same here! my parents didnt really care bout jay until they heard hei se you mo... they think he has a good voice, n is very talented... but thats about all the interest they show... though, im kinda glad theyre not interested..
my dad is usually very scathing about the current batch of taiwanese and hk singers, as they mostly (in his opinion) don't have real talent as singers, and are in music not for creative pursuit but for money (which is mostly true). But he has a respect for jay since he writes his own songs, has actual "tin fun" (talent) in what he does and is motivated by creating music instead of cash.

Most Chinese people tend to look down on the success of fellow chinese because of jealously. So, that's an excuse the older generation can use to explain why don't don't like an artist they don't know about (-_-III).

My mom likes him, she thinks he's talented. A lot of the people that say they dont like Jay because he's ugly are just superficial; the ones who say he has ugly hair just don't understand asian pop culture/fashion, and the ones who say that he mumbles too much and is incoherent may be people who don't have a strong command of the chinese language and use that as an excuse for not understanding his mumblings (aka my cousin.)

Besides, the people who say that he sucks because he mumbles... well.. I'm assuming they can understand every single lyric in every single rap song as well?

Mom thinks his falsettos are immpressive! :wink: And recently she's been complaining that she's being 'brainwashed' becos I keep playing his CD's over and over, full blast. Lol.... I think that that's just her way of admitting that she's "kinda, sorta, maybe" starting to like Jay... hahaha... She even watched the super sunday clip with me like, 5 times and commented that she liked how he wasn't 'fake' and superficial like many other celebrities. My dad is really into music. He's got really good taste, nd not at all against popular styles, tho he usually listens to Beethoven and Elton John... *Criiinge* So it wasn't hard to get him to approve of Jay. I just put on 'Love Before Century' for him and he was already singing along... I know he admires Jay's talent of being able to compose nice songs, becos lately he's been urging me to compose my own songs... Lol. I juss laugh and say I would, if I had Jay's talent. I think that's it's not that easy, and sometimes you just have to be born with these kinds of things.

Well, neither of my parents can understand what he says... My mom has sat in my room for hours while I got her familiar with his music, so she's heard about every song... But not with the same giddy enthusiasm as mine... She likes him though, she thinks he's extremely good looking and has a soothing voice (hehe)...

i think my parents know him from the several magazines but i think they were surprised when i bought his album and played it on day and night! i was watchin the one concert on vcd and my mom came in and was like, who is that? i said it was jay. jay who? zhou jie lun! oh, so that's how he looks like. then i told her he is way better thatn f4 and she was like, so why do you like f4? haha :lol: then my dad came in and acted all surprised when he saw jay he was also like who is that! and then later commented on how he was so indifferent from other artists. guess that's a compliment.

My parents are the same way... Before my parents didn't like him too much because they could never understand what he was saying. My mother was a bit more open to it because she's used to the kind of music I listen to. My father calls this "the new style of music" as he doesn't even place it in the same category as other Chinese music. He seemed to think her style was similar to Sun Yanzi! What?! But he still had a certain level of respect for him because he wrote a song for his favorite singer, Zhang Hui (I like her too btw, probably the only here who does...).

But after they went with me to see him in Las Vegas, their level of respect has just skyrocketed. My mother loves his voice haha, though she still complains she could only understand one sentence during the whole concert, she says he has nice melodies and good voice control. My mom did something real corny recently.
I usually put Jay's pic beside my bed when I go to sleep :roll: and keep the pic when I wake up in the morning, so nobody knows about it. That day it just slipped my mind and after looking at the little pic of Jay in the morning, I just left it lying on my bed.
I'm a real mess at home and such a pig I dun even make my own bed! So when my mom came came in to make my bed, she found the pic there.

Well... at first, my dad (when I forced him to listen to Jay) accepted it, because before I was listening to Eminem ("angry music") and bands like Linkin Park/NFG/Good Charlotte ("loud music"), and then later on he started to really enjoy it. My mom thinks he's got substance and his music is unique, but after listening to Ye Hui Mei, she thinks he's getting repetitive, which is so not true. She thought "Ti Tian" (Track 10) is special though, which I totally agree with.

My father, on the other hand, thinks he's a flash-in-the-pan. Despite being a total nationalist and sharing Jielun's nationality, he seems totally unmoved by Jielun's Taiwanese-ess. Not that he should be, but yeah. Thus, he calls Jielun an idiot. Which is not true. But he thinks all popstars of today are idiots regardless of who they are and what they sing so I guess Jielun ain't exactly exclusive to that so-called title.

My folks don't really give me a hard time about liking Jielun, 'cause fact is, I like his music more than I like him, and the only Jielun merchandises I buy are his CDs. I hope nobody complains that I haven't done my homework before posting here. The thing is, I don't know what my parents think of Jay. My dad is no longer around... so I can't ask him anymore. It's not like we had a good relationship anyways. As for my mom, she's in Malaysia and I've been in the U.S. for more than 4 years now (haven't been home) so I haven't discussed music with my mom for a while. My mom normally accepts whoever I like though. She's a pretty cool and "modern" mom. But knowing her, she probably doesn't really accept rap music (she thinks that's not real singing) and she'll probably say that Jay's voice is too weak or "thin." She'll probably say that Jay isn't good looking either. However, I don't think she'll hate him or totally oppose to my liking him. Afterall, I'm 25 and I'm not spending her money on Jay's CDs and stuffs! I'm sure she'll like some of his slower songs. She knows how to appreciate good music. Afterall, she used to "force" both her children to learn to play piano/keyboard/organ for more than 10 years. :)

Great question! My dad actually really disliked Jay at first. He thought he was too ugly. He would never buy me anything Jay related because he thought it was a waste of money. I finally made him listen to his songs and watch his MVs. He thinks Jay sings pretty well now and says his looks have improved. Now he buys me anything I want Jay related! I think he really likes Jay now because he keeps asking me if I have any new Jay clips for him to watch. He actually thinks he raps well. His favorite Jay songs are: Shuang Dao, East wind Breaks, and 3rd year 2nd Class. :laughing: Ha ha...I'm happy that he finally sees the Jay I see. :D

hi kai lien! u are so great........u turn a person who dislikes jay into the opposite! my mom , is the same as most moms, doesnt see the point in jays songs, she doesnt know what he is singing, i dont blame her, coz i dont understand too especially when its new and i havent look at the liricks yet, but music need not only be appreciated with the lyricks, the melody itself matters most.......and also she sorta hates the way he talks , mummbles...but i dont think she hate jay as a person, just the way he talks. and also, the funny thing is........my grandma, seems to be able to appreciate jay more than my mom do.....that really impress me.......she says that jay is not bad, he is talented and she is impress that his albums sold millions ......well she is a granny who keeps very updated with entertaintment news...so she knows who is famous and whos not.

When i played jay's song on the car radio.....my dad was like 'what kind of songs are these' :oops: and i said 'mandarin' he was like 'is it hell' and i told him 'what do you know about music' :laughing: l so now i play it to annoy him :wacko: in the car because a 15 minute drive to work is so boring :sleeping: so having jay's songs in the background makes the journey more quicker.
