Do you think illegal immigrants should receive driver's licenses?

This is currently a huge controversy in California because some politicians insist on issuing illegal immigrants driver's licenses that look exactly the same as those issued to legal residents even though the majority of the population in California rejects this measure.

Here are some arguments that I've heard that are for issuing the driver's licenses:
1. These people wouldn't have to drive in fear if they had one.
2. It would make it more accessible for them to learn the laws of the road since they would have to pass a writing and driving test.

Here are the arguments against issuing the driver's licenses:
1. They are here illegally so there's no reason why they should get one. A driver's license is a privelege for residents.
2. It would cost the taxpayers a lot of money due to the influx of work at the DMW.
3. Since a California driver's license is a legal form of identification, this would be a huge security threat.

So what are your thoughts on this topic?

Well, I think that illegal immigrants shouldn't even be driving in the first place.
Anyway, if you want to issue them licenses, the licenses should not be exactly the same type as those owned by residents. Perhaps, they could own a license that is of a different colour, to differentiate between them and the residents.

Anyway, illegal immigrants should not be given such privelleges.

um no I don't think illegal immegrants ANYWHERE should be issued drivers licenses. That has to be the weirdest question I have ever hear the government bring up.

This [I]is an odd question but i must answer emphatically NO. Giving illegals licenses legitamizes their presence in the US. The more they are treated as average law abiding citizens the more there will be a call for total amnesty.

I don't think illegal immigrants should be allowed drivers' licenses. Those are a right, not a privilege.
