Jin the MC, I would have to say, is one of the best chinese american rapper. If you don't know who he is, he landed a role in 2 Fast 2 Furious and his song is on the soundtrack.
Here is his official site if you would like to download his songs and videos.

I really like JIn.. i think almost all asians that live in the US know about him.. he can speak cantonese fluently and his Cd's is suppose to drop september 30th according to the people on his site. Jin is really hated on by almost everyone in NY though. Simply because he tries to be a hard gangsta when he's just a funny guy that can free style.

Ah~~ that's always too bad. When will they stop trying to act hard and just be themselves? It's not as if we're all stupid - we can see through his act.
Perhaps he is another victim of the Napoleon complex.

and you know there would be more people hatin on him if he acted like a pansy....
Chun Li

He doesn't have to act like a pansy but can't he just be cool about stuff... it's like he's overcompensating for his height or something. Doesn't he realize he'd sell more albums if he cut down on the haters...

well you also have to respect the fact that he seems pretty down to earth and keeps in close touch with his fans [like his xanga] and such
i hate it when ppl call him chigga. GOD.
wow i didn't think Jin was that popular!! ^__^
Its weird cuz one of my friend's friend had a party, and invited Jin, and he was there. But its not any upclass party, just the usual drinking and drugs -___- (they're bad boys)
And Jin has his own asianavenue page. haha and i think he made it himself. cuz last time i went he took those picutres with a webcam!

Hey, I found this article on Jin. It was dated Nov 10. Apparently he was involved in some sort of gang shooting and his friend was injured. :glug:
source: http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/10420.htm
ASIAN RAP SHOOTING IN CHINATOWN
November 10, 2003 -- A clash between two Asian rappers - up-and-coming star Jin and another rapper linked to a vicious gang - sparked a shooting in Chinatown early yesterday that sent a third man to the hospital, cops said.
The incident began at about 2 a.m. in the trendy new Yellow bar at 32 Mulberry St., when the rappers started arguing.
Another man, Christopher Louie, 23, stepped in to defend his pal, the newly popular Asian rap star Jin, who appeared last summer in the drag-racing sequel "2 Fast 2 Furious" with hip-hop star Ludacris.
During the argument, the rapper linked to the gang - whose name was not released - pulled a .40-caliber gun and shot Louie once in the lower back. Jin, whose full name is Jin Au-yeung, was unharmed.
The gunman - who fled the scene - is a reputed member of the Ghost Shadows street gang, police said.
Sources said the argument between the rival rappers may have been sparked by the shooter's jealousy of Au-yeung, who spent part of his summer on MTV's "You Hear It First" tour.
Au-yeung, who was born in Elmhurst, Queens, raps about race and being Chinese-American. His debut album was released two weeks ago on Ruff Ryders/Virgin Records. The 21-year-old star has already won rapping competitions where, like white Eminem before him, he has turned taunts about his ethnicity into his own rap disses.
Louie was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where cops there said he is expected to survive.

jin is "straight". i will give him props though because he is the first asian rapper to make it onto mainstream music. but i mean, i don't know what's all the hype about? his rhymes are not all that great and his beats aren't hot neither. i admit, i like the way he puts some canto in his raps but...idk...he's not the best out there. i like "peel off" from the 2f2f soundtrack better than "learn chinese"

I personally liked his freestyling better than his actual thought out music. I watched every clip where he battled people for 30secs and he was really good there... I don't think he tries to be too hard to be a gangster. I think it's actually funny since he's so short and he wears baggy stuff making him shorter!

He was mentioned in ELLE magazine (Jan. 03 issue, pg47): Jin, (aka the "Chinese Eminem"), a 22-year-old rapper from Queens who made headlines after winning BET's lyrical battle 106 & Park seven weeks straight (his album's out in March).
Haven't listened to him. But I'll support Chinese pride I guess.. ;D

i am too lazy to look it up, but what is the "napoleon complex"?
Not exactly sure but I think it's when people attempt to overcompensate for their lack in stature, such as when Napoleon turned France into an empire (heh, cute, have a revolution, kill your monarchs, only get an emperor...nice...), conquering here and there. Hopefully Jin [tha mc] won't get owned by the allies and get shipped off to Alba.
Back to the question, the Napoleon complex sort of relates to that saying, "You know what they say about guys with big hands -nudge- -wink- wink-.....big gloves" in that height, along with the size of your hands and feet in men tends to reflect on the size of um...a diao, if you will. Some guys become really aggressive and try to play American football, some guys annex various areas surrounding la belle france, and apparantly some guys will don the whole ghetto-fab thug thing and rap. (not my personal opinion, I think Jin's alright, can't help but laugh every time I hear the girl in the chorus of "learn Chinese" though)

Actually, it was Jin Tha MC that was in 2Fast2Furious.. that was his debut movie where he had a shaved head and played character, "Jimmy," which was the car technician. His fullname is Jin Auyeung.. and that's whole played in the movie.
Anyways.. Jin is quite the jerk if you ask me.. He was in many shootings where his friend took a bullet for him.. and he didn't even say anything to him.. not a visit to the hospital, no thanks, no phone call.. no nothing..

Haha Willy so true, so true :]
I know Jin in real life, I met him through my God brother who's name is also Jin haha :] We chill sometimes in Chinatown.. don't make him seem like a bad guy, because he really isn't. A lot of stuff went down with all the shootings that the public doesn't know about, Jin really cares for his friends though. He really is a loyal and a genuine person. If you're at a concert of his, he'll stop to take the time and autograph as much stuff as he can and will sit and chat with you. He's totally cool when he's in Chinatown though, he'll start chatting with you like you guys have known each other forever. Uh that's enough rambling from me :]

I dunno about him being fluent in Cantonese though....his pronunciation sounds off!
Plus, what the hell is the girl singing? It makes no sense!
But for real, I don't know whether to be proud that an Asian finally made it to the top (Mountain Brothers were close, but they got shut down by Ruff Ryders a few years back) or to be ashamed that his Cantonese sucks and makes us look bad. :P

oh, they mentioned him in ym magazine ( issue august04, pg 98)here's what it said:
Got his start: At 14. "If I asked a girl out and she totally denied me, I'd write a rhyme," says Jin.
Big Break:He made it into the Freestyle Friday Hall of Fame on BET. Before he'd even won his seventh match, the Ruff Rydyders had signed him.
His Mission: "At hip-hop shows performers always yell, 'Where my black people? Where my Latinos?' I never got to scream," JIn says. " I want to bring my Chinese culture to the table."
:wink2:
and it say that his cd comes out august 24, so i guess the date changed.

Whoever quoted his lyrics about how we should ride the trains free 'cause we built them, well, that's only true for the West Coast. The East rails were built by the Irish and Civil War Veterans. Just a point.
I personally don't like him much because he doesn't represent the majority of the Chinese-Americans here. And plus, the first thing I noticed was that his Canto sounded off. [ shrug ], just an obvservation.

He's an ABC, what do you expect? :) If I went to HK, my canto would sound HORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIBLY bad compared to 99% of the population there. But hey, I'm kind of surprised he actually knows Chinese.

So who do you think could "represent" Chinese Americans? :? What kind of Chinese American would be the "typical" Chinese American? :? It's not like you could just take one person and say, okay, this person represents Chinese Americans because all Chinese Americans walk, talk, and act like this one person. You know, there are differences in culture among Chinese Americans. If you're a first generation Chinese American, your culture would be different from a third generation Chinese American. I'm AMAZED he even speaks Chinese.

Okay okay, good point, there's so many ABCs here that don't even want to learn or speak Chinese at all. It shocked me when I first realized that most households DON'T speak Chinese at home.
I guess you guys are right again in that I don't have a clue what a "typical" ABC would be like. I mean, just depending on where you live you'd be completely diff (like East / West Coast)

We call 'em people twinkies ^_~
I'll tell ya though, the typical ABC really does differ depending on what portion of China they come from. Without going into too much detail and risking some backlash, it basically determines their intelligence as well, because of their upbringing.

hmmm....this is interestin...well i'm an abc (born in WI) nd i speak decent chinese (can understand/talk), but don't really know how to read nd write. Lots of muh abc friends don't even know how to speak a word of chinese! Some don't even have chinese names! I was like whoa...and one time I went to a chinese/jap/korean restaurant nd mah mom was like (in chinese) how much is this blah blah nd the lady (prolly abc) looked at her for a second nd then said sorry i don't speak/know chinese. After that I thought if she doesn't speak chinese or know chinese...how did she know my mom was speakin chinese in the first place? sheesh....
-ok so about jin....haha look at this....i dunno if it was already posted but o well....he was in the battle thing w/ someone nd he knew they'd say sumthin bout his chinese background...so he came up w/ this: yeah i'm chinese/now you'll understand it/ i'm the reason your little sis's eyes are slanted/ if you make one more joke about chinese food or karate/ the NYPD will be searchin chinatown for your body! Haha thats good....yah so he defnitely has asian pride....i hope he makes it big! ^_^

i agree, and plus the song "learn chinese" . i mean it would be a little offensive to other nationalies, i mean for example, a non-chinese person listenin to the song would be thinking " wtf, learn chinese?"
but i agree, jin hasnt established his style or trademark.

I listened to his song Learn Chinese a few months back. It had a prtty good beat, but I was told that the girls were not singing in chinese at all!
I read the lyrics to his song Love Story and they were so sad. I can't believe that it happened to him!

Lol Jin is one great freestyle rapper, probably the newest talent out there! Hmm, even though I'm not really into this kind of American freestyle Hip-hop stuff, it just cracks me up how he manages to blend in some Canto slang into his songs, especially in "Learn Chinese", the only song I've heard so far!
Recently, he won US$50k for winning a freestyle battle! And a sleek car. And just for the record, this past week, he's performed in Amsterdam, Stockholm and at The Coronet, London (18/02/05) and also.

Jin in my opinon is one of the greatest freestyle rappers out there. I mean when he battles others, no one can touch him. Thats how good he is!! His new cd is just awesome and the positive message behind it is just something you don't hear in US rap. I've been a fan of Jin for a while and I just can't get enough of him... :)

HAHAHA my mom said that. lmao.
i have a question tho, leehom and a jin in his gaishi yingxiong song, is that the same jin? the jin in his song could rap pretty well too in english

He talks about having asian pride, but can he even speak canto or mandarin fluently? I listened to Learn Chinese, and the cantonese in it doesn't sound natural.

Wait wait...
if he can't speak Cantonese fluently he wouldn't be able to do a 30 second rap in Cantonese written by himself. He has an accent, but pretty much anyone who does not speak Cantonese to their friends at school all the time develop an accent.
However, you do not need to be able to speak the language to have pride. Just because he has a background does not mean he MUST live the lifestyle of native Asians. He is not Asian, and I assume most of us here aren't. We're Asian American, Asian Canadian, whatever.

jin worked with leehom? wow, i think that may be the greatest news i've heard all day. haha, that's so cool.
quadshock- is his second album really that much better? cuz his first album.. man, i was dissapointed..
singerchick- yeah, he's known as the emcee now. he said his phase as jin is dead now and that he's reached a new phase in his life where he changed his style or something like that.
this is what it says on his website [www.theemcee.com]
In Oct. of 2004, Jin released his debut album on Ruffryders/Virgin records entitled 'The Rest Is History'. Since then, the album has sold upwards of 100,000 copies soley on the strength of Jin's die-hard fanbase. A week before the release, he was in Puerto Rico for the Mixshow Power Summit where he took home 50 grand after defeating the competition in the FightKlub MC Battle. 9 months after the release of his album Jin went into the studio and recorded a joint aptly titled 'I Quit'. In it, Jin rhymes about his disgust with the music industry and how its made him re-evaluate his view of what Hiphop is truly about. Unexpectedly, it created quite a buzz within the Hiphop community. No one knew what was the motivation behind these actions. Jin fans were shocked. When the smoke cleared, all that was left was a 'farewell' to the music industry from the one known as Jin.
Exit: Jin. Enter: The Emcee.

Jin's first album was just completely gimmicky, and Jin obviously had no idea how to rap the way RR wanted him to; his lines and the music clashed like two boulders. In his second album everything was basically done his way, and the reulst was much more natural with a more useful message. Still nothing more than a 8/10 in my opinion, but if Eminem's Encore can sell so much, anything can sell.
