Many of you probably know that Mariah Carey is now singing songs that are more into R&B / Rap than pop, like her new single with Busta Rhymes "Give You What You Want", I think that's what the song is called, which is really into R&B. Compare that song with her previous "I Can Make Through the Rain" which is really a pop kind of song. Which one do you think is better? I think she is better doing pop songs cos her image is just not into R&B type of music. But there was some news on MTV several days ago saying that she likes singing R&B more than pop. So, what do you guys think, her singing R&B or pop?

i say none of those songs, both of them are shocking in my opinion... i've supported her since i was 5 and i gotta say her style is getting worse from the time she released her rainbow album. that album was pretty ok, then came glitter (my gawd.....soooooo bad), then came charmbracelet (i thought she MITEVE improved, so i bought it anyway), and its just full of r&b songs, completely diff to her style she had perhaps 5-6-7 years ago, wen she had her number ones. the r&b songs she makes aren't even good, it just isnt her style. i just hope one day she'll wake up and realise that she should go bak to her old ways and release more songs like that (tho i'm not sure if ppl will still like em nowadays)

i think she should stick to her pop songs
she's really been disappointing me with her latest songs...infact i stopped listening to her music when she released her rainbow album and the last album i bought of hers was her #1's album and that was because i like all her older songs
i don't think her voice is really suited to R&B as she has a high sharp voice that is probably better suited to pop
stick to what u do best mariah...stick to pop

have to agree. i used to like mariah carey a lot when i was younger, but nowadays she seems to get odder and odder. i think she's got some serious mental issues which also affects her music. i don't listen to her music anymore, cos i really don't like her r&b stuff (it seems to me that the us market is full of that stuff which sounds pretty much the same  ) and her style in general.

I think my first song from her was "Can't Let Go."
She was great before. I don't know what happened. I guess she's getting old....

Yah, I agree with that. I really liked some of the songs on her #1s album. I think I started listening to her more after watching Rush Hour.... and then, I kind of stopped after I listened to the Rainbow album. Haven't followed any of her music since.
She was really great before... Don't know what happened. But, I always think that it's kind of hard for her. She has a good voice, just it's getting harder and harder for her to find her target audience. Now, probably only hardcore Mariah fans still really really follow up on what she's doing.

i agree with all you guys... mariah carey's old stuff was a lot better... i think she sings those soulful ballads better than r&b stuff. i love songs like "hero"... "through the rain" was ok but there was something weird going on with her voice. i think it was cuz of her breakdown. i dunno i still love mariah carey and i hate how the media makes her sound like such a freak. actually... i just plain dont like the media sometimes... stupid tabloids :-x

I personally don't like Mariah Carrey, but there's this song I really like from her, it's called "Hero" :wink2:
I guess she has an okay voice, she sing high notes, but that still doesn't change my mind bout her.
I don't know if she should go into r&b/rap though, but she ain't getting any younger... :yeah:

i really like da new song....give it to u or sumfink like dat...and me like her new look...very sexci worr ^^ hehehahhaa
personally i fink she good at ballads cos she got quite a strong voice that can hold out the longer notes...
but i like da rnb too! so yeah...she all rounder i suppose.....
and after all that slack she got for Glitter, both the movie and the album, shez able to re-invent herself and give it another go...good on her i really admire her courage and determination to stick it out in da music industry...^^

i haven't heard of any of her new stuff. last song i heard from her was "through the rain". i think her ballads are really nice, especially all the classic ones. she's definitely got a powerful voice and has one of the largest singing ranges amongst the divas. her r&b stuff is all right. but i don't think she has to wear skimpy outfits all the time. though i guess most female artists usually try to use sex appeal to attract attention. anyway, i guess mariah doesn't have the same status as she did 10 years ago with the changes in musical taste for the young people in this generation. so, if she's still treading on as princess bobo said, then i do admire her strength and determination as well as courage. she does have a great voice and can write good music.

I don' tknow if this is true, but i think she started getting into the whole 'r&b' music after she and the manager split or something (nooo idea).
I only like her slow and upbeat songs like 'Always Be my Baby' and 'Never too Far' (heaps more, but also like 'Baby I Cry').
I personally dont like mariah carey, i only like one of her songs "Hero" and i don't like the R&B song "I know wut u want" cuz i think her voice is high and screechy and annoying in that song. Her song make it through the rain is okay...in my opinion, her pop songs are way better.

I don't like Mariah Carey...she thinks she's hot and sexy and all which she's not...
And her voice isn't the style for R&B...

she wasn't really R&B until a couple of years ago, her older songs are ten times better than her recent songs.
she kinda went downhill after she released glitter.
and i agree with xJayChoux, she thinks she's hot and sexy but she's not.

I think that Mariah's Glitter Album wasn't that good too, but u have to agree that her charmbracelet album was good though
I think Mariah's one of the best female artists in the world, whether she sings pop or r 'n' b. Personally, I think she does them both really well. Like, two of my favorite songs from her are: 'Always Be My Baby' (pop) and 'Boy(I Need You)' (r 'n' b).
She has one of those amazing voices that can sing pop AND r'n'b and do them both equally well. So personally, I think she should continue to do both. True, most of her fans like her cause of her more poppy songs but she has also gained new fans with her r'n'b.
And I think it's important to her, as an artist, to be able to expand and grow, both musically and inwardly. I just hope she'll recover from that 'nervous breakdown' and get back into her music cause she's a majorly impressive and talented artist. Go Mariah, I say.

I think her voice is more made for pop. Her voice is great, but I think she hsnt got a typical rnb voice. Nevertheless I like her RnB tracks liek "Shake it off"

I strongly feel that she likes to combine R&B with pop.But what I don't like is how she likes to mumble sometimes & tries too hard that the high note that was suppose to sound good actually fades away into a mediocre tone.
But I was a fan of her older songs. It's just that she's running out of ideas like many other artists out there. So hopefully they all find some new inspirations somehow, meanwhile,I'll be chilling with my Jay Chou music lol.

though i love mariah carey's voice no matter what, but i'd have to say...i liked her back in the day, when it was fantasy, one sweet day, always be my baby, hero, without you. the classics. but, i don't blame her. everyone is changing. and with society now, the more skin you show, the more popular you are. either way, i just like her voice =)
