Yeh Hwei-Mei
Jay Chou [SONY]
Mado-R&B icon Jay Chou looks set to conquer the music scene again with his much-awaited 4th release, named after his mother as an act of filial piety. From hip-hop to slow rock and R&B, Jay's unique style is still evident here. The title track (referring to yi fu zhi ming AKA in the name of the father) has an italian operatic feel to it. Although it sounds eerie at times (a digitally created female voice shrieks repeatly in the background), the music and arrangement is certianly creative and inspiring.
It sounds a little like 'Prague square' actually, a song Jay wrote for Jolin Tsai. Other interesting tracks include 'Coward', featuring a little girl rapping, 'Class 3B' with unsual ping-pong sounds in the background and 'Terraced Fields', an interesting mix of Chinese tribal music and western rap. Ballad fans, check out 'Sunny Day' and 'You Heard(you can hear it)'. a gem of an album. The only downside is we still can't make out the lyrics, thanks to his infamous mumbling.
*i agree with u guys by saying that this review is not informative enough... hmmm...i agree with you minmin.. why is the booklet there for.. hehe...
