I was wondering if anyone was going on the 2005 Overseas Compatriot Youth Summer Formosa Study Tour To Taiwan sponsored by the OCAC (Overseas Chinese Affairs Commision)
Has anyone gone before? What's it like? What's an average day of the Study Tour like?
Who is going this year? I'll be on the first camp, Taiwan Development Institute.
For those who don't know what it is, it's basically for CBC and ABC or FBC (Foreign Born Chinese) from the ages fo 17-23 to come spend a month in Taiwan learning about Chinese culture and what not.
i ve gone in the end of 2001 till beginning of 2002..I can say.. ITS NICE!!
many of the ones that went consider it the best tour theyve ever went!
cause you meet a lot of people from a lot of places, makea lot of friendss..oh and the learn chinese thing LOL..but mostly, the people that go dont study hard..thats one selfs choice of course..
well..a average day its like..in the morning: breakfast, after that you have mandarim classes..(grammar, listening, speaking, videos, writing etc) then lunch..then couple of hours free..then a class of a chinese stuff which you chose in the first day (kung fu, chinese io io, carving stamps, etc..) then dinner..after that its fee, but you cant stay out after 10 pm..theres a bedcheck..but a lot of people do the bedcheck, then leave, go clubbing LOL
there are some days that youll go touring some places of taiwan..
you wash your own clothes..what else...
well you can get a idea from this right?
man, its worth it!

my friends and I want to do that next summer, after we graduate from High School. I was considering doing that, but 7 weeks or however long it is is too long for this summer. do tell us how it is and stuff! i think ftlouiea went? i may be hallucinating or whatever but yeah.
it's a good deal though - like ~$500 for 7 weeks including meals and accomadation, right?

and yeah mostly its all mandarim, but dont worry, there will be a whole bunch of other people like you, so the english is also very used!

well i am not too aware of time, and periods this stuff ..neither prices..forgot sorry LOL
but it includes meals and accomodation yes! and as much as i recall it was quite worth it, considering the cost/benefits..
as my personal experience.. i stayed 2 months..in the winter vacations (summer vacations for me in the south hemisphere)..i do know that the maximum continuos period you can stay is 6 months...

I think I'm only going to be there for a month.
Hmm...I'm suprised, I thought more people from here would've been to the study tour because I heard it was pretty big.
yeah strange..
maybe because its not divulgated so much..i guess

I wish I had gone on that after high school. I had a few friends on it and apparently there's a lot of debauchery that goes on there too. =) I don't know if they're just joking with me. But I can vouch that the name "love boat" is true. One of my friends met her husband on that trip.
