View Full Version : Singapore Theme Week: Discussions of theme weeks all in here!!

I was looking around the International forums and found that Malaysia and Thailand have their own theme week discussion thread. So why not we have it also? I believe that it is going to be interesting for us Singaporeans to have our own theme weeks. From what I know, I think we had a National Day theme week last year. Correct me if I'm wrong.
So, discussions of Singapore theme weeks are all in here. Come in and discuss!!
Can I get a mod to make this thread sticky? Thanks!!

great idea, im up for it! we shld haf something that's so singaporean. probably i can start with a few - singlish, SI, fines, fund raising shows, singapore pools - 4d and toto, red dot, singaporean dishes, or even places jay has stepped on in singapore - since we're so small
or probably even go along with wadeva campaign/festival that its happening now: festivals - we have plenty of them, and then campaigns there was the romancing singapore thing, speak proper english/chinese, even up to the eat-with-your-family-day. :bleh:
just throwing in some thoughts

Thanks for your suggestion, cuso4!!
Is there any festivals coming soon?? If not, I am thinking of having a theme week on tourist attractions in Singapore like Orchard Road, Sentosa, Singapore Zoo, etc. What do you think? Hmm...maybe we can help to bring more tourists into Singapore like that!! :D

Ok. we shall have a Singapore Singers and Musicians Theme Week. Shall we start this theme week on the 8th May? We got about three weeks to prepare for this. Is it ok?
We also need to assign people to pick their favourite Singapore singers and musicians for this theme week or else more than one people will be having the same artists. Two or maybe three repeats is ok, but not more than that. What do you think? And I'll pick Liang Wen Fu for this theme week.
And also post your banners in this thread before this theme week officially starts so that we can give some comments on the banners and maybe change them slightly before the theme week officially starts.
There are quite a number of Singaporeans in this forum. But are we the only ones who are intetrested in these theme weeks? :worry: We need more people!!!!

tangwk1990
04-18-2005, 02:18 PM
Yup, it starts on the 8th May. I've just posted it on the calender. Check it out!!
I would prefer if we can pick those who are not so popular, like Dreamz FM, Joi Tsai, Kit Chan, Celest Chong and Shi Kang Jun. And we should also have some doing the musicians like Dick Lee. I've taken Liang Wen Fu already because he used to study in my school!! :excited:
Anybody knows Vanessa-Mae? She is a well-known violinist. So, anybody taking her?

ooh, can non-singaporeans participate? I really love Celest Chong's songs!!! So if I were allowed to participate, I'd choose her. maybe you guys can mention this thread in your signatures - then more people would notice it.

Hmm...basically, we are going to make banners that is related to the theme. Like what tangwk1990 had said, it is a Singapore Singers and Musicians Theme week so we are going to make banners of our very own local artists. I hope that you can understand...
I think I'd choose Vannesa-Mae, but my photoshopping skills aren't that good. Hmm...maybe I'll consider first.

Erm, klarence, I'm afraid to say that this theme week is only for Singaporeans. So sorry about that.
:hmm: why can't a non-singaporean join the theme week. Theme weeks around the forum are known to have "honorary" members. That means, members not of the group just join in because they are interested in the theme at hand. We've had usergroup members have crossed borders to join another groups' theme weeks... Like the current KANR theme week, we've adopted Lisa already. Sean has joined the Thai weeks before... etc etc
Theme weeks are supposed to get members to have fun, it's supposed to be an "inclusive" activity, not an "exclusive" one. Basically, I don't see why Klarence can't join if he likes SG/SG artiste.
tangwk1990
04-19-2005, 11:06 PM
Ok, I'll include Klarence. I didn't know that theme weeks are like that. :bleh: My first time organizing a theme week. So sorry about that!!

ping bee, of course you can still have Yan Zi! The point is to have fun, I don't think it matters very much if the singer is 'repeated'. Maybe you can have a banner featuring Yanzi, but stating one of Yanzi's songs that was arranged by Kenn C?

I'll edit the picture using Microsoft Picture It! (don't want to install Paint Shop Pro again, too lazy to do that...zzz) and animate it using Jasc Animation Shop. I expect that the end product will be plain and simple...

Or do you know what is the name of their music school?
i am having problems here...
klarence
04-24-2005, 07:59 AM
hey petricia,
have you tried yahoo! image or image search on google? That's what i always do. it might be more effective if you type in their chinese names and search on yahoo! taiwan. if you search on yahoo! singapore ,english is probably more common.
cuso4
04-24-2005, 08:22 AM
petricia: i'm not sure where to find but you can try to goggle singapore, you could probably find their pics from mediacorp or i-weekly websites. their school is called li wei song ying yue jiao shi(li wei song music school) - if i'm not wrong, but it still consists of their name. klarence may be right to say to find in chinese characters instead. no harm trying :D
klarence: yay! i saw the link! hurray for singaporeans thread. u aren't from singapore right? where are you from? all right thanks for the pics  i'll get down to business when i get time to make those banners. haha.

Heyz singaporeans. I'm not good at making banners so dont think can join you people in this theme week and since somebody is taking Stef Sun and everyone actually knows her, i guess it will be okay for me to be out of this.
P/S" why no one added Corrine May into the list? For everyone's information, she's a composer too. She's actually the original singer cum composer (if i didnt remember wrongly) of the song Journey; the song Angela Zhang ShaoHan sang in HaiTuanWanLianRen.

05-16-2005, 03:40 PM
Cuso Hmm, I thought I have told you before? So is my nick "diao" or not? :bleh:
Well if anyone has any other whacky ideas for our next SG theme, please kindly post and we discuss over it. :D
klarence
05-17-2005, 03:34 AM
lol sean, yup you have a diao nick. where does the "n" come from though?
wow, the theme week's over so quickly!
fukakyon
05-17-2005, 04:25 PM
Klarence I take it you're refering to my nick. Well, I leave that mystery to Cuso since she know the answer, but do ask her privately if you insist on. :D
What about introducing various SG tourists spots as our next theme?
Or since Initial D crew is approaching S'pore, we set "Initial D" as our next theme?
cuso4
05-17-2005, 04:38 PM
i was wondering about that too... :hmm: where did that 'n' come from! *pushes the responsibility of the explaining back to fuka*
i think we should leave a initial d in singapore theme week when its nearer to the date when they arrive... it'll be the climax of our jay-is-acting-in-initial-d craze! wait. climax sounds... :worry: i thought the tourists spots one is good... and maybe we can add an element of jay in it maybe going something like... 'Jay was spotted!' or something. :D
Hey guys, sorry for not taking part in the previous theme week. I'll definitely take part in the upcoming one. And you guys had very nice banners indeed.
Anyway the ideas fukakyon suggested are good.
We should hype up the Initial D release especially when Jay our wonderful man is coming.
I especially like the idea of "I spotted Jay at ..." idea. Let's list the places where he's dropped by or has been rumoured to like to visit.
cuso4
05-17-2005, 04:51 PM
i shall start the listing... when jay comes to singapore, the first thing that comes to my mind is chicken rice. at beach road.
heeren, that's all i can come up with. he's usually here for a few days only, not enough to visit so many places. why not we come up with places that jay has never been to before like...
'i spotted jay at the mandai zoo!'
or 'jay was tanning at sentosa!'
eunicezy
05-21-2005, 05:23 PM
I like the idea of "I spotted Jay at ..." theme week too! There is so much that we can do for this theme week. Is there any place where tourists loves to go, even though its not a listed tourist of attractions? :?
or 'jay was tanning at sentosa!'
Hee, cuso4, I know you can't wait to show us topless pics of Jay. :brows:
fukakyon

Hmm, I did a little research on our local "delights" as in tourists spots.
To view more, please kindly visit to the following link: Here (http://singapore.tourism-asia.net/#welcome-to-singapore)
Some of the famous places are like Clarke Quay, Boat Quay, S'pore Zoo, Night Safari, Orchard Road, etc.
Eunice What about City Hall area or even Bugis Street? Ah, "Ai Xiao De Yan Jing", lovely song. :wink2:

05-22-2005, 03:46 PM
Woohoo~! The idea of "I spotted Jay at ..." is a very good & creative one! =D
Hm...when will the next theme week start?
The avatars/banners must have Jay in the pic right? (oh manz...this is a dumb question)
Wow!! Theme weeks!! I had not participated in one!!
So, we're talking about popular places in Singapore right?? That's seems to be a good one. We can attract more people in JCNET to come to Singapore. JCNET is an international site.
As eunicezy suggested, why not we have the "I spotted Jay at (Insert a popular place in Singapore), doing whatever things like playing basketball, driving his antique car, etc. It's going to be hilarious like that and at the Same time, we can attract more people to come to Singapore!!
I can suggest a few (erm..I'm not that creative, hope you guys can make them funnier!!!):
I spotted Jay
-driving an antique car at New Bridge Road (or any other popular roads in Singapore)
-eating KFC at Orchard Road
-strolling at the Botanical Gardens
-learning to fly at the Jurong Bird Park
-trying out our local food at Newton Food Centre (Or Lau Pa Sat)
-walking around Little India

Yeeps, I can't believe I actually missed the last theme week. ><
Anyways, am looking forward to the next one still! =D Yup yup, I like the 'I spotted Jay at...' idea, it was creative and we can let the others know how beautiful Singapore can be!
Thanks Sean for the webbie too! It'll be uber helpful to those who needs some ideas for their banners. :hugz: Haha, and I finally know where your username came from. XD
I'm fine with any date that you guys set for the theme week, since the june holidays are coming up. (and i have nothing to do.)
cuso4
05-23-2005, 12:36 AM
its best if jay was in the banner, makes the whole thing funnier! :D
fuka: thanks for the webby... more ideas = getting my mind away from... sentosa.
spax: join us for the next theme week k! get more singaporeans to know about this thread... i never knew newton food centre was... lau pa sat. :shy: hahaha. learning to fly at jurong bird park.
Hee, cuso4, I know you can't wait to show us topless pics of Jay. :brows:
heh heh. that's was my plan! that's it, if this theme week is gonna start, topless jay(at sentosa) will be mine! *evil laughter*
 i sound like some pervertic sicko fan ready to pounce on jay anytime. somebody help me.
cuso4: What I mean was any other popular food centres like Newton Food Centre or Lau Pa Sat (Located near Shenton Way). Sorry if I phrased my sentence wrongly...><
I really wonder what would Jay do at these places..
Maybe Jay might be finding for durians at the Esplanade?? You know, Jay might mistake the Esplanade for a durian??? o_O

Cutie Grace Hmm, how did you know where my username orginated from? Did you stalk on me or someone told you? XD
P.S: I'm just puzzled, suddenly why there's a surge of people interested in my nick. Does that mean, I'm getting famous!? Yeah! :bounce:
Hey guys, that's a fantastic idea. Shall we get it done, let say in the June holidays period?
jay_fantasy8
05-23-2005, 04:25 PM
Adorable Sean XD: Aww...I'm so sorry, but I didn't stalk you, neither did someone tell me about it. :console: The super duper ultra Gracie discovered it all by herself! :shiny:
Aww..and getting famous? Gosh, my dear Sean is floating above the clouds all by himself. :worry: Hehes kidding! :hugz:
Yup yup! June holidays sound nice! =DD So the first week, middle, or near July? XD

05-23-2005, 05:12 PM
wow..the last theme with all various Singapore pride is wonderful...i had missed it.. :depresse: but this time round .. " I spotted Jay .." seems fun.. lol.. i would really like to spot Jay in Zoo taking photo with our ah meng..say cheese :D
cuso4
05-23-2005, 08:36 PM
YAY! looks like this thread is getting noticed... how about we set the 'i spotted jay...' theme week on the first week of june? before the intial d wave hits jcnet when everyone would be putting up initial d banners?
spax: oh. hahaha. silly me. i must have misread your post too. now that you mention it... how did i manage to read that one wrongly :?
no_pride
05-24-2005, 08:34 AM
I'm doing "I spotted Jay at Snow City!". Haha...I don't know if Snow City is considered as a tourist attraction in Singapore, but I found this really cute picture of Jay wearing winter clothes. =D
Hm...first week of the June holidays is fine with me. =) Woohoo~! Looking forward to the week! =)
Wouldn't mind if I take the Esplanade?? I'll try to make a banner saying that Jay confused the durian with the esplanade. You know, the durian-like roof of the Esplanade??
I won't be here so often for the first week. You know, my school have overseas camp and then I have to study for exams.... Haiz...O Level is coming, although I'm still in Sec 3... Have to get ready very early.....><
fukakyon
05-25-2005, 03:32 PM
If nothing goes wrong, I reckon we shall commence this theme week "I spotted Jay at .... (any place in SG)" between 13- 17 June, just a week before the arrival of the Initial D crew to SG. On top of that, I would like to see the ample support by everyone who is going to be part of this theme, else it's useless to even start it.
Arrgh....13 to 17 June.. I can't make it cos I'll be holidaying in Malaysia. Looks like I'm going to miss this theme week...=(
Is it alright if I put up my banners earlier, say 2 days before the theme week starts??
cuso4
05-25-2005, 08:39 PM
spax: its alright to put up your banners early and leave it there hanging when you go on your holiday. :D have fun in m'sia!
fuka: :bounce: let the theme week commence! *shows ample support*
smilepiggy
06-04-2005, 03:43 AM
hey! this thread been left alone for too long! hahas
fukakyon recommended having a theme week on 13-17june. jus before initial d hits town. like 'I spotted Jay at ..' thing.
if everyone's not free, we could have kinda a 'JAY's in town' thing around the week of the 21st.
yenny1106
06-04-2005, 06:44 AM
hello! didn't post in this thread cos actually i dun quite get it. how shld the banner look like then? pics of places in sg n some words like 'i spotted jay here' or sthg? then can promote singapore haha..
jay_fantasy8
06-04-2005, 07:06 AM
yenny: A picture of a place in singapore, placing Jay in the piccie and words like 'I spotted Jay at 'blah blah'. XD That's probably how the banner should look like. Hehes, and squeeze out some creativity in it too! =P
smilepiggy: Hmm, so you mean we could have another theme like 'Jay's in town' week? :? Hehes, maybe let's try to focus on this 'I spotted Jay' theme week, see whether are there many more members taking part in it, if not, then discuss on the next theme (though i like the current idea pretty much) or propose a more suitable date? Loads of time ahead! :D
Yippee! June 13-17, I can make it! =) So where are the others? :shifty:
cuso4
06-04-2005, 03:34 PM
should we book the date on the calendar soon? say 13th to 20th june? and 21st onwards everybody can be happily putting up their intial d banners...
fukakyon
06-05-2005, 12:38 PM
Finally this thread is revived!
Yes, personally I will opt for "I spotted Jay at ... (any places in S'pore)" rather than restricted to town area only. We'll have more choices of place to choose from.
By looking on the response, I reckon our upcoming SG theme "I spotted Jay at ..." on 13-17 June is confirmed yeah! If no-one voice out any objections, I'll go and book the following dates for the theme tomorrow.
Edited on 07 June:
I've booked the following dates for the event. Let stay tune and rock n' roll!
jay_fantasy8
06-07-2005, 05:16 PM
Yay Sean! Thanks for booking the dates! =D
Yup yup, and people squeeze out some brain juices for your upcoming banners now! :shifty: Oh, and it starts on next Monday. =) *starts searching for drooling piccies of jay*

I think I use the same photoshop approach as you.
Cuso That's very colorful and fanciful! Initially I thought it's Suntec - Fortune of Wealth, then until I read your top heading in your banner. Great work!
no_pride That's chillin'! Spotting Jay at Snow city is no easy feat! LOL! :D
Ta-daa! Presenting my banner... I spotted Jay taking pictures in Holland Village. I used to frequent Holland Village for dinners or drinks during my poly days. :D

yenny: did i see jay posing beside the flamingos? not bad... he can pass for the tourist look. :D
STB should give us credits for promoting singapore.
that's it? MORE PEOPLE! i wanna see more banners! where has everyone gone?
cuso4: i like your set, it's so pretty... the colours.
yenny1106: nah, yours is not dumb at all. it's very cute... the idea of jay willingly posing with flamingos. all that pinkiness will make jay very happy.
jay_fantasy8: yeah i agree with cuso, your banner looks so natural! haha i thought jay looked a little like indiana jones, with the get-up and the ancient temple setting.
fukakyon: i like jay's pose! yeah holland v's got lotsa good food, jay should make it his new singapore hangout.
no_pride: plain and simple things are the best! i wonder if jay gets rosy cheeks if it's very cold. so cute! *pinches*
here's mine... sorry i'm a little late as usual. here's presenting Jay with our beloved Ah Meng. hee~ it's somewhat like a very tropical theme, orangutan with flowers and a boy strumming a guitar. :-)

smilepiggy: cute banner there! of course we love promoting singapore, we've got to be proud singaporeans eh? jay's coming to singapore! YAY! :excited:
jaylun: i thought you pulled the effect off nicely, especially with the yellowed parts like in an old photo... jay looks just like a lost chinaman with those huge glasses, accompanied by the old shophouse buildings. :bleh:
YAY! there are more people now, i was still afraid only a few would take part. may our future theme weeks grow in er... popularity! :bounce:

jaylun_rox In Chinatown!? That's a smart move! He can deal with the stalls and people easily there. :brows:
Smilepiggy Esplanade!? Haha, it seems that he has a tough time dodging the pointed edges of our "durians". :D
gnipuhs & yenny Concidence? Both of you stalked Jay all the way to Jurong Birdpark!? Man, it's been a long time since I went there. My last time was during my primary school days!
ankh Your banner is diao too! How ironic that's to sing to the Orang Utan! Haha! Yeah why not, I'm sure Jay love the quiet and cosy ambience of Holland Village. You know, he don't like too much of publicity around. :wink2:
Charmy No worries about that! Studies come first, we always have another theme week. By the way, do you still have to stalk Jay, which all along he's by your side!?
Gracie Stalk me!? Oh no!! *runs* *stops & poses along* *runs again!*
Arrgh...I forgot all about this theme week!!>< I've been busy preparing for my holiday and then I just came back from Malaysia yesterday!! And today is the last day!?!?!?
I must say, you guys have really nice banners!!! =)
I must not miss the next theme week. It looks really fun!! =D

Hehe, looking forward to it! :excited:
National Day theme week?? That's great!! =) I believe that this is my first theme week that I'm going to participate....
How about this: Singapore - From the Past to Present? Or maybe: Over the 40 years....
Just thinking of some ideas....

yeah! Let's do a National Day Theme!!! Since Singapore is going 40... Let's do something to do with 40???
definitely! :D let's have red and white banners plastered all over jcnet... just make it such that there's a '40' in our banners. how about that?
like:
being 40 is still young...
40 is 39+1!
40.. 4 bloody decades!
to a 40 year old singapore... happy birthday! we still love you despite some peanuts. (i HAD to do that. :bleh:)
these sound like 40 year old birthday card greetings... :hmm:
my 400th post! there's a 40 in it too! :bleh:
*edit* its national day tomorrow! *crosses fingers hoping to see red banners around jcnet tomorrow*

I'm 1 day late! I was about to put up the banner yesterday when my modem disconnected and I had no way to re-connect again. Sigh...
Well, never mind. This is my simple banner. Only completed it yesterday!
And Happy Birthday Singapore! May you continue to prosper! Hehehe...

WAH! theres a number of red/white singapore banners around the forum! yay! good job everyone on the banners! :D i think all the red and white and all looks beautiful!
Well, this thread had been inactive for almost 3 months...
Why not we have a theme week on using proper English? I think that using Singlish is disgraceful to us Singaporeans, especially when we are in contact with people from other countries like here in JCNET. We must encourage people to use proper English so as to improve our English standard.
jaylun_rox
11-07-2005, 02:55 PM
^hmm. yep.
it would be fun to have another sg theme week.
especially meaningful ones, like what spax had suggested.
yes. it's good to promote proper english around here.

yea, good idea (:
i am all in for this fab idea!
NeoTheOne
11-07-2005, 03:36 PM
spax even though it is not appropriate to use Singlish on forums, please do not condone it like this. It has its fair share of culture and speakers. Dont undermine and condemn anything. Spare a thought for others. =]
anyways using proper english should not just be a theme week, it should last. as much as I say its a good idea...just...can we do something more thrilling? haha, I mean for those who already use proper english etc it can be quite dull. If you get what I mean.=D
NeoTheOne: Well, sometimes I tend to be more serious on such topics. I'll try to make my posts more friendly the next time. ;) But I think I'm too used to type proper English that I sound too serious for you guys..
Anyway, how should the theme week be like? When should we start the theme week? Are there only so few people that want to participate in this theme week??
funkaeh
11-09-2005, 03:33 AM

from what neotheone has suggested, how abt making "speak good english" a campaign for Singaporeans in the forum and we have a separate themeweek?
hamtaro
11-09-2005, 09:54 AM

Hmmm, I was just thinking, since in Singapore the Clean and Green Week is on, why not have something about conservation or keeping our environment clean and green?? haha... sorry if you guys don't like such topics, just giving some ideas! =)
Yap! For Theme weeks, we will make banners relating to the themes and then putting them as our signatures!

its alive! the thread's alive!! :bounce:
i haven gotten enough of november's chopin's avatars and banners though... let's have a Singapore Loves November Week!
we can have banners on anything amazing things happening during november, maybe your holidays? end of exams?(oh yeahhh) releases of movies? (harry potter!) festivals? your mother's birthday? your dog's birthday? ... so i can have the excuse of making another keeping my November's Chopin's banner.
hamtaro: not to worry about banners as long as there's me! i can make one for you if you request.
NeoTheOne
11-10-2005, 08:35 AM
lol, people actually know their dogs birthday? I mean if you bought it from a shop, they would let you know?
November is the BIG O LEVELS conclusion! and the end of four years of secondary school life, ok it sounds like fun. I dont mind this theme
Talking about banners, I just realised that I have no proper software like Photoshop to make my banner. Besides, I can't even make a good banner. Just look at mine and you'll know that I cropped it from an original image and just added some words.. >_< I seriously need some help...
Singapore Loves November Week...that seems fun!! =D I just can't think of any amazing things happening this time round....
jaylun_rox
11-11-2005, 05:43 AM
Hey.
Singapore loves November sounds good! (:
Im definitely going with it!
but then again, i go along with anything. x=
so it's confirmed? this theme? when?
yay! i can't wait.
and haha, spax, you could probably ask cuso4 or some other kind souls to help you. ;)

11-11-2005, 06:19 AM
so does this mean we can start this theme next week?
is there any official host or something?
Shall we have it from the 20th to 26th November? We have one week to prepare our banners and avatars. I think one week should be enough for us to prepare. And, O Level ends in that week, is it?
Still only a number of people interested in this coming theme week? I shall go around to PM other members to encourage them...
petricia
11-11-2005, 06:59 AM

11-11-2005, 07:25 AM
yup I agree, maybe we have it as the first week of december? that way, more people will be able to participate? and we will have time to notify others?
It's up to you guys. If you want it to be in the first week of December, we must see whether other members agree with it.
I've just PMed some other members about the theme week. The more the better!!! =D
jaylun_rox
11-11-2005, 07:37 AM
December is also fine with me..
but. im won't be in SG on the 28th Nov to 5 dec.

11-11-2005, 08:55 AM
haha..
thanks for inviting, spax
am really an idiot in making siggie and avie too..
maybe we can just decide on the date..
then the theme..
cause if you guys chose first week of December..
i don't think the theme of November's rite liao..
i don't think we have anythin much happening in Dec also.. :hmm:
Christmas?? O_o that's quite end of the month rite..

I received the PM today!
Hmm...not a bad idea..
Just decide the theme and date!

Christmas theme?
Year 2006 countdown?
Resolution for Year 2006?
Star Awards for Dec?
blah blah blah....

11-11-2005, 09:50 AM
maybe something thats totall unsync, like Winter In Singapore (1st week of december)
then everyone goes to make banners and depict their idea of winter in Singapore since it will never happen(till end of the world where the sun stops burning and ice age takes over)
ok just a crappy idea
=X
Now I really don't know what to do for this theme week... >_<
Maybe we can have some sort of games to accompany our theme week. How about that??

11-11-2005, 01:20 PM

NeoTheOne
11-11-2005, 01:31 PM
I think this discussion will run on and on before we could actually decide on something.
so shall we just have it on 1st week of december? at least we would have the date settled.
next, maybe everyone can brainstorm and come up with creative ideas for their banner.
the banner should have some form of relation towards,
december(like my personal idea is for winter season in Singapore)
and Singapore
and YOU.
there will be no limits to what you can do with your banner. think creative and out-of-the-box.
just my 2 cents worth.
sean-eka
11-12-2005, 02:09 AM
Hmm.. since harry potter is coming out in november, i think i would want to make a harry potter set? Haha.. Since this is a 'Singapore loves November' theme week. Heh.
what about others? have y'all decided?
spax: Thanks for the invitation. Very nice of you to PM everyone.
Anyway I think it's weird to have a "Singapore Loves November" theme week in December, since it's already over. I don't know why but it just feels weird for me.
Sorry for being critcial when I don't have any ideas to contribute. I'll be having exams till 30th November but I'll try my best to participate in this theme week. Meanwhile you guys make the decision and when you do, remember to register your theme week on the calender.

So what theme has been decided on? I would'nt mind joining. But, I guess I don't much ideas to share. To me, November 05 only makes me estatic as Jay's album will be out haha. :bleh:
Why not we have a December's Singapore theme week? Like what cuso4 and NeoTheOne had suggested, it's just basically showing what we are doing in that month, only that the theme week name has changed. The idea is almost the same as Singapore Loves November theme week..
Do you guys have a better suggestion??
NeoTheOne
11-13-2005, 06:04 AM

so we go with a 'Singapore Loves December' theme week? deal! :excited: can someone book the date at the calendar? i can't seem to be able to access it... :hmm:
anyway, it would be basically be anything that's happening in december that's close to you or in singapore. how can anyone not like december ... could be:
- an anticipated movie screening - Chicken Little! (numa numa numa ey~)
- birthday - MINE (gahahaha you can so tell what's going to be on my banner)
- Patty Hou's birthday
- holidays!
- end of year clearance sales!
- christmas
- new year countdown
- orchard road light-up
- rainy season all month - a blessing for singapore's hot weather
- Mediacorp's Star Awards - how come that sounded so unexciting compared to the rest
- Mayday's concert!
just to name a few ideas. :D
hope more people would come over to give their support. singaporean theme weeks are pretty not-so-BOOM-enough so far i've joined. :depresse:
anybody who might need a cool and funky banner(ah ha. ya right) can drop me a PM yeah?
Ok. So it is decided that we have the Singapore Loves December theme week. Shall we have it for 1 week from the 1st December?
cuso4: I'll book the date on the calender, after everyone confirms the date. It's still half a month away from December. ;)
NeoTheOne
11-15-2005, 02:28 AM
yup ok so its done.
singapore loves december theme for the first week of december. phew, finally we've decided on something
It's still 2 weeks away from our scheduled theme week, which is from 1st to 7th December. Wouldn't mind if everybody spread this message, like putting it in our signature such as mine? I hope many of us will participate. The more the merrier!! =D
And thanks rachelle03 for helping us to book the date on the calender!!

YEEPS! i just realised there's another SG theme week.
oooh, i love this idea, and i totally <3 the rainy season in december. definitely participating in this! ^^ lol, and please do join in the CS theme week! :D
Yeps, so happy to have a SG theme week after so long.
Thanks to all who initiated and suggested it.
I'm still having exams so I haven't thought of what to do yet.
Hmmm... December. *trying to conjure up some creative juices.
jay_fantasy8: CS' theme week looks so fun! I've seen some of the banners and I'm stumped already. Seems like I need to do revision on Jay's older MVs.
Hmm....shall we extend the theme week till the end of December? Because some of you here might be busy and have no time to prepare your banner when the theme week starts. It's okay if you join us later. Anyway, it is better late than never, right? ;)
And because it is December, it will be more appropiate to have this theme week for the whole month. And by extending the period, there will be more people participating! The more the merrier!! ^^
P.S. I also love the rainy season in December!! =D
cuso4
11-27-2005, 08:28 PM

i can do a banner for anyone as long as this thread comes more alive... come on people, participate! :depresse: *waves pompoms*

thanks minwen.. :hugz:

looking forward to it..
Well, I think we should span the theme week for two weeks because one week seems to be too short.
I hope more people can participate after extending the theme week till the 14th December. But then, I'll be away for holiday at that time... I will miss part of the rainy season in December.. =(
EDIT: It's still one day before the theme week starts officially and I can't wait to put up my banner and avatar!! =D Thanks cuso4 for making me the wonderful banner and avatar!!
Hope many of us will participate this theme week so that our whole Singapore sub-forum is decorated with all our beautiful banners and avatars!! And don't forget to introduce your banners and avatars here (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=13037) in the Social Lounge!!

Thank God! I'm finally done! *takes a deep breath*
I was supposed to finish my banner yesterday but I ran out of time.
The first one I did is a better one than my current banner.
Unfortunately,it is 3 MB in size!!!
And I dunno if there's a free image hosting service that can host
an image with a file size larger than 2MB.
If there is such, please tell me so I know where to upload
my animated images that are extra large in sizes.
Thankfully,I finished it at last. I hope it's okay. :worry:

jo_jayfan and esther: :thanks: for the positive remarks. :flowers:
You were the first two people who flattered me about my banner creation.
I always get negative comments with the banners I made before. :worry:
I spent three to four hours making that banner.
I spent one and a half hour searching for the pictures alone.
Thank you all for letting me join in this great theme week.
Guys, you sure are...er...Singaporeans. (dunno what to say. :bleh:)
Kindly finish that sentence for me.

jaychou_21, I'm gonna be the third person to compliment on your banner!
It really looks good and I agree with jo_jayfan that it seems like you're promoting Singapore for our Tourism Board! Continue creating animated banners in the future. Your banner would definitely catch many JCNetters attention!
Did you use Fireworks to create your banner?

To begin with,I appreciate your compliment on my banner.
Do I look like the one who promotes other country's tourism? :glug:
Sheesh...shame on me.
I never have done this yet to my own beloved nation. :worry:
But yeah,I did that because I like this theme week and best of all,
to show my gratitude to all the Singaporeans in this site.
My,you're a powerhouse in JCNET and I guess Singapore
is where the most number of JCNETters come from.
And about my banner... I didn't use Fireworks. I have never tried it.
Is that the program you use on making your awesome and beautiful banners? :?
I use U Lead GIF Animator in creating animated images. :wink2:

Oh I see, I haven used GIF Animator before. Is it easy to use? Are there many functions?
Normally, JCNetters will use Adobe Photoshop to design their banners and avatars. I'm one of them too. There are also other programs like Paint Shop Pro and free photo editing programs like GIMP.
Brent!! Your banner is really diao!!! =D
Suntec City, Raffles Place, The Merlion, Sentosa....how did you know all about these places?? You came to Singapore before??
I'm now in Taiwan, missing all the great stuffs in Singapore. But Taiwan is also nice!! Think I'm going to have a great time in Taiwan too!!

LOL, can stary, can Adobe be downloaded or must it be installed? hmm. want to try making banners too. hahas. i only can use paint now :? sigh.
jaychou_21
12-08-2005, 10:42 AM
Starylosophy: Yeah,I also use Adobe Photoshop.
It's just that I use my GIF Animator in making animated images
because it is really easy to use and the functions are good,
though not as great as Adobe Photoshop. :worry:
Spax: I haven't been to Singapore before.
But yeah,I knew those places because I'm a geography whiz. :geek:
Not really. But I love learning about other countries and their
cultures, traditions, and most of all,the beautiful sites in those far lands.
If there is one topic or subject I am good in,it would be geography.
I'm not Mr. Know-It-All but I can name all the countries on the planet
and their respective capitals as well. :shiny: That,I think,is my field of expertise.
I love to travel and I surely would love to set foot on Singapore someday.
It might happen soon... who knows?
Anyway,have a great holiday in Taiwan! :D
Watch your steps! You might bump into Jay or stumble upon him along the way. :bleh:
jo_jayfan: I used a lot of Paint before in making my banners
but the outcome is always either messy or just sucks.
I don't even know back then that there are so many better
free image editing programs on the net like Adobe Photoshop, etc.
so I was satisfied with the rather pathetic but quite useful Paint. :shy:
But if you want to create better images and do whatever you like,
you can download Adobe Photoshop for a free trial.
That program has all the functions you need in order to create, edit or animate images the way you like.
If you want to install the program for free, just PM me and I'll give you the link, okay? :wink2:

Haha, I guess jaychou_21 has answered your question, jo_jayfan.
Actually I guess Fireworks might be a good option too. Maybe you would like to try that software to make your animated banners.

Hey, jaychou_21.
Haha, nice banner. Animated somemore, aye?! Ehh, stary, i think using adobe photoshop is better, cause fireworks, is not as powerful as photoshop (as what my teacher has told me)
There's always a FREE adobe photoshop software, the elements version! You could go to www.download.com and find it!
- though after sometime, adobe will prompt you to get the software..
Starylosophy
12-08-2005, 01:57 PM
sean-eka, I think you've got me wrong.
I love Photoshop so much and I don't think I will use any other image editing softwares besides the newer versions of it. I meant that the animations can be done with Fireworks.
Yeah Photoshop is indeed more powerful than Fireworks.
(Just by comparing the amount of time the software loads up)
I personally use Fireworks for my graphic designing but it's always so limited.
And stary, how do you use Fireworks to do animations?
I know of that function but don't know how to do it.
Starylosophy

ankh, I've experimented with the animation tools before. But the animations did not turn out nice. I guess I've to read those online tutorials for more information on how to use the tools.
