Would you still come to JCN if there are no Jay's mp3 to download?

This is a topic of hot discussion lately, especially after unauthorised copies of Jay's new songs were uploaded to JCN. (Those link were since closed and deleted, so don't bother looking for them :rolleyes:)

I'm only thinking about the mp3, because the videos and shows recorded off TV, people can't buy them anywhere else, so I think they should still be allowed.

I know there are people who say they are not rich and don't have the money to buy Jay's albums and so they HAVE to download. But, personally, if I love Jay's music that much, I will forgo other stuff for him, to support him. Because regardless how 'unworldy' Jay is, he still have to depend on the album sales to determine if he can have the next album.

But mp3 downloading, which is the biggest problem music makers have, because people who download them don't go out and buy the CD. (Yeah right, if you actually believe they will go out and buy the CD after they downloaded the whole album, then you should believe in the tooth fairy, Santa and I have a cheap island in the Pacific I can sell you :whistle: )

Personally, I think JCN has come to a point where we have to decide, whether we are going to actively promote piracy, or should we make it a policy that mp3 downloading WILL NOT be available here in JCN.

I'm talking from a personal point of view, because like many of the regulars here, I feel very strongly about illegal mp3 downloading, and how this will affect Jay and other music makers.

There are people who came to JCN because they were goggling for Jay's stuff and found us. Some came, downloaded and left. Others stayed.

But, here's the follow-up to the question :

Would you still come to JCN if there were no Jay mp3 to download?

For me, I come to JCN for the people here, and to check out the news on Jay. To me, it's the people I meet and chat here that matters, since I buy all of Jay's album, and don't download any mp3. So I will be back here, even if there isn't any mp3 for dpwnloading.

But the cruel fact of life is, if no one comes to JCN, then there will be no JCN. And if JCN is not offering mp3 downloads, would you people still come here in the first place?

Yes, of course I'd stay regardless of whether there are mp3s or not. I have the ability to buy his work and not DL them.
When I first joined this forum it was for the purpose of getting to know who Jay Chou is, hence the News section was the sub-forum I visited the most. and now, I'm still here for the news and also for the friendships that I've made. :happy:

I'll still come to JC.net for sure! People that come here for DLs are leechers. Coming here should to be to share our thoughts; Jay-related and other topics. I think that Jay's songs, all of them should NOT be posted in the forums at all; being a Jay fansite, I think we fans should know to support Jay, and not be like this -_-; Demos are okay, but the full versions of the songs that are posted up even before the release of Jay's album is ridiculous.

Of course I would stay if there were no Jay downloads. I'm not here for the downloads. I'm here for the people (especially my silent allies :happy:) and all the interesting threads about completely random stuff here. If I was here for Jay MP3s only, then I would be absent for 3/4 of every year. :D But I'm not. I'm here because this forum is so interesting and the members are close-knit and everything is so tidy, neat, and organized here. It's a very nice forum to browse :happy:

I come to JCNET to stay updated with his news....all the news here are translated so its much easier to read than mandarin although i can read "some" of it. The mp3 downloads are plus for members of the forum and are not to be abused....thats why i think they are forums for regulars....I still am really appreciative to the translaters....its not easy to translate a long news....takes so much time and you gotta follow the format and have a standard of english....thanks you guyz...

My god, of COURSE.

I joined this forum almost exactly three years ago because I needed to find people to discuss Jay with without having to explain who the heck he is first. And as I've watched the forum grow exponentially, my motives for posting here has always been the same: if there's something about Jay and his music that occured to me and I need to vent the idea somewhere and get some informed feedback.

I'm here because this forum has Energy. There are people here with personalities and dedication. Because of JC.net, I feel content as a Jay fan and I feel like the people on this forum push each other to support and love Jay more and more.

But that's the point of a real forum isn't it? A group of people who gather together because of a common passion. Not a pack of random strangers who linger around like vultures hunting for easy meat, freebies (read: pirated Mp3).

Besides the reason why I'm still here after almost 2.5 years is that I love the way this forum is organised, reading the posts the members put up (even though I don't usually reply) and getting up-to-date Jay information.

I agree that at this point in time, we need to decide if mp3 downloading should remain in jc-net. And that extends to not only Jay mp3s but ALL mp3s.
But I believe even if jc-net terminates all mp3 downloading, members who truly like this place will surely stay.

I'm very sad to know that some ppl join JCNet just to dl Jay's mp3s. JCNet is for Jay fans to interact with each other internationally and also to obtain his lastest news abt him.

Without a daily dosage of viewing JCNet makes me feel weird. I would love to see the different views of ppl from other parts of the world. And also share some thoughts and views of different topics posted by others.

I think the downloads section shld remain, but perhaps like wad the administrator, Karen had did, to allow members to post songs that have been played on the radio stations or from the MTV channel. This is respecting Jay himself and also his compositions. The element of suprise that he wanted to give to his fans is no longer there.

I came here for social interaction and I'm enjoying it. I would have left if i only came for the downloads although i was inactive for 5~6 months because i was addicted to maplestory. :oops: I see so many members joined jcnet about 30,000? And they dissappeared forever. Cancelling mp3 downloads could act as a sieve for the members who truly wants to join jcnet.

Definitely. I didn't realize there were downloads when I first joined this forum. The only thing that was in my head was OMG, IT'S AN ENGLISH JAY SITE! and I joined. I love how there's so many Jay fans to talk about their favourite person in the entire world, Jay! :happy:

what i have in mind is that in other artists 's fan websites, they generally block people from registering in the forums 1 month prior to the release of the album.that way, it stops those noobs..

I am here for the site and the people here. I don't really come here for any downloads. The fact that it is in English is really a major plus. There are many people who can't read Chinese and even though if we do, i must admit that it is a hassel to type in Chinese. this is really a place where i feel belong to..

I think there are much more stuff to get here than purely mp3s. For example, all the information, news, pictures and definitely the artistic contributions of the members. Furthermore, although this site is dedicated to Jay Chou, there are also a fair share of information on other artists. So I think ya even if there are no mp3s for download I will still come to this site. JC Net is a very good site I must admit. :happy:

Honestly speaking. When I first found out JC.net about 3 years ago, I was here for the news, pictures and other stuffs on Jay. As I found them very updated and also comments given by the JC members were sometimes very funny! But back then, I didn't join JC.net, as I felt that since I was only here for the news, there doesn't seem to have a point to join as a member.

But after giving it a thought. I told myself: "Why not I join as a member and see what other things JC.net has to offer??"

And since then, I've been stuck till now haha!!! And, I'm the very few that dawnie said: "D/L Jay's songs and buy his original CD/DVD/VCD" haha!!!

Normally I just D/L his songs for personal use & I don't circulate them around. If JC.net's going all out for Anti-Piracy, COUNT ME IN!!!

The very few that replied in here are those who have similar sentiments where we should support Originals, Not just Jay :p . But I'm very sure that there are thousands of members in JC.net that just join for the sake of D/Ls. Because the requirements to enter the "Download Zone" is actually quite easily met.

Event hough i haven't posted much on this site for like more than a year, i drop in every other day or so to read some news and just kinda glance over the discussions that might be going on and such. But the fact that the mp3's have been taken off might set some people back, those who come just to download. A couple of days ago i saw a bunch of songs up for download but i only got Ye Qu beause i didn't want to ruin the experience you get when you pop that CD in for the first time. It's different you know? Kinda like staying virgin till Nov. 1st 2005. iono. But the fact that there are no mp3's isn't going to make me stop visiting the site. Just wait till tomorrow and all the mp3's will be up on the internet anyways. My mom's in taiwan so she's going to get me a bunch of copies of it, hopefully with an autograph or something.

Okay, I guess I could be the devil's advocate here.

What about people who lived in places that does not allow them to have easy access to Chinese albums (esp Jay's album?) , or even if they are selling the album where they lived, they are selling them at very high prices?

I kinda know how that felt cos when I wanted to get DVD of some shows that were sold in the US, either the local stores don't sell them here in Singapore, or they sell them at extremely high prices. (Eg: I got MacGyver Season 1 DVD off Amazon for UD$17, the only store that I found that sells that in Singapore, they cost more than US$30+)

It might be unfair for those people who don't have easy access to chinese music to make a judgement on how good the album, if they do not have a chance to hear the tracks? (:hmm: maybe that's why they have those preview tracks?) And for those who have to buy the album off the yesasia, then there might be a longer wait than the rest of us, cos they have to wait for the delivery of the album?

Some of us might be talking from a biased point of view, because we have easy access to chinese album and chinese radio stations.

I'm just wondering out loud.....

the thing is there are preview tracks that alfa releases in advance like Ye Qu and Fa Ru Xue. These are the ones that they feel might help those who need help to decide/make a judgement on how good the album is. And the then there are those who steal or come across certain unreleased tracks that are not to be released until nov. 1st. although it might help people decide wheter or not the album is good, the songs are illegal. For me, i just download all the songs on nov. 1st and then buy the album. I know i'll buy the album. But releasing downloads for people that will buy the album is a good thing, but on the hand there are those that will never pay for a cd in their life. so iono, better to just not have them until nov 1st, they'll be everywhere after that.

Yup, I would definitely still be around if there were no Jay's mp3 downloads! The thing that keeps bringing me back to JCN is mainly the people (especially the KANRS :tongue:).. and some of the interesting threads around here. It's just a very nice online community that I've grown to become part of for the 1-2 years. And of course, to check on news updates about Jay. My Chinese is pretty bad so the English translations makes everything a lot easier. My other favorite part is the Jay Gallery.

Although I admit do download mp3s (not really via JCN though) and buy pirated cds/vcds but when it comes to my favorite artists or favorite movies etc, I also show my support by buying the real copy as well. Like Jay's stuff, I actually own all of his albums and I am definitely eager for November's Chopin to arrive in stores!

I keep listening to his music and I like all his songs... after that... I start buying his original CDs and VCDs... until now I still keep searching for his previous album... of coz i'd still stalk this forum day and night. this is the only few place i get my jay news translated and lyrics as well. downloads are.....well..i DID download the new songs. but only because i am curious and "can't wait for it". but on the otherhand...i DID pre-order the album. and i own EVERY SINGLE VERISON of jay's album, despite downloading some of his mp3s off the net. but that's only because sometimes there are a few versions to the song. but i guess you are right, piracy will only harm jay more. and if we reallly are true fans.............i guess we should stop.

there are not many sites that offer news translations or news at all apart from jcnet, in fact it is the only one i know of, mp3s are probably just a bonus!

i go here for the community, discussion groups and such. plus it's the only english fan site for jay that is international as well, so i like that

I use to have such a pompous view with relation to forums so I’m still getting my head around joining them. I guess my main motivation for doing so would be because I’m a voyeur & it has a fabulous news & gallery section. To me the download section is a heaven because it gives me the opportunity to watch stuff that I simply don’t have access to like making of’s, interviews & news clips which I simply adore! However I prefer purchasing all my albums & if I had a choice to purchase anything else instead of downloading them, call me strange but I would rather buy them; simplest justification being I prefer the quality.

Heck yes! I buy the originals anyway besides I like coming to this forum to meet other people and discuss random things. It's all good. When I first joined I didnn't know that there were jay downloads. I was attracted to this forum because there was a broad range of topics to discuss and everyone was friendly and welcoming.

Yes...but honestly, in the first time, i came here because i was so curious about all Jay's Songs and the other stuffs like Video and his CMs...

n then i downloaded some songs from Nov Chopin...after that, i decided to buy November's Chopin CD..but i didn't buy the previous albums before Nov Chopin because my friend had borrowed me his Jay's collection CD Album from "Jay" to "Qi Li Xiang"...

n then slowly but sure i started to explore this site..OMG in fact i found out a lot of interesting stuffs here : chatting, playing (in playground), knowing more about Jay's news, Jay's stuffs (besides MP3 of course...like his latest MV that i couldn;t watch in my country,etc), polls, last but not least the friendly people around JCnet..(thanks to cookielmy...she's so nice n friendly to me...thanks or making me comfortable here..)..

but honestly, the main reason i came here was to download Jay's MVs, but now i start to like being here everyday not only to download Jay's stuffs but also to socialize each other...
