You people are so lucky! You get loads of free stuff off the government, but i suppose you pay a lot in tax for it.
Whereabouts in Sweden are you from?

What i saw of Stockholm, it is a very clean place. The air is nice, and there are loads oF parks and trees. There are 40 bridges of all sizes linking the 14 islands together and the views are amazing. But i havent been anywhere else in Sweden so i couldnt say if it was like this throughout the country.

I actually went on a cruise. Sailing from Amsterdam, i went to Bornholm, (Denmark), St Petersburg (Russia), Stockholm (Sweden), Copenhagen (Denmark), Oslo (Norway). The annoying thing was, was on the way back from Oslo to Amsterdam, we were in the North Sea sailing right past my hometown of Newcastle...

I sat in the airport...waiting for the coach to take us to the port...and on the way back...my mum bought jewellery before boarding the plane back to newcastle. My dad said he was never going to Amsterdam airport again!

I dont know if i will ever be going on holiday to Amsterdam...ive only ever been there for transfers to other places, like Hong Kong...

jessca
08-19-2003, 07:21 PM
London and Bristol? Ive been to London, when i was little....you should have gone further north, away from the capital city...its too expensive down south! But i dunno if theres any difference about the walking too quickly bit... :?

Hey!
Whereabouts in England are you? Im in Newcastle.. :D
Yeah, its quite convenient with TVBS, though it can be very behind. And its hard to catch mandarin songs...they tend to show cantonese mvs if they had time to between the programs. Once they played 'Shuang Dao' cos i was requested..but they cut it short.. And with Jay appearing less and less at award ceremonies, we dont get to see him very often at all.

uh, first of all, i just want to make clear that i *am* aware of the fact that sweden and finland aren't the same country or anything, but since i didn't want to start a new topic, i thought i just might as well post into this thread.
ok, does anyone know some nice places in finland that one shouldn't miss? i'm only asking, cos i'll probably spend a couple of weeks there next year. i'll probably spent most of my time in vaasa, but i'd also like to travel around a little. :wink2: suggestions anyone?

hey! you´re coming to finland? that´s so cool. i live here
hmmm... i´m not really that familiar w/ vaasa, since i live in helsinki, but you shouldn´t miss Lapland. it´s really beautiful. and helsinki is a cool place too. although it´s kinda small compared to other european capitals, but we have alot of things to see here too! middle finland is so beautiful too, full of lakes and forests.....do you have any special interests?
what time of year are you coming here?

oh, that's great. my finnish teacher is also from helsinki and a friend of mine lives in turku. i got quite a knack for finns as you can see. hehe. :wink2:
yeah, i'll definitely spend some time in helsinki and probably some other cities as well. if i get around to do it, that is. i haven't set a date yet, but it'll be around feb. - april 2005, cos i'll be working in the german department of the university of vaasa then (or more like doing an internship).
special interests? mhh... certainly, but i can't think of anything right now. however, i'd be grateful for any kind of suggestions (like nice places, web sites (preferably in english though, cos my knowledge of finnish is still kind of... er... limited... i'm working on it though :wink2:)). and is there anything in particular that one shouldn't mention, say or do in front of a finn? (i mean other than the obvious stuff like swearing etc.)

hmm... i think that most finns are really quiet, but that doesn´t mean that they rude or anything, they´re just quiet
and you should never ever ask a finn how much money they make. that´s very awkward for a finn. other than that, i don´t think that there´s much you shouldn´t say.
we have a great modern art museum here in helsinki, it´s called kiasma and it´s in downtown, you should go check it out, it´s so cool :)

yeah, i've heard that quite often, i mean that part about finns being quiet and stuff. but i have to say that i was quite surprised to find that all the finns i know are even more talkative than me.
but thanks for the advice. i'll keep that in mind when i'll try talking to a finn, using my poor finnish. :wink2:

 Hi guys!!
How's the weather in Sweden?? Freezing cold or just cold ?? Can't imagine how cold it's gonna be in Winter
I had been to Stockholm quite sometime ago with my family for about 3 days. It was the quite a boring trip I think. No offence, But I think Stockholm was so quiet. We went to the castle ( can't remember the name, but it was quite near to the sea. ) We had a sightseeing in town, and went shopping. When I went there, I really missed England ( that time I was living in England ) Is there a China Town or anywhere like Soho where you can hang out and eat Oriental food??
I have heard from many pp that the government there is so good. They even give money to unemploy ppl. Is it true??

Ive been to Stockholm too! We only went to see the sites though, so i dont know much about the city.
We had this lovely tour guide, and she told us all the perks of living in Sweden, and by the sounds of it, the Government there is amazing. Though i think they pay a lot in tax for it. We have benefits for the unemployed in England too, but it went by a different system. I think ive already mentioned it earlier in this thread lol...

hahah if you think Stockholm´s quiet, you should come to Finland, Sweden is way more lively compared to Finland!
The weather in sweden is okay I think.. Here in Finland it´s about 15 degrees.. But I think in Sweden it´s warmer..
I don´t think that Stockholm has a Chinatown, just some chinese restaurants and oriental food shops here and there. Yup the social security system is really good here.. The goverment gives money to the unemployed and you receice money from your kids aswell... (that sounded weird.. but yeah)

What's all this about us having a good government? I don't really have anything to compare to, so I wouldn't know  I was 10/11 when I lived in the UK so I didn't give a damn about that kinda crap xD
lol, that's a great idea though, a Jay fan gathering... :excited:
Most my friends here think i'm a nut for listening to asian music, never actually met anyone that's into Jay.. or any other asian artist for that matter.

Jo, vi borde göra nåt så Jay kan komma till Sverige. Det vore sååå coolt. Han får gärna bo hos mig. Free of charge! Haha!
I just went to his concert today. It was sooo DIAO!! He spoke in Cantonese too, and I was like fainting... Hehe! If he came to Sweden and said something in Swedish, would you faint then? I probably would... :p
Btw, where do you buy Jay stuff in Sweden? I see soooo little when I go to the Chinese stores... 'cries'... Tur att jag har hittat lite (actually, väldigt mycket) här i Hong Kong.
