How will you rate Initial D?

I've watched Initial D and i'm just wondering how will you people rate the movie based on how the movie directed it and how the cast acted in it. dont be bias just because Jay acted in it. post your opinion and rate it out or 5 stars. For me i think i'll give it 4 stars as there's some scenes of the car racing part, the director shows the mountain instead of the cars and took very long to go back to the car racing. So 1 star is being taken away. but still, the overall was great. considering this being Jay's first time starring as the main lead, it's a great show and the rest of the cast acted well too.

i voted for 4 stars because.. I feel there's room for improvement in some lovey dovey part of the movie. I have nothing to say about racing scenes except.. that's indeed commendable!! As for the crying scene at the last part, it made me teared too, but.. I felt that Jay sob like small kid... hmm... quite wierd.. Anyway.. I really appreciate and love Jay's acting, but I thought that his voice is sort of, unnatural... Hmmm...

Even though I enjoyed the whole movie and the soundtracks, there's always little spaces of improvement.
Maybe have a better storyline as it is a bit messy and maybe a better ending?

I voted 4 stars. I think there is still room for improvement. The race scenes are awesome and exciting. Not to mention that there are a lot of comedy scenes as well. The storyline is somewhat weak and not complete because it is an adaptation from an incomplete manga. Nevertheless, the weak storyline is made up for by the races and comedy so I would say 4 stars. :wink2:

the dubbing was bad and the script wasnt that great. but i gotta say that the racing scenes were very well shot. the characters were good, with awesome acting from Edison n Anthony. as for Jay, acting for the 1st time, it's good enough but can be improved. overall it's a good movie, and i have watched it twice. to see jay...i can watch it a few more times haha!

wow.. i just watched it today.. can't believe i could wait until today. i mean.. it's been like 4 days since it has opened.. and 4 days to me is long for getting to watch my idol's debut in acting big screen.. gosh.. i just love jay sooo much :shy: he was soo cute in the movie, and yeah.. takumi is just so much like jay in real life i guess.. talk very little and yet so 'diao' and all.. gosh.. so cool~! i had to make my dad drive 100km to get to the cinema.. poor me staying in KB.. hahah here comes promoting brunei darussalam again.. lol.. gotta watch it next wednesday again when i get back to sunway.. can't wait!! :excited: anyways.. jay performed well.. i mean.. quite natural for his debut but sometimes he gets a bit 'kayu' you know.. kinda wooden.. but well.. it's his debut and he's done the best.. we still love jay!! :D he'll be a great actor once he gets more and more experianced! rated 4 stars. Being a jay's fan, i still must say that they focus too much on Jay. Almost every single scenes have Jay, and too little on Edison and Shawn. Maybe they did this to attract more crowd coz Jay is more popular?

But anyway, Jay's acting skills is great!! ((: Room for improvments though. He has this "blur" look through out the whole movie. lolol.

and before i went to the cinema, some of friends who had watched it told me that it wasn't very good,but it was Ok especially if i was going to see Jay (including an initial D's fan!). :oops:

I didn't have great expectations of the movie, but i think that it was ok. Jay's cantonese wasn't better than what i thought :wacko: and his first movie's actuation is satisfactory, he looks and acts so natural :happy:

i also like the humorous parts LOL and i would recommend my friends to watch it! :-)

So far, I watched only once. I really like the whole environment but still, there's room for improvement. Eg : Jay's acting. He was doing REALLY GREAT in his first movie. But, he can do more than that. I dont know how to say. :bleh: If the movie is in canto, he should speak better canto >.< And the part where he was swallowing the mantau and then got choke, i think it was a bit too fake.

I enjoyed the whole racing scene. Especially the one Jay racing against Edison and Jordan Chan. The EVO3...crashing...its kinda waste. GIVE IT TO ME..... Haha

I gave the movie 3 stars. It wasn't that bad but I thought that the beginning was a tad too draggy. And to some extent, I was kind of disappointed with the plot cos it deviates from the actual manga by quite a bit. But I guess that's to be expected. How much can you squeeze into an hour plus movie? :wink2:

But from an objective view, I thought that Jay's acting was great. It was au natural and he didn't exaggerate his acting. I really appreciate that. :thumbsup: I know some people felt that his acting was very wooden, but to me, that was how I had envisioned the actual character in the manga to be. I thought Jay portrayed every aspect of tuo hai perfectly. Though the expressions on his face don't vary a lot, but there's a lot of subtle acting. I can finally understand why the other actors and directors heaped so much praise on him. :-)

Oh yar.. and like devonn, I enjoyed the three cars racing scene tremendously. Very pulse racing.

The movie was only three stars for me. But Jay was worth five.

I think the storyline is a bit boring, although there are some parts that are quite funny that the whole theatre was engulfed in laughter. Jay acted quite good for his first movie, although I can say that he still have room for improvement. The most exciting part was, of course, the three cars racing and the drifting of the AE86. i LOVE jay chou but i have to admit initial d is no oscar contender. it wasn't pure crap either. i definitely think there's lots of room for improvement and i would agree with whoever said jay chou needs some acting lessons... i say that in all seriousness and not as a way to bash him (*gasp* i would never do such a thing, i LOVE him!) but initial d's his first attempt at a movie right? it's unrealistic to expect him to be someone who would contend for acting awards and move mountains with his acting... and seriously, acting is hard... you gotta work at it... so maybe with some acting lessons he'll greatly improve yah? :-) he's starring in the sequel to initial d right? here's hoping that movie goes WAY better than the first one. i have faith in jay chou though. i believe in him!

3 stars followed by a lot of critism on mainly the director's part:

The anime itself is rather lengthy and I felt the director did a poor job of trying to compress too many things in only 2 hours time. For example, what was with the three-way race at the end? Why not just remove Kyouchi Sudou (Jordan Chan) completely and it'll all follow through like dominos. The other jerk from Monster (The racing team) wouldn't be in the movie and it would allow for quite a bit more time to develop the plot.

Also, I don't understand why Nakazato Takeshi (Shawn Yue) was in the movie. He's an insignificant character in the anime who was briefly used for 1-2 episodes in order to develop the character of Takumi. If anything, they mixed up Keisuke Takahashi's (Ryosuke/Edison in the movie) role because, he was the one doing a trial on Akina when he was passed by a "ghost car" aka Takumi and he was beaten by the gutter run. I just felt Keisuke should have been used because he's a more significant character in the anime as him, Takumi and his brother Ryosuke form Project D which become the fourth stage and possibly the sequel to this film as Jay stated he would like to join the racing team Ryosuke/Edison had setup. So, it would have already jump started the character development for any further possibilities of a sequel.

It could have been as simple as: Keisuke gets passed on Akina, Keisuke officially races Takumi and gets beat with the gutter trick, love story between Jay and Anne, character development between the two brothers, Keisuke and Ryosuke and a final race between Takumi and Ryosuke where Takumi wins and puts Ryosuke into retirement and therefore creates Project D for the possible sequel of the movie where Keisuke and Takumi are his aces.

I think the movie would have been a lot better plot-wise if it just revolved mainly around those three characters and allowed for a possible sequel.

Acting-wise, I thought it was all done pretty well with some exceptions. I just thought they shouldn't have made Jay have a I-dont-care attitude when he was racing because Takumi began to tense up in the anime when he was racing and chasing the car in front of him. He drove an underpowered car and tensed up because he had to find new strategies everytime in order to pass them.

They shouldn't have made Jay cry either. In the anime he moved on his life after seeing Anne cheat on him so, it was twisting the story already and making it harder for Jay as a first-timer.

That's my 0.02.

I would give Initial D two grades. One for storyline and one for acting.
As for the storyline, I would give it a 2. In my opinion, like all hk movies,
Initial D was just not that good. I personally prefer chinese drama over them.
However, the actors are incredibly hot! I also think that the only reason Initial D
was soo sucessful is because the stars back it up. (I'm pretty sure most of you think so... and all hk movies are like this in my opinion.. so please dont' feel offended) Well as for the acting.. I would give it a 4 overall. Not just for jay but yeah. It's not much to think about, but it's definitly worth watching.

Theres definitly room for improvement, even though being about to watch Jay non-stop (and smiling alot too!!) is such a drool-fest, but in terms of acting, he still needs a lot of practice, though his character kinda does fit him in real life! Took me 2 weeks to get a chance to watch the movie. Unbelievable. I got so desperate I was willing to buy the pirated vcd to watch it!! Luckily there was no stock.
If the original one come with a poster of jay, then I'll buy it. If not, I'll wait until it reaches the entertainment shops in M'sia and then buy the pirated one!! Coz by that time the pirated cd vendors will buy the original one and burn it. That's better than some lacking-skilled recording from some cinema.

Plus, I'm suffering from the lack of pocket money!! T_T

...but wen i saw initial d i totally loved it!!
i love car movies like the italian job and the fast and the furious and all that...

I enjoyed watching Initial D, however, i do feel sorta bad for saying that jay could definitely improve his acting skills to match that of his music videos which i think he's really good at doing, still showing support though. Im sure with more practice he'll be better, or just stick to music. Chapman kinda went overboard with his comedic performance, butt he's still a funny guy. Edison..mega hotness...overall, the movie was pretty good with the exception of some corny scenes. yeah i think jay's crying was a lil weird too...i dunno about u guys, butt when it comes to jay showing emotions, such as crying, or being ticked off (like when he and chapman were fighting) it doesnt look right. i guess those attitudes is not how i see my everyday jay and it doesnt suit him. I cant say too much about the storyline itself because im not familiar with the manga..i only kno of Initial D because i always see a crowd of guys around that game in the arcade...4 stars i say!

The cars could of used some improvements. Jordans car, the EVO was prob the best looking one there. they should of atleast tricked it out, or added extra cars. such as a skyline. Yes i know that wasnt in the original story, but atleast spice it up a little. dont criticize me, but thats what i think.

anyway, i give it a 4 star, because there's many scene that jay could do better, and somehow it give me the feeling of the same old jay that we are used to and not the character that i expect from the movie.

The show was great with some pretty funny scenes. However, I rate it 4 out of five stars cause I felt that there are still a lot of room for improvement.

Jay's acting skill was natural and I was not suprised at all when he won the golden melody awards this year.

Looking forward to his next movie, Jia You Jay!

Initial D! haha I've never played the game before the movie. Jz decided to check it out cuz it was starring Jay and Edison..
It was jz an okay movie for me cuz there's still a lot room for improvement, the storyline was kinda thin. The races were cool and well shot, but it jz didn;t have the "it" factor..
Watching Jay and Anne Suzuki was fun tho. Chapman To's characther jz gets on my nerves..haha
Not a 5 star production, but not bad for a first timer..way to go Jay!

Hmm.. I rated 4 stars because the setting is really good.. Racing on the mountains.. That's something quite fresh.. And all the actors and actresses were very good, esp Jay!! Considering his first time acting.. But the storyline is quite senseless and boring.. So maybe if they make the story more interesting it would be good..

the first time i watched it. i liked it. but i've never read the manga, initial d, nor did i watch the anime, initial d. i was just a newbie watching initial d because it starred jay.

of course, i'd automatically think, 'JAY'S SO HOT! HE CAN ACT SO WELL!'

then. i watch it for the 2nd time. and it's like..'it wasn't as good as i thought.' the original version was cantonese, correct? there was barely any script. i know i know, it's a racing movie. but jeez, let the actors/actresses talk more. ~_~

and then. the 3rd time i watched it. '....' i was very disappointed. ~_~

The movie was fun. Jay was all mumbly (and people say that my Cantonese accent is bad) and I thought the Pepsi product placement was hilarious. I mean, there were two full scenes where he and Edison drink Pepsi together. Both of them spend time holding the can so that the logo is visible.

Anthony Wong is so awesome. On the DVD special features the director said that he was drinking real alcohol in all the scenes because he thinks that make up doesn't properly capture what a drunk person looks like. Method acting at its best!
