Rather than post a flood of different bands, I just thought I would post this one post, and list a few rather unknown bands. I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of them except for me and a few japanese people....

Some are fairly popular, but I haven't seen them on this thread, or on the "search" results...

X-Japan
A hard-rock band ~ mostly ~ which has a few well-known songs such as Dahlia, etc. Their Ballad Cd comes more in line with something a Jay fan would like. "Crucify My Love" is a must have.

Charcoal Filter
An upcoming rock band that focuses on the 16-19 year olds. Their "Brand New Myself" is especially good.

Concerto Moon
Hard rock, basically a japanese metallica. The lyrics are surprisingly good ~ for more than a few songs, althought the beat is hard to find for raving.

Go!Go!7188
Two girls and a guy, rock-style. Hilarious sense of humor in lyrics ~ movie videos are a must see. Movies are actually better than most of their songs. Best movie is "Paper Keiba" ~ you will laugh, I swear XD.

Day After Tomorrow
The cutest girl I've ever seen ~ especially in the music video "Faraway", and the two guys with style I love. Makes me want to change from Chinese to Japanese.

Pierrot
Great overall songs, strong lyrics. Just a great band in general ~ one of my tops for japanese music.

Porno Graffitti
Don't let the name throw you ~ its not "dirty", but rather like Pierrot in that its a great band, and one of my favs.

Supercar
Possibly the best indie band of all time, they mix a variety of styles and beats. Their "BE" music video is the best I've seen ~ definitely. Extremely deep lyrics like for "sunday people" make them truely great. My favorite Japanese indie band ~ almost on par with my opinion of Laraku.

The Back Horn
Hard rock based on the flaws in society. Biting social commentary in a flowing style, but its similarity will get you bored of the yelling fairly quickly.

ooh. i know the back horn, x-japan, and pierrot. i've heard of a couple others but i've never tried their music. the back horn is pretty good. i'm not too fond of x-japan ..even tho they were really famous at one point. i like one x-japan song, [tears], but i prefer the trax version.

I just realized that my avtar dissappeared when the server collapsed a week or so back. So I made a crappy placeholder till later. Grrr ~ pisses me off ~ it's so ugly!

Yeah, I prefer the ballad cd ~ I think tears is on it ~ more than their regular rock stuff.

I don't exactly think XJapan could be considered INDIE.. Mauhaha.. They are onve of my faves and I believe they simply broke off before they could start being super hot in Asian countries, hence the lack of impression of them. But thanks to that Korean movie "Windstruck" people are asking about XJapan because of Tears, which very aptly Yoshiki wrote to remember his dead father.

Anyway about Pierrot and Pornograffiti. i think they are very much underrated. their songs are pretty good. pornograffiti though, i think they are a bit too hard to break though now. members a little too old to let young girls (which make up a big fan base) go a-ga-ga over them. Pierrot.... I rarely see their faces anyway. ahahah.. but i think their image and songs theme are always very well though out, something sorely lacking these days.

Oh my god. I love songs by Porno Graffitti. I think one of the better known songs amongst people who watch Full Metal Alchemist with the original Japanese opening would remember a song named Melissa which is done by them. I've actually this like up because they were listed on a site where you could buy FMA music.

But Charcoal Filter rocks too! Brand New Self is such a great song!!

I don't know if Ellegarden can be considered Indie, but I believe that Oceanlane is. But if they are, has anyone else heard of them?

i know x-japan (which i don't think are indie nor unknown, quite the opposite in fact), and i'm a newcomer to porno graffiti and the back horn.

i have to disagree about the back horn too...
i really like their songs, especially platonic fuzz (hehe) and ame.
