chinese was my 1st lang. viet was my 2nd. but i forgot all my chin cause none of my immediate family spoke chin so i lost it all n now have to re-learn it thru pimsleur. learning my chinese in the summer. nice.
but neways...wats w HK n the triad genre? i see a lot of movies w triads battling it out.
ive tried to watch viet horror flicks but theyre so bad. at least the ones ive seen from the viet rental store. cheap budgeted films w bad camera handling. cant afford any good effects so they have to stick a green flashlite in the face to make the person look possessed kind of thing.
scarletwillow
08-05-2004, 09:29 PM
Well, triad flicks are just native to HK, just like samurai flicks are native to Japan.
No one else has the authority to make them.
And hey, I haven't watched many triad flicks I didn't like, so I'm not complaining ^_^

its not wat i expected. there was a twist to the movie which got me wondering about the ppl living there. but i won't spoil nething if ppl havent seen it.
its not that scary though. the monster that terrorizes the village is really weird. its like a wolf/scarecrow/porcupine.

There's this japanese movie that's from a manga I think. I'm not sure what the official english name is but the direct translation for the name is "Swirl". It's a pretty good horror movie unlike alot of the rather lame ones out these days. Personally I've never really developed a taste for Honk Kong movie, they're so... not scary  Don't know why, but most of their costumes are either REALLY bad or the story just...makes no sense :worry:

Everyone I know that saw it was really disappointed.
M. Night S.'s movies are all based upon a sole revelation...
For that reason, I hate his movies.
They're good until the end.
Have you seen Signs?
I swear... that has the dumbest story I've ever heard.
The aliens are killed by water, yet they try to take over a planet that's 60% water on the surface and rains often? -_-
SimpleBlackHumor89
08-09-2004, 11:40 PM
haha im too scared to watch texas chainsaw!! i heard it's really gory n everyhting, with human flesh n stuff.. im not into gore..
i agree with scarletwillow
his movies are suspenseful n scary until the end... signs was a STUPID movie!! like WATER??? n there was only one alien!! not a whole group of em... they only killed one... the sixth sense was pretty scary though.. but the ending was stupid... all his movies have stupid endings...
that's weird cos my frends sed that village was good.. they sed it was deep n gets you thinking... a wolf/scarecrow/porqupine???????
Apollo
08-09-2004, 11:49 PM
Eh? I thought Sixth Sense was really good, even the ending. But then Signs, I really don't know waht to say, the story was bad, the characters were bad, and the ending was bad :worry:
Texas Chainsaw is only good if you watch it in the theatres or with volumes cranked up like crazy or it's not scary at all. And the images wasn't too bad, cause it's so dark you can hardly see half the things.
scarletwillow
08-09-2004, 11:51 PM
Signs was all about human interaction and the loss of hope.
In that sense, it was *perfect*.
But throw in the aliens, and you have a "WTF THIS IS SO STUPID."
I was pretty scared in some of the scenes (the cornfield, for instance)...
But by the end, when they splashed water on the alien, I just laughed really, really hard.

my chinese tutor, brought the chinese movie for us to watch " the eye" and it really freaked me out! we only watched the first 40 min cos we ran outa time.. but im already freaked out! the special effects are really good!
is it just me or do i find that scary movie with asians in there are more scary.. is it cos theyr'e just made better, and that american scary movies suck? cos there's some scary ones. but i think one of the reasons for me that asian scary movies are scarier, is cos the characters are asian, therefore they're a lil pale.. iono just something about the way they look, there's more terror

I've never seen the ring...i want to though...the japanese version. the only horror movies i've seen lately is...ju on.. and the eye...i don't watch alot b/c school in session. :-)
but the village i thought was good. its a nice little love story. but not scary. its an interesting story though when u watch it.
It wasn't meant to be scary in the first place that's why. It was more base on "what ifs" questions that doesn't have a definate answer to them.
The eye to me was pretty scary. The plot was fairly old and predictable but i think its just how the director set those situation up. Its a normal every day occurance (you go eat out, you're on the elevator, you're in your room) I think that's what scary about it. Who knows, a ghost could be standing next to you hahaha.
I haven't seen the Eye 2 though. One of my friend told me that it was lame, but that's her judgement. I did however watch the first scene where she was at the hospital. That was scary especially building on people's fear of the hospital (points at herself).
mad_doi
09-21-2004, 02:56 AM
'eye 2' isnt scary at all. it does give u a different way of thinking of death n rebirth though in the end when the new mother talks about her new son n past uncle.
i think the freakest part in the eye (not eye2) was when she was when she was writing caligraphy n the ghost totally flew at her. i was like holy sh*t.
the hospital scene in the 1st movie was way scarier than the 2nd though. the old lady moaning  shudders. that was scurry. n the lady was all up in her face. ahh.
all the commercials for 'the village' made it look like a horror flick though. yea theres still question about the village that i still dont kno. o well. the elders went a little overboard to keep the future kids safe n free from the evils of the city.

all the commercials for 'the village' made it look like a horror flick though. yea theres still question about the village that i still dont kno. o well. the elders went a little overboard to keep the future kids safe n free from the evils of the city.
he (the director) poses a question as to whether life would be better if what we know didn't exist and things reverted back to they once were, hence the elders trying to shy the youngs away from what the world is today. Imo, this movie is open for interpretations so its really up to your perception.
Anyways, have anyone seen "The forgetten?" (is it out yet? ) or does anyone know anything about it? It looks interesting. :excited:

Last night I went to watch a horror korean movie called "The ghost" It was scary! After the ring, I thought there's no more real scary movies in the industry anymore..and I din expect it to be quite scary.. The sound effects especially..i was shocked by the sound effects most of the time and of course the special effects..I think u guys should go and watch it too..
OK, this really isn't a 'scary' movie as such...it's the spoof. You guys know the Scary Movie trilogy? Haha, they are so funny! But I seriously got scared in #2 with the whole clown thing...clowns are evil!! They are sooo scary!
The scarest thing I watched was the Chuckie movie..."Child Play"...Man, I was only 5!!! I was soooo scared! I made mum throw away all my dolls for fear of them coming to life and killing me! haha

Actually this show was rather not scary to me. It was more a psycology thing. Umm.. Leslie's childhood ex girlfriend die. That is y he was always haunted by the ghost. Actually i think this show jus tell us that at time is ur subconsiousness, or ur conscience playing a trick on u.

Earlier in this thread people were talking about The Ring. I just saw it this weekend. What an awesome ending! Before it ends you think it's just a nice, neat, typical horror movie ending where her soul is finally at rest, but no, it's a freaky ending too. So good! But I was a little jumpy for a while after that...

I watched the American one. I have no mode of comparison because I haven't seen the Japense version, but man they do a really good job of effects in the American one. Putting everything through that bluish tint. And somehow there's something really wrong and creepy about horses going crazy, and stuff like that. It really messes with your head.

yeah, i pick the amer version over the jpn... the bluish tint makes it look more gloomy and eerie... the rainy scenes make it look more depressing also... and that "cursed" video is played longer in the amer version with more creepy scenes... you should check out the jpn version also.

Honestly, I'm not really sure why I watch horror movies. Maybe its the suspense. Everybody gets weird around me because I usually shout aloud or cover my eyes. Its good that I don't embarrass myself much in theaters. I try to catch my breath and concentrate on not shouting.
Before I watch horror movies at home to spare me the embarrassment. I usually jumped around and screamed my head off. (shrieky shout) As I grew older, thank God, I learned to control myself... I hope...

did anyone watch "saw" it looked really gross, its' about a psychotic murdere who forces his victims to cut off their own arm or leg to escape. very bizzare
Dawn of the Dead was really gross especially the part where the arms cut off and you can see everything.. it looks real.. even the way the arms come off. :S

The English title for it is "One Missed Call", Japanese title is "Chakushin Ari", it's not very scary but i really like the ending to it that makes you think what really happen at the end. I was reading from a review site and the comments there and they came out with all sorts of different ending. Interesting. By the way, "Chakushin Ari 2" is gonna be out at February next year so maybe we will really know what happen if it continues from Part 1. Here are the official sites for it.

Some of the horror movies are:
1.The Ring
2.Excorsist
3.Darkness Fall
4.Dawn of the Dead
5.Resident Evil
Ok don't know anymore lol :bleh:. All of them are old already, but they are still good to watch :wink2:.

It's damn scary to me and the scene is still playin in my mind since that day when i sleep or the electric shut down in my house...i'll scream like hell...! During that night after watching the movie...i slept 3 days 3nights in my living room and always be alert if heard any sounds...! Unbelievable yea ? Actually i don wanna watch, but i always get curious bout the horror movies...so i went to watch with my friends ! It was the first and last time i watch horror movies...and i'll never watch again !!
