I know, i know, its one of the wonderful things about living in this country(the U.S.), right to a fair trial, blah, blah, blah... but i dont have time to go, i have work and summer school and i hafta drive my brother around! plus its far away!!!
someone help me get out of jury duty! technically i'm only here for the summer, so should i say that im not a resident of this county? but once i go back up to norcal they'll prolly just bug me again to serve in that county, right?

If you aren't a resident of the county, I'm not sure why they would try and call you for jury duty ~ just because you don't have residency in the state. Then again, it could be a federal thing.
When you show up, you go through a series of day-long steps to decide whether or not you should be a juror. Now, if you stay, you'll waste the day, but can get out of weeks-long court case. Basically after answering a packet of questions, you sit in a room and they ask you if you have anything that will bias you ~ since it's up to you to say whether or not you would be (based on you being truthful), you can just lie and excuse yourself. If you don't, then you'll get to a point whereas the actual lawyers will ask you questions on your opinion, and excuse you themselves.
If you go in, but aren't called to serve, then they can't call you up for a couple years ~ to my knowledge. If you don't ~ saying you can't come, they'll probably call you in after a few months.

one way i learned from my teachers, is that u gotta be smart, especially in math, like my last year teacher, she got out of this trial where a guy got murder or die of a car acciedent, so using math, she could find out how long he been dead to know whetther the guy was guilty or not. :shifty:

my permanent address is here, but i spend most of the year at my apartment at school, so i dno if i could just pretend that im still up there.
the whole process sounds so tedious...

do they refer to certain biases when they ask, or just biases in general?

lol, my mom tells them she "no speak english". my aunt got a jury duty letter last week and they were talking on the phone and i overheard her explain her "strategy". i guess it works since they were born in taiwan...even though they have a US passport and have been living in the U.S. for 20+ years.

First off depending on the size of the county that you are supposed to serve in there is a good chance that you will not even have to go as far as to answer questions. Then if you do, it doesnt take a whole lot to be disqualified. For example if you come off in any way racist towards the ethnic group that defendant is from, or have really strong feelings about corpral punishment, have extreme hate for homosexuals, etc.... you will be imdeatly excused. It really doesnt even take all that but if you want to be sure those types of things are your best bet. However, in the end only 12 will be picked per trail.

i think you have to be a citizen of the US to be able to serve as a juror. there's no way to get around it, but you can push it back (one or two times if i remember correctly). you get to choose the date when to go back within that year.
even if you do go, you might not get picked... unless you're one of those unlucky alternatives =/

it is not that hard.....as long as the people there arent chinese they will not be able to tell you are faking. Just act like a failing ESL student, expecially if find some other chinese people there and then hang out with them and only speak chinese with them

I wouldn't worry about this too much ( I know you probably don't have to deal with this anymore, lol), everyone gets those notices in the mail. Technically your residence is considered the place where have you spent the most time, even if you are going to school in another state, so they can still hold you accountable to that particular county/city. I wouldn't attempt to try and fake an accent, even if you think it will succeed, just show up, say something extreme and wait to leave :shifty:

when they interview you, just say something hecka racist/bias and they'll let you go .... ex: "uh, i think we should just kill everyone in jail, they deserve it, they must pay for their crimes with their.. LIVES BWUahAhAaHAHA *insert witches laugh*" and then they'll say , "thank you, you're excused".. then BAM your outo there!

If your address is registered to that county then you cannot get around that. If you've been living here and went to school then you cannot say you do not speak english. Work and summer school really do not matter to them. They will make you go. But the good thing is that they pay you like 50 dollars to go or something like that. You can postpone the jury duty but I am not 100% sure you can get away with it for another 4 years. One can think like this. If someone lives until 80 and you do not get your summon until 18. Then you'll only go to jury duty 15 times in your life and that is if you get it every 4 years, which I highly doubt. I am turning 20 this year and I have not received even one summon.

 now it is my turn to get out of jury duty. i was suppose to do it in january but it say i cant be excused unless im like two hrs away. but since im in college, im only a hour away, i called to see if i can get excused but the guy was like 'nope, since ur only hour away, u can still have transporation.' arg, so i postpone it til june 14 which happen to my week of finals but luckly that day i dont really have a final exam. i told my coworker, she said she got out of it by telling them late minute of saying she got school. i really dont wanna do the jury duty especially when i just finish my exams rushing to be back to my hometown to have jury duty..
by friends say just be racist say "i hate blacks' that will get u out of jury duty..

If you do get called...it is NOT in your best interest to lie....if you're discovered...you can be held in contempt of court, serve jail time, or have it placed on a criminal record. Not fun.
You can legally petition the court for a waiver if you are a full time student (most states will not force you to miss class) or if serving on a jury will cause financial strain (they will not force you to miss work if you cannot afford to).
In any case...during the jury selection phase...be as vocal a possible. Let them know how you feel....if you don't say anything...they wont know your leanings and your probability of being chosen increases.
The lawyers trying the case write up a list of those they want on the jury...compare names...and pick and choose.
So...if you're an extreme liberal on a death penalty case...but you don't say a word...how would either lawyer know what you're thinking?
If they know you're anti death penalty...one of those lawyers is going to cross you off their list.
You don't have to go to the extreme of saying your a racist...subtle things like...
I don't believe the justice system is fair, it's more harsh on ethnic minorities and those with low socioeconomic status (but that's true right??).
I've noticed that extremely "liberal" responses....tend to get people kicked off off.
But really...be honest and absolutely DO NOT WAIVER in your answers.
Take a stand and be stubborn about it.
A lawyer wants to pick a juror whose opinion they can sway.

Although this is old, I guess I could add something.
Jury duty is only for US Citizens. So if you're a permanent resident, or a student visiting on a Visa, it doesn't work. They send out randomly selected people, and not all are eligible. Check that box stating a reason and they should understand and won't do the same thing again.
http://www.uscourts.gov/jury/qualifications.html
Based on this, getting dismissed as a juror is hard. I had a teacher going into jury duty who said the judge only let go a juror because he was a brain surgeon going into an operation soon. But all of this is after the basic qualifications.
