yeah, i like westlife in terms of boybands since their vocals are pretty strong and they have good songs. i have a couple of their CDs. haven't heard too much about them recently or their latest tracks. i have a friend in ireland who went to their concert a little while ago and had an awesome time. :) and yeah, the 'flying without wings' duet version with boa was pretty good. i guess that helped to boost her name in the european music circle.

Why the sweatdrop? :p I liked them when they first came out, because I liked their songs. Flying Without Wings is my favourite song from them (Mark looks gorgeous in the vid), I don't know if I would wanna listen to the version with BoA. I agree that their recent singles are not as good. I think there's one called Queen of My Heart, it's excruciatingly slow.

Westlife are currently on holidays, but they'll get back to work tomorrow! Haha!
They'll be on the telly (UK) everyday cos they will promote their new single "Hey Whatever"...

Hmm..."Flying Without Wings" is the "trademark song" of Westlife. Hehe! Shane said that...

but now i'm not big fan anymore
but my fave's in Westlife is Nicky

i have all their albums and buy some of their singles sometimes

My friends went to their recent concert, they come up north very often.

But i still prefer there old songs, and the first album is my favourite. Havent heard the new one yet...

And my favourite out of them used to be Shane, cos he had the best voice. I just dont like it when they start dancing! :oops:

From memory..what they usually do for ballads is sit on stools for the first half and then during the last repeat of the chorus or whatever, stand up, walk to the front of the stage and sway!

But for the more upbeat ones, they have cheesy dance routines that look funny cos people arent used to seeing westlife dance! Like for uptown girl, they were doing funny things with the mic stands!

wowwy! another new album? would be cool to hear some new tracks. i'm kinda stuped why these guys don't seem to be as big here in canada though. we had the backstreet boys and 'n sync craze along with some other boybands... but not so much westlife. :? and i definitely think the westlife boys have the voices to make it big here. it's just kinda weird... ah well. i like a lot of their older songs like "flying without wings", "if i let you go", "my love", and "soledad". i also loved the duet with mariah, "against all odds". the lyrics were so sad. :sad:

Something i found in the paper...

What is it with Westlife and fire alarms? Af having to flee in their underpants froma hotel last week because of an alarm, they were struck again yesterday. They had to exit their record company HQ twice after fire bells went off.
Kian said, "Im starting to think something funny's going on." Aides of the band suspect that mad groupies set the alarms off in order to get their beloved boyband out of the BMG Records building.Either that or someone is trying to set them alight

well i watched Westlife when they've got a promotour and concert in Indonesia..really likes the songs..i used to a big fans of them..but now..not soo big fans anymore..
The one that i like in westlife is Shane..he's really really sweet i can shake hand with him during the promotour mini concert..hehe.. never forget that moment..i even didn't wash my hand for about 2 or 3 days..hehe..

I guess it's hard when you are famous... there's always contention; the competiton of who gets the fans, limelight etc etc... it's like shane is stealing all the glory being the lead most of the time; and nick getting attention cos he looks better... Bryan's just in between, talented but not too recognised. gues that feeling sux. :?

shane is the attention hogger. Its just like how Ronan keating hogged the boyzone's limelight ...

You think that of the members? I always thought that the limelight was pretty equal between them all, but i havent been following them closely for a couple of years now. At first, it was always Shane, but he genuinely had the voice..and the band started cos of him. In the later albums, the songs were shared out more fairly.

I think its sweet of Bryan to quit. He realised how important his family are to him, and his two daughters are so sweet. If he doesnt need the money, why should he leave home for months at a time for tours...i guess you could argue that its unfair on the fans, but i doubt theres that much resentment.

Its good that Westlife can continue without Bryan...i sincerely hope that the reason he left was for his family and not cos of arguments. If it was cos of a rift between the members, i doubt Westlife would last for long and then we'd have to endure them trying to launch their solo careers.. :sweat:

I know they tried to split the "limelight"/"singing" but somehow... it's still pretty much on shane... but honestly, bryan does look like a SNAG... I bet he's a great father :love:

I don't think i'd be as supportive of them if they go solo... cos the part I reallly like about their song is the way their voices harmonised so nicely... it's as if their voices were "meant for each other" sorta deal... they'd better not split :cry:

I'm happy to see westlife fans in here. and my fave member is kian becoz he's cute. westlife's latest album, turnaround, is a great album. I also have all of their 5 albums. I also think that westlife is today's #1 boyband in the whole world, with 5 albums, sold out concerts and 2 guiness world records they proved to be really unbreakable.

bryan will have his farewell tour this year and hopefully they'll visit asia sometime this year. :yeah:

But i do not really like the 'Turnaround' album...

So that means they are getting not so good anymore, in my opinion..

Their first album were much better than their recent ones. :worry:
Turnaround is mediocre while Face to Face seems to me as a compilation of remakes. :oops:
I did not like their cover version of Josh Groban's You Raise Me Up
but I appreciated their collaboration with Diana Ross in When You Tell Me That You Love Me.
They're still doing good without Brian McFadden around but their music
is getting...well,let's just say not as good as their first records. :shy:

^ Yup. I guess they're touring Asia, where they have a huge fan base.
They're coming to the Philippines on September 4th.
I believe this is the third time they'll stage a concert here.
I don't think they're trying to make a 'comeback' from what I see.
I guess it's a farewell concert? They haven't announced plans to disband...yet, but who knows? :hmm:

In my opinion, I don't think pop is really dead. It's just that pop music has evolved from what it use to be. Precisely! That's exactly what I'm thinking.

Pop is not dead. I believe pop culture will forever be alive.
The pop music of today just doesn't sound the same as the pop songs
in the late 90's because of the ever changing musical evolution.
Ballads and bubblegum teeny pop aren't completely gone.
It's just that the emergence of alternative rock and the growth of hip hop music
outdid the less appealing branches of pop genre in the current music scene.
I still hear pop everywhere. Pop is still alive, though not as dominant as it used to be.

Now back to Westlife. They've been here for 7 years,
which is a considerably long time for a boyband to survive.
I must say they have a healthy longevity. Boybands come and go.
Their tough rivals and competitors back in the day (98 Degrees, Plus One, A1, etc.)
have disbanded a long time ago so it's still something that they've managed to stay this long
and still enter the Top 40 (though they used to rule the top of the charts with their massive ballads).
With the extinction of the 'boyband genre' (a sub-class of the pop genre),
it's easy to say that boybands have totally vanished from the musis scene and that pop is dead.
No, pop music isn't always synonymous to Westlife, or to boybands in general.

Westlife tried to branch away from pop in Turnaround.
Unlike their usual radio-friendly pop songs, they sang classic hits like
Ain't That A Kick In The Head and the like, in Allow Us To Be Frank.
I think it's a move to keep with the current music arena. They're trying to revive a certain genre
and make it their own simply because their boyband sound doesn't appeal that much anymore.
Just my observation. What do you think?

OMG I love almost all of Westlife's songs.However,some of my most favorite ones are Flying without Wings,I Swear it Again,& especially Miss You which almost made me cry.

They are actually a very unique boyband & have some the greatest vocals & melodies that I have ever heard.So hopefully the rumor about them breaking up is false.

The only thing I don't like about the group is that they were created by Simon from american idol.:crazy:

Westlife is back with their 9th studio album Back Home, which contains 9 brand new and original songs plus 3 cover songs, including the first single, a cover of Home by Michael Bublé.

I'm pissed 'cause the first single of their new album is AGAIN a cover version of another artist's song. Remember when they did You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban and made it the first single of their 2005 album Face to Face? It just doesn't compare to the original. And it's the same thing with Home. I love the song and Mark and Shane can sing but why do they have to remake other artists' signature songs? Can't they make good songs of their own anymore?

By the way, Westlife's Home is currently at No. 3 in the UK singles chart. It debuted at the third spot, being beaten by the second X-Factor winner Leona Lewis and the 90's boyband Take That. Well, all I can say is perhaps the people think they don't deserve to be No. 1 anymore. It says a lot about originality and reinvention.
