Now that it has been released, and you can dl the mp3s here (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4343) (usergroup members only, maybe someone will be nice enough to upload it for non-group members)
But hopefully you bought it!!
Please give reviews of each song, maybe a track by track review would be nice!

I promised linny I wouldn't listen to it >< so I can't review... gah so tempting...

Tracklist:
01. Jay Chou - In the Name of the Father (Yi Fu Zhi Ming) [5:42]
02. Jay Chou - Coward (Nuo Fu) [3:38]
03. Jay Chou - Cloudless Day (Qing Tian) [4:29]
04. Jay Chou - Year 3 Class 2 (San Nian Er Ban) [4:40]
05. Jay Chou - Broken Wing (Dong Feng Po) ..or East Wind Breaking [5:15]
06. Jay Chou - You Can Hear (Ni Ting De Dao) [3:50]
07. Jay Chou - Same Kind of Tune (Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao) [3:51]
08. Jay Chou - Her Eyelashes (Ta De Jie Mao) [3:53]
09. Jay Chou - Love's Cliff (Ai Qing Xuan Ya) [4:22]
10. Jay Chou - Terraced Fields (Ti Tian) [3:33]
11. Jay Chou - Double Knives (Shuang Dao) [4:51]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
edit: SORRY linny!! I couldn't do it with the MP3s sitting on my computer!!!

I love track 5, Broken Wing, it's very R&B yet has that Chinese instrument in the background. The erhu (violin) I think, and the other one where u pluck (edit: the PiPa thanks Jo!) ..the melody makes it sound very Chinese as well.
Track 10, Terraced Fields is so cool! And different from what Jay usually does, cuz it has a Taiwanese Aboriginal (for people in the states, kinda like Native American) sound to it!
*goes to listen to the rest*
SORRY LINNY!!!

I listened to whole album...
i didn't bother listening to Yi Fu Zi Ming... so i started with Track 2....
My first impression was....whoa.. this is pretty different from all his other songs....
after listening to that.. i thought track 3 maybe be more of a jay type of style song.... like an hao, jian dan ai, or xing qing..but no.. it wasn't really catchy... and once again.. to me i thought it was quite different from songs from his past albums..but after listening to it for a kazillion times.. i'm starting to like it more and more hehe...

after listening to the whole album.... i thought.. wow.. jay really through me off... i was expecting something simliar to his previous albums.. but with even better songs....
this time i think he really reinvented his music... its very fresh and un predictable.

i thought i knew the style of songs that was gonna be on the album, but i was wrong, he really surprised me with each track after another when i was anticipating similar songs.

I think my favourite song has to be track 6, Ni Ting de dao... that song is just addictive...
i expected Vivian Hsu to be more involved tho!~

Overall i think he did a good job, used a lot of different instruments and his music has really evolved. A very creative album.

yup, u have to listen to it a few times to try accept the fact that the style of his songs have changed...i was really cought off guard by the 2nd and third songs and the last few songs in the album.. but i think jay did warn us that this album was gonna be different.... i'm still trying to get use to it... dong feng bao, yi fu zhi ming, san nien er ban, ni ting de dao are my favourites ^^v i still prefer his old style but this album is like one of those sweet and sour sweets.... overall... DEFINITELY AN ALBUM WORTH GETTIN'!!!! :excited:

I love this album. I like alternative, R&B, everything, soooo....

I just don't like heavy metal.

But anyway, my favorite song is Deng Feng Po, and Suang Dao.

Remember Jay said that his album won't CHANGE SO MUCH? Remember when he said he was keeping his style? I think he said that to throw everyone off.

is it only us jay's fans or does other musicians get their songs dissected by such wonderful fans ? whether good or not , each effort of jay's is noted and i think that's the highest compliment we can give to our favorite singer. i do not know how to download but eagerly waiting for his cd release - will only get it after 5th august . read monkee's indepth review of jay and 8 dimension - will look fwd to his review of this album . tks in advance monkee.

good: san nian er ban, qing tian, ai qing xuan ya

all right, i do not dare to say much to this album yet coz i'd just heard everything.
just let me hear a few more times... hee hee ^_^
then maybe is more accurate...

track 1 - yi fu zhi ming
everyone heard it.. the song is special, i get to hear all those wierd sounds. hee hee ... the MV is so nice !!!!

track 2 - nuo fu
this song really sounds like one of those linkin park's song. but it really shocked me. wahahha
this is something new from jay !! :yeah:
the kid raps well too...

track 3 - qing tian
to me, this is like something an hao, xing qing....
but it is also sounds like one of those english love song...
it has a very huge english style in it....
maybe sounds like when u say nothing at all....
ahahahhahah...i dunno la !!

track 4 - san nian er ban
uhmmm... this is something like milan de xiao tie jiang
the weird and hip kinda song.

track 5 - dong feng bo
this is one of my favourites !!!! love it so much!
i never stop hearing it today!! whahahahahahha
this song is has a chinese style in it.
the er hu with guiter plucking.....ahhhhh
so nice...!!! hear it.. you'll love it !!!

track 6 - ni ting de dao
another favourite song of mine..!! V (^_^) V
it's the one2free song.. nice and soothing...
it's something like hui dao guo qu...

track 7 - tong yi zhong diao diao
wahahhaa...this song is cute.
it has a very different beat.... i think you will shake your body when u hear it.. ^_^

track 8 - ta de jie mao
the intro for this song sound something like jamiraquai's song.
it's a very hippie song. i kinda like this song too !!

track 9 - diao jin xuan ya
this is a sad song to me.....quite nice also.
but it is not as sad as an jing or fen lie..
coz in the chorus, he uses electric guitar, i think.
hmm.. i think this time he dont have a song only using piano... > <

track 10 - ti tian
oohhh... this is like a song from some tribe.
very antique...like OoH AaH Watchaanaa !! Oiyo oyiyo nabuwa nayina HOoooo!!
he jay raps in it... nice song !!! :yeah:

track 11 - shuang dao
hmm...something like shuang jie kun and long quan
using electric guitar....jamming here and fighting there...
wahhahahahahhahaha....but it has some Oiyo Oyiyo(like those ancient tribe saying their prayers)
nice nice song!!!!

overall, jay did try to change his style abit.. not much..
but it's a good try.. i think this album is not bad !!!
i think he uses electric guitar in most of his songs !!!
and the whole album is kinda more into rock and hip hop.

TRULY RECOMENDED !!!! get yourself one NOW!!!!!

i don't have time to review the album yet so i will review the CD itself *grins*

i was kinda disappointed in the cd booklet because there were no shirtless jay pictures. actually, there weren't that many pictures of him in the booklet (sighs) but the texture is nice and glossy- very cool. it came with the VCD! i was scared only the ones you preorder on yesasia had them. it also came with the classic photo painting whatchamacallit. it's basically the cd cover, but.. painted? sketched? i have no clue. it looks kind of scary.

i was listening to yi fu zhi ming and it sounds different from the radio/music video version.. the chorus.. i don't know what exactly is different, but it just is. maybe i'm still dazed from staring at the booklet..

erm...

i thnk this album is okay la., i give 7 for it..

i love dongfeng puo and ni ting de dao.. i repeated those 2 tracks only

other songs are okay.. but i kinda hate track 2 , dat lil kid's rap's kinda annoying.. altho the music's good.. ~ ~

i prefer his 8 d album better..

hmm i think this album is really refreshing.. there are elements of jay's style yet there are many new albums.. i dun really wish to comment too much at this moment.. cos jay's songs tend to grow on me.. when i first got it.. honestly i only liked a few tracks.. but slowly the whole album is growing on me in a strange way.. overall i must say that jay has improved.. his music sounds more varied yet it maintains his style.. (haha i still can't understand what he's singing unless i read the lyrics )
so far the songs i like.. track 3, 5, 6, 10..

and yes the shuang dao movie mv is really cool.. jay looked really cute.. but it was odd that everyone was speaking in english but he was speaking in chinese.. hahaha and the last bit when he talked to the girl was so cute..
to chun li.. the movie mv comes with the cd.. i dunno if it's just in the pre-order version..

anyhow i was disappointed there wasn't a poster along with the cd... i mean i paid 24 bucks for it.. argh all i got was a freaky pic of jay.. it's some drawing that isn't very nice..
anyhow i think the packaging this time reminds me of the fantasy one a lot.. the glossy lyrics book and layoutof the lyrics itself.. even the look of the cd reminds me of the the one cd..

ok i shall go listen to it again .. will comment when i'm more familar with the songs.. in the meantime those who haven't got the album.. quick go get it and support jay!!!

ok...........i am VERY surprised/shocked at the style of this album

I was wanting/waiting for something else..........and then I heard it .........I was "blown" away  by "Yip Wei Mei" ...................Jay has definitely shown his "Diaoness" :yeah:

I listened to the same song on repeats lots of times since I had to wait for the next song to d/l in a slow manner

but it is so different.......therefore, i have to listen more and read lyrics (chinese/translations) [thanks to Jo, Mike....for typing up lyrics :) ] to give a review

but there are already songs which will be on my "repeat" list and some that will get "filed" away for when i'm in the mood to listen to them

Question: - Do you think the lyrics to some of these songs are harder to sing than other JAY albums?

Chun Li

i was kinda disappointed in the cd booklet because there were no shirtless jay pictures.

Another piece of evidence that this forum is dominated by women.

1. Yi Fu Zhi Ming

Not much to say about this. This song comes to me the same way all the other Jay songs do. I've listened to it overly much, but it still has it's flavor. The instrumental and background sounds fit in perfectly. Even the subtle sounds of someone breathing out at the beginning plays a role in the song. The music video is very nice too.

I didn't really like the screaming. It kind of got on my nerves the first time I heard it. It's incorporated in the song well, imagine just listening to someone screaming, but if they turned her volume down just a little bit. I wanted to hear more Jay less screaming.

3.75 / 5

2. Nuo Fu

The lyrics for this song are really good. About how drugs are bad for you or experience. I guess it might really influence a lot of people not to use stuff like that. Also this is one of my favorite kind of raps. It has a little Ban Shou Ren taste to it. The guitar in the back gives it a rock feel and the constant record scratching noises, like always, nicely fit and make the song have a lot of feeling.

This song isn't as original as it could be. Reminds me of Linkin' Park. I don't know about anyone else but it sounds REALLY similiar to Linkin' Park. And I know some people liked the little kid in the song but i disliked the kid. To me, it ruined the song, kind of destroyed the taste. I think kids (like the kid from machi) are annoying and they're voices sound like girls. I'm pretty sure that's a boys voice though.

3.5 - 4 / 5

3. Qing Tian

In this song he uses, not is normal rapping voice, but a sort of fake voice. Think of Lee Hom and his voice. Jay sings like that in this song (just a little). I like it. The song has a nice melody but it's very simple. I found it really nice even though it's so simple. Jay's voice sounds nice in it.

I had a feeling that he couldn't hit one of the high notes but the others were nice. You can't really hear if without trying to find it. Also the ending is awkward. It just ends without an ending... just --stops--

4 / 5

4. San Nian Er Ban

This song had a great impression on me. The rap is nice, he sounds really diao. The lyrics are humorous. And the ping pong sounds in the back feel like they are meant to be there. I love the way they almost relpace the drums. And the sound of the ball is just really nice. Again, Jay pulls this rap off nicely. A farely simple rap with clear lyrics.

When I read the lyrics i thought that maybe if Jay made these TWO different songs it would sound better. The beginning of the song almost doesn't fit with the second part of the lyrics.

4 / 5

5. Deng Feng Po

This song is one of the best songs in the album. This album doesn't have songs like An Jing and Hei Se You Mo. But this song has a peaceful feeling. It makes you want to sleep, in a good way, it's so nice. It reminded me instantly of a traditional Taiwanese song. The tune or melody and background of the song sounds like a traditional song brought to the future. I love the way he incorporated the Chinese instruments in the background which give it the taste of the past. Also Jay sounds very nice. His voice just flows through the lyrics without trouble (they aren't that fast though) but he just finds the notes nicely. Also I just thought that this song would go nicely into one of those Chinese shows of the past. Like a Lian Shu Jiu of the past. Or some kung-fu movie.

I have no bad comments.

5 / 5

6. Ni Ting De Dao

The intro to the songs sounds the nice, from the piano, to the drums and they Jay. Transfers nicely. It has a nice melody. Although it's simple to sing, to sing it the way Jay sings it is almost impossible. He makes it sound almost like he was born singing it. And a lot of Jay's famous voice and he hits the high notes. There's nothing unusual about the in

struments in the background but they are, again, nice. I don't know how to describe the song very well but it's just one of my favorites.

I have a feeling Jay could have made this song even better. Although it sounds great it feels like something could have been added.

4.5 / 5

7. Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao

The intro is kind of awkward but then comes the song and it it fits in. The sound in the background is one of the cooler parts of the song. Jay really makes the song so you just want to get up and dance to it. The beat just makes your feet move on the floor. The rap is also pretty cool. Even thought he ending is sudden it doesn't sound like anything's coming after it so it ends nicely.

At 2:12 he starts having the tap dancing sounds until 2:35. I don't like the way it interupts the beat. It's like... *dancing* tap tap *dancing stops*... Has an awkward pause where it ruined the beat for 20 seconds.

3.75 - 4 / 5

8. Ta De Jie Mao

Like someone said before it does remind me, also, of Tao Zhe (David Tao). But I think Jay pulls it off nicely. He isn't the Little King for no reason. But the song has a Tao-melody and he sings like Tao. The song is good.

Even though the song is good i don't think Jay fulfilled a lot in this song. It's too David for him. He sang it really nicely and I really liked the song i can't give it a high score because it's not really original.

3.5 / 5

9. Ai Qing Xuan Ai

The piano intro is really nice. It could almost be a song by itself. This song sounds a lot like Chyi Chin (he's pretty old but he's really good). But I think Jay has the right to claim it as his own. It fits Jay perfectly. I think this is one of the best songs on this album. Jay makes the song sound really Zhi Ran, or natural.

I think this is one of Vivian's better lyrics although they still aren't good enough. I don't really like Vivian's lyrics they really innocent and honest but not developed.

4.75 / 5

10. Ti Tian

The intro for this song is also nice and Jay's voice comes in. This rap isn't as clear and it doesn't flow as well but it's nice. When i first listened to this song it clouded my mind with pictures of people a long time ago farming on the terraced hills. It creates an image of people kind of suffering and stressed because of all the work. It really fills your mind with pictures that Jay had painted. It's really lovely.

The rap is kind of clustered. Where there should have been one word he stuck in two to fit everything but then it didn't sound as nice.

4.5 / 5

Shuang Dao

Unlike the other songs related to martial arts this song has a different feel but a similiar style, it has short lyrics but deep. They describe his rush to kill. Not really Jay but it it creates a mood for listeners. I really liked this song a lot. It also has the feel that makes you want to get up and dance. It has a mixture of urban flavor and martial arts. Makes you want to pop and fight at the same time. It's really interesting.

I have a lot of negative comments for this song. The beginning with the sounded too much like Ti Tian. And the guitar sounded almost identical to Nuo Fu. And in the middle, near the end, with the fighting noises, it sounded cheesy. I think Jay could have made it sound better but it doesn't sound really diao.

3.5 / 5

Overall this album is great. I might rate it higher than 8D but it still doesn't match the supremacy of Fantasy. Luckily not all the songs had a European taste but an ancient / traditional asian feel too some of the songs. I'm sure Jay fans will be delighted to listen to the songs.

Well...i guess this is like his rock album...

a lot of rock, almost all songs have elements of it.

And his songs are more traditional, like what you would find from other artists.

I can imagine other ppl singing qing tian for example...

maybe this album will grow on me...but not a lot stands out right now like in his previous, i even liked 8D better first time listening

o yea, and its been 2 albums since hes done a classic piano voice piece, hmmm

track 4: i wonder if the headmaster is vincent or the same guy who was the customer in "iron box half island" from the last album <- this is the best song on this album imho

track 11: for chun li, did you hear the "haryuken" and "lighting kick" sound effect mixed in? lol...my friend actually have a record have all the street fighter effects on it...i need to buy that record.

once again, i still think the fantasy album is jay's best work!

like many of u out here, jay's songs always has this growing effect on me - no special feelings first time listening to it, but after the 2nd or third time, every song and all the details starts to grow on me... and i'll fall in love with every song. anyway, here are some of my thoughts..

i think jay once said this album is to have a strong european flavour (thus explaining the various MVs filmed overseas - Rome, LA) Track 1 <Yi fu zhi ming> was pretty clear on that direction, so are Tracks 2 <nuo fu> - has a Linkin Park feel and 3 <qing tian> - has a classic english pop ballard feel. even Track 11 <shuang dao> has a distinctive rock flavour compared to <shuang jie gun> & <long quan> which have very strong oriental flavours. :wink2:

i agree that when i first heard Track 6 <Ni ting de dao>, i thot it resembles Tao Zhe's <Tian Tian> (from his 2nd album). but the way he sings it and the high pitches made the real difference..

Track 5 <dong feng bo> sounds really oriental. reminds me of fei yu qing, strangely. :?

Track 9 <ai qing xuan ai> reminds me of coldplay.. :)

think the lyrics for Track 10 <ti tian> was pretty cute for the opening sentence on fang wen shan.

wat is worth noticing is that jay seems to be more involved in the music arrangement part for his songs, which i felt is a very good improvement. his lyrics are also more mature and deeper. :excited:

of course, i have to comment that the MV <Yi fu zhi ming> is very cool and jay was very good-looking inside, as a mafia gangster. i particularly liked this scene that he shaked hand with a guy and then smiled (showing his dimples) and another where he held up his glass and toasted to a table of people.

to conclude, the whole album gave me the feeling that its a very english/european - directed album but is in chinese. maybe this was the kind of effect he was trying to create. if so, i think he has succeeded triumphantly, for me at least. :D

I must admit, with this album i liked the songs when i first listened...but that's probably cus i've been listening to this style of music for a while. the only thing that threw me off was that jay was singing it. and i agree that one of the tracks sound like linkin park...i was actually taking out my linkin park cds just to see which one it reminded me of, the style's the same but i couldn't find one song that matched any closer...when i listened to the track, korn also crossed my mind, but i'm most likely wrong cus i haven't listened to their music in a really long time. anyway, it seems like jay's musical talent has increased, he's experimenting with more styles and instruments, that's great. I haven't heard of many artist's changing between different styles, it really improves an artist when that happens cus you experience different things and find what's so likeable in each style. hey, maybe one day he'll take the best part of each style and create something completely different from the music available today. :) ...just a thought, but if that happens it would be awesome.

i got the album today!

yayyyy lol

ok well i'll just give a brief on the bonus vcd.

the "yi fu zi ming" mv on the vcd is a teeeeeensy bit longer than the one we have here. but that's about it.

the making of the mv is great. you get to see jay shop around... go site seeing... and watch him laugh! ^^ yes, that's right, not JUST his signature half smile... or a chuckle... but he was like cracking up ^-^

this time, it's "double blades" that is the "movie mv" its 13:56 mins long... jay says a few words of english! awesome~! ^^ and you can watch him of course fight those "thugs" lol and a freaky chick with a lot of eyeliner and a white guy with them double blades. :excited:

the oil painting of Jay is scary!

anyway, the tunes on the album aren't quite as catchy as the previous ones but i think the lyrics this time round are fantastic, even though i can't read chinese that well! no one commented on how funny "Ti Tian" is yet? he says sthg like "Wen Shan, you're taking so long to write my songs, by the time u do, my new album will be done! so i'll hvae to write this song myself." and the chorus: "Oh my lovely cows" just cracked me up! i think he put that in just so at concerts he can make people sing "Wo qing ai de niu ah!"

i think the overall feel of the album is more mellow that 8D... no really heavy heavy numbers here, like "ban shou ren". can't wait to see the MVs... can aready imagine how they'll look for some songs

u know.. i think a lot of ppl agree that this album's got more of a rockish kinda feel to it...

this is a guess.. but could jay may have been inspired by Avril Lavgine?

hehe... long shot but who knows.. juz wanted to throw that question out haha.

yeah, this album is def. got more rock flavor to it, which isnt bad, i think jay is just want to try things out?? maybe? couple questions

for those who have the CD, who is the kid that raps in track #2? does the cd sleeve mention the kid? i dont think its the machi di di, i dont think his chinese is that good..but i can be wrong

track 4: i wonder if the headmaster is vincent or the same guy who was the customer in "iron box half island" from the last album <- this is the best song on this album imho

track 11: for chun li, did you hear the "haryuken" and "lighting kick" sound effect mixed in? lol...my friend actually have a record have all the street fighter effects on it...i need to buy that record.

once again, i still think the fantasy album is jay's best work!

the customer in Ban Dao Tie Ha was Jay...

really? interesting...thanks for the input.

Seiichi, yeah I heard the houryuken part, I loved it. That's my 2nd favorite song on the entire album. What did you think of the MV?

i really liked this album actually..esp of the fact that he'd put a lot more rock stuff in it ('shuang dao' has to be one of my favourite tracks...soundtrack material !)

'dong feng po' - it wasn't 'great' when i first heard it..but i know i'm going to fall in love with it after a few more listen

'ti tian' (trk 10) - the very first part of the lyrics was funny...teasing vincent fang...which was : <wen shan ah, deng ni xie wan ci, wo dou chu xia yi zhang zhuang ji loh> (vincent, by the time you finish writing the lyrics, i've probably released my next album !)....great song btw !

i love trk 8 'ta de jie mao' (her eyelashes)...very catchy..and happy tune (just like ye ye pao de cha)

love this album..a lot of variety and a lot more LOUD !!

p.s....i love that bonus vcd too...esp the behind the scenes stuff in rome..
he was really funny....(hey i was there in june !! )

Yeah this album is more alterna-rock and hip hop in terms of his rapping in most songs. But it's pretty fresh, altho it'll be tough for me to learn to sing these songs heh. It's good, but i think his past albums are better. Maybe i just gotta listen more...

Track 2 sounds like an Evanescence/Linkin Park kinda song...and who's the kid singing??

i really doubt it especially from the music i've heard of avril lavgine's, it's not that kind of style. it's possible that he may have been inspired by linkin park or a band close to that style, cus so many of us thought of linkin park after listening to his music.

Just a word of warning to those who are thinking whether of not it is worth the extra money for the "exclusive special edition of a classic Jay oil painting".

The answer is NO!

It's just a crappy reprint of the "oil painting" on some cheap cardboard!

Well, mine came free with it...so it doesn't really matter. :wink2:

I've been trying to get onto this site for the longest time. I was getting really upset ! Anyway, I've got my copy yesterday and yes, I agree with all who think the "oil painting" is crap. I was like "this is it ?!" Gawd. Give me a HUGE poster of Jay anytime, I say !

After listening to the album about 246,977,850 times, I must say I think it's awesome ! My current fav. is Track 3 - Qing Tian. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Qing Tian = Sunny Day ? I notice the translation on this thread is Cloudless Day ? Hm...or is my Chinese *that* bad ? I absolutely LURVE this track. As GaryDai mentioned, it really reminds me music by The Calling, the Goo Goo Dolls, etc. It's on permanent repeat mode. It didn't strike me at first but I read the lyrics and I was totally blown away. I wonder who inspired Jay to write those lyrics ? Maybe it was a girl who broke his heart

Love the song written by Vivian too - Track 9, Ai Qing Xuan Ya

Love the chorus of Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao. Somehow, it reminds me of an English song but the title escapes me.

Overall, I would give the album an 8/10 ! And this is from an unbiased point of view :)

i love this album!!! it's an absolute *wow* work of jay's!!

okie, got loads of comments on his songs (of course, they are all great):

1. yi fu zhi ming: has a really new, fresh thing bout this song, with the fat lady singing, and has this really european feel in it, sumthing that he has been using very often nowadays when he composes.

2. nuo fu: really rock feel, with the electric guitar. great that it's a song that's against drugs. drugs suck~ and the little kid (snoopy?), he's making an appearance again! not bad, that kid~

3. qing tian: a really relaxing song, with the incorporation of the electric guitar too, great song!

4. san nian er ban: really cute song, and it has lots of rythm. and i love the opening~ and the lyrics by wen shan are great also! one of the geerr--eeaatt song i would like to sooo recommend to those who are not jay fans.

5.dong feng bo: one of my favourite~ with the er hu and this r&b feel that so belongs to jay, it sounds great. and his voice - it flows along with the song so nicely. and the beat is just right.

6. ni ting de dao: really heavy r&b feel, and the beat gives it a really nice feel. and jay has such a voice for such a song. *wow*and the lyrics, they are soo sweet! and i love the rain at the end of the song!

7. tong yi zhong diao diao: it's a commercial song for pepsi rite? really love this song, and the title already sounds so diao. love it. and the starting has this really eastern feel, and it's so jay. and the rapping? sounds so rad! one of my fave too!( oh, and btw, when i saw the number of instruments used in the song, i thought it was more of a slow one, but hey~ it's fast and soo diao.

8. ta de jie mao : there's the guitar again! and the song sounds really diao at the beginning ,and breaks into a more radio-friendly chorus. hmm..not bad!

9. ai qing xuan ya : lyrics penned by vivian. sounds great, and there's the guitar yet again! and sounds really cool, esp when the 1st part sounds really slow, and then gets a little faster later on.

10. ti tian : wow~ i love the part with the aboriginals singing. one of my favourites! and the lyrics, esp at the start? haha.."wen shan ah.." cute!

11. shuang dao : wow, one of the wu xia style song! such stuff has really lots of things to compose bout, and i think that this song is diao!

okie, i've got lots more comments, but i think that i'm taking up lots of space already~

wow.. this album is quite astounding... he has grown SO much as artist... this cd basically eats 8D for breakfast...this is the album jay needed 2 make. he was at the crossroads after fantasy.. do i keep doing wat im doing and be asured commercial success? or do i venture deep within myself, n grow as an artist. with 8D, he was a bit tentative, do i stay put or go... but wid ye hui mei, its almost as if he doesnt care wat everyone thinks n jus explores da limits of his soul (ie instead of writing crowd pleasing pop he is delving into something much more substantial). after fantasy, 8D seemed a bit hollow.. seemed like he was going thru the motions, this tym he is so damn sure of his vision, its scary. he has taken chinese music to yet another level. u wont find an album more diverse more creative more inspired than this... ye hui mei is an artwork..

a proper (ie freekin long ass) monkee review will be up in 4 weeks (as well as fantasy)...

1st thought: Has Jay gone rock?
It seems quite afew songs have a rock feeling, and lesser slow ballads.

2nd thought: Jay mumbles even more this time.
If i didn't look at the lyrics, i'd really not know what he's singing.

3rd thought: European style?
Seems like only the 1st track has a European style.

4th thought: Dong Feng Po is awesome!
So traditionally chinese, yet so jay.

.
1001th thought: Shall examine the songs more closely before i post a review here. :excited:

I have something to comment abt Jay's new album, Ye Hui Mei.

There sure are changes in the album, but it was changes that i cannnot accept.I notice there's a lot of rock and roll on his songs, which never had before on his previous album. Is he trying to copy Shin or linkin park? Or is he running out of idea what instrument to use for his songs? He use to have a creative mind to mixed different instrument, from the chinese to the western, eg Shuai jie gun, which he did so with piano and the chinese er hu, and the songs sounds great. But now? Its not jus one songs, but many songs that used rock to make the music, in which I think He's not trying his best to produce quality music for his fans.

It is well known for jay not to sing his songs clearly. But on his fourth album, I think its getting from bad to worst. I know it was his stlye of doing it, but i think it has to gone to the limit. I can't follow him even with my lyics book. And his lycis was jumping over the place. I think his fourth album really turns mi off.

When i know that MJ can pre order his "special edition album", I was so excited that i pre order at the spot. But , what did i get? His normally album with a piece of crap, and that cost mi $6 extra. And his so called "special edition" was also sold to those who didnt pre order! I was expecting poster or somethin, but a piece of crap "oil" painting? Give mi a break.

Sorry to say this, but i was utterly disappointed with his fourth album. To think i wait so long for it, and paid $6 extra for it, and this is what i get. I think next time I WILL NOT pre order his album again.

i guessed many of us are really upset wif the paper frame tt comes wif the pre order, it is really not worth the $6 to my opinion too. i dunno y, i cant really accept the album this time round, i think it is because of the so may songs that has him mumbling instead of singing. Besides that i think, many of the songs are a bit fast for me, i oni liked to hear slower songs. i hioe that i will like it better after listening to it more times, so far oni heard 3 times. i barely have the time to listen to any radio and cd after i started work.

wow u paid an extra $6 ?? stop whining... its ur own fault for gettin suckered in by yesasia.com...

i totally disagree wid most of wat u said.. he's NOT trying to "copy" anyone.. sure there are alot guitars, but it seems quite obvious 2 me ur not quite aqcuanted with rock music so i guess this album wold turn u off. sure its guitar, but each track has a completly different style, there r so many genres, jus coz u heard one elctric guitar, doesnt make dem all da same. nuo fu and shuang do i more of an industrial, nu metal blend, cloudless day is reminiscent of british guitar pop such as teenage fanclub. he's running out of ideas for his instruments?? please... listen to fantasy, u listen to 8D he uses da same computerised guitar sound (think love bc, iron box, simple love) in most his songs...n it sounds great mind, but now jus coz he uses guitars in sum tracks u fink hes running out of ideas?? if anything hes expanding his musical vocubulary.. u den listen 2 yi fu zi ming, terraced fields, cloudless day, east wind breaking, u cant seriously tell me hes running out of ideas... surely if he actualli kept da same style, that wold b an indication of running out of ideas...but no ur definitly wrong

he is not tryin his best to produce quality music to his fans?? how utterly greedy of u to even suggest that he shold create music 2 suit u, or his fans. first and foremost an artist has to be true to himself, and therefore aim at improving himself and making his work more creativly substantial (ie it shold be a reflection of his growing maturity as an artist). music is an outlet for jay's own creativty and his inspiration at the time, and to comprimise that search to make his fans happy wold mean he is a sellout. u cant expect him to make an jing all his life, if he did, it wold mean he has not grown at all as an artist. music is only art if it is made wid the intention of furthering ones one creativity. i fink if he continued wat he did on fantasy and 8D, he wold not be true to himself nor his fans. jay made a brave move in this album in not opting to PLEASE all his fans (ie more ballads, more pop, more rnb), in fact i fink he gives his fans alot of credit in TRUStINg that they too will grow as he grows. where wold the beatles be if they made "she loves you" all their lives? where wold rad

iohead be if they made "creep" all their lives? where wold coldplay be if they made "yellow" all their lives. to stand still is to remain turgid and stale. if u cannot hear the maturity, profound depth of the lyrics and music, and the groundbreaking production then, well, i got no answers for u without being rude. the fact that u complain about the pronounciation means that u have entirely missed the point. his voice is meant to be anoda instrument yadadada.. ive said dis so many times, i cant bothered saying it anymore.. so if u dun like it go listen to wang lee hom, he'll neva stop writing luv songs and i herd he pronouces impeccabily.

Ye Hui Mei is such a deep and mature work, and its a huge step forward.. but if u dismiss it str8 away becoz it lacks the things that attracted u 2 jay in the first place, then u will neva truly see the beauty of it. ppl were wrong to label him as jus anoda rnb artist then and they are wrong now... as much as u wold like 2 fink of jay as a popstar, he is far from it, he will neva fit in to that image and his music reflects that, hes not gona keep on producing catchy pop treats, coz his maturity is reaching beyond dat. y du u fink he say "pi" and "chi sin" to all da reporters dese days? coz dey all ask him nonsense which is now utterly beneath him.. he has grown, and it sad u cannot accept.. nuff said

Why dun u see other ppl opinoin? I'm sure you'll find ppl the same opinion as mine!

Dun u find there's a great difference in his Ye Hui Mei and his Fantasy album? Ask around!

Though I realli like him as a singer, but i will not stuck up to him even how bad his songs is. Ppl need comments to improve, jus as I'm giving mine! I'm jus voicing out my thought. I did not ccritize you even if u think it's a good album, did i?

noticed that, there's no Jay album displaying on the shelves. So this is what they called, "Limited Edition?"

Actually there's 7 MV for this album. 以父之名, 東風破, 晴天, 雙刀, 同一種調調, 你聽得到 and 她的睫毛 .

But this so-called limited edition only have 以父之名, 雙刀 and The full version making of 以父之名.

So i believe there will be another one coming out... with the full MV version.

Looks like we gonna wait again. . . :sadangel:

plus, the booket is kinda empty too. very disappointed. from the video clip, he seems like he took alot photos. but where are they??

But.... all 11 songs are very very very diao !
Worth buying... but for those who haven't get their copies, i suggest you wait for the version with all the MVs. and perharps all those pictures he took went into that version. (just a guess) :?

to xian186 :

hmmm.... at the 1st time when i heard jay's ye hui mei. the truly 1st time, i dont like it either. ^_^
but when i hear a few more times, actually it doesnt sound so bad either.
maybe u need to hear more, then who knows u start to like it too.
most of my frens agree that when u hear jay's songs, u need to hear it millions of time then u will start to love his songs.

well, i do know that different ppl have different reviews abt this album.
but i agree with monkee that he did not composed music for us.
he composed for himself.
and he gotta change some of his styles or not ppl will get bored with his songs.
to me this time jay is little daring with this album.
but that little daring brings him to another higher level.
therefore is another breakthrough for jay.
it is a good thing though. ^___^*
trying something new is fun too. dont you think so?

maybe from this album he realised he does not suit this kind of rock style musics....who knows!!
hee hee ^_^ wahahhahahaha...just jk

try to think positively.... dont be too disappointed !!
i'm sure u support jay a lot, that's why you join this forum, right?

last time i used to have these kind of situations too.
but after reconsidering, keeping my thoughts positive
AND after reading all the members reviews abt the problem.
then i got a way out of the misery.... hee hee ^_^

i think i actually started to like track 3 - qing tian.
wahahhahahhahaha.... and diao jin xuan ya. :yeah:

Because all his rock music souds like the other band! Where has all his style gone to? do u find anything special in his rock song? I dun find anything special! Greedy u think I am? Why dun u see other ppl opinoin? I'm sure you'll find ppl the same opinion as mine!

I may not be a senior in this forum, but I realli find it rude to critize other ppl's opinon. If u think I am rude, take a look at your self at the mirror. I'm jus puttin up my view, That's what this form r for! I'm sure there's ppl who would like and dislike his fourth album! Haven u look at the news? actually jay had finish written his songs for this album jus after a while he release his 8D! What does that mean? Dun u find there's a great difference in his Ye Hui Mei and his Fantasy album? Ask around!

Though I realli like him as a singer, but i will not stuck up to him even how bad his songs is. Ppl need comments to improve, jus as I'm giving mine! I'm jus voicing out my thought. I did not ccritize you even if u think it's a good album, did i?

hahaha... i wold if i actualli had $6
luk im sorri, i shold have added a smiley wen i said dat remark about u "whining", it was jus a joke... :) i actualli found it quite funni that so any ppl got suckered into yesasia's "special edition" schemes... they always sounded a bit shifty 2 me... i was bein sarcastic iite? sori if i came across a an asshole

dearest xian, i am very sorri if my post was rude (cum 2 fink of it i kind of was) and i apologise if i offended u... wen i disagree wid sumfin, my first instinct is to attack wid all my mite. i wasnt criticising u, jus ur view of da album... n dats my opinion, n im entitled to share my opinion (just as u said) jus as u r entitled to say im toking crap...das wat da forum is all about, arguing and debating on different aspects n y we cum to the conclusions that we do. if u fink im toking crap den say it, i dun mind... im sorri if i offended u, but das also my opinion

about wat i said about fan's greed, it wasnt so much a personal attack directed at u (tho it seemed that way), so once again i apologise if u felt that way. it was more of an attack on ppl in general who demand that their artist stay the same. many artist conform to these wishes n neva truly grow, n now jay (in my opinion) has shown this growth, i feel a very angered weneva sum1 criticises him for it and expect him 2 conform and remain static. my dearest hope for any artist is to explore to the limits, their own creativity and neva to comprimise for anyone. i guess i wrongly assumed that u were criticising him for this, instead u hav made it quite clear that u dislike the album bcoz it just doesnt sit right wid u (and that is completly valid). i wanted to make dat comment for a long tym, but the oppurtunity neva came up, im sorri 4 makin u the scapegoat for my bitching. i noe alot of ppl will not like this album, ive read their comments, but i respected that. my comments were a reaction to wat i thoought (and i thought wrongly) were groundless remarks by sum1 who jus listened to the album and discarded it coz it sound nuffin like fantasy. but u hav made it clear this is not so... so i guess now i respect ur opinion in a way i had not dun so b4. u do not find anything special?? ok... well initially i read that as "i listened to the album once, it doesnt sound like wat i want, its crap", but it was wrong of me to assume u felt that way bcoz of this, instead of coming from ur own taste and opinion which is entirely valid

why not criticise me for my views? i wold

not find it rude if u did so.. actualli i find it quite boring that even if ppl disagree, that their too timid to relli expose their true feelings in fear of hurting others or causing conflict. i responded only to wat u said, why i disagree and gave evidence of wat i believed, it was somewhat heavy n i apologise for being too harsh, but isnt this the point of a forum? why not debate each odas comments? why not say "monkee, ur toking shit and this is why...", i dun believe i shold b timid in debating aspects of anything, and i dun believe u shold either.. but i guess i was 2 rude.. i apologise

i lack the manners, and the courtesy of most the oda members on dis forum, i fink i am one of the rudest wen it cums 2 makin ma view heard, but i guess i cum from an environment where ma thoughts have always had 2 be heard, n dun so strongly bcoz i wen i believe in sumfin, i do so fiercely..

im sorri once again for assuming things about u that r not tru then criticising u for it. i guess i was wrong dere. but i dun fink i was wrong in refuting ur comments, bcoz its my opinion..
owell... maybe u will grow to like the painting? Im sorri everyone for this long post, but i need to clear the air, i dun wish 2 make enemies

After listening to it 5-6 times already, I truly love everything Jay has to offer on this album. He is so creative and original in the uses of different sounds and styles. I loved his R&B sounds of the past, but I also totally enjoy his rock sounds. He transcends styles effortlessly. It just shows that he is an artist who can provide music I enjoy across genres. No need to go elsewhere, he has it all. He is the whole package.

I really appreciate the Asian flavour he throws into his music. It shows real pride in his heritage and that alone should be praised in an age where Chinese pop music is just so generic. I hope Westerners can be exposed to just creative music making.

To both monkee and xian > Thank you for making your opinions known. I pray you both never stop sharing your thoughts, ideas, opinions.

And I believe the advice of the day is, if you have an opinion, be prepared to defend it. :)

Well, I'm one of the people who got suckered into the poster thingy. Still waiting for it to get shipped. But I'll just insert that from what I have heard, I am actually quite pleased. Everything is different, and I really don't know what I'm going to expect from the 4th album. But from reading, it has a rock feel, which is good since I love rock. XD

Linny, i agree with you. Though there's been a lot of bickering in the forums lately, and practically fights at that, but i think that both of you stand firm on what you believe, which is good.

I haven't heard the album yet, which i had to muster up all my self control abilities i could, and i will probably be able to say my review for this album later. Anyhow, i have to admit that i was really slightly disappointed in it from some of the comments i heard, i'm a huge rock fan myself, but i'm still unsure whether it can somehow fit in 'right' with Jay.

But anyways, i cannot make any judgments of this album based on nothing, i am yet to experience this for myself, so anyways, i'm still eager for this album, and i hope that IF i do happen to come across disappointment, i can probably listen to it more and see it the way Monkee has.

lol......doesn't these arguements sound like some we had after the release of 8d. cuz i remember 8d got bad reviews nd all, i even thought of not buying it, but after a like 2 days, every1 was saying it rocked after they listened to it for a while. so i went and buoght it. i loved it after i listened to it for a while, its currently mai fav cd. i think every1's opinions will change bout this album in a few days. but some of us are juss mad cuz they got ripped off, i would too( who wants an oil painting ?).
btw....can some1 upload a pic of the oil painting, i wanna see exactly how bad it is.

not sure who the kid was but I thought it did a pretty good job! Didn't seem out of place at all.

the kid is a little girl called yu ni (?!).....remember the kid who sang on jolin's "prague square"....she's his sister !!

I thought it was a boy who was singing in track 2....i thought it was the same guy as Jolin's Square of Prague.... :glug:

Jay really improves in his singing!!! he seems bents on gettin best male singer for is changing of tune with his voice (zhuan yin), n not only composer awards.

my review:

1) Yi fu zi ming
uses a lot of different type of singing in one song, impressive!

2) Nuo Fu
v v metal rock! like the whole concept of the song, a very different jay song

3) Qing Tian
Ooohhh!!! muz be jay's best composed + lyricist song out of the 3.

4) san nian er ban
the ping pong sound is used so cleverly! like tat! plus xiao zhu's voice in it makes it so unique (anione noticed tat?)

5) dong feng po
*thumps up!* his voice changes so great (zhuan yin), esp the starting of the chorus. "shui zai you pi pa la zou yi qu dong feng po?"

6) ni ting de dao
nothing to say....sweeeeet luv song....
cant help repeatin it...

7) tong yi ge diao diao
jay's typical unique song. the chorus is so upbeating....lyrics great too...brings out the diao diao of jay

8) ta de jie mao
i'll never guessed that the melody of this song is so hard rock, i tot it'll be like ni ting de dao... diao!

9) ai qing xuan ya
sad song....

10) ti tian
jay takes a dig at fang wen shan lateness in handling his work...ha ha....

11) shuang dao
whoo! cool! v different from shuang jie gun, long quan.

Personal advice: I admit jay’s new album never ever sounds gd at first listen. Listen more…u’ll lurve it.

Some sidenotes: look into the credits at the booklet…. Stylist: “Shi Ren” Poet…seems like jay like this nick a lot.

i think whats good about this album is.. because its so different... now jay's songs are becoming more unpredictable... everybody expected songs similar to the past, but with better tunes...nobody expect this album to have such a rock-feel...
after a few months ppl will start wondering what type of songs will be on his next album... i like the fact that now his next album would be a complete surprise to me..

I think this album has really surpassed my expectations of jay. Riding on the successes of the previous three albums, all I can say is, Jay has done it again. Few artists can maintain a credible fourth album, as they usually fizzle out fast. Jay, however, proves with this release that he is going to be one of the most prolific artists of the generation. My personal favourites are "Qing Tian" and "Ni ting de dao". I loved the Shuang Dao MV, and yes, I agree that Track 2 sounds very LinkinPark (I'm a fan, so naturally I love that track). When I first listened to the album, I loved it immediately. I especially liked how he fused the erhu into some of the songs, and I find some songs in this album (like "Ai Qing XUan Ya") very melancholic. Overall, this has got to be one of Jay's BEST albums ever. Looking forward to his fifth already :D

i just bought the cd today, and i loved every song the first time i heard them! this shows that his new album is definitely a great piece of work, as previously, there were still jay some songs that i had to listen to many times before liking them...

btw, isnt the pic at the back of the cd just so nice? i love his side view... and he seems to like that ring alot, wearing it on almost every picture

Some doubts here.

1. Why did Jay called himself "Shi ren" Poet? I still don't get it. Or there's any news for it? :?

2. Is xiao zhu the guy in the PA system? (San nian er ban), i can't tell it's him. How you guys found out?

Lastly, i got to agree... you need to listen a few times before you like the album. Coz i guess it's becoz of his mumbling... really got to read the lyrics. Those lyrics he wrote, were really amazing. Especially, Ti tian and qing tian. Very well written. very impressive. 讚 !!

ok about the poet thing: it started wen jay wrote a song for ID (cant rem her full name).. n he wanted ppl 2 focus on her instead of the fact that he wrote the song (as always happens wen he pens a song 4 sum1).. so in da credits instead of puting zhou jie lun, he put shi ren istead.... geddit? but wat ended up happening was dat everyone found out, n even more focus was placed on da song dan wold hab been if jay put his real name down... 'doh!

i guess by putting shi ren in his cd sleeve (or so ive heard, da damn cd store always says ye hui mei will be in "2moro" , BUT IT NEVA IS!) its like a little joke between him n his fans

San nian er ban....
I actually thought tt voice was irritating....hahaz;)

excited!!! tat was wat i feel on my way to get his album... after listening a few times of his new album, i get to like some of his songs like qing tian, ni ting de dao, ni de jie mao and ai qing xuan ya... i think qing tian is a song which is kind of one of the easiest song to sing along... however, ni de jie mao, i feel tat the way he sings is like the way he sang david tao's zao zi ji in his the one concert.... hahaha not sure if anyone feels so... however, i was a bit disappointed over the gift for preorder...er i dun know wat to say.. anyway,.. i think tis album is very jay otherwise he wont call zhou jielun...and also the kind of music and style tat we can expect from him.... jay! good music.... keep it going!!!... me already looking forward to his next concert... wonder how will he present his new songs in wat kind of style or performance.....

after listening to the album non-stop the last few days i really must say i LOVE this album.. and i don't think i'm saying this just cos it's jay.. every song on this album is good.. there isn't a song that i actually was tempted to press skip.. (except maybe yi fu zhi ming cos i heard it a lot times already)

i really cannot contain my excitement over this album.. :excited: i love it so much i'm trying to stop myself from listening to it in case i get sick of the songs..

the only song i vaguely do not like is san nian er ban but that's cos i don't like the sound of ping pong balls (the sound somehow irritates me)

song by song review
1. yi fu zi ming 3.5/5
very european feel.. it's very different from all the other songs in the album really.. jay creatively uses all sorts of sounds to create a very serious mood.. even without watching the mv.. you can imagine the dark world of mafias, guns, violence, sin and the plea for forgiveness...

2. nuo fu 4.5/5
jay practically did everything on this song.. the lyrics, music, production and bian qu (edit the music) as everyone has said it has a very linkin park feel.. i could never imagine chinese sounding so cool with rock music.. this is very different from his previous sounds yet jay pulls of it off very nicely.. he sounds as though he was a rock singer a la linkin park all alone.. the lyrics are really kick ass too.. it's about drugs and how saying 'no' does not make you 'nuo fu' (a coward).. contrary to what some of you say i think the kid's voice makes this song sound even cooler... :D

3. qing tian 4.5/5
ok i really loved this song on the first listen.. the first part reminds me of some english song that i heard previously but i can't think of the name now.. but then comes the last bit where he does his classic jay rap (think an hao) that sounds so smooth.. i think this is where he has infused his own style into the song.. the lyrics are very pretty too.. talking about a very innocent love.. i only didn't like the ending cos it was too abrupt..

4. san nian er ban 3.5/5
ok i think jay is really creative with the ping pong sounds and the song lyrics are pretty interesting too.. as i said earlier i think i'm biased against this song cos i find the sound of ping pong balls irritating..

5. dong feng po 4.5/5
jay sounds really smooth on this track.. his voice effortlessly blends with the music.. and i love the sound of the erhu and pi pa.. the whole feel is so traditionally chinese and yet it sounds sooo good.... :bleh:

6. ni ting de dao 4.5/5
jay sounds so sweet on this song.. everything is so simple yet it's so nice.. i mean i kinda think the lyrics are a like cliche and musically there's nothing really special about this song.. yet my heart can't help but melt but i hear him sing it... ahhh

7. tong yi zhong diao diao 3.5/5
this song is very cool.. i haven't really analysed the lyrics yet.. but he has his own 'diao diao' by blending different sounds so nicely together.. another impressive jay work

8. ta de jie mao 4/5
the intro sounds pretty cool.. nice cool band mucis with the guitar and drums... and i love the way he sings in the beginning.. a bit like david tao.. yet i still know it's jay in the middle.. i must say i never heard such songs prior to this and yet he sounds so good.. like he was meant to sing this sorta songs.. show he's very versatile

9.ai qing xuan ya 4/5
the beginning reminds me another english song i've heard before( yet again a title escapes me).. it starts of slow.. and picks up so nicely in the middle.. ok i think the lyrics are a little cheesy for vivian's usual standards..

10. Ti Tian 4.5/5
to be honest this song didn't catch me inititally.. i just thought the tune very interesting.. but that was until i read the lyrics.. and i'm very impressed by it.. and realised the idea that jay was trying to convey.. he s

tarts off very cute with the 'wen shan ah..' bit.. but later he begins talking about how the terraced fields have disappeared due to redevelopment.. it's an interesting theme and the way he writes the lyrics feels as though he is talking to you about how he feels helpless about this phenomenon happening.. very nice.. this is also another song in which he does almost everything.. including playing the piano!!

11. Shuang Dao 4/5
this song apparently talks about the oppression the chinese people in chinatown face.. haven't really looked at the lyrics properly yet.. but overall this song sounds good.. like right out of a movie soundtrack.. (for this mv jay indeed did a sort of mini-movie) very cool though i must say the sword fighting sounds in the middle sounds a bit cheesy.. (as mike i think has said)

overall: 9/10

conclusion: this is an absolute must-buy... you'll really be missing out a lot if you do not have this album.. esp if you're a jay fan.. jay is indeed a musical genius.. not just in compositions but vocally as well.. hear jay like you've never heard him before..

I like the album..though i must say i ahd to listen to if few times to fully take in..

I LOVE the ping ong sound effects so kewl... and yeh i ove that song! san nian er ban ...its da bomb..

what i do miss is the VERY hip hop feel i got from the previus albums... B$ i felt some of the tunes in jay's 3d sounded very hip hop RnB western.... like something off usher or craig david.. i didnt reallyu get this feel this time...

i need to re -listen again..

but overall i LOVE it..

I LOVE jay... so anything goes! heheheeh (though i have trouble with track 2....but hey i didnt like nunchuks and dragon fist wen i fisrt heard them...BUT i grew to like them..and nunchucks is one of my faves...SO maybe track 2 will grow on me =))

ya, the composer for ID Power's Girl Power is by Shi Ren, then he also admitted it's his nick. coz he mentioned something like he hopes pple will focus more on You Ai Di and not on him as the composer, therefore not puttins his full name down.

As for San Nian Er Ban, the 2nd sound in the PA saying bout wanting to praise someone in the school is definitely Xiao Zhu. It's his voice. but the first one calling out jay's name to go to the discipline office, i'm not sure it's who? i've guessed NoNo.

Dear monkee..

I muz apologise to u too, for being rude to you. Though disapointed, but then I find your view is right. A artist have to make changes so as to improve himself. Now I'm trying to adopt to his new songs too. After listening for some days, I think I like his track 3,5,6 the most. Finally got my cd today...only want to comment after i hear the cd (even though i got the mp3 2 days ago)

song by song...

1. Yi Fu Zhi Ming
normally i don't like the zhu da ge of his albums...this time no exception...haha

2. Nuo Fu
first listen, find it noisy. then compare it with a Linkin Park song and realise it's so much softer...haha... so now i tink it's not loud enuff... and oh, the kid... how can we forget her? but then, we can forget about her cos not much contribution to the song... oh, jie lun did great for the lyrics...

3. Qing Tian
my fav. track. first thought was it sound very "Travis"... (travis is a british band btw) very british feeling... i like. lyrics his usual style...

4. San Nian Er Ban
as i have mentioned in the prev thread about the discussion of this song, read in a particular past issue of i-weekly, he wanted to write a song on ping pong cos he like the sound of the ball bouncing... overall song very cute... esp when xiao zhu's voice come out in the middle... can imagine his face when sayin it... haha

5. Dong Feng Po
almost everyone's fav track, still don't really understand why...haha but listen until the end will get goosebumps as in, not tt kind of yucky goosebumps but more of the kind of goosebumps when u hear Clay Aiken's magical voice...

6. Ni Ting De Dao
a kind of song that sounds like he can anyhow churn out during concerts... even his singing sounds very "concert" (eg. the humming of lyrics at 1 part)

7. Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao
8. Ta De Jie Mao
two of the more hard-to-remember-the-melody songs... but comparitively, if ask me to kick out 1 song out of the album so as to retain the tradition of his usual 10 songs, i will choose track 8. no offence, just that after listening for so many times, still no impression...

9. Ai Qing Xuan Ya
moody song...Coldplay style... why vivian's lyrics suddenly so sad...

10. Ti Tian
music arrangement very "soundtrack"...shiok...den lyrics very good oso... my fren say like John Mayer's style... continuous flow of lyrics... dun tink he will be singin it live anywhere huh... haha... even i dun feel like memorisin these lyrics

11. Shuang Dao
like the way that it is loud... just wondering which weapon he will write abt next?

glad to see that he's more involved in the music arrangement... disappeared frm the job in Fanasty and 8D... glad to see his lyric writing improved alot... this album will keep me company for a year like how Fanasty did...

hey i noticed that too!! and i thot i was the only one who'd squint at every little thing on his CD! so it is Jay? cos i remembered him using this nick when he wrote a song for someone... so wat does he do as a stylist? choose his own clothes??

hey, i couldn't find it before, but when i really read the back credits thing, i finally found it, his 'shi ren' name...hm..interesting! ^^;;

well, i've bought the cd, but i'm still having mixed feelings about it, i need to listen more to it before i can make a proper rating or judgment for the album, i'll write up a longer review when i get the time later and when i feel that i can be capable of it.

i dunno if i was the onli one out there (becoz i can't be bothered to go through 10 pgs of replies), but all i can say is that i'm actually kinda dissapointed with this album. i'll admit, there are some pretty good songs on the album, but there are also songs on it which i really don't like. now i'm not sure if i should consider to buy his next album, becoz it seems to me he's music is going down. i dun think he'll eva release an album as good as fantasy again.

rating for this album proly a 3.5 outta 5

i gotta say i absolutely luv the second track!!! i was totally sprung, becoz i never thought that he'd release a song like that!!

just bought jay's 4th album at tower records this afternoon and i've listened to the whole cd. here's my review of it ^_^ ...

Rating: 9/10

Comparison w/ Past Albums:
This album is so much more different and unique from his first one, Fantasy and 8 Dimensions. On the Jay album, he uses a lot of Pop. In Fantasy, lots of Rap & R&B. In 8 Dimensions, same as Fantasy. But on this album, it's more on Rock and I hear more flute instruments unlike his usual instruments, the piano, guitar and cello.

My Favorite Songs:
03. Cloudless Day (Qing Tian) - A soothing rock feel guitar song. Reminds me of Starry Mood and Return to the Past.
06. You Can Hear (Ni Ting De Dao) - Very romantic.
08. Her Eyelashes (Ta De Jie Mao) - A live and happy, upbeat song.
09. Love's Cliff (Ai Qing Xuan Ya) - Sad but sweet..
11. Jay Chou - Double Knives (Shuang Dao) - A song to rock on!!

Best Feature:
The Double Knives MV on the VCD!! Was that really Jay doing the sword fighting and stick twirling?? Who says he can't do a movie w/ Jet Li?? Coz with skills like that, he could get into an action movie and I mean seriously, man!! He moves with such grace and finesse!! And finally, he's so CUTE when he speaks english!! Oh it makes me cringe. >_<

Coz with skills like that, he could get into an action movie and I mean seriously, man!! He moves with such grace and finesse!! And finally, he's so CUTE when he speaks english!! Oh it makes me cringe. >_<

nah...for those dangerous moves, he got a double to do them.....he was even quite embarassed to let everyone know.... :)

ok, I actually like the album from the first time i listen.....they give me the feeling like songs frm movies.....the fast songs are kinda heavy but very unique, like 3rd year 2nd class..

from the slow songs, i realise that jay has matured a lot...no more cutesy songs like xing qing, jian dan ai or an hao.....the love songs he sings now are deeper and more emotional....leave bitter and romantic feelings to listeners....esp dong feng po( reminds me of 'xiao qian', the love story between a human and ghost)....and vivian hsu proves to be talented with the deep lyrics of ai qing xuan ya....

the only song i don't quite understand is track7 'tong yi zhong diao diao'??? weird name.....

overall....i think jay has change his style somewhat....even though he says he will continue the same from his previous albums....his new songs are more abstract and leave a 'richer' feeling....he really puts in lots of efforts.....and the results are truly impressive..... :wink2:

everyone's saying that this album has a different flavour than his earlier ones and i have to agree...it's much darker, jay sounds much much more mature and i kinda like it.... i think he's really comfortable with the process of his music evolving, which is why ye hui mei is sometimes a little awkward to hear- because his music is still evolving and he's still experimenting with stuff...and that's a good thing, right?

Yes, this album does seem to be quite different from his old albums. It sort of surprised me at first, but after listening to it a couple more times, I do agres that he has a more matured sound. I know many people think Fantasy was his best album, and I admit it's a great album too, but somehow Fantasy seemed a bit bland to me, or maybe the songs seemed a bit similar. His more recent albums seems more daring and experimental, with all these different genres of music. As quick as people are to put Jay into a category of music, he seems to have been able to bring in all different styles of music, making him to be what is a true artist not just a musician and a singer.

While this album is still too fresh for me to say much (any new music from him is completely exciting haha), I find as I listen to it more I just enjoy it more. This is an album I think needs to be given a chance, time and patience. Some may like it at first, other may take more persistence, but in the end, I think if you just listen to it more, it becomes that much more endearing.

The MVs this time were quite cool. "In the Name of the Father" is a pretty interesting take on the themes from Godfather... seemed a bit interesting to see Jay as a mobster haha. And "Double Blade" was like a little movie haha... He's got some potential haha ^_^. Our talented little Jay.

this album is definitely in a category of it's own! because it's jay, you can't exactly place a label on what type of music is found in the cd~ there's a wide range of variety and i do agree that the type of songs portray the artists ability [almost as a persona] the maturity in song composition and lyrics reflect on jay's ability as a growing artist.

at first i only liked a few songs [ni ting de dao, dong feng po, and yi fu zhi ming] i mean, isnt it like that everytime someone buys a cd?? well like i said i wasnt going crazy over every single song but then again you gotta experience everything that the artist offers and i really think that after listening to the songs a few times, the beat and everything will gradually entice you to keep listening to the rest of his cd!

im sure everyone had high expections [myself included] but actually the different genres of music is a nice change from the ordinary~hehe and im sure jay is one of the few artists that can pull this off so easily!~

well, i think that his style has changed quite a bit... this album, the first time i listened to it gave me a feeling that rock has dominated e whole album. n somehow (not a very pleasing comment though) some of the songs reminds me of others' songs like wad jay said (other pple's shadow)... maybe because jay's not very experienced at arranging songs yet... wad do u all think? anyway i still think that he has done a great job... keep it up jay!

I LOVE this album. Ive been listening to it for the past few days on repeat. All the songs have so much character to it, and Jay's lyrics are definitely much better than in previous albums. Overall, this album definitely departs from Jay's usually rnb/hiphop style, even tho u still see elements of it in some songs. Like everyone has already said, it's def Jay dabbling in rock, as well as old-school oriental music, european themes, and even native Taiwanese tribal music (Track 10). i think its great that he's not sticking to tried and tested formulas and branching out in his own direction. Go Jay!!

Enuf has been written abt Yi Fu Zhi Ming.
Track 2, Nuo Fu (weak man) is about not succumbing to drugs. Jay wrote the soulful lyrics that presents visually strong images - "a white man's brown hair fell down in front of me... saw myself shaking/trembling in his eyes".. LOVE yelling along to the song!!
Track 3 Qing Tian (sunny day) is my FAVORITE!! Lyrics and musical arrangement by Jay too. It really touches my heart, esp the line "long ago, someone loved you for a long time, but the wind slowly blew you apart".. ok those who can read mandarin will know what i mean. its so beautiful. Cold Play style.
Track 4 San Nian E Ban (Class 3/2) is my least favorite. Too many sound effects, makes it too contrived.
Track 5 Dong Feng Po is an old-style, oriental music with traditional chinese instrument Er-hu playing melodiously in the background. Its a simple, yet moving piece, reads like a poetry, thanks to Vincent Fang.
Track 6 Ni Ting De Dao (You can Hear) is a typical love song that will score with most pple. But to me, it's one of the less imaginative songs on this album. Jay probably needs one of these 'safe' songs that general public would like, along with the other more experimental tracks.
Track 7 Tong Yi Ge Diao Diao (Same wavelength) is the latest pepsi commercial song. I like it, quick catchy tempo. it's about how two person do not have to know each other very well in order to share the same views, interests, etc. Prob relates to how him and Yao Ming in the commercial both love Pepsi even tho they dont know each other that well.. =)
Track 8 Ta De Jie Mao (her eyelashes) is a pretty fast, rock-pop style song despite the title. Jay attempts a different way of singing / enunciating the lyrics, really cool! Cheeky lyrics by Vincent Fang, "Depending on fate is unreliable, we must actively look for the one we love. Her pretty n delicate appearance resembles a juicy peach, everyone yearns to take a bite..."
Track 9 Ai Qing Xuan Ya (the cliff of love) has Vivian Hsu describing love as falling down a cliff, not being able to climb out; falling too fast and being uncontrollable.. heart-wrenching melody.. n I love the beginning, n lyrics are simple yet very real. This is probably my 3rd favorite after Track 3 and 1.
Track 10 Di Tian is a tongue-in-cheek take on the degradation of our natural environment by human activity. The beginning lyrics by Jay is super cute, "Wen Shan (Vincent Fang)... if i wait for you to complete writing my lyrics, i would've finished producing the next album.. it's okay, take your time, I'll do it myself for this song..." The melody of the song is distinctly aboriginal, like native Taiwanese tribal music, ties in with the theme about conserving nature. It sounds very un-jay, but then again, it's very like jay to come up with something totally unexpected like this!
Shuang Dao (Double Blade) is a continuation of Jay's love affair with kung fu. After nunchaks and dragon fist, Shuang Dao has a tough act to follow. I'd say it follows the rock style of this album in general, much harder to sing to than nunchaks. Check out the MV that comes with the CD!! He's soooo adorable in it... esp when he hugs the booby white chick.. so shy!!

Whoaa... finally I can review the CD, after on page 11. Screw those who don’t like the album. I found the album is SPLENDID! Sure, it's nothing like Fantasy.... but don't u guys excited to see how Jay could make different kind of music and still real nice to listen to.

Okay... the way I review his Ye Hui Mei is not by setting up the Fantasy or 8D standard. I listen to this album, as if I don't know who sing it and think of it as just an album from some other singer. Therefore... I can be more objective in viewing. And the result.... I LOVEEEEE THIS ALBUM THE BEST!!!! Jay is really growing in taste and in his composing. Aside from his Fantasy.... the arrangements of the music, the choice of instruments, and the tunes and the beats, the way he sings.... they're all improved!!! OMG... I think it's splendid indeed!!!

Track 1: Yi Fu Zhi Ming
Rate: 5/5
Short review : It's simple RnB with a touch of slow rap and has Italian's flavor. Gives you the cinematic old church atmosphere when hearing the song. Loves the intro, drives you in to the classical mafia world.

Track 2 : Nou Fu
Rate: 4.5/5
SR: Have to hear more than once to accept it.... since it's a huge change from his usual simple RnB. It's kinda hard-rock.... Linkin Park/Evanessence style. But the rap from the kids gives the sense of innocent kind of rock. Doesn't give you the "outrage/burst of anger" image kind of rock.

Track 3 : Qing Tian
Rate : 5/5
SR : I love this song. The style is slow rock with strums of the guitar..., and I would say it really gives the new breeze of Jay’s music. It somehow reminds me of his Secret Signal, but instead of a harp-sound guitar, he uses electric guitar. Instead of using RnB beats, he uses slow-rock rhythm. The melody is soothing and his voice is so darn good. Fits with the character of the song, soothing and mellow. And not to mention the lyric which is sweet and beautiful and penned by himself.

Track 4 : San Nian Er Ban
Rate : 4.5/5
SR : The style is very Jayish. RnB with smooth relaxing feeling. It has a lot of sound effects that is very creatively implemented. With the effortless sound of his rap in the beginning, he put the song also into a low key.... that brings the song into very restful atmosphere.

Track 5 : Dong Feng Po
Rate : 5/5
SR : It sounds very traditional Chinese song. The sweet pop that really easy to listen and enjoy. It gives you an imagination... as if you are in the garden full of blooming flowers, watching a beautiful Chinese lady playing the harp. It has a very beautiful melody and the traditional instruments sounds intermingling one another. Very beautiful.

Track 6 : Ni Ting de Dao
Rate : 5/5
SR : The soft RnB that once again brings back the memory of Secret Signal and Hui Dao Guo Qu. But the rhythm is even slower than both. And once again the sounds of instruments that he put neatly sound great. I heard this song before (The live version), and didn’t really like it since I couldn’t hear the music. But when I heard the music.... OMG, it’s totally different feeling. With the background of falling rain.... sounded like a sad love song that sounds sweet.

Track 7 : Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao
Rate : 5.5/5
SR : The song started with a very catchy intro. This is one of my favorite song. The rhythm sounds like mixed hip hop and rap to me.... mixed with European ambiance... especially with the sound of the tap dancing as the bridge. Gives you the cinematic experience with the violin sound in the background. It’s beautiful composition!

Track 8 : Ta de Jie Mao
Rate : 5/5
SR : It sounds like an alternative ballad, just like Weenz put it. But instead of singing it mellowy... he sings the beginning with the “lazy” style. And the chorus once again is very nice. Even though I don’t like rock song in particular... but the melody that he composes is really good. Therefore... it

forces me to enjoy the sweet melody. And he still keeps that rap part at the end.

Track 9 : Ai Qing Xuan Ya
Rate : 5/5
SR : The intro gives a perfect emotion of the song. Sounded very painful as his voice kinda lacerates elucidating a tearing wound that he experiences. And the chorus... sounds like Rui En’s “Ai Qing de Bu Zuo Yong.”. Very sad tone as it’s expressed by the lyric. The rhythm is slow rock.

Track 10 : Ti Tian
Rate : 4.75/5
SR : Another slow RnB that Jay created. With his smooth rap in the beginning and swarms of voices and instruments in the chorus, it sounded very introvert as if it has its own world. Gives you the feeling of secluded area... like in the middle of rice fields where the plants are all tall, yellow, and covers your vision. Gives you an American Indian feeling to it also.

Track 11: Shuang Dao
Rate: 5/5
SR : A feeling of martial arts temple in the beginning cut with a smashing guitar sound.... break traditional atmosphere with a catchy rock beats. Sounded like the mix of traditional and modern martial art. It’s very slick, and the melody goes along with the feeling of a fighting scene. He uses lower scale this time (compared to his other martial art songs). It gives the sense of maturity and appeal to its heroic experience.

Overall I give this album 4.95/5. If only I don't have to count my score in general, I'll give this album 5/5. I rate the music composition in general. It’s dazzling, very creative and each songs gives you different feeling. So this album comprises a lot of music style which sounded very stimulating. This album has to win GMA, or I should call the judges dumbass.

Obviously it is very different. Quite a few new styles ..... not much of a ballard album .... a lot of drums used. Reminds me of semi- rock/ a lil pop/ RnB. Actually i prefer his previous albums coz of his blues songs ...

ok... after listening mulitple times, i basically share everyone's opinion about each track. i love the rock and it's so awesome that he sounds like linkin park in track #2. i love linkin park. and the little girl is so cute!! i wouldn't be surprise if she and her brother (who rapped on jolin's album) become artists in the future.

tracks 3, 8 and 9 remind me of one of mayday's songs. and track #10 is just amazing. i love the tribal sound. track #11 makes me want to jump into a mosh pit.

his singing is a lot more clearer compared to his other albums.... i'm just dumbfounded. this cd really exceeded my expectations. Truly, all the songs in this album are manifested in so many complex layers. i love his fusion of east-west musical theories and tones. His choice of sophisticated and mature themes/lyrics are so daring. even his voice sounds so different. had i heard track 8 or 9 for example playing in a restaurant, i would have never guessed it would be him.

for all those who didn't really like his album, the more spins the better it sounds!! i think perhaps a lot of people really thought this album would be quite similar to his other 3 but for me, after listening to yi fu zhi ming when it was first broadcasted, i prepared myself for the unexpected. i just knew it would be a completely different sound. and that's what i got.

i just wonder, how does jay do it???? how will he surpass this???
and the use of ping-pong balls in track 3 is just diao to me!! i know that sounds stupid but it just is.

Honestly, I din expect he wld compose hard/soft rock stuff coz afterall he is an RnB prince! Is he following David's style? Anyways, this has prove me wrong that he actually can change his style and do other stuff other than rapping and RnB!! I might grow to like the rock songs. :yeah: I like the little girl's rapping.

What surprises me is his music arrangement and composing! :excited: His typical RnB music is not so prominent in this album. The use of different instruments..piano..violin..cello..guitars.. er hu..and even ping pong!! I like San Nian Er Ban..so it was Xiao Zhu over the PA system. I like Ti Tian especially the lyrics!! so funny at the beginning and full of sarcasm..i love the rapping!!

Qing Tian, Ai Qing Xuan Ya and Ta De Jie Mao sounds like May Day with guitars. A fresh feeling from Jay! Overall, it's good when u get to listen more! :)

i'm not a music critic and i can't even read musical scores or play an instrument, unless you count the tambourine! :bleh: so i don't think i'd call what i'm about to type "a review", rather my own opinion on the album.

like some ppl here, i honesty didn't like what i was hearing when i listened to the album for the first time. i wasn't expecting to find the same styles and music in his previous albums, but at the same time, i thought i'd fall right in love with the album just as i'd had with fantasy and 8D.

i'd already heard YFZM so no surprises there. i've actually come to really like that song. it's different but not in the sense of being weird or over the top diff. i'd never heard track 2 b4 but have read some pplz comments about it here so i was expecting the rock style. i'm not into the rock genre, unless you count avril.... :? personally, the song is ok, maybe coz i don't know how to appreciate rock music. however i felt that the girl's part got a bit annoying. her part in the song was too long, i think anywayz.

track 3, qing tian, didn't stand out as anything great at the first hearing. to me, kai bu liao kou, jian dan ai, an jing, etc, are better ballads as they "stood out" for me. there didn't seem to be anything special about qing tian, BUT, after a couple of hearings, it has admittedly grown on me.
the words and the music have left more of an impression on me after getting to know it more.

track 4, san nian er ban, downloaded so heard it b4. i pretty much liked this track from first hearing. i esp like the chorus. i'm just a sucker for the "call and reply" thing like in long quan. :D :yeah:

track 5, dong feng po, very oriental, a cool contrast with the other more "western" tracks. i like!! it sounds very soothing! hehe, the only way i can describe it! esp since J's voice is so relaxing and with the use of the asian instruments, it's so diff from the rest of the album with their synthesizers, electric guitars and basses!

track 6, ni ting de dao, most ppl love this song, but i must be honest, i find it kinda boring. the rhythm is the same throughout the verse and the chorus doesn't stand out in anyway. when i first listened to it, i was hoping for at least a good chorus, but when it got there, nothing much happened.

track 7, tong yi zhong diao diao. this is one song that i have overlooked during all the hearings....no comments.

track 8, ta de jie mao, the style of this track reminds me of dave tao and lee hom mixed together. his pronounciation of the words is very diff and sounds very lee hom. again something diff from J and i like it.

track 9, ai qing xuan ya, the only track that really caught my attention at first hearing. i love this song, maybe coz i'm also a sucker for orchestrals. the instruments worked really well in bringing out the emotion and climax of this piece. J's work with his falsetto voice is great, such smooth transitions! a classic sad song which has sorta become a trademark of J's.

track 10, ti tian, another song which i hope will grow on me....

track 11, shuang dao, to me this sounded like a brother of nunchakus, another martial arts-like song, but more rock. haven't had the time to watch the mv yet but i can just imagine J wielding blades and swords. i like it for now but will prolly like it more later. although i felt the sound effects occured more often than necessary.

i think i didn't like the album as much as i thought i would after first hearing coz i was expecting too much. as i listened i could conciously hear myself thinking "the next track! i bet the 'great song' will be the next one!" so basically i was looking for something to like which was prolly wrong.
i like it much more now than i did first time through. but, generally i've found that songs which take time to grow on me, i end up liking them more than the songs i like first off! :D
overall, i still

like fantasy and 8D more, but who knows, opinions do change! i'm just glad for fresh J stuff to listen to!

Dear sssssandyyyyy, note that the title of the thread says "Review Jay's 4th album (Ye Hui Mei)", not "Which is your favourite album of Jay's"? You may like to proceed to the "Polls" section of the forums, I'm sure there's a thread asking for your favourite Jay album, if you look hard enough. It would be greatly appreciated if you could post relevant posts in the appropriate thread, thank you for your attention.

just got my cd today . just a quick review - watched the vcd first and then lsitened to the cd . found that yi fu zi ming sound even better with the cd - the visuals compliment the singing - feels like the song is specially written for the mv. but the mv of double blade is very distracting to the song . cannot listen to the song while watching the mv . when lsitening to the cd - i can visualise the story of the song better and it sounds great - there's a feel of wide plains and horsemen - not like the claustrophobic fighting scene as in the mv.
the other songs , need to like more to reveiw.

First of all, this :rasp: is for all those who reviewed and made me think the album was FULL of metal stuff, bcos I hate loud music. But it's just alternative music, not really HEAVY metal. And that's just Track #2.

So I'm now going to talk about the tracks that I love most.

Dong Feng Bo - is just lovely..with all those Chinese instruments (er wu?). Can't comment on the lyrics cos I don't read Chinese but the melody is so enchanting. Made me want to weep and smile, like I'm in a romantic affair.

Ning Ting De Tao - the way the song starts reminds me so much of Brian McKnight or BoyZ II Men and all those Kings of R&B. I have a feeling this is kinda sad and it's really soulful.

Ta De Jie Mao - This is a surprise!! So un-Jay! Feel like this is very rubbed off by contemporary Western tempo. Don't know why but I just get breathless when I hear this one. And if I heard it from the radio for the first time, I wouldn't know it was Jay. he sounded so different!!

WARNING - GRIPES AHEAD

#1 Is it just me? What is SONY trying to do ? That seduction of postcards and oil paintings isn't going well with me. It's a lousy, cheap trick and I don't like it. If it wasn't Jay, I would be boycotting the artiste forever.

#2 I wish Tracks #5 and #6 weren't placed next to the other. Two slow songs in a row... kinda.... well... I just wish they weren't.

#3 I was hoping that Jay would sing like he did in Black Humour and Silence - that powerful, strong and full of emotions voice. But in most of the songs this time, he sings in a very relaxed manner, like he was just rehearsing. Don't get mad at me, you guys. But some parts could certainly sound better without falling into falsetto. (like Ni Ting De Tao's chorus)

Okay, yah. I have serious issues with this as well. I'm not sure whether to blame Yeasia.com or Sony, but one of these two are really lousy for this particular promotional ploy. It would have been much better to just sell the album without any special limited edition items at a set price. Bet they'll lose profits if they continue doing this.

I couldn't agree more with you. I miss that voice too... the one that was full of passion and emotion. I guess I just don't like how controlled his voice is at times... A lot of the appeal of Jay's music is you can hear what he's trying to tell you in his voice. It's that ability to show his emotions when he sings that made me love him when I first listened to him...

i totally agree.. come to think of it i would be really pissed off if the artiste wasn't jay.. i paid an extra 6 bucks for a lousy piece of cardboard and a bigger cd case.. i heard the lyrics book is different but i dunno how different it really is.. got to check that out.. i think i was too excited the last few days over his new album to really think about this.. i mean the truth is i wouldn't mind paying more for jay's cds anytime cos they're worth it.. but the fact that they released a special edition in the pre-order which really isn't very different from the regular version pisses me off.. they should at least have given a decent poster.. they are obviously trying to suck money out of us consumers.. the jay fans in s'pore wanted to complain to the consumer association but they were afraid cos it might deter jay from coming to singapore.. anyway thank goodness the album was good and just for the songs alone it was worth the money..

Alright I've give my honest opinion about the songs I have listened to so far (1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

#1 - In the Name of the Father 4/5
This song took me a while to get used to. The first listen, I thought it was beyond weird. The lady in the beginning screeching could have been cut out because I just found that annoying. Anyway, a couple more listens later and I found that I really liked the beat, it just made me want to nod my head in attempt to break out in dance.

#2 - Coward 4/5
This song reminded me Linkin' Park. Personally I like this song a lot more than Jay's other "hardcore" rock songs. The only thing I didn't like was the weird tone in the girl's voice when she was rapping (heard she was Snoopy's older sister? Cute!). But after a couple listens, it grew on me and added new attitude to the song.

#5 - East Wind Breaks 4/5
The first listen I thought it was boring.. not too special. Then.. it hooks on you. The beautiful melody just takes you into its mellowness and basically after a while you're completely entranced. Next.

#6 - You Can Hear 3.5/5
A very pretty R&B song, however very normal and nothing out of the ordinary. Would probably be listed in one of Jay's classics along with "Silence" and "Speechless".

#7 - Good Old Days 3.5/5
Funky beat and rythmn, I just never really caught on to the song. It was one of those cool ones that just go right over my head. Nothing too special, yet still too good of a song to just put in the category of bad.

#9 - Love Cliff 5/5
My favorite song of the album so far. The tune is very melancholy and Jay sings with a lot of emotion here. Lyrics are very pretty too (written by Vivian Hsu). I've just been giving this song continous listens and love it!

#10 - Terraced Fields 4.5/5
Another really great song, I just love the beat and intro of the song. Only the chorus, as cool as it is, kind of made me feel like I was going to some tribal ritual where they sacrificed a pig or something. Other than that I would say this is an awesome song.

I'll review more later.. hope this was found useful by certain uncertain new Jay fans! =)

I was hoping that Jay would sing like he did in Black Humour and Silence - that powerful, strong and full of emotions voice. But in most of the songs this time, he sings in a very relaxed manner, like he was just rehearsing.

I can't comment on all the songs, but having listened to "Qing Tian" (track 3) about a million times on repeat mode (close to ruining my cd), I have to disagree with what you wrote. I personally thought he sounded really emotional when he sang this song. Especially the part where he asks how long before he can be beside the girl and how he might feel better if it's a clear day. Turn it up loud and listen to it.

I have to add that I really love this song because I'm actually in a pretty similar situation (boyfriend overseas, don't know when I'll ever see him again) and I have to admit that this song has made me cry many times.

Hi guys..
This is the Straits Times(Singapore's newspaper) review of Ye Hui Mei..I got this from the yahoo groups..and the members were way mad!! Take a look...

^Also putting out his first album on a new label is Taiwan's Jay Chou.
Out since last Thursday, his Yeh Hui-Mei on Sony is practically sold
out at most outlets islandwide, with 25,000 copies snapped up in a
mere five days.

Sales aside, his latest output is somewhat disappointing.

More, as they say, is less, so the computer game- and manga-inspired
imagery and sound samples, which also characterised his past three
albums, are starting to sound yawningly predictable.

While some critics say Chou is at his most experimental to date,
others feel that Yeh Hui-Mei is his least distinctive work yet.

A break may be what the boy wonder of Chinese R&B needs to regain his
originality.

After all, the world does not need an Asian version of Linkin Park,
whose influence is evident on rap-rock numbers Coward and Double
Sabre.

Nor should it give Chou any credit for attempting radio-friendly,
adult-oriented rock on Clear Day and Her Eyelashes.

And is it too much to ask him to steer clear of his mumbly David Tao
mimicry, most audible on You Can Hear and Cliff Of Love? While Chou
went home empty-handed after last Saturday's Golden Melody Awards in
Taipei, eVonne Hsu walked away with the Best Newcomer prize. ^

Peace Out..

i feel very sad that i do not like most tracks on jay's album...i desperately want to but none of the melodies constantly haunt my mind (as the melodies of his old songs did)
i hope that after a while the album will grow on me, cuz i know jay spent a lot of time writing these songs...

i love jay

hi everyone! just got jay's cd! hrmmm...the songs are quite interesting and unique..i will give the individual evaluation..then an overall one. At first, I didn't like the song, but after a while it grew on me!

1. Yi Fu Zhi Ming (In the Name of the Father)
4.8/5 I really like this song although it has been a bit over played since it was the song that was first released and the screaming is a bit annoying to me in the beginning, but the song is wonderfully composed that it gives it a mafia/godfather feeling and an European feeling that other songs do not contain. I like the prayer and the beginning music with the strings, and how all the sound effects go together such as the gun shots!

2. Nuo Fu (Coward)
3.8/5 This song has a rockish feeling in it which is very unique in the Chinese music area. This reminds me of the rock artists in the US such as Linkin Park (as everyone has said) and to me Evanescence. But although the critics say this sounds like a song from them and not an original from Jay, I disagree because Jay makes it seem like his with the girl rapping in the back. Also, not everyone can pull off this song like Jay can! This song also shows how unique Jay's voice can be- to be used in rock and how his creativity can span in so many areas! The only reason I don't give a higher score for this is because I am not that much into rock.

3. Qing Tian (Sunny Day)
4/5 Surprisingly, this is the song I did not like the first time I heard it, but it has grown on me. I found that Jay started the song too soon and ended it too fast and too abrupt, but I love the guitar in the song. Also probably, I think I was looking for a very slow piano song such as "silence" and "black humor", so I did not like this song. After listening to it for quite a while, the song is pretty good as a semi- fast and semi- slow song, but it reminds me of a country song!

4. San Nian Er Ban (Third Year Second Class)
5/5 I like this song a lot! This is similar to Yi Fu Zhi Ming in that there are many sound effects included, but it works perfectly and flows smoothly. The ping pong ball effects are very coordinated with the song and gives it a unique style along with the alarm clock! The song has a melodious feel to it. I can sleep to it.. :bleh:

5. Dong Feng Po (East Wind Breaks)
5/5 Very nice song..the slow melody. At first I wanted this to switch with Qing Tian because I would expect Qing Tian to be very slow. But East Wind Breaks is very nice with how he uses the ancient instruments of er hu and his soothing voice.

6. Ni Ting De Dao (You Can Hear Me)
5/5 Another good song. I love the rain sound! It sounds like a Brian McKnight song, this will surely be a hit to everyone. This is like An Hao and he sings pretty high for this song also! No problems here!

7. Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao (??)
3.7/5 This is truly a Jay song with the unique style of the music. I like the melody a lot. In the beginning it gives me a James Bond feel, but not later in the song. The chorus is very nice. It makes me want to dance and bob my head. Also in the middle, it has the clapping sounds or tap dancing, which reminds me of Prague Square, but it seems too weird to place it in this song.

8. Ta De Jie Mao (Her Eyelashes)
4/5 The chorus for this song is very catchy and up- beat. It somehow doesnt really match to the beginning of the song, but it's very catchy that you can't help to love it!

9. Love's Cliff
4.5/5 This is another good song I like with a very nice chorus. The beginning of the song with the piano is cool, but it does not match with the beginning of his singing. I like how its all slow in the beginning and then the chorus gets all "dramatic"..it gives you that "falling in the love cliff" feeling. This is definitely different from the other Vivian Hsu songs, but this reminds me of Tornado.

10. Ti Tian (Terraced Fields)
3.7/5 The beginning is very cute with the "Fang Wen Shan

" part, but it seems to monotone the whole song, which really doesn't appeal to me. It gives me the Native American feeling, but it makes me want to go sleep! But I have to admit, only Jay can do this song!

11. Shuang Dao (Twin Swords)
4.7/5 I love this song. It is like the less mild song of Nun-chuks! It gives you that feeling of exhilaration in the chorus. I think the only problem I had with it was the beginning with the person chanting- I think that should have been in Ti Tian. I like how again..the ancient instruments are used here to achieve the ancient and old effect. The sound effects are also very nice!

Overall: 4/5 This is a very nice CD. I think if you're a new fan of Jay Chou, this is a wonderful CD because it still shows how unique Jay is and how when you listen to his song, you know it's Jay! He has his own style that no one has in my opinion. His voice blends perfectly in his songs, and I think Jay would be the only one to sing that fast and have that same effect in producing a smoothly sung song. Although you may not understand what he is trying to say, the song just naturally flows. For the old and very loyal fans to Jay who have listened to all his songs, you might find some changes or differences. Jay has dabbled now into more of a rock album instead of the piano pieces which we have heard. I think if you listen to this album, Jay has done a good job on it, but if you compare it to other albums he has produced before, it might not be as good or the best. Jay has still maintained his own style and his own creativity playing around with numerous sound effects and creating songs that sound like sound tracks for a movie. You can sense how Jay's music is changing from simple sounds we have heard in the beginning albums, he has evolved into making more complicated songs and beats filled with a chock full of all funky beats and noises. In a way, I think this album is missing the chunk where to tone the album down where there were songs that would touch your heart and make you want to cry such as "silence". But rock is pretty good..shows another side of Jay!

*** Wow..this was a pretty lengthy review. Sorry guys if I confused you in any way***

I also would like to contribute my review of the album here. I hope you all feel like reading  .

Jay Chou: Ye Hui Mei Review

The long-awaited fourth album from Jay Chou has finally arrived. And it doesn’t disappoint. The album is different in many ways from his previous three albums. However, it is still the Jay we know and love. His knack for composing the most memorable of songs is still there. So what you get is an album packed with many different kinds of flavours and tunes only Jay is able to deliver.

While comparing Ye Hui Mei with other Jay albums, one could tell there is more attention paid to the production of the songs. While some of his songs from previous albums would sound very simple in terms of the beats and instruments used, the songs from Ye Hui Mei takes this into another level. I guess Jay was gunning for a raw sound. There’s definitely a more rock-oriented sound in the songs. Even his ballads have a tinge of this in them. And of course, there are more European and Asian influences incorporated into the songs.

Yi Fu Zhi Ming
This was the first song released from the album. The intro instantly hooks you in and pulls you into the world of an Italian mafia. And that’s what it sounds like. When you hear the song you instantly think of the word: godfather. While Jay goes into unfamiliar territories with this song, he still delivers. This is one of my favourite songs from the album.

Nuo Fu
This song reminds me of Linkin Park, but somehow it seems way better than what Linkin Park usually makes. It’s a catchy song that the teens will like xD. And just when you think the song won’t get any better, the rapping kid appears. The rapping kid rules.

Qing Tian
After the hard sounding Nuo Fu comes a ballad that is destined to be a fan favourite. Qing Tian is one of those Jay songs that everyone will love. And yes, this is personally my favourite song from the album. This is what I’m talking about when I say Jay has a knack for creating the most memorable of songs.

San Nian Er Ban
Jay incorporates the sound of ping-pong balls into this much talked about song. It’s a pretty good song, but it just happens to be the weakest song from the album in my opinion. His creative side is shown, but unfortunately the other tracks on the album are better. This song reminds me of those Nike basketball commercials where they take the sounds of a basketball and use them as the beats to a song.

Dong Feng Po
This song is another one of my favourites from the album (it was my favourite song until I heard Qing Tian a couple of times). The song gives off a relaxing vibe. Whenever I hear this song, I’m reminded of past memories. It’s a good song for reminiscing. The usage of a traditional Chinese instrument gives an old school Chinese song feel.

Ni Ting De Dao
Of all the songs from this album, this one sounds the most like his songs from his previous three albums. That’s not exactly a bad thing either. It’s a catchy ballad that I really like.

Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao
Once again Jay shows his creative side with this track. It’s a catchy, beat-filled track that is one of my favourites. I was interested in this song after I saw the Pepsi cm that featured this song. I was not disappointed. Hopefully they’re going to make a basketball-themed MV featuring Yao Ming for this song. (I swear Jay says “yo Yao” in this song!)

Ta De Jie Mao
The song starts off pretty gloomy-sounding but surprises you with a more upbeat chorus. This throws you off at first but I thought it was pretty cool. Overall it’s a pretty nice song.

Ai Qing Xuan Ya
An interesting piano intro accompanies this track. Again, this will be one of those songs that everyone will love. It’s not one of the songs that show his creative side, but it sure is catchy. I believe Vivi

an Hsu provided the lyrics to this song.

Ti Tian
Ahh yes, we have come to the so-called “chanting song” (actually I just made that up right now). I like Jay’s rapping in this one actually. And even though I believe this won’t be anyone’s favourite song, I really like this track. It’s almost appropriate as an ending song to the album (although it’s actually the second to last track).

Shuang Dao
What a great way to end the album with! If you like Shuang Jie Gun or Long Quan (martial arts songs), you will definitely like this song. It is parallel with Shuang Jie Gun in terms of the coolness factor and it’s way better than Long Quan. It’s just a fun song to listen to. Oh yea, it seems there’s a hint of Middle Eastern influences in the sound of the song.

Overall, this is just one of those albums that is destined to be a classic. I can safely say it’s better than 8th dimension or Jay’s debut album. Whether this album is better or worse than the Fantasy album is anyone’s guess. But those two albums are two different beasts (the styles are a bit different), so it’s hard to judge.[/i]

I came across this poll at Jay's official (ALFAMUSIC) site, and I thought I'd share it with everyone here.

The poll asked for the website visitors' choice of most liked song on Ye Hui Mei, and the results are as follows (as of my time of posting).

10.梯田:339票(5%)
11.雙刀:338票(5%)

The top three voted songs (by website visitors) were (in order of decreasing votes), Qing Tian (Track 3), Dong Feng Po (Track 5) and then Yi Fu Zhi Ming (Track 1).

On the other hand, the bottom three voted songs (in order of decreasing votes as well) were Nuo Fu (Track 2), Shuang Dao (Track 11) and Ti Tian (Track 10).

Does this poll result speak out for your thoughts about the album tracks as well? Personally the top three songs were my top three too, but I didn't rank the others (so I have no bottom three).

Now, we do not have any statistics about the origins of the voters, but why do you think those least favourite songs turned out to be as such?

well, i personally liked all the songs in the album, so i cant say the poll reflects my preferences.. hehs. :)

anyway, i think the fact that the songs Yi fu zhi ming and Qing tian were so widely played at a lot of tv & radio stations cause them to be more popular, and thats the whole purpose of having "zhu da ge" in any album.. the mtvs shown repeatedly also has a great impact. a good mtv will make a song sounds better, as audiences are able to "feel" more for the song..

as with the chinese music industry, slower, ballad-kind of songs always appeals more to the audiences, which i felt was why rockier, louder numbers like "shuang dao" & "nuo fu" were least prefered. i would expect audiences to feel that he shouldn't be making such music. my fren even commented that the album would be perfect without these 2 songs.

Hey LM,
I love Di Tian too! I love the so called chanting sounds..you noticed he did 2 sets of chant, one is included in the lyrics book..another set that isnt..i love the one that is not in the lyrics book..its beautiful! I came to love the use of traditional instruments and tribal like sounds through Jay..he's awesome! Dong Feng Po is my other favourites too..because of the traditional feel to it.

Hmmm, I thought Nuo Fu and Shuang Dao would be more popular, but I guess I was wrong. The top three songs are about right, however. I believe the three least popular songs will be more popular as the rest of the album gets more playing time.

Shuang Dao is more or less the equivalent of Shuang Jie Gun in terms of quality, and I thought that was a popular song. So yea, that one was pretty weird.

Nuo Fu will become more popular as the "rock" trend is becoming more and more accepted (which I believe will happen pretty soon).

Ti Tian I already knew wasn't going to be that popular. Doesn't make it a bad song tho. Well at least, I thought it was good.

And thx for the comments dreayh!!! I can't believe anyone would read my review! It's too long and boring. :bleh:

I, for one, love this song to bits. It's on my high list for best songs on the album. I started paying more attention to it after reading the cheeky lyrics Jay put in the beginning. That was too cute.

I sincerely hope more people grow to like this song. It has such a good message and the tribal feeling is so unique. ^_^

Have anyone noticed that Sissel Tseng,Or, Zheng yu ting, the lyricst for the song " Ni ting De dao" is one of the marketing planners? (Read the credits of the album) How amazing. :)

Well...what to say about it? This album is great.
I love it. currently, this is Jay's best album!
Maybe..there is some ppl that doesn't like the album..I would like to suggest them..to take more time, listen it a few more times. You need time to grew ur liking towards Jay's new songs.Which is true.
Jay has don't other singers that haven't do it b4...
boldly added a eerie soprano singing in Yi Fu zi ming; fantastic ping pong sound in San nian er ban; the melodious er hu in Dong Feng Po and Shuang Dao; the new style of singing in Ta de jie mao...and the tribal singing in Ti Tian.

He made so much changes and new tries in this album. I would really surprise, not just surprise--angry too, if next year, the judges of GMA didn't nominate Jay's Ye Hui Mei.

but what really worries me.. Jay's music is totally outstanding from the other producers and it takes time for other ppl to catch up with him.but what really worries me.. how Jay is gonna do produce his next album? this album is sooo good already..and what about the next album? What new elements and chemistry he is gonna add in his new album? this is a prob to Jay.Let's see how the genius of music is gonna do it..

I agree with a reviewer of Sin Chew Jit Poh, Jay has been trying new elements like composing songs for Jolin..like " jing Shen Qi Shi" and " Bu la ke Guang Zhang". And he did it.:)

i'm really slow.. haven't review yet.

this album has got to be the best out of the 4, followed closely behind by FANTASY. the album sales proves it all.

it's quite disappointing that jay didn't include songs like "an jing" cos that's my fave. but he included 11 songs this time and wrote the lyrics for 3 songs.. more than the previous albums.

besides the figures, jay is trying out many different styles. like #2- nuo fu is his first attempt at metal. though on first hearing it sounds like evanescene's bring me to life. yi fu zhi ming is ingenious cos he used opera singing, something no one else has tried before. and san nian er ban's ping pong sounds as beat is also a feat.

my fave is dong feng po. this song is so melodious it makes me wanna sleep! i like his piano part in ti tian, the way he makes it sound truncated is somewhat like how the industrialisation is making the beautiful scenery truncated.

Have anyone noticed that Sissel Tseng,Or, Zheng yu ting, the lyricst for the song " Ni ting De dao" is one of the marketing planners? (Read the credits of the album) How amazing. :)

 i guess jay is influencing everyone else in the company with his talents. last time one of the campany staff wrote "an hao", this time it became one of the marketing planners! next time it might be ding dang! :bleh:

I also want to add that I really like how the tracks were ordered in the cd (especially from tracks 1-7). Shuang dao was a great song to end the album with. Ends the album with a bang.

Some other things I've noticed:

- Yi Fu Zhi Ming is one of the tracks where I keep on liking it more as I listen to it again and again. IMO, it's one jay's best songs. You can tell there was much work put into the production of that song. From the instrumentals to the opera singer, it was all top-notch production.

- Just wanna give more props to Jay again for Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao. It really is a cool song.

- If some other artist gets an album out that is just HALF as GOOD as this album, he/she would get so much praise from everybody. Jay is on another level when comparing to those other asian artists. He truly sets the bar for others.

Yep yep!!! Di Tian is one of my personal favorites in the whole album!!! Just like wat you when he sang that chorus part it doesnt really sounds like Jay!! Its sounds so manly and he sang it with so much emotion!!!! I really love this song, it always gives me goose pimples when i hear it. Its such a pity that not much people really love this song!!! The song's lyrics are so meaningful and so touching about the nature no longer exists and replaced by hotels visited by tourists... so beautifiully sang out by Jay

Back to the other songs in Ye Hui Mei, hee my english is not too gd so just a brief review on each song :
1) YiFuZhiMing - Love the rhythm and the way jay sings this song, its so SEXY... this song gets better everytime you hear it!!!

2) Nuo Fu - Like everyone else remind me of Linkin Park, I love the first part of this song but i dun really like the small kid voice....

3) Xing Tian - Dun really get into me the first time! Just a normal love song when I heard it first. But the more I hear it the more I love it now its one of my top fave list!!! Jay sings it with such beautiful voice!!!

4) SanNianErBan - Haha I love this song when i first hear it!! I love the part when he scream "why so simple yet you still cant do it" love the lyrics too its bery cute!! But i dun like the first part where someone shout his name across the PA.

5) Dong Feng Bo - Okay this song is most of the fans here favourite. I love this song but not as much as TiDian though... i love this song chinese instrumental usr in the background.

6) NiTingDeDa - One of fave song in the album!!! Love the secret message hidden in the song!!! (the one where he sings the song backwards). The song is simple but yet so touching!!! And another karaoke hits!!! (something which i can sing to!)

7) Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao - Oh I love this song 2!!!! I love the chorus part but i dun like the tapping part!!! This song is so CATCHY!!!!

8) TaoDeJieMao - Love the starting of the song but not the chorus hmmm but i love the style of jay's singings so DIAO!!!!

9) AiQingXuanYa - Hee hee another karoake hit songs which i can sing to love the starting 2 but the chorus is so so.

10) As disccussed above maybe my top fave song

11) Shuang Dao - Oh this song is so GROOVY!!! I love this song alot!! Though it might be a bit noisy with all the different instruments in the background!! But this song is definitely another great song of jay!!! It always stirr me into a groovy mood!!! :)

Overall i found that this album is really bery different from his previous albums but its great that Jay is experimenting with new stuffs and giving great surprises and great musics to all the fans out there!!! Jay is so diao that he neber stop impress us with his DIAONESS :D

i totally agree with yi fu zhi ming.. when i first got the album i kinda skipped that track cos i wanted to listen to the rest first.. but i think this song really grew on me a lot.. i think it's an awesome song.. it's so creative.. eerie.. dark.. and yet so cool.. and the way he sang it is sooo good.. (sorry for the lack of vocabulary to describe this song.. but i really love it!!)

and i love the order of the songs too.. esp the first and last song.. i think yi fu ming starts is a really good way to start.. it was such a long intro as you wait in anticipation to hear jay's voice.. and with shuang dao at the end notice how it concludes as if you have finished watching a movie.. i dunno how to describe it.. it's like there's just so much imagery in his songs.. from one fame to another with so many different twists and turns..

oh i love ti tian too.. it's my fave after qing tian.. i love the words especially.. it's so cool.. jay does it like as if he was talking to you about how he feel about the whole issue.. i just love it when he sings.. "og my beloved cows.." hahaha so funny.. and i love the last few lines of the song too.. it's just so cool... ahhhh.....

i think the whole world is especially critical of jay than any other artiste.. which is rather unfair.. why can't the world just sit back and enjoy the music.. ?? ye hui mei is damn kiss-ass in my opinion...

That day, my sis told me that... Jay had lost his originity. His songs sounded like other artists. (Example: Linkin Park, David Tao and Rui En!!)
What happened? :?

i disagree totally.. look at songs like ti tian.. yi fu zhi ming.. do feng po.. people who make comments that have like the straits times reviewer overlooked the other elements in the album (no offence)..

in this world it is actually increasingly difficult to be completely oringinal... i think it's ok to copy certain elements from others.. but you can either copy it wholesale or borrow it and make it better.. which is what jay has done.. he has taken different elements from all over the place and made them better to suit his own style.. and you need talent to do this well.. which is what jay has done!!

Finally the album is out for sale. I so excited when listen his song for the for the first time through my friend ( i still can't buy it, sold out everywhere).
After listen for some of his songs, i found out that mainly is rap song. Its hard to follow although got lyrics! Sometimes i don't know what he is singing, haha!
But i like the song titled Xing Tian very much! The melody, the lyrics make me feel very relax, i also don't know why. I keep repeating this song for hundred times! I felt that this album style is different from the last three, am i right? This album have many rap song and its very hard to follow with. Maybe that's why make him special. I would like to hear other fans opinion too~!
And wish to listen other's to comment about their favourite song in this new album (Ye Hui Mei). So that i can review the song too.

Finally i got the Ye Hui Mei album that i have waited for so long. :shiny:

To reduce the biased review, i decided to listen to the album for 8 times.
I dont know whether it's enough to make a good review.

here's my short review:

1. In the Name of the Father -- very good. unique. i like the music background. the opera voice. but sometimes this song's scary. i cant listen to it if i am alone in the middle of the night. feel like i am in the funeral.

2. Coward -- good. not very unique because everytime i listen to this song. i always think of other metal rock bands. first time listenning, the kid's voice was annoying. last time listenning, it's cool to use kid's voice but it would be better if the kid did not sing such big part in the song.

3.Cloudless Day -- good. not very unique because in the beginning it sounds like english pop song. but when jay started to sing, it does not sound alike.

4. Year 3 Class 2 -- very good. unique and very creative. use ping pong sound as music instrument. this song sounds much better when listen with cd walkman becuase it gives feeling that ping pong goes your left and then right. should try it. visualize the ping pong competition.

5. Broken Wing -- very good. beautiful melody. feel very relax when listening. i like chinese pi pa instrument in the background.

6. You Can Hear -- good. the beginning is good but the tone of the chorus are too similar with the beginning. so it does not boost my feeling much.

7. Same Kind of Tune -- good. in the middle of the song sound like latin style. nice combinding rock, latin and rap.

8. Her Eyelashes -- good. in the beginning reminds me of the orc in 8d album. i like the chorus even though it sounds english. good ending melody.

9. Love's Cliff -- very very good. i'm so touched with such a painful voice. i can feel even though i dont understand what he sang. but i think too much music in the chorus and it's a bit too fast, just a bit too fast. it reduce the sad feeling emotion. still it is a good song that i like.

10. Terraced Fields -- good. maybe it sounds too aboriginal so i dont get used it much. but i like jay's rapping in this song.

11. Double Knives -- very good. surprised when hearing the shouting in the beginning. ( hahaha kinda wonder whether putting the wrong cd in) but i like the whole song.

**noted that i dont understand what he sings. i use my feeling to make this review.**

from the overall, this album is good but not his best album for me.

sorry that my english is not good and thanks for reading.

Honestly, it seems that Jay reached his peak in the Fantasy album. 8D was ok, but seemed to lack a uniquenss, a specialty, just that undescribable feeling of great songs compared to good songs. But now, with Ye Hui Mei, it seems that Jay has lost his personal style/uniquenss and is in a way borrowing motifs from other music artists. Like so many people have pointed out he has ventured into rock music. While this may be applauded for branching out and not being stuck in the "same old same old" mentality. He should still be producing more R&B style songs, in an effort to best his previous offerings. Instead of just letting past songs be acknowledged as great, and in a way abandoning those song styes by just "evolving" towards a different sound. But the problem is his evolution is nothing new, the music style is not superbly distinctive. It's just another rock styled album. It would be best for Jay to step back and reexamine his thoughts/direction in music. Maybe he should just work on music alone for a year or two to take a creative break. Because it seems like Jay needs it. There is something wrong if you need to listen to an album many times before you start to really like it. I bet many people like this album only because it has the name "jay chou" on the album cover. If he released this album secretly under a different name, it would not NEARLY be as popular. Just look at yesasia.com, there were like 50 reviews giving the album a 5 star rating even BEFORE the album was RELEASED! Too much of the reviews are biased based on fanatisicm of the jay persona. I'm not trying to diss jay, because I do believe he has the talent as seen in his debut and Fantasy albums. I guess every artist has bad periods.

Like so many people have pointed out he has ventured into rock music. While this may be applauded for branching out and not being stuck in the "same old same old" mentality. He should still be producing more R&B style songs, in an effort to best his previous offerings.

Okay, I have to say I completely disagree with you here. Jay is still producing R&B styled songs. Just because he has ventured into rock music does not mean that the whole album is rock. You have a grand total of 3 rock songs in the entire album. That is not enough to say that Jay has abandoned R&B. You still have tracks like Dong Feng Po that offer that R&B style.

And I don't believe that Jay should be producing more R&B styles to best his previous offerings. An artist shouldn't try to always improve his old offerings because then, it will still stay the same... If you track Jay to Fantasy to 8D, all the songs all have the same hint of Jay production, but all the songs are unique. They don't best each other. All the songs are unique in their own way.. It's about exploring and creativity, striving to improve as an artist, not the songs the artist has made.

Instead of just letting past songs be acknowledged as great, and in a way abandoning those song styes by just "evolving" towards a different sound. But the problem is his evolution is nothing new, the music style is not superbly distinctive. It's just another rock styled album.

I agree with you that the evolution to rock is nothing new. The idea is, because it is a new genre, a new sound, Jay isn't exactly experienced in developing something superbly distinctive in the rock department. The man makes his living on hip-hop, pop, and R&B.. Can we really expect him to come with a phenominal song in a genre that he isn't used to going in?

Then, I must disagree with you again. This is not just a rock styled album. Again, you only have three songs that are purely rock. There are stronger elements of rock in songs like more use of the guitar and drums, but it's nothing that would indicate that it's a rock album.

The music style is distinctive. Where in the world would you hear another song even remotely close to Yi Fu Zhi Ming? San Nian Er Ban? Ti Tian? Dong Feng Po? Any where you go, anything you listen to, no one can honestly say that songs like Jay's exist. The musical style may not seem distinctive since we all are accustomed to his style, but go anywhere else. You won't find another like his style.

There is something wrong if you need to listen to an album many times before you start to really like it.

In case it isn't obvious, Jay's style in this album is extremely different. So completely different that even two weeks after it's release, the album is STILL being debated about. People have to listen to it many times before they like it because they have to get used to the songs... It takes a long time to listen and like because the style is different, the songs are different.

I have this habit of categorizing artists and putting them in a style that I think is theirs. I don't know about other fans, but if I hear a song by an artist that is a complete change from their usual style, it takes me a long time before I can get used to the idea of the different style and the song itself.

If he released this album secretly under a different name, it would not NEARLY be as popular.

Actually, if this was released under a different name, people would not be so hard on it. With the 'fanatacism' that comes with Jay also comes high expectations. We all expect the very best from Jay. By any other artist, such songs as Dong Feng Po, Yi Fu Zhi Ming and Ti Tian would be phrased as a break through into a musical world that is going stale. Bu

t because it's Jay, we stop and wonder if he's lost his touch.

Just look at yesasia.com, there were like 50 reviews giving the album a 5 star rating even BEFORE the album was RELEASED! Too much of the reviews are biased based on fanatisicm of the jay persona.

Okay, I agree with you the reviews are biased and based on fanaticism of the jay persona. My conclusion has always been these people are not only extreme fans, but they are also retarded fans. No real fan really believes in those reviews, and I pray to Buddha you don't judge all fans, Jay, or his music on those 50 people who were idiotic enough to post in all caps, ranting about how great the album was before a song was even released.

...And so ends my particularly long post. I apologize to people who come and see this long thing and actually READ through all of it, but I had to respond. To papillon, I hope you don't take my comments as disrespectful, mean, or rude. I also hope you don't think I'm trying to force my opinions on you because I honestly enjoyed reading your review and I respect your opinion.

That is so true. After his previous albums, we've been kinda spoiled. I can tell you for sure that if another artist comes up with something that is only half as good as Ye Hui Mei, they'll get huge praises as a new breakthrough artist or an artist with breakthrough material. But since it's jay, we must not overlook any little mistake. So in a way, to be in jay's level is similar to having both a gift and a curse. Other artists have more leeway in terms of the mistakes they make.

And just because something is different doesn't mean it's inferior. Ye Hui Mei contains some of jay's best work, IMO. It's kinda a new Jay, yet at the same time it's still the good old jay.

I hope that made sense. :wink2:

The top three voted songs (by website visitors) were (in order of decreasing votes), Qing Tian (Track 3), Dong Feng Po (Track 5) and then Yi Fu Zhi Ming (Track 1).

On the other hand, the bottom three voted songs (in order of decreasing votes as well) were Nuo Fu (Track 2), Shuang Dao (Track 11) and Ti Tian (Track 10).

Now, we do not have any statistics about the origins of the voters, but why do you think those least favourite songs turned out to be as such?

i think the least faves included the 2 rock tracks coz the ppl who voted were chinese/asian. rock music hasn't been accepted by the wide majority of audiences in taiwan, hk, china, etc, yet. it's not something they're/we're used to listening to, i suppose, that's why J has to go and produce songs like qing tian, to appeal to the audience and to give the radio stations something to play.
i personally really like shuang dao and nuo fu (well, except for the girl).
but to be honest, i don't like ti tian. it just doesn't appeal to me, musically speaking.

It would be best for Jay to step back and reexamine his thoughts/direction in music. Maybe he should just work on music alone for a year or two to take a creative break. Because it seems like Jay needs it. There is something wrong if you need to listen to an album many times before you start to really like it.

that's true, J should take a break and just work on his music for a while....i'm sure he'd like that too....however i don't think he is able to do that. ye hue mei was a rushed album, he said so himself. he was given a time limit by his record company and they pushed him to have it ready by that time, and there wasn't anything he could do about that. given the choice, i'm sure he'd have spent more time working on the individual tracks and the album. you have to realise that a lot of the time, big selling artists are constrained by their companies and contracts.

i do not agree tho that there is something wrong if it takes time for ppl to like the album. in fact, i think it's better when it takes time for ppl to get to know the music and to like it, coz from experience, you'll like it more than the tracks you liked instantly. well, this is really drawing from my own experiences and ppl can disagree if they want. but there's nothing wrong at all. perhaps, ppl just need the time to get used to the new tunes and styles.

actually, i love ti tian, and dun understand why it is the least fav song. i'm not very good at expressing myself, so pls pardon me.

the piano part in ti tian is very soothing, and the way jay raps fit perfectly with the piano in the beginning. the meaningful lyrics and wierd (but nice) rhythm give a nice beat to the song, and i wouldnt mind jay having a song only with him rapping like dat...

then the tribal part comes in, and the later parts of the song, the tribal singing just blends so well with his rapping that i can't concentrate on his rap, try as i might. this part is so beautiful, and i think he used the tribal part really well, as the whole song flowed smoothly and did not seem to be broken into parts where it was either his rapping or the tribal tune.

in conclusion, the rapping is already perfect; together with his blending of the tribal part in the last part, it just makes the song so beatiful and touching, as i think of how we are destroying the earth...

I like Ti Tian too!! After having listened to it for soo many times, his songs still appeal to me! One track after another...except for Nuo Fu and Shuang Dao. But have u noticed that when Jay arranges the songs, he doesn't use strings orchestra..he used guitars..drums..band-like instruments . I guess he really likes to explore every musical instruments there is!! :D can't wait to hear his next album!! >__< are we fans and the media giving him too much stress?
According to alfamusic's polls, Nuo Fu and Shuang Dao's votes are at North and South pole. What a difference! Hah! Maybe everyone likes girl's rapping and that song is composed, written and arranged by Jay? I personally think that it reminds me of some rock bands' songs and the beginning of the rap sounds like Energy's Fang Shuo..but the lyrics are good..Shuang Dao..perhaps too many sound effects..^^;
Also, Ai Qing Xuan Ya...what a surprise...perhaps fans are not used to his ballad rock songs...when I first heard it, I also dun quite like it but after reading the comments and listening more to the song...it's quite sad to me...

This album has certainly shown maturity in Jay's talent in producing his music. Like one of our members who had just posted before, one can see that Jay has improved in some of the lyrics of the songs which he has written which are about social issues. It takes some form of knowledge and courage to be able to air your views on societal issues and to embrace them as one's belief.

Jay has done that in some of his songs in this album. One of his love ballad [晴天] has also been really catchy, which what love ballads should be about. Jay has also smartly introduced music from different cultures like indian, spanish etc.

Not forgetting the chinese string instruments. In [双刀], there was this part in the song where it sounded like an excerpt from a Walt Disney cartoon, don't know how many of you would agree with me. Such originality in music has shown that he has improved quite a fair bit from his last album, [八度空间]。

Though I must agree that he has been rapping in almost every song in this album, but it is not the main focus of this album, as much as it was in the last. The focus on this album, I feel, is the maturity of the lyrics of the songs. We can't help but be led to wonder what inspired Jay to produce songs of this new album [叶惠美]。

Hmm..looks like everyone fell in love with his album the first time you guys heard it? for me, i only fell in love with 1 song the first time i listened to the album (without knowing any songs in it except YFZM) and tt's Qing Tian. it sounds like a happy song but coupled with such sad lyrics. really touching. i dont exactly think this album is so much easy listening- it's not very easy on the ears the first time for me cos i'm not used to him trying out different styles. and actually when i pass track 4, i almost fell asleep from boredom...until track 10 when he started singing "Na Lu Wan...". really special blend of musical elements! and track 11 totally revitalised me. i was listening to the CD on the bus and when track 11 ended, i was so awe-struck tt i wanted to stand up and clap! tt song is so rich in sound effects and interesting combination of musical aspects...heh. esp love the beginning part of the song when the sound of the sword marked the transition in the song from rapping to singing. always get goosebumps when i hear tt!

i'm starting to appreciate his other songs now tt i've listened for many MANY times...but i wouldnt really say tt this album is much better than Ba Du Kong Jian...this album's much more impressive in terms of creativity and the range of musical styles i guess...but i didnt exactly gawk at every single track the first time i heard it. maybe i expected too much from Jay, tt's y i'm a lil bit disappointed..hmm...

i love all of his slow songs in this album (only 4 though).
this album is totally different from his other cds... he has changed his style a little and added a little rock in his music... it's something new so i have to listen to it more (with the translation) to fully appreciate this album... i'll have more to comment next time.

I think the you guys are right about how his lyrics are just getting better! He's tackling social problems like drugs and the destruction of nature, it shows his maturity and how he's gonna use his powere or influence over his fans for good! I think it's really cool that he really cares enough about such things to have songs about them!

hmm i din bother to read the whole posts, so i hope no one said this before. i feel that this album has a very wide range of music, from rock(nuo fu, shuang dao), slow rock(qin tian) to slow soothing commercial songs(ni ting de dao, dong feng po) to fast, kooky songs(san nian er ban, tong yi zhong diao diao).i really like this cd alot cos i wun get bored listening, there are a lot of songs that are so different. though there is some parts that i dun like, but on the whole i think this is his best album yet. i dun really like the ti tian part at first, it sounds very weird. but after i read the lyrics, i realised this song's pulling point is the words and the things that he is trying to express, his disgust towards ppl who destroy the enviroment. it's a song which makes us think, though i dun think i'll do anything on my part to help the enviroment after listening to it, it still lacks convincing element.

*laughs* Um, I did a loooong review for one of my websites awhile back. It's not the same as the one I showed to dream, since my opinion changed. Oh well. Can't wait until monkee writes up his. XD

The album opens beautifully with the cover song Yi Fu Zhi Ming (In the Name of the Father). The song is smooth, dark, sexy. Alternating between slow raps and soft blends of voices, Jay paints a dark picture of the mafia, reminiscent of The Godfather. The operatic break in between all the rapping captures the listener's breath before plunging again into a world full of girls, guns, and ultimately, death. With it's abstract lyrics and it's slick sound, Yi Fu Zhi Ming is easily one of the best songs on the album.

With the end of Yi Fu Zhi Ming, Nuo Fu (Coward) and the follow-up Qing Tian (Cloudless Day) begin. This is where Jay shows his new rock style. The songs are undoubtly good. Yet, while he proves he can make good rock songs, he stumbles a bit. Jay's small endeavors in the rock world show how unaccostomed he is to the genre and it's style. The end result is a sound not entirely his own. Nuo Fu sounds extremely similar to Linkin Park's style, while the rap by the young girl sounds like Limp Bizkit. Qing Tian sounds almost too much like The Calling. The similarities in style show Jay's inexperience in rock.

After we have a taste of rock, Jay inserts a refreshing oddity titled San Nian Er Ban (3rd Year, 2nd Class). This is a fun, light-hearted song that boogles the mind because of one thing: the ping pong balls. Much like the Nike commercials that featured basketball players making a tune by bouncing their basketballs, Jay uses ping pong bouncing as a central part of the song. While Jay's shouts toward the end sounds a bit forced, San Nian Er Ban is nevertheless one of the better songs in the album for it's ping pong sounds and it's smooth delivery. The song also makes for an easy transition from rock to the slower pop.

The first of the pop songs is Dong Feng Po (Broken Wing). It is perhaps the only pop song on the album worth a listen. It is beautiful in it's old Chinese feel, which is brought out by the traditional Chinese instruments the er hu and pi pa. Ni Ting de Dao (You Can Hear), which follows Dong Feng Po, pales in comparison. While it is a sweet song, it is boring. There is nothing very unique about Ni Ting De Dao with the exception of the incoherent mumbling around 2:10. Fans later discovered that when played backwards, the mumbling turns out to be a secret message Jay sends to his fans.

There is a brief break between all the pop with a very cool song titled Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao (This Kind of Tune). It is featured in a Pepsi commercial where Jay Chou and Yao Ming demonstrate how people can connect through similar interests (and Pepsi, as the producers would have you see). This is a very upbeat song with some very interesting Spanish-influenced breaks amid all the funky sounds. Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao is similar to San Nian Er Ban in style, and it provides a fun break.

The next song, Ta De Jie Mao (Her Eyelashes), is frustrating to listen to. The beginning sounds faintly like Istanbal from Eight Dimensions, but as Jay begins the verses, Ta De Jie Mao almost promises to be an interesting jazz and blues song. When the chorus launches, however, one could almost scream in exasperation. The verses themselves are well done, but the chorus is too uplifting, too pop. The potential of the song is lost among the annoyingly generated boyband chorus. Ta De Jie Mao is the only song on the whole album that is almost intolerable because of it's generated pop feel.

Ai Qing Xuan Ya (Love's Cliff) begins with an enchanting scale riff which leads nicely into a lovely combination of Jay's soft singing and the piano. This is the closest song to the "depressing, I could cry my eyes out" song that is present in all of Jay's previous albums such as Hei So You Mo (Black Humor), An Jing (Silence),

and Fen Lie (Split). It is a heart-breaking song. The verses are beautifully sung, but the orchestration in the chorus is a little too hopeful for the theme of the song. Even with the overly hopeful chorus, this is still beautiful in it's depression.

With the soft end of Ai Qing Xuan Ya, Ti Tian (Terraced Fields) begins. The whole song sounds like ancient tribal music with a modern twist. Most notable about the lyrics are the beginning lines where Jay shows his cheeky side. Besides the cheeky beginning, the lyrics say a strong message of caring and preserving nature for future generations. While sure to put off many fans for it's tribal sound, this is truly a jem of the album, even if only for the first few lines of the lyrics. Smooth in delivery, this is one of the more unique songs in Jay's already growing arsenal.

Ti Tian would have been a very appropriate end to this album, but Jay adds one extra song, a break from his usual ten songs per album tradition. The last song of the album is Shuang Dao (Double Blade), which sounds like a mix of both Shuang Jie Gun (Nunchuks) and Long Quan (Dragon Fist). While Shuang Dao has a stronger rock influence, it still keeps the Chinese kung-fu feel. The only difference is this time around, the sound of Shuang Dao is both smoother and edgier than either Long Quan or Shuang Jie Gun. The violins at the end bring an appropriate end to Ye Hui Mei.

track 1: good song, people probably won't catch the melody well when listening to this song the first time. very classical yet merge with the rap, here comes the style of jay, its original.
track 2: WOW! this is loud, kind of rock, and perhaps, as people say, a little bit like linkin park. But there's a little girl doing rap, and that's fun to listen. i also like the meaning of the song which wants us youngster to live against drugs.
track3: a very sad song, in the terms of its meaning, while the music itself is not as sad as fen lie, or an cing. it is not recommended for broken-hearted people to listen this track, or they won't stop crying.
track 4: i think this song has likeliness with ye ye phao te cha, funny rap, and the ping pong sound at the background is a very good inspiration of jay. i like this song very much.
track 5: oldie song, together with the instrument used, the song gives impression like thinking back our ol' good day. yes, those were the days.
track 6: another love song, nice melody, and the part when he sings 'ce you ni neng thing te tao' backwards, hehe, it's pulling my leg.
track 7: kind of song which can make your body dance, so many music instruments are used here, also the tap dance, seems like milan blacksmith song in 8 dimensions (there's even a goat in that song)
track 8: a song with a style like Pan Tao Tie He, where there's different style between intro and chorus. very nice.
track 9: this is sad song with sad melody, not like qing tian. and the lyrics done by vivian shu is very good, has a very deep meaning.
track 10: another one of my favourites in this album. it has the same style with dad, i'm back, i like the rap, very long, longer than the rap in dad, i'm back. and a very good meaning, about keeping the earth green.
track 11: now this is the kind of song which is a must in every jay's album. he doesn't have it in first album. but there's nunchucks in fantasy, long chien in 8dimension, and here comes our double blade in the latest album.

yi fu zhi ming is a very creaive song but it goes all oo long for the song to be great..i mean they should have shortened the song and pull out those screaming. nuo fu which comes next is a GREAT song jay has already revealed that it was inspired by LP. this is evident during the chorus but jay couldn't scream like chester. i mean who could? the next track, perhaps the best love song jay produced to date. the guitar gives the song a very bright feel and definitely one of jay's better lyrics. the next track san nian er ban uses ping pong for the background. it could be better if jay maximum the effect of the volume. this is another song that will be boring if u overplay it. dong feng po is another distinct song in terms of the feel of the song. it gives u a very soothing and relaxing feel. one of the best tracks of ye hui mei. the next song ni ting de dao is less creative than the previous but it provides the same relaxing feel. tong yi zhong diao diao is the song that jay should produce more! fav track of the album. the beat gives u the goosebumps and juz love the drums at the ending!! ta de jie mao is like a city song . though nice to listen to, it doesn't leave much memory. ai qing xuan ya is probably the worst song in the album. his attempt to refine moments like an jing and fen lie has failed unfortunately. the chorus just spoils it all. not recommended. ti tian is an inspiring song. thumb up for jay for sending this important message through a song. shuang dao is CRAZY!! another "kan cheong" song! ends the album with a bang!

i think Yi Fu Zhi Ming is Unique, creative and special... :) ...even some indians also like the song(maybe the tune?)!!!

Nuo fu (coward) sounds stupid to me at first but as i listen more of it, i think it is quite nice...really...just have to listen more of it...Jay is going to use this song in the awards i think...

Qing Tian is just like Xing Qing...Jay also agrees...i think it is a nice song...a great soothing song. :D

San Nian Er Ban is totally coolZ!! :excited: !! if u have the lyrics according to how it is sing...not like the ones in the CD...u will realise that the lyrics are great and it is very meaningful...Jay likes this song too and i think he is also going to use this song in the awards(for which awards i not sure)

Dong Feng Po makes use of Chinese type of instruments ... it sounds nice and soothing like Qing Tian...but i think it is more chinese type i think it is quite good.. :wink2:

Ni Ting De Dao is great ... the lyrics are so ....wow.... i also like it a lot!!! :wink2:

Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao ...is more of rock n roll typr of song...i do not have much special feelings about it..but i like the tune of the chorus..!! :wink2:

Ta De Jie Mao.....u no need to say... :excited: ..it is EXCELLENT!!!!.. :excited: ...i like the lyrics very very much...if u analyse it carefully , u will like it....the chorus...and another part of the song is great....Jay loves this song u know...and he also hopes people will like it...but i like this song noy because Jay hopes people can accept this song.....

Ai Qing Xuan Ya...a lot of people also like this song ... it is slow .. i also quite like it...as the chorus part is EXTREMELY good...!!...it expresses the feelings.. :)

Ti tian ... well i do not realy have special feelings about it either...sorri to those who like it, i just expressing my thoughts. :glug:

Shuang Dao is quite good...but my friends do not like....its nice really!!

Yeah!! I finally bought my first and newest album of Jay's Yeh Hui Mei. :excited:

I absolutely love it and have no regrets that I've already downloaded some of his songs from the internet because I'm proud to support Jay and I'm also proud to be one of many Jay fans. :usd:

Track 6 is my most favourite song now True, it's so addictive. Jay's voice is as sexy as ever in that song "You Can Hear" (Ni ting de dao).
