Lord of the Rings VS Harry Potter

I think the LOTR movies are better (they DID win a bajillion Oscars), but I like the Harry Potter books more. To me, the LOTR books are too detailed and are kind of bland.
It just sort of goes on and on and on, while Harry Potter moves at a fast pace and keeps me entertained instead of falling asleep when I read Lord of the Rings ~ The movies are GREAT, though.

storyboarding wise, lord of the rings present a far deeper and enthralling storyline

visual effects wise, Peter Jackson still stands above the rest. LOTR's costume to actors to effects to theme songs are all better than Harry Potter.

as for the story books, LOTR is more of a literary collection. the world it created is definitely much more deeper than Harry Potter. they even wrote their own elven language!

there's one thing which is too bad is that harry potter films are gonna span longer ... why ? cuz Rowling didn't juz wrote 3 or 4 books compared to Tolkien's masterpiece :p considering the fact that rumors are hittin the streets with the story lasting till the 8th book?? i dunno please verify this claim as i'm curious too ... i voted for both :p as i liked both of them movies as they're equally entertaining and there's a difference in the target audience of LOTR and Harry Pottter so its not really rite to compare .... but when it comes to film making ... adults ..kids and babies alike will be watchin it and this is $$$ :p sad to know that middle earth ....had ceased its spin

Although I love Harry Potter, and although Rowling is very very creative with her characters and plot, Tolkien affected me more deeply. The relationships the characters forged with each other felt very intense and sincere which had a bigger affect on me than the teenage relationships in Harry Potter

Hey mysadworld! I love LOTR too... and especially the soundtrack... introduced me to the world of Celtic/fantasy/legendary music hahaha...loved the setting and beautiful scenery...lush rolling hills, magnificent mountains, ancient castles etc etc...and hunky heroes, beautiful princesses etc etc. Interesting and cool weapons, ugly and scary orcs and old and wise Ents....

Harry Potter's nice too and fun to watch, but I preferred LOTR! :-)

i like both of them. :D It's hard to choose. Both of them have great stories that can make you stick in your chair till the movie is over. I like HP from the books first. then when they made the movies I love it too cos i can see my imagination become real. On the contrary, I like TLOTR becos i watched the movie first. then i bought the books and start reading it. I think TLOTR is more creepy than HP. But the newest HP book is kinda scary and tense too. :happy:

I've actually only watched the first LOTR movie. :oops: I've watched all three HP movies, and didn't think they were overly amazing, but I'm a huge fan of the Harry Potter books. :-) My vote goes to Harry Potter... I've just never really gotten in Lord of the Rings... maybe they're too complex for me. :D

I like Lord of the Rings more. Hm... maybe because I have yet to see Harry Potter and so I chose Lord Of the Rings. Lord Of the Rings is an absolutely cool movie and the story though short compared to Harry Potter is still good though. I especially love the war scenes of all the 3 episodes.

I just finished rereading The Goblet Of Fire
and realized that it was really great. :thumbsup:
It was a very clever,exciting and unpredictable read. :D
I laughed and cried while reading it repeatedly so I'm looking forward

the director of the first two Harry Potter films -
Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets -
was replaced,I did not like the movie version as much as I loved reading the books. :worry:
On the contrary,Tolkien's novel was quite boring but the film version
came out to be an awesome viewing experience. :shiny:

I think the acting in lotr is better compared to the lame acting in hp. However, I prefer the storyline of hp. But I never really watched both the shows PROPERLY, so that vote is based on impression.

In terms of movies, I would definitely vote for LOTR Trilogy because i think that it excels in all the areas, no matter it is the computer graphics, the costumes or the actors. Lord of the Rings. The cinematography, the producing and directing of the three Lord of the Rings movies were excellent and I understood most parts even when I hadn't read the books. Harry Potter movies don't compare when they draw so much knowledge from the books, so it as though it is expected you read the books before you watch the movies. But if we were comparing the books I'd most definitely say Harry Potter :D

harry potter and lotr were both designed by different people for different ages at different times (get it? XD) tolkien wrote his like 50 years ago, so his writing style is different, and he wrote it with so many, shall i say, "big" words, that not many chldren wil understand. rowling wrote it recently, for children, and her way of writing is different.

i like lord of the rings better because it was amazing, from head to toe. the cinematography was unbelievable, and the fact that they created most of the scenes from absolute scratch is absolutely mind boggling. one of the biggest factors that makes me melt for a movie would be its soundtrack, and the lord of the rings score melted me XDDD *twin towers~* the acting was superb (nothing can go wrong when you have ian mckellen and other amazing actors), and the storyline was set with a sophisticated air. i love harry potter, but honestly, the acting isn't up to par compared with the trilogy, and i dunno...i don't really like how so much was left out of the movies

Never really liked LOTR.. we watched like all of them in school, I was so bored for the whole.. 5 days? = = Guess Im not really suited for those kind of movies. HP isnt as bad because its more exciting and understandable to me.
