New Taiwanese drama from Love Contract's Mike He and Meteor Garden's (or whatever other show she's in) Rainie Yang!!

I've been a fan of Mike He ever since I saw Love Contract, and I was so surprised by the change in his appearance in this show. The show just came out last sunday I believe, and is a lot like Mars in that there's only 14 episodes, and is directly from a japanese manga of the same name! The episodes are also really long, a bit over an hour, so it's not only forty five minutes like a lot of other shows. But this is typical of TW dramas.

The manga was written by Takanashi Mitsuba.

Synopsis: The story starts off with the main character played by Rainie Yang waiting to give a love letter to her crush, but she accidentally gives it to the "school bully" who is the "prince" of the school...and lots of silliness ensues.

i always thought rainie looked like a little kid, especially in MG, but i LOVE her sense of fashion along with the other girls in this drama except for that creepy girl with the long black hair.

i keep on getting mars vibes throughout the first episode of this drama. anybody else feel that too?

and even though vic chou as ling was just hot, i thought mike he was very creepy in this show, especially when he SMILES. very attractive, but very creepy. i love love love the way he looks though, so different from the dork in love contract.

i love this show after watching only the 1st eps! no wonder they so confidently declare war with the other show Frog Prince (Wang Zi Bian Qing Wa). Xiao Mei is soooo cute with his evil grin! the producer of the show is Angie Chai, no wonder it has a similar feel to Mars! they used the same school too! i love summer hols in TW coz its war of the idol dramas, meaning lotsa show to watch!

I had finished reading the manga and I think it is pretty good. The style the artist draw for its characters is always sort of punk. So that is why the actors are all dressed in that style. I have a high expectation of this show after reading the manga and the reviews seems good here. I must wait for it VCDS to come out then at one go finished all of it......

Just finished watching the first eppie and it's pretty good! Considering that I'm quite a fan of Rainie Yang, and Xiao Mei (Mike) just made this drama even drool worthy. The other guy (is that Chuan Yi? XD) looked pretty good too ! ^^

Lol, and it was hilarious too, although the plot was kinda predictable. :sweat: I like the way they direct the drama, there's this 'comic' feel in it. XD Yay, I love the theme song too! Chou Nan Ren. :rolleyes:

i really like the exaggerated and funny comic feel to these shows. it's so lighthearted, just fun to watch.

chun li: i think rainie is more comfortable acting out and using better facial expressions than da s. and she looks so pretty in this drama. her clothes and her make up and her hair and everything.

The title in Mandarin is 恶魔在身边。Which means "Devil beside you" when translated to English. It's currently still being shown in Taiwan..=)

mike is as gorgeous as always in this. but a part about this drama that irks me is in the end when things drag out, and then people always show up at the wrong time or a step too late or whatever. but i guess that's what dramas are about. i never had that vibe with mars though, so i guess it's ok.

i don't like the girl who calls him "prince", but there's something sweet about how she looks at him even though what she does to get him is terrible. i find the four guys that are his friends hilarious though, especially when they bet on who is going to be with who.

the sneak peek at next week's episode is...AHHH! is yang pin actually going to beat her up? eep!

i am so in love with this series! the last time i love a show so much was Mars, but this is different from Mars coz it's very comical. I love Xiaomei oh my god can die!! Rainie is so cute heehee! a predictable plot but the story is nice, and the show's very nicely shot, fast paced and upbeat! 2 thumbs up!

there is a bit of similarity though. spoilers: like when DMS backhanded da s or when ling slapped the annoying dog girl. and for this one, mike he hits those girls who were beating up the girl who calls him prince. but the only one of those slaps that was really satisfying was when ling hit the dog girl.

well it was great until the crappy ending.
um...i suggest watching it anyway, because i loved it until around the 17th or 18th episode, where the show just...ugh. died.
it was really funny before that part though.
the interaction between mike and ...lin yi chen (i think that's her name) was really good. the show is a lot of fun, pretty realistic (so not very dramatic until the ...stupid ending.) and cute.

I saw xiaomei! Haha.. I went to Yida's autograph session held in Ximending (Taipei). The cast for the show e mo zai shen bian (devil beside me) turned up for a while.

Oh yah, although we did not manage to take pics with him, we manage to meet his mother, his brother and his sister! Xiaomei is the best looking among his siblings! =) My sister took a picture with his mom, and I told his mom that her son is very handsome..hee.

Anyway, I will post the pictures when I reach Singapore. Sigh..this whole day stuck in the hotel room, eat cup noodles, cos of typhoon. =(

the person was pretty fast this time and uploaded it last night, instead of this morning like it was before.

there's a point during the show where they have "no signal" though. probably because of the typhoon in taiwan currently.

episode 4 spoilers:
the entire episode can be summed up in one word: AWW. so many cute things happened here. like rainie finally admitting her feelings for mike and them going on rides together. when he was sick and they were about to kiss and the phone rang I THOUGHT THAT THE DAD SAW THEM. but it didn't happen.

and the girl with the black hair and thick bangs wasn't as bad as i thought she would be.

the parents are so adorable together though. they make me laugh a lot.

i can't wait for the next episode and the appearance of that other guy who "likes" rainie.

yup.. we actually have CTV in our cable channel.. it is shown every sunday night at around 10 pm till 1130.. and replays every sundays 130 pm till 3 pm.. :-) we have around 10 chinese channels - in our cable actually.. its only sad dat we dont have azio tv & CETV.. :-x

just dont expect too much in episode 5.. it is very far from the first four episodes.. grr.. :-x

Hello guys, I've officially joined the "drooling over Xiaomei" club. :tongue:
I'm loving this show!
Mike is totally cute and hilarious in this show. When he gives that creepy smile, I'd be LOL-ing. And I don't like his hair with the bobby pins.

Downloaded all 4 episodes and watched it at one go.
My favourite scenes:

Episode 1
When Mike went to look for Rainie in the park and he enlightens her, followed by the sizzling "dangerous" kiss.

Episode 2
Awww... who won't melt at Mike's puppydoggy eyes when Rainie rubbed medicine on his hand? And their kiss...

Episode 3
He pops by Rainie's and cheekily asks if she's jealous of Lixiang. Haha and she hits his head with a metal tray!

Episode 4
Definitely the part where Rainie raises up her hand, confessing she "likes Ah Mong the best". He takes her hand, clasps them and hugs her. :oops: "I'm most happy to hear about your liking me."
Also the part where they kiss and Rainie tastes butter. And she finds out he actually ate her cake, despite all his coldness earlier. :D

Actually I read a little of the manga after Episode 4. (couldn't resist)
The show has scenes that varies a little from the manga, especially the number of kissing scenes and the side story of Chuanyi and Rainie's friend. And freak, they even had a bed scene! :excited: LOL.

Regarding yummieboba's question, cs_omigosh is right. He has his reasons.
I haven't watched Episode 5 yet, still downloading. Is Episode 5 that bad?
Because I read the manga, I'm immensely spoiled. :cry: But I thought this story arc is very touching. Shall watch it first before I comment.

i really don't like mike's brother in this series. and i don't like how he suddenly appears but then everything is alright after a while. grr! the whole pace of the drama seems super rushed. i don't think this is one of those dramas that's a keeper to watch over and over again. even love contract was better paced, but watching mike is worth it. hehe.

I'm watching episode 7 right now. It's funny the part where Qing Zi and Yuan Yi are coming out of the movie theatre and she's saying how she's so touched that the couple in the movie finally kissed. But when they were inside, they were actually watching "Closer" with Julia Roberts and Jude Law and if anyone saw that, they'd know there's nothing sentimental about the movie. At one point one of the characters was saying something like "did you have sex with her or not" :laughing:

And I agree with whoever previously said that this show is not all that riveting because of the lack of a bigger plot. I don't feel as if I need to watch the next episode, I just watch it as it comes. No real drama that pulls you in.

Also is it me or are they like trying too hard to be cool and stuff? With freeze screens of close up shots of guys trying to look tough. This stuff works in animes, but in live action, just comes off as kind of "zuo zuo", not natural enough.

Anyhoo, still enjoyable overall.

yup.. i agree with you guys.. the first few episodes will really get you hooked up with the series.. but starting episode 5 which is about his brother ah rang.. things get boring.. the funny thing about this series is that conflicts ends fast like the issue with ah rang.. after two episodes of TOO much focusing on that topic, they finally reconciled.. so there is no more story to look forward to.. the plotting is not really good..

and i also agree that mike he's acting of being cool is a little bit exaggerated.. i don't find him good in acting.. i like Yuan Yi than him.. and mike he & rainie's love story is also getting boring.. i'm more interested with yuan yi & qing ze..

I've watched finish the 7th epi too!!! Xiaomei is really cool in that show! Love him so much! haha! The show gets more n more interesting with each episode (cant wait for the next one) and the ratings just get higher n higher. Rainie and Chuan yi went to TVBS-enews last friday and she said the ratings for the agegroup 14-24 is 9 point sth. The overall ratings is 4 point sth. almost 5! Ahhh!!! Episode 8 was the cutest episode ever! It was so sweet. I was smiling like an idiot throughout the whole thing.Ah meng was so cute with the mitten thing and the way Ah meng and Yue pinch each other. There were so many funny and cute moments. the episodes are getting better! kinda. i'm still slightly disappointed by the premise in the beginning moving onto this, but better than nothing!

i really don't know how to think of mike now. sometimes i want to jump him and i just stare at his face and think "you are so hot", but other times he annoys me. maybe it's the character thing. is anybody bothered by the way he talks? he says something, and then stops, and then starts again. it's this halting kind of talk that supposed to make him all "cool" and "scary" but just makes him sound like an idiot. at least in love contract he was able to talk properly. grr.

the new girl is ok. i don't really have any opinion about her only that she's stupid. who falls in love with some guy who saves you once and drags you to a glasses store? ah japanese manga. he looked like he was going to break her arm, i would have slapped him and ran away, in case he was some bad guy who was going to do terrible things to me. i think rainie is the cute innocent type, this new girl is the...stupid innocent type.

um. the new guy has the weirdest lips i've ever seen. he looks ok in the "flashback" scene but just plain weird when he first came onto the screen. but he's not bad looking, kinda cute. rainie seems to like the serious intense types though, mike is just...out there. it bothers me when i can't remember WHY people fall in love in the first place. how did rainie figure out she liked mike? can't remember gah.

i really like the brother now. he amuses me a lot and he's so enthused.

like first with rainie, and then with her friend, then with the goldfish girl, and then now this new girl. along with that teacher person's girlfriend. next episode will be filled with excitement, i can tell. i don't know whether i like this new girl or not. she's so...innocent in one of those fragile ways, naive and cute. rainie is still super cute though. and i liked how mike actually has EXPRESSION in this episode. instead of just "i hate you" or "glare glare". and there's less of trying to act cool and a bit more emotion.

but why was mike so HAPPY with the new girl? he looked like he was having the most fun out of every episode in this series, and never like that with rainie. rainie is always the one who has to reassure him and be all "i wuv u, ok?"

I watched episode 9. It was good and more advanced in plot. Yang Ping and Li Xiang was really cute with the shooting star thing. The part of Ah Meng going with the new girl to Danshui, I think it was kinda out of Ah Meng's character to be so happy with her. But I liked it anyway because I think Xiao Mei actually showed his own character through that part. He was so fun and outgoing. Yeah, when I first saw this series, i though I really liked Ah Meng's character, then I found out I actually like Mike's character in real life (well...not really "real life" since I don't know him THAT well)
Hmmm...the mitten is kinda dorky but I think it is dorky in a cute way...and I think it's not too pretty but it was suppose to match Qiyue's.
The part of the moon symbol on the helmet that AhMeng gave Qiyue, I guessed that it meant her name with the "yue" having the same sound, can't believe QiYue din't get it. But I can't wait til the part with the moonstone ring.

i guess i shall starrrrt. i LOVED THIS EPISODE! mainly because there was a lot of CHANGE in this episode. lots of stuff happened, everyone acted differently. like ah mong FINALLY started being more real, you know? he was so much more vulnerable (it's about tiiiime!). he and xiao yue FINALLY started dealing with their problems of keeping the relationship a secret.

yangping was HELLA cute in this episode. before, i thought he was cute, but just okay-cute (in terms of looks & behavior) but GOSH i am finally a fellow yangping fan haha. soooooo cuuute. so are ah mong's three other friends. what they did under meidi's window was so sweet.

i'm having issues figuring this out- do xiaoyue and ahshen know they like(d) each other? like when he hugged her that time and he was telling her all these things.. did they even get across to her that he still had feelings for her? @_@

i know! the plot of yue and meng has actually started to move instead of staying at the same place for who knows how long. i was starting to get bored yawn with the girl who isn't really a threat at all. and shen, who isn't a threat at all either. i mean there was no real tension of OMG who is he/she going to choose? i just sit there and think someone will say something sweet and then we'll all be reassured again. but i love the four guys and the humor they bring into that scene. i mean it was kind of cheesy and eye rolling and WHY does mike always pause every other phrase to sound intense and serious but just ends up sounding stupid?

i thought yue and shen do know that they liked each other, but they are just afraid to say it outloud and it'll be too awkward. but ah shen always looks like he has no expression. "i am supposed to protect yue. i actually love the other girl, my heart hurts." meh.

man i love that scene when the yue and meng go into the japanese school and ask the person to translate what mei di said to yue. and meng said "that was so embarrassing" and yue was all "you just had to ask". hahahaha. it's moments like that that i keep watching.

MAN that was one exciting episode. well the 2nd half was. i hated that the ah sheng thing lasted half an hour. it was boring x_O and frankly, he & ya li weren't involved enough to make me care about his love life.

this is a definite spoiler. mind you, its not about the current episodes. to explain, i went down to the comic section of a bookstore and searched high and low for the manga. and i started reading the synopsis from behind eg book 11 to 1. :dry: lame i know. :brows: :-)

i heard the episodes now are that the parents are going overseas right? uhm. nvm cut long story short. apparently ah meng's biological mother will come back from italy or somewhere, and ask him to go with her. get what i mean? so he hesitates for a long time, AND I DUNNO WHAT WILL MAKE HIM DO IT, but he's going with his mother, leaving qi yue. BUT they will maintain this long-distance relationship thing.

i don't know. this drama always goes OMG SUSPENSEFUL, and then crashes down when either mike or rainie change their minds and they go off to face the world together. like this time when they were in the rain and such.

i think it makes sense that mike blurted out "WE WERE IN A HOTEL" because then her mom would think worse case scenario and then they could explain it better. and it seems like meng to do that, it would be out of character if he was all explainy and tactful.

i'm glad she knows though. but i think in the previews she's being super stupid if she's cancelling the wedding over THIS...unless there's something horrifying in the background...like what i was thinking....there better not be.

first of all, yes i think you can watch the VCD unless you REALLY REALLY don't want to see ANYthing from the last episode. since they toootally worded it so it sounded like the whole episode was on the stupid VCD. liars. rainie you LIIIIIE to get record sales! :[

anyway. i just watched ep12 today. i thought it was really FUNNY. one of the funniest episodes, but not in a dumb way? i duno. like when yuanyi and qingzi went to go confront ahmeng & xiaoyue about going to the hotel. they were SO hilarious. especially yuanyi. i'm in love with him again. for the past like... 7 episodes i've been absolutely obsessed with mike, but my love for yuanyi has resurfaced. what a cutie<3 and such a gentleman when qingzi kept insisting she wanted to go to the next level with him. he was about to buuurst from sexual excitement but he was respectful and caring. AWWWW be mine, shang yuanyi!!!!!!

anyway. i don't like how everyone was so accepting of their relationship so fast. the big flaw of this drama is that the obstacles the characters face are SOOO shortlived. but i guess you can't expect much from a cute drama that's only 14 episodes long. and i don't like how after the scene where qingzi's dad gets all butthole-like and drags her home... they're suddenly all CHUMMY during dinnertime. she says a few sweet words and they're all smiley -__- it just screws up our whole first impression of him.

i agree that the yuanyi & qingzi thing was very entertaining. i didn't realize until their part popped up, that too much ahmeng&xiaoyue is boring.

ahmeng's mom looks SOOOO hateable. i already hate her. haha i can't believe he's GOING. well i'm just assuming. but it sure looks that way. he seemed SOOOO angry when he got that letter from his mom. l;dfj;afd don't gooooooo

good thing in the previews that the biological mother of mike is shown. cause OMG you know what i thought. i thought that rainie's mother had an affair with mike's dad before and then RAINIE IS SUDDENLY MIKE's BLOOD RELATED STEPSISTER. good thing that's not actally true. but it will be super twisted if mike's mother turned out to be rainie's aunt or something. creepy creepy creepy. if that happens...i don't know what i will do.

i read this really sad story once about first cousins who fell in love but couldn't do anything about it. and it's really tragic. anyway back on topic. mike...will not go to italy cause that will not be fitting with stories like this. but then japanese manga always has these ridiculous things where one of the main characters goes to somewhere else for a while, and then come back and then they meet again and they know they're destined to be. pfft.

the whole meng's mom coming back and her crying and blah blah blah is really super cheesy. same with the beginning "sword fight" between ah yi and qing zi's dad. but i looooove the cliffhanger at the end and the PREVIEWS.

i've been looking for the last episode forever. the BT doesn't seem to work! it's extremely slow. does anyone know where else to download it other than through BT? it's like a drug, i'm addicted :glug: or will any kind soul please upload it for me?

i didn't think this episode was that exciting until the end. the part where he decides whether or not to go. before watching i read the spoilers on the official site so i kinda knew what was going to happen. but anyway, the mom is so annoying. i mean, after all these years, don't force Ah Meng okay! and Ah Meng following his mom is so not his style. he should be staying with Yue forever! omg that part where him, her, qingzi and yuanyi were together at night towards the end...what he said...was so sad. i cried like mad. seriously my tears were like...continuously flowing and i was actually sobbing. it's so sad. and they're so awkward now. i don't like it. THE PREVIEWS!!! that bit where their hands break off and suddenly he hugs her back! omg too exciting. i need episode 14!

I know k-lite is the recommended codec, but I already have a bunch of the codecs that are included with it, and don't really want to dl all the other stuff I don't recognize, so I was wondering if anyone knew which codec I needed :]

Well, I thought vobsub was pretty good for outside subtitles :) If vobsub isn't good, then just download BSPlayer ^_^ It'll do all the work for you by playing the soft subs and the video together, as long as the two files are in the same folder and have the same name ^^

oo also: i just watched the first three episodes and they are sooo amazing! I love Ah meng he's soo hot! I was soo sad for her though when he just kinda abandons her for that girl with blue hair >< I felt so bad and then her old crush runs off with her friend! i think everything was already pretty much expected cuz we could basically guess the ending from the previews of 13 :excited: the beginning bit was quite sad, the part where Yue ran away from Qingzi and Yuanyi. and the bit where he said 'let's break up' was pretty sad. and then comes THAT. i noticed their was a lot of kissing in the show....is he like this in real life too? :rollseyes:and the ending bit where everyone was watching the TV was so lame. that NG bit was the exact one in the VCD which came along with Rainie's CD.the ultimate ending was really stupid in my opinion. but anyway. still good! but they should really tell us what happened to them after that! :bounce:

aw...I'm not that far into the series yet but I like the way Mike He looks in the show...sometimes XD If he didn't use those bobby pins and used hair wax or something to keep his hair back it might look less girly, hehe. I like him best when he's not wearing anything in his hair though. And sometimes his clothes are way too punkish...like one time he wore that black shirt with this big picture of a flaming skull (or something) with that army-colored trench coat >_< blegh!

watching the last episode made me realize how crappy the entire show actually was. and how only good looking people in the show made it alright. but...it could have been so much better!!! mike & rainie have zero chemistry. at the part where they're on the bed, i was like WTF MIKE YOU ARE CORRUPTING POOR INNOCENT RAINIE. and i thought he was about to eat her. like he just fell on her. and afterwards they still look at each other sweetly and cutely.

i think mike's "evil look" is ridiculously silly.

this was a useless episode. same with him going to italy. and whatever.
the sex didn't seem to change that much of their relationship.

the highlights of the show was probably the first few episodes before the brother came in. the few episodes with qing zi and ah yi. then when their parents found out. but other than that...filler.

not a terrible terrible, let's say...MG2 drama. but i don't really like mike as much after this show. hopefully express boy will be decent.

Finally finished the entire series!

My thoughts:

I didn't like the episodes starting from when Ah Rang entered. The pace of the show changed and it became rather boring.
And I don't like how they rushed the ending. Totally stupid. They changed quite a fair bit from the manga right from the start. Though some changes were good: the Qing Zi and Ah Yi story, earlier episodes with more "awww" scenes btw Mike and Rainie. I just felt some changes made the scenes less powerful than what was originally intended in the manga.
I don't like how Mike looked in this show too. Was wincing half the time when he appeared with the bobby pins. And his clothes suck (esp that white circle!!). :rasp:

wahh i finally watched the end!! My views: I agree that the circle thing was weird! But other wise I didn't hate his look. I also felt like the end was a little rushed! I couldn't stand that he just left and came back and that was it! I was emotionally confused I was crying and then two second later I had to be happy! haha But other wise I LOVED this show!!! after watching the last episode, I agree with Jude and realized how HORRIBLE this drama really is. I mean, the first few episodes are just OMG SOOO CUTE and spazz worthy, but once the last few are watched, it gets stupid. I mean, how unrealistic. If ANY couple could survive all those unrealistic problems, then they could be superheroes or something. and Meng's mom is a horrible actress, seriously. -_-; I loved Qing Zi and Yuan Yi .. and can't forget about YANG PING! my love <33 :D he was SOOO funny when he's like "what about the feelings i put out for you?! you have to be responsible!!" in the last episode. omg whaaat a laugh <33 I don't think Rainie and Mike make a very good couple and I agree that the sex scene was .. scary. and stupid. and Meng was so HORNY. T_T

I started to lose interest in DBY in the last few episodes because it feels too rushed and too unrealistic. But oh well, it's over. I had enough spazzes with you girls about this drama anyway. :)

i just started watching this a few days ago. this is my first modern taiwanese serie, so i didn't know what to expect. this was a bit too much to take in at first. some of the actors act like anime characters :glug: i know this story was derived from a manga, but it's weird to see someone act it out ^^; this wasn't an unpleasant serie though (mainly because of the cast :whistle:) i have 4 more episodes left, but i read some review that the ending wasn't that great :worry: i'll see how it turns out...

Phew! :happy: Finally I finished watching the whole 14 episodes, but the ending is so abrupt! I read from CTV's chinese forum that the DVD actually had a longer version which includes what Ah Meng was doing in Italy for the 1 year. The tv station in Taiwan probably broadcasted this ending after much complaints from the viewers. Now that I know there's another longer version of the 14th episode, I will definitely d/l it coz the last episode ended so abrupt and fast. :worry:

Like what HarmonyCloud had said, it was so sad at one minute, then they split with Ah Meng going to Italy. Then within the next minute, he's back. (?) :glug: The ending spoils the whole drama. Nonetheless, it is worth watching.

I just started watching/downloading this drama, and have watched 2 episodes so far. Mike looks so darn seductive when he smiles! :drool: And i love it when he stares at Rainie with those sexy eyes. *faints* i love the fact that he actually knows how to play basketball and looks good doing it, unlike the rest of the guys who star in basketball dramas (5566 :shifty: ) who look so awkward and fumbly when they play. This is actually my first time seeing him, and at first i thought the basketball captain was him. well, they're both hot. I don't really like Rainie, but her friend reminds me of Patty Hou. doesn't she?

for episode 2, why are the people yelling "encore" at the concert when the guitarist fainted? :? don't they care?

Oh no wonder, I thought Li Xiang looks sooooo familiar, like I've seen her before. Never thought she was the gal in San Nian Er Ban mv.. cool... I like her in the series, eventhough she was the baddie in the beginning. Besides li xiang and yang ping is such a cute and hilarious couple.

And yeah i thought jing zi looks like patty only thinner and a much much better dress sense than patty. Oops... guess its no surprise that i don't like patty. Anyways, i love the series soooo much that i watched over and over again, especially the scenes with rainie and mike. He's so super hot, especially those sexy eyes and masterful kissing lips. yeah! i finish watching the series recently. like 2 weeks ago. this show is so good! its addictive too. i absolutely love it. :)

because of this show, i started to like he jun xiang. haha. hes so cute. i absolutely love the way he mumbles when he starts to speak really fast. haha. its hilarious yet adorable at the same time. now, i m watching er nan zai ji dian coz of xiao mei. hehe. :P

ok. er mo zai sheng bian is nice, although the storyline is predictable. i love the cast! rainie look so cute in the show and i think rainie and xiao mei's chemistry in the show is very good.
