Been listening to lots of Canto music for the previous 2 years and was really impressed with hacken Lee, who has already been ard for a lont time but only started coming to the fore in the past 2 years. He does have a great voice and is a great composer as well. Was really impressed with his joint concert with Alan Tam. Just think that some fo the songs by HK singers like Hacken nad Alan are really meaningful.

Anyone in the forum listens to him?

Yup...hes the only 'modern' singer my dad will listen to. I personally think hes really good too. And i have the concert with Alan Tam. They both have many classics, many of which my dad tells me i used to know the lyrics of perfectly! :D

Hes probably one of few artistes who seems to have improved during what i call the americanisation of the HK industry. But I never knew he composed too. :? His actings ok as well...anyone else seen him act?

yup. He does compose and writes some of his songs. Thinks he is a pretty talented singer, always striving to do really well. He does owe alot to Alan Tam who is a real gentleman. He was always trying to push the limelight to Hacken in a bit to boost Hacken's popularity.

Hacken did act in the TVB series, Legal Engagement 2 years back. The show had a really good plot and though Hacken was pretty cool in the show. He had great chemistry with Kenix Kwok in that show. Definitely 1 show to recommend those who have not seen it.

YES!! i listen to hacken lee quite a bit. his voice is awesome. i love a lot of his old songs and never grow tired of listening to them. i especially like his cover of danny chan's "wait" in his concert. sounded sooo good! i've only heard a couple of new tracks from him though. haven't kept up too much with the latest asian pop scene besides jay. heehee... anyway, he went to the same high school as my brother while we were still in HK though my bro didn't know him personally since hacken was several years older. i think he used to be in the school choir or something. little did they know back then that he was gonna be a star one day! :)

i like hacken too, he has a really good voice for a man.. he was voted for the most popular male singer for 2002! and i have to TOTALLY agree with that, i like his song called "Tall Girls", it sounds really good when he sings it, rather than GiGi..

Which hair style do you guys like of him best? because i don't like his blonde look, makes him looks kind of old..

yeah i like his voice! i have been to his concerts twice - one of them was together with alan tam!
i don't like his blonde look either...it doesn't suit him!
apart from singing, i like watching him being a football match host! he's very funny! haha!!!

Thinks Hacken looks better in his hairstyle for his personal concert in 2002, the one where his hair was done slightly grey. Thought that was pretty cool.

Envy those who has been to the concert he had with Alan Tam. My mum and i are both fans of Alan n Hacken and it will be great if they were to have a joint concert over here in Singapore.

Totally agrees that he does have a brilliant voice and he sings with so much emotions. Its really nice to hear him sing live.

Hacken owes a lot to Gigi who wrote Tall Girl...his version was a lot more successful than hers.

Ive seen Legal Entanglement...Hacken is also in another series called 'Brothers of Temple Street' (or similar :? ) with Michelle Yip and Edmond Leung. Did anyone see the musical special where they continued the story of Legal Entanglement for an hour or so? It also had Cecilia in it.

hacken's version of "tall girl" is much better than gigi's.
i saw them singing this song together @ RTHK Awards early this year,
when gigi sang...

Yes, this guy is a great singer. I find it didn't make sense that he never really got extremely popular back ages ago, and instead, 'artists' like aaron kwok and leon lai.... got so popular. I'm glad that hacken has become very popular now. haha, i saw him just over a month ago in vancouver... he sang "i won't sing" and i was like... it was AWESOME.

Gigi wrote a song for Hacken?? I'm impressed :? I never thought of her as much of a songwriter..

Hacken has this wonderful song that is an absolute favourite of mine, called 情牢, roughly translated into Prison of Love. Whenever I go KTV with more accomplished male singers, I'll make them sing this song, just to hear if they can hit the high notes the way Hacken can (It feels really weird to call him Hacken, I prefer Lee Ke Qin). Here's a quick translation:

情牢
Prison of Love
曲:陳富榮 | 詞:易家揚 | 編:Ricky Ho

你說會永遠想念我 我知道愛情已經死掉
You said I'll be in your thoughts, always
I know that love has already died

你把自由還給了我 我卻無力可逃
You gave my freedom back to me
But I lack strength to escape

分分秒秒都想起 你對我的好
Every minute thinking only of
How you've been good to me

* 我想要一帖相思的解藥 被回憶關起來教人受不了
I want a dose of antidote for rememberance
So tormented by memories, its hard to bear

你宣判我的無期徒刑 孤單是我的背號
The indefinite imprisonment that you sentenced me to
I can only abide by my loneliness

我在漆黑的夜幢裡 看著心被愛焚燒
In the bleak night
I can only watch as my heart is razed by the flames of love

# 你給我一個愛的監牢 用思念作一副手銬
You imprisoned me in the prison of love
With longing for the past as a pair of handcuffs

我號啕大哭 我頹廢的笑 外面有沒有人聽得到
Does anybody hear
My cries of despair
My wry smiles of lost hope

我知道愛是一個監牢 可是我不能不往裡面跳
I've known from the start that to fall in love is an imprisonment
But I can't help but plunge myself into it
吹寂寞的風 守時間的孤島
Facing the lonely winds
Waiting for time to pass

心睡在冰雪裡 而明天只是個問號
My heart cold and bereft
While tomorrow holds only uncertainty

i'm old school because i can remember when i first saw hacken in hktvb series called 'summer of 88' which he starred with other teenagers-how they spent their summer after graduating high school-him pursuing his music entrance exams and first love-saw him playing the piano too. he definitely got a great voice and always wondered why he never hit it big until now. probably because he wasn't as handsome as the others. for a while, i would beg my elders to buy his album, but that dwindled off in the nineties. anyways, i haven't followed his latest string of hits. maybe i will check him out again. yes, blonde hair does not work for him; makes him look old.

wah.. cant believe some many ppl appreciate hacken's voice lor~~!!!! i thought i was the only one who appreciated a star from the 80's lor.... but neway.. i love his voice.. if i might say.. he is one of the few ppl who can actually sing in the hk music industry lor....... (hey.. i have nothing against hk music.. i breathe and live hk.. i listen to only hk music and i love it so dont say i am biased!) but yeah... i didnt think his concert with alan tam was that good... but i really prefer his slow songs though.. his fast ones such as the duet he sings with alan i cant really stand

Ever since Everlast, Hacken's cd's have drastically degraded in quality. I like his singing, but honestly they should spend more time producing songs that stand out, rather than just pumping out whatever works... getting too "kau kei"

Hey... I didn't even realize this thread existed.

Anyhow, Hacken's songs back in the early 90s were awesome. I was a big fan of his then. I still have all his albums from the early 90s too. He wrote a lot of lyrics for his songs, didn't he?

He has an awesome voice. It really stands out from the others. Too bad his songs don't stand out anymore.

anybody watch his show "Minutes to Fame" (aka, That Cruel Bellring")?

tinlunlau - I do! That show is hilarious...I can't get enough of it. Hacken isn't mean enough on it, though.

quadshock - I agree with you. I used to like Hacken Lee a lot in the 90's (even though I was a kid, haha, I still remember his songs) and they were amazing. Now...it's just...not that they're bad or anything, but they've degraded in quality like you said.

haha, I went to his concert in LV with Allen Tam or something. They were pretty hilarious. I wonder why Hacken wasn't famous before... He has been in the business for 10 years.. uh more or less. He has not become popular until recent years. He's pretty amazing.. I heard his wife or gf is a hk pagent that received a crown made straightly out of diamonds worth over milliosn O_O
