Have anyone lucky enough to get a 360 already? or are you waiting till the price drop(it's about 710 to 1500 atm) or for the ps3 release? i'm going to wait till the ps3 is released and compare the 2 system b4 getting it. as of right now, i'm just goin to play my friend 360 at their house. i still couldn't believe some of the 360 out there cost as high as $1500 on ebay.

so what's exactly special about the x360? i hear everybody talking about it.. but i dont really see what's great about it. [btw, i hardly know anything about video gaming stuff, so enlighten me (= ]

its what they call a 'next generation' video gaming console.

as for whats so special about it? its new.

its a powerful machine capable of very pretty visuals. it has a hard drive. u can use it to play games online against other people who have an x360. the controllers are wireless therefore u don't have to sit so close to the TV and hunch back...

i wouldn't buy one so fast... never buy the new things so fast... wait afew months at least... let the price drop and also see what new games come out for it...

The xbox 360 fails at three things:

1) No good games ~ besides Halo and a few others, there are almost no good games that are to be released for the xbox. In fact, many die-hard xbox game-creation companies have switched to producing solely for the ps3.

2) Unreliable ~ there have been a rash of consoles that either fail their warrenty (break down extremely quickly), or don't even work at all. This is due to xbox's rush to release the 360 ahead of the ps3. My friend's xbox 360 broke down within 2 days of purchase. Yeah ~ they suck.

3) High cost. For one reason or another, they're pretty damn expensive.

For all these reasons, and personal preference, I'M WAITING FOR THE PS3

nope! i don't even know anyone who has gotten it yet. everyone's been saying that they'll wait for it.

i heard the graphics on the xbox360 are awesome...but then again...ps3 hasn't come out yet heheh. argh! i played the ffVII demo. and OMG, IT'S FREAKIN CRAZY.

if those are your reasons for waiting for the PS3 then you might be disappointed by points 2 and 3 as well because as history shows, the PS2 also had alot of defaults when initially released and not to mention HIGH cost as well

as new batches are produced and the bugs and defaults tweaked out, the system will become more reliable. also the inital price always starts high as Microsoft (and Sony) will try to recoup as much cost as they can but in order to get bigger market share, the price of the machine will drop.

as for crappy games well.... its only the initial launch titles... they never show off the machine's true potential but i agree that alot of the release titles for the x360, based on reviews, are below par so...can't say much there... anyway it has always been my firm belief that no matter how crappy the hardware, its the software that drives a console.

just look at the ps2 vs xbox vs gamecube. the ps2 was the most inferior in the hardware department but sold the most consoles and had/has the most software and developer support

the ps3 will be no different. with games like MGS4, RE5, FF13, DMC3, Warhawk, Killzone PS3 etc etc

so yeah... it is wise to wait for the PS3... but only because the games will be better

ack i woke up at got to a store 5 hours before it opened!! i didn't get one though!! noooo!! but i was sooooooooo close!! and now it takes forever to try to get one cause idk when the shipments are coming in!! ACK!!! and ps3 mann oh mann i think my brother is gonna tent out over night for it!

i'll never understand why people want to line up and camp out and wait for the release of a console....

its like being the first one to jump into a lake that might be full of sharks...

i'll wait afew months for the price of the PS3 to go down, wait for more games to be released and read reviews online to determine whether the machine is worth the hype.

hmm.. from what i hear, it doesnt seem like anything too special. its just like when the PSP came out, everyone was trying to get their hands on one. and now, its not really anything special. from sagara's explanation of the xbox.. hrm.. its nothing i would find much interest in. but then again, i'm not much of a gamer =P now what's this about the PS3? how is it better/worse/the same compared the xbox? i still have my brothers' old PS1 stored in my entertainment cabinet with all their games (=

sagara0510

in terms of hardware for the PS3 compared to the x360 i don't know... i've read that the x360 is more powerful hardware wise but i'm confident the PS3 will have suprerior software support and thats what makes the difference at the end of the day...

so if u ask me what about the PS3 and is it better/worse than the x360? i'd say i don't know yet... but having seen the lineup of games for the PS3 and what the x360 has atm... i'd say i personally would enjoy having a PS3 much more than an x360....

but at the end of the day it all boils down to personal preference...

PS3 specs have not been released.
But actually, PS3 is speculated to have superior hardware (including Blu-Ray support).

Here's some good reasons why PS3 > XB360.

PS3: HDTV support for higher resolutions. XB360 lacks it.
PS3: Blu-Ray (40gb) high density media support. XB360's original plans for HD-DVD support fell apart, so they're still using DVD-9 (9 gb). This will make a huge difference as games require more and more space. Oh yeah, Blu-Ray's loading speed will likely be lightning fast.
PS3: Nearly full backwards compatibility. XBox360 can only play a handful of old games. And no, Halo 1/2 is not better than the entire PS1 and PS2 library.
PS3: Hardware connectivity. USB, firewire, infrared... just about everything you can imagine. PS3 will connect to it.
PS3: Sony. XBox360: Not Sony.

yeah Blu-Ray... will be interesting to see its capabilities and to see how long it takes dodgy asians to crack it

i guess u and i have read conflicting articles because i read rumours that the x360 is superior in specs... but i never pay too much attention to specs anyway...

additionally i heard the x360 seriously scratches game discs as well as overheats alot as well as freezing... altho i'm sure overheating and freezing/hanging go hand in hand...

Yes, the power supply overheats, and there have been reports of the drive damaging games (sucks... games cost $60).

The comment on Asian pirates made me lawl.

Add to that analysts, even after XB360's launch, are STILL showing PS3 in a name-recognition lead... GGNORE M$.

Anyways, Nintendo is smart this round. They're going for something that won't really compete with PS3 and XB360. I love the big N.

man, already talking about the xbox 3?

i'm still fiddling with my gameboy color and playstation 1...
ps2, psp, ps3, xbox all don't have :(

anyway i think computers can pretty much be used for everything... but of course there are somethings that the xbox/ps3 has that the computer can't have.. and its probably more fun to play on a large screen television, where surprising, the graphics are better, at least my dad says so, rather on a puny 17" monitor....

man, the last final fantasy i played was the FF9, kinda changed my life totally, yeah! after playing ff7,8 ,9 i really wanted to buy a ps2 to play FFX and FFXI, but when it was so expensive, what could u do? anyway my television isn't a liquid crystal display nor a plasma television, it is simply one of those old, black coloured 30" bent screen displays... sony brand... don't even think it'll have the ports to fit in the xbox 360 man

scarletwillow
12-06-2005, 08:25 AM
FFX starts out having the coolest story ever; the pre-final battle story is like... WTF... then the post-final-battle ending makes you cry, then the FINAL ending is like... OMG!!!! YES!!!

Then FFX2 fucks it all up.

But anyways, I like to stay a generation behind. I didn't get a PS2 until recently. It's good to wait for the system that will let you pirate games :O

sagara0510
12-06-2005, 08:32 AM
FFX is the bestest.... i cried at the end... actually i cried in all the FF games i've played (8,9,10) but yeah X-2... sucked...

after watching FF7:AC i wish that Square Enix will remake FF7 but it doens't appear so...

my fren recently d/led a playable demo of FF12... the battle system is different.. there's no more 'shattered glass' effect... its all pretty much real time now but still with an ATB.. hard to explain...

visually it looks very similar to FFX and X-2 tho... prob the limitations of the PS2 hardware.

According to GamerTV, Final Fantasy series are voted by gamers as the most emotionally involved video game. Never in my whole gaming life I cried as much as I cried to FFX (I cried in FFVII once during Aeris' death - I replayed the bit over and over again, it's so significant history in gaming). Kudos for Nobuo Uematsu's music scores. It amplifies my sense of longing. It's just so...I cried.

WTF. We are in Xbox 360 world. :glug: It's kinda sleek, I might claim that the design is borrowed from iPod. It's attractive, but no exclusive 'must-have-or-else-your-fingers-crying-for-it' games on the platform; market are for PS3. I will buy X360 if I have extra money.

X360 does have great online features and media capabilities. But PS3's specs are more powerful on paper. It has lots of potentials that can be dug out by the developers (even, I heard developers are afraid to code for it since it's a entirely new hardware architectures). From Cell Processors to BlueRay DVD. PS3? True next generation.

12-07-2005, 01:36 AM
Nobuo Uematsu is a genius.. when i first heard Eyes on Me sung by Faye Wong i was in tears... FF8 was the first FF i played and the music just... melted my heart and i became a sobbing blubbering idiot infront of the tv.... my dad would walk in and shake his head saying... wat the hell is wrong with u? just because your losing doesn't mean u have to cry!....

FF series does indeed have great instrumentals. My favorite music is from FF6 (Celes, Terra theme) and from FFX (People of the North Pole, Kimahri's clan's music).

Some random FF knowledge:
Zanarkand is a play on Samarkand, the mystical "city of science".

Funny that in Japan, the Dragon Quest series is actually far more popular (it's their number 1 selling game) than FF.

yeah and every since Enix took over Square, they've tried to market the DQ series internationally with only limited success... i personally haven't played any DQ games and i've actually given up on all RPG's as i deem them to be inferior to FF...

scarletwillow
12-07-2005, 08:34 AM
1up.com ran a story on DQ's popularity in Japan a few days ago.
They said even some words from DQ (hoimi, the healing spell, for example) are now adapted into Japanese vernacular as common household words.

Odium: De_Vangelis
12-08-2005, 04:47 AM
I think DQ is like the father of traditional Japanese RPG, that's why Japanese people adore it like no other. I couldn't see how DQ can be so adored though...I had played DQ7 on PlayStation, and I don't like the battle system (The battle system is entirely like FPS genre - a slash from enemy is just represented by a shaking red screen and a slash from us is represented by a trembling enemy <.<"). There's no visual excitement in the heat of battles; and we are supposedly to spend lots of time in battles.

But I see DQ8 is very colorful and vibrant. They modify the battle system a bit, still like FPS but now when we commence a command, they allow you to see the from 3rd person view (like FF). Which is a huge relief for me. Haven't played it though.

Oh, Btw, It's one of my wishes to go and see the live orchestral concert of Uematsu's Final Fantasy compositions. in US and Japan, they have this 'Dear Friends - Music from Final Fantasy' Concert. I want to go there, sit down, listen it live, have a tissue and a good cry.

Do you live in Sydney? There was one in Sydney in 2004, called A Night of Fantasia 2004 (http://www.infinity8lue.com/events/anightinfantasia04/), featuring compositions from Uematsu and Hayao Miyazaki's animations.

And yes! I searched on the net, there's this called Play! - Video Game Symphony (http://www.play-symphony.com/) World Concert. And, and, and, they are coming to Ozie and NZ (http://www.ausgamers.com/?id=2383748)!!!

i can hardly believe it! they're really going to come here? but its not a full Final Fantasy concert... i wonder how many FF songs will be played... i hope alot. MGS music too!!! awesome!

Yea!!! It's SOOOOOOOO Awesome, isn't it?

Hmm...I'm kinda sad that it's not a exclusively FF but it's kinda good too, having a chance to hear the ever-heart-racing MGS scores and Yasunori Mitsuda's Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Xenosaga!!!! OMG!!! *excited*

I'm definitely coming. Have to start huge saving from now...for PS3 and this world concert.

(But I still crave to hear an exclusive FF concert, actually.)

sagara0510
12-08-2005, 06:25 AM
yeah i would much prefer an exclusive FF concert over this but i'll take whatever it is i can get... and the MGS theme score is really fantastic too

btw any chance of gettin a d/l of the FF concert online or a dvd or something??

Odium: De_Vangelis

Hmm...There was a CD release of Final Fantasy Live 2002 Concert in Japan (http://www.altpop.com/stc/reviews/ff20020220.htm), called 2002.02.20. It's kinda old but it's a full 2-CD featuring fans' favourite tracks (from One Winged Angel to Suteki Da Ne). Even...MC parts got recorded too. o_O

And the Los Angeles concert of "More Friends music from FINAL FANTASY" (http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q4-2005/112305a.html) will be released in Japan on February 15, 2006. "More Friends" is the follow-up to the first North America concert of "Dear Friends".

But I heard the Dear Friends is the one that outstandingly superb. And sadly no recordings. ._.

Anyway, I don't know any download center for it...I'll try to find one. Maybe if you find one someday...Can you tell me, too? ^^

Asians tend to be very supportive of Asian brands.
Japan especially.

That's why XB360 only sold 27% or so of its Japanese stock.

sagara0510
12-16-2005, 07:31 AM
so it had nothing to do with the fact that the majority of the games on the xbox are either FPS, sports or racing games?

i think its pretty clear the kind of audience targeted by Microsoft was more toward the western audience.

scarletwillow
12-16-2005, 07:34 AM
Well, there's lots of factors. Both game type and company loyalty.
Frankly, the Japanese just don't care about M$. They like Sony and Nintendo.

sagara0510
12-16-2005, 07:49 AM
i'll agree that the only reason why Nintendo is still alive is because of Japanese loyalty and support

Sony however is a multinationally recognised company and will kick M$'s butt regardless of geography because... in my opinion anyway... the games are better and there's far more selection and variation on the Sony machines....

Odium: De_Vangelis
12-17-2005, 12:28 AM
X-box still have some support from Japanese developers...Something like Team Ninja's 'Death or Alive' series and 'Ninja Gaiden' are well-developed games. Plus, in X360, Hironobo Sakaguchi's (FF father) studio is making 2 RPG games for X360. But yes, Sony has the market and developers' trusts. That's something Sony mustn't lose for whatever cost (if MGS & FF series are developed for Xbox...gosh...I don't know...it's...a big loss for sony and a cry of NOOOOOOOO from me T_T)

Nintendo...I think they can compete because they are bunch of innovators, something M$ and Sony can't risk of doing. They are good at redefining gaming experience. And they have the ever legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, which Japanese adore so much like a semi-demigod. I think he is very innovative, can design for many genre...and do it very well. From RPG (Zelda), to adventure (Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong), to FPS (Metroid Prime), and even virtual life (Animal Crossing).

I really wonder how the new controller would turn out....and how Shigeru Miyamoto would use it to create more innovative games. Nintendo and Miyamoto is like left brain and a right brain. Very in tune.

edit: Oh ya, did you know that FF7 was meant to be released on Nintendo 64? Squaresoft migrated to Sony at the last minute since Nintendo insisted to have a cartridge for storage. If it didn't turn out that way, gaming world would be a different one indeed.

scarletwillow
12-17-2005, 02:16 AM
Yeah, I'm surprised Team Ninja supports MS so much when DOA is so oooobviously catered to the fanservice Japanese crowd.

And Ninja Gaiden is just... wow.

Yeah, Sony and Nintendo and Phillips were all cohorts on the next gen thing for a long time developing Nintendo's next gen machine. Then they had a dispute; Sony and Phillips walked out. Sony went on to continue the project themselves and make the PS. Phillips made the CD-i (failed) and even walked away with Nintendo character licenses and made several shitty games starring Link and Mario (Hotel Mario, lol). Nintendo went on to make the most disastrous choice of all gaming history, to continue with cartridges. Oh well =P

In addition, Square had a pretty bad dispute with Nintendo, and vowed never to develop for them until recently.

Odium: De_Vangelis
12-18-2005, 11:48 AM
Philips' CD-i? Never heard of it. :glug: I guess that shows how unpopular the console was.

I know that Panasonic has a console called 3DO. And my friend bought it straight after he bought his PS a month before (I even think that the price was staggeringly higher than PS). He didn't know that it was such a waste of money. <.<

Sony with its PlayStation success...it was almost like a pure luck.

sagara0510
12-18-2005, 11:53 AM
hahhahaa i've got a Panasonic 3DO!! it was alot of fun at the time tho... while every1 was still playing 2d Sonic and Mario, i had games like Road Rash 3DO, Space Hulk, Shockwave etc etc to play... granted once the PSX came out, the 3DO got killed off... mainly because the 3DO was a hardware spec that manufacturers like Panasonic, Goldwave, Creative and Sanyo bought and then had rights to produce so it was up to the individual manufacturer to advertise and promote (to which the hardly ever did - the 3DO was never even officially released here in Australia) so its demise is not surprising....

speaking of dead consoles... Atari Jaguar anyone??

Odium: De_Vangelis

I don't have Atari Jaguar...But I still have the Original Game Boy under my bed!! Yep, still working perfectly...And I still play those old magical 15-in-1 cartridges once in a while.

My dad bought it for me around 1995-1996. Oh...wait...I don't realize that it is already 10 years old. ._.

She is one of my true portable companions indeed. *touched* ;_;

I started playing games pretty early, and I can't bear to dump my old consoles. So I still have my original Game Boy, SNES and Sega Saturn - and some of the cartridges! I doubt they can work anymore though.

Frankly I'm not an XBox fan, I have the original, but I'm not intending to get the 360. I don't really like the range of games available for the XBox, and I don't like the design either; too large and chunky. I'm happy with my PS1, PS2 and PSP (yes I'm big on Sony products ).

Actually my fave console of all time is the PS1. Best range of games, best games, great design, and the portable PS1's even better. It just totally revolutionised the gaming industry. The SNES comes a very very close second. Who can forget FFVI and Chrono Trigger and the Breath of Fire series on it?

Wait to see whether PSP or DS is better hacked (so you can play ROMS, etc).

N-Gage actually became a decent purchase after hackers broke the security and got all sorts of ROMs on there.

Bill Gates wants development of DRM technology (if you surf porn sites, you will likely know what DRM is; or, if you've bought stuff off the I-Tunes store) to stop Chinese pirates though. F that >:O

I need to reinstall Windows. I found an install disc called Windows XP Pro w/ SP2 "End User Edition", with all these neat little apps and addons (USEFUL addons) pre-installed, on BT.

XB360 is better than I thought it would be, initially. The backwards compatibility list is better than what I hoped it to be, as a Sony fanboy. But good news is still that the backwards compatibility list for the Japanese version of the console sucks ass. Not even the DOA series is supported. ROFL.

despite all the self control i could muster, i have pre-ordered myself an x360

its not yet been released here in Australia (March 2nd) but they are accepting pre-orders already...

i walked into the EB near my house and saw a whole self dedicated to x360... peeked at some of the games and thought... hmmm not bad... doa4.. condemned... ghost recon... decent line up

and they're letting u trade in ur ps2/xbox/gc and ur old games so u get some discount off the x360

so i thought what the hell.. out with the old and in with the new... so i'll be trading in my ps2 and my old gc games that i no longer play

yes yes b4 u say to me 'wtf are u crazy?!?! ps2 rocks!'... i am well aware that the ps2 rocks... thats why i am not giving up my ps2 games. i want to keep them so i can play em on my ps3 when it finally comes out. >.<

EDIT: hahahha just read the news... its been delayed a further 3 weeks. official release for Aus/NZ is March 23rd

thankfully i'm not in a position where i can get both machines. i'd really hate to have to choose btwn them as i'd probably choose the ps3 too despite all the rumours about the ps3 being almost twice as expensive as the x360 on release and how some developers are finding the ps3 architecture too complex to work with compared to the 360..

omg i feel like a propaganda machine >.<

Nope, I am thinking of getting one. My friend told me to wait for PS3. He told me that PS3 cannot play Xbox games and neither can it happen if its another way round.

I don't want to wait. Technology is hard to catch up with. All I want to do is to have some fun.
