Is it possible to have a 'secret' thread?

i just wanted to ask 2 questions..

1) Is it possible to have some threads like voting threads where no guests and members with less than a certain number of posts can view? This is to prevent other people from taking information from here.. like voting stuffs where voting websites we Jay fans have discovered may be copied and paste in other singers' forums.. i'd noticed one member here who is actually other singers' fan. But im sure he's not a Jay fan. I hope there will be a place like a thread here for members who wanted to share things only within Jay fans and not where other guests also can see.. Maybe only members with 10 posts(must be jay-related ones) or above and view and discuss there. Then before they reach the 10 posts, they cannot see this thread totally..? Then other members who have something to be kept 'confidential' where they wanted to share it with Jay fans only, they can post it there? Or is it too troublesome to do such things? :tongue:

2) can i know how a member can be banned from here besides violating rules like leeching? Can inactive be a reason to ban them? Because i'd seen one member disappearing from the members list, so i wonder what's the reason..

LOL, hamtaro, that will certainly be a great idea! :D but i think 10 posts as the limit is too little? in order to protect and keep all the fast methods to vote. hahas, but it sure doesn't sound simple to do something like that.

10 posts is too little i think... but some people dont like to post.. so the 10 posts MUST be all of Jay-related posts.. because i noticed that some members only post at either 'other artistes' forum or 'general' forums.. this may not mean they are Jay fans.. ya.. i bring this up because i hope some discussions which concerned Jay's charts and awards will be kept within us only.. so other people cannot be at advantage to this.. where they just need to copy us while we are the ones who discovered some voting thingys and voting ways..
yup.. i also think it is not simple to do that.. but even guests are able to see our threads like 'different countries' thread.. in other forums, in order to view their threads, we need to be members..
so maybe we can make only Jay news and discussions be viewed by guests?

As for the member dissapearance, i suppose he/she is too inactive so the admin/mod had deleted him/her off...
The post limits should be at least 50...ha3(happy posting)
I am sure JCNET have more than enough threads for them to have 50 posts...no excuses!!!
At first when i was a newbie, i find it so hard to reach 10 posts but as the liking for Jay deepens...i reached more than 50 posts!!!:excited:

On whether it is possible, of course it is possible. We already have many different "layers" of membership as it is today (e.g our anti leech functions), and different parts of the forums are exposed to different people. So technically it's not an issue. Now lets talk about whether we need this. Should we create more "layers of segregation"?

Here's my point of view:

1) Minimal existance of 100% non-Jay fans
What are the chances that a person who doesn't know anything about Jay surf in here and actually reads everything. I think most visitors will have a least some vague liking for Jay and/or his music. Yes we are a Jay forum, for we've never actually said only Jay fans can enter. We are an open discussion forum, so we do welcome everyone who wants to come here and talk about Jay, get to know Jay, read about Jay etc... (well, perhaps with exceptions to those who slime Jay). For as much as possible, we want members to access as many different parts of the forums as possible for interaction.

How many non Jay fans will actually take a look at a "VOTE FOR JAY" thread? We don't go around setting up new fences because of your suspicion that someone is stealing voting links? At least prove it to us that this is actually happening.

2) Forum members with other "favourite artistes"
Its the truth that a good number of us do not have our worlds evolve around Jay and Jay alone. We listen to, and appreciate different forms of music, and we do like other artistes. Which is why we have a very vibrant "
Artists & Celebrities" forum. It is the essence of our respect for the preferences of our members, and it IS what makes JCnet so vibrant. When we run out of things to say about Jay, there's always someoen else we can choose to talke about. It keeps the members coming back.
Some of us have a few preferred celebrities, and we want to talk about them with like minded people, this is a platform.

3) There are Jay fans who don't talk about Jay 24/7
I am one of them. The number of posts I've made in the Jay discussion forums in the last 10 days is next to zero. I love Jay, anyone who knows me can attest to that. I just don't happen to be posting about how Jay can become my boyfriend/brother/relative, or how he will pop up at my door. I prefer to be at the general forums, socialising threads etc. I don't think that makes me any less of a Jay lover than you are.
The thing is, I don't think I am alone. Are you discriminating against my "kind"?

4) Can you explain to me why a fan of another artiste, without any liking for Jay, will come and surf our forums, search through the threads.... to find a link to vote?
Isn't it easier to google (or use some major search engine)? Is it worth the trouble. Besides, most reputable awards/voting sites have publicity going on. How can we, just by making 1 thread secret, prevent other celebs' fans from finding out about the voting?
We are not the only ones capable of finding out where the votings places are.

5) How many of you will be frequenting a subforum like that?
Now, we don't need a sub forum for show. If there are few people using it, then there's no point of it's existence. Perhaps you need more like minded people to make yourself heard.

6) Who's going to moderate it? Will we have a intelligible discussions in that forum at all?
Having another sub forum adds extra work for the mods no doubts about that.
Plus I forsee a forum full of pointless post like
"Oh vote for Jay now, he's lagging by 1%",
"Please vote quickly XXX is catching up",
"Are you all voting? Why isn't the votes going up?"
"We need Jay to win, vote now!"
It defies all the forum rules that we have about not posting crap. We really don't need a forum that is fertile grounds for noobish/rule breaking behaviors.


That's my viewpoint, you can dispute it.

This is something I can answer...
When a member is banned, their profile will have the "banned" tag. We usually keep banned profiles so that the server has a record of sort, and this person cannot re-register.

We do not ban people for inactivity, but we do clear out members who are inactive over long periods of time, and have very very few posts to their names. (eg. 0 post + no activity for 6 months etc depending when we do our clear outs.). Unlike banned members, these members who are removed for inactivity can re-register once they decide they want to come around our forums again.

Sometimes there are some technical faults when generating the members list so some names may not turn up.

Bottom line though, is it really all that important that Jay wins ANOTHER online poll? So what if he loses the MTV poll for "Favorite gap toothed grandma sweater wearing male artist" or some other arbitrary award. Give other artists a chance. The boy can't win everything. Maybe it'll teach him about humility and not to be so cocky about his musical talents.
