Anyone from Texas? There's got to be a lot of Jay fans in our wonderful Lone Star State

I live in Plano (near Dallas). Where does everyone else live?

hahaha, as u know, i went to san juan, rio grande for my spring break. i think texas is beautiful! and the one thing that totally amazed me was the number of state flags in texas!!! as we were driving down dallas-san antonio-corpus christi i saw a texas flag like every few minutes!! and oh its so cool! there are palm trees in southern most texas!! :D went to the beach at south padre island. nice beach, but looks like the hang out place for old and retired people!!

lol now that u mention it yeah Texas DOES have a lot of state flags.
I never really thought about it...
How many states out there hang their flags at grocery stores? :glug: I guess only us.

*doesn't know the Texas pledge*

hi fishie, fungi, and karen!

hey fishie, i've been to your city before! I was thinking of the name, and then i read that you said "Plano". It's a really nice city. The houses are so big (and i heard relatively cheap too). My aunt used to live there, in a brick house. lol. I also visited this ranch or something that used to be the setting of a tv show (i think).

Are there lots of asians there? or hispanics?

littlefishie
04-08-2005, 01:59 AM
In case anyone wanted to know the Texas pledge...

Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible.

 They make us say it in school...

Hehe, klarence, Plano is a very nice place, although it's considered a rich town as compared to the cities around it like Richardson and Garland. Hehe, there are a whole lot of Asians and Hispanics. Texas, in general, has a lot of hispanics, and I swear at least half of my school is Asian...

Hello!

I am from Dallas and i know Plano verry well. However, I have lived in Atlanta for the last year and a half. I am actually back in Dallas right now but will be relocating to Seattle in the next 2 weeks (I CAN'T WAIT!!!).

Now, to give my $0.02 on Dallas....
Dallas has always been known for a very large asian and hispanic population. but no questions asked the hispanics dominate a very very large chunk of our pop.

The most concentrated areas of asian businesses has always been in the suburb of Richardson, however they can be found all over. The Royal & Harry Hinds area is commonly refferred to as K-Town and there are a very large number of korean businesses there. I believe the Beltine & Josey intersection of S. Carrollton is currently in the proccess of turning in to a Little Siagon (if you havent been over there recently, the amount of Viet busienesses has multiplied).

BUT! Despite the number of asian businesses in the area, over the last couple of years Plano has become the hands-down largest area of newly aquired asian residence. Probably due to the value of purchasing propertey in the area and the quilty of the Plano school system (vs. dallas). Specifically Chinese, just about every chinese person I know lives in Plano. And every asian that I know that has moved or purcahsed a house chooses plano.

Oh yea... and in IMHO, Plano is a rich city ( me from the hood )

I do like Houston, probably more than Dallas. If I moved back to Texas to stay I would most likeley move to Houston.

About or flag, people in Texas are pretty crazy about it. Probably due to our history. As many non-Texans do not know, Texas is the only state that is allowed to fly our flag the same height as the US flag. There are also a bunch of nuts here in texas that believe that one day Texas will be it's own republic again.
(If anyone isnt familiar with TX history we have been ruled under 6 diffrent flags (Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, Confederate States of America, United States of America) it is actually quite interesting. I appologize for pointing out he obvious, but if you live near a Six Flags amusement park. that is where they got their name. they started in the Dallas area (six flags over texas, in arlington texas) and then bought like every large park, everywhere)

Any way....
enough blabbing

allen, you like houston!? there's like.. nothing to do here )= only a few good places to eat at chinatown and galleria is the only good mall [despite what everyone says that memorial city is good too.. its only pretty to look at, lol]

allenlikewo
06-19-2005, 01:43 AM
There isnt much to do in Dallas either and just about everything you can do in dallas can be done in houston too. Frankly, there is only so much to do in any city.

At least Houston actually has a Chinatown, Dallas doesnt. Technically Houston has 2. The orginal Chinatown downtown where Kim Son is (mmm....kim son...) and the more newly developed chinatown on Bellaire Blvd.

But one thing really stands out for me about houston over dallas, the beach is only an hour away. On top of that you are closer to Texas' other cities and to New Orleans.

IMO, I will agree that the weather and traffic in Houston are much worse than dallas, but if you can put up with that then I think Houston is a more entertaining city.

Oh yea...the underground thing downtown is ingenious and AWSOME! and so is the aquirium resturant (cant think of its name) where you are basically sitting underwater.

junnleenfaah
06-19-2005, 08:44 AM
the aquarium [sp?] in downtown. yeah.. its been up for a good few years now and i STILL havent been, lol. well the original chinatown is practically non-existant now.. except for a bunch of viet places. and like, the only place i dont mind going to in the now chinatown is star snow ice for boba :9

but the beach.. pft! its ugly water! BROWN! i'd definitely prefer a cali beach instead.. haha

allenlikewo
06-19-2005, 10:03 AM
I agree about the beach being nasty and anyone in their right mind would prefer a Cali beach. But I have still always enjoyed ocean even if wouldnt consider getting in it.

I actually lived with a viet family for like 4.5 years and the last few times i have went to houston was with them. So naturally, every where we went was viet...so now that I think about it you are right.

Honestly, I am just really sick of Dallas but as I stated earlier I will be in Seattle very soon and I cant wait.

junnleenfaah
06-20-2005, 07:45 AM
haha well have fun in seattle (: probably a lot more to do there, i'm guessing [i've never been to dallas, lol]. man.. i wish one day i could move to cali. that would be bliss.

allenlikewo
06-20-2005, 05:18 PM
If i could afford to live in Cali right now I would. I left dallas almost 2 years ago and tried to move to Cali but didnt bring enough money. I had no idea that Cali was so damn expensive. Once I started running low on money I called my best friend in Atlanta and moved out there instead.

Though ATL was cool....wasnt really for me, so I am headed back west!

I think Seattle will be cool, plus it isnt far from Vancouver. I understand you can ride the train there pretty easy.
Ultimatly I would like to spend some time in China but for now the west coast will work. If China starts looking too far out of the picture I may start applying for jobs in Cali agian.

BE SAFE!

jayx8318x
09-23-2005, 03:55 AM
I hope you guys will be safe. Some of my relatives left at midnight (!!) and they're still not in Dallas yet, and it's almost 9pm. They're only in Conroe which is normally only an hour drive from where they're at. It's insane

I hear people are just getting outta their cars and PUSHING it to save gas, bc there's no gas left at all.

junnleenfaah
09-23-2005, 06:29 AM
yeahh, a whole bunch of cars are stalling and running out of gas. its like massive chaos on the highways. my brother's friend left friendswood [southeast-ish of houston] at 9pm last night and called my brother around 2pm today saying how they were only at mason road which is on i-10, still west of houston. it's freaking crazyyyy

Hello! I'm new and I live in Texas. Dallas area, more specifically Coppell. I'm a rather lazy person so I won't commit the effort of searching for any 'Coppell-ians' as it were. But anyways...

I've been a Jay fan for about half a year (my friend Stephen introduced me after watching the movie 'Hidden Track' from HK) and stumbled across this site while searching for Chou's discography. I hope to be a good member of this forum.

Okay... I go to R. L. Turner High School, which isn't as ghetto as everyone makes it out to be. I'm a senior.

Oh yeah, I'm a guy. Just to make that clear.

To all the Juniors that posted a page earlier, yeah, work hard through that year. After that, it's smooooooooooth sailing, hehe.

Well, I mean, it's always hard to adjust to a new year, but after a while, you get used to it.

Especially if you've worked yourself over for the past 3 years.

For example, this semester I have 2 real classes out of 7.

Next semester... 4. :D

p-town as in pearland?

everyone calls their city/town *insert first letter of city*-town.. and it makes it difficult. -_-

but anyway, jay's probably never going to have a concert down south. not enough fans. let alone, not enough asians. at least compared to cali =P but he usually does come here once every two years [or at least that's what he's donw within the past four years]. he already came last year, so he's not coming for 2005, but there may be a chance he'll come in 2006! there's no news or conformation yet, so no one knows. we only cross our fingers that it'll happen (= and IF he does come back to the states, it'll most likely be in cali or vegas and then somewhere on the east coast.

Grapevine Mills is pretty too, but since it's so far I've only been there like twice. >>"

Oh I forgot Firewheel [in Garland, a cute outdoor center] and Allen Premium Outlets [which I've been once & didn't really like]. And Valley View [where I've never been] and the Galleria in downtown. And of course, all those expensive places that I've never been to..

Yep. I live on the East side. Right now I go to Williams HS & next year I'll be at Plano East Senior High. :D Can't wait to get out of Williams! Maybe you've heard about it..? It kind of has a reputation [of sorts] for being 'ghetto' if you know what I mean..

Back in middle school we were under the impression that there was a fight at Williams every day, but that was just a huge exxageration. -__- However, there WAS one week last semester where all the 'gangs' were acting up & we had like 5 fights in one day. And there was a rumor going around that the Mexicans were going to shoot all the white people. Like they apparently had a 'list'? And extra security & dogs had to be at school and everything. But nothing happened in the end..

Hmm, I have a friend that lives/goes to school in Carroltton I'm pretty sure. Should ask him about that someday~

Plano really isn't that interesting.. But I believe our district is one of the top in the state? Probably just because of the rich people in West, even though Frisco's richer. Or the fact that we have the IB program [my senior high gives out the most IB diplomas in the state I think].

One of my friends goes around calling the district the 'Plano Nazis'.. XD

sushii
02-26-2007, 01:25 AM
lol Plano Nazis?!?! woah... oh so you're a sophmore..yeah thats right plano senior high has both juniors and seniors. woah are you serious five fights in one day? thats soo extreme..the fight at my school are super lame..they fight over nothing at all..and when they fight all they do is push each other..no fun for the audience..and there so stupid to fight out in the open..they fight in the cafe and the principles office is like right about it..-_-

xLiFEerasedx
02-26-2007, 01:40 AM
Haha. Yeah usually the fights are over nothing at all.. once this girl got in a fight with another girl over her ex-boyfriend?! She just needed to get over him. And the fight was boring too.. just hair-pulling & cussing.

I remember this one that happened in 6th grade though.. a guy got thrown onto a table in the cafeteria & his nose started bleeding. Yep I think that's the most interesting fight I've seen. I tend to miss all of them.. >>"

Whenever a fight happens though, it takes a while to stop 'cause you know how everyone starts crowding around to look? Well, our school is pretty crowded so if there's something going on the teachers can't get to it really quick since everyone's in the way. Once this girl like got run over almost. 0_o And they've actually had to pull us out of class to tell us not to stop & watch whenever there's an 'incident' in the hallway. -__-"

sushii
02-26-2007, 01:58 AM
lol.i think all fights are lame... in middle school..somehting happened between the afrian americans and the mexicans..and the african americans went up on stage and was like "welcome to the alamo" or something like that to anger the mexicans..i thought something big was going ot blow up between the two.but nothing happened..eck! the girl got run over? i hope shes okay..and i what i hate the most is like one person cheers in the cafe..everyone else all of a sudden has to cheer too...that has got to be the most interesting that has ever happened throughout my life here in texas...

xLiFEerasedx
02-27-2007, 05:57 AM
Yeah, it's either something about race or jealousy over relationships. >__>;

Hah I know! Like when people randomly say 'BOOOO' for no reason, everybody says 'BOOOO' too & they don't even know what they're saying it for. Or, if not booing, then random clapping..

Teenagers are just weird I guess? XD

sushii
02-28-2007, 01:04 AM
yeah..those darn teenagers..ahaha but it gets soo annoying..i'm glad i don't have to go to the cafe for lunch anymore..maybe its the bipolar weather of texas thats making those kids act up? haha i dunno..but speaking of bipolar. i'm going to terral (sp?) state mental hospital on the 5 for a field trip.nooo..i'm not checking in >.< anyone know where that is?

xLiFEerasedx
02-28-2007, 01:51 AM

who knew jay had so many fans in tx
what are the chances he'd ever come to dallas??
ha
tx has so many flags not just because it used to be it's own county, but because it's been a part of so many countries
tx under spain, tx under france, tx under mexico, tx under the confederacy, tx under the usa, and tx state flag
our state capitol is actually one of a kind and most unique in the usa just cause tx used to be a county.

Sorry, but I have not heard of this country club. But there are so many, cannot say that this one does not exist. Well have fun while you are here. San Antonio is a great place to visit, if you have not gone there. It is only 2 and half hours away from Houston. Also, there is Kemah Boardwalk. It is nice to visit. Well anyways have fun while you are visiting. Maybe the basketball season will bein and you can see Yao Ming. The games are usually hyped and fun. Seriously packed with people.

Sorry about your unfortunate plight to going to our car shows here. There are a lot of them, and they do end late. Everything closes pretty early here, except for downtown. Well San Antonio is my favorite place to visit in Texas. Well, I am sure there will be some San Antonians in this forum. Yeah gas is pretty steep. I wish I had a scooter. Haha yeah, I have a car...but I found an awesome scooter that doesn't look cheap, so I bought it to modify :D. Saves on gas too lol, spend about 4.20ish on fill up with 100+mpg.

SA is not boring to me. I do the River Walk. I go to Seaworld, Fiesta texas, and there is this Ice Creamery off of 35. I also check out the concerts at the River walk and at the Square in Downtown. Maybe you are bored because you live there. Like I live in Houston, and here can be boring since they closed down Astroworld. So the only attraction to me is the Houston Dynamo-Soccer and Houston Rockets-basketball. Other than that I am not sure what you acn do here. Bayou Landing is pretty nice since it does have authentic restaurants in Downtown, and concerts in the park. Hey a scooter sounds like heaven right now with the gas issue. I bought gas this morning and it went down to 3.79. That was good compared to some other areas. They are 4.05.

pho sho

Awww true that. Riverwalk is really fun at night, especially when no ones there :]. Mmm ice cream sounds good! Yalls downtown is so much nicer and looks cleaner haha. And yeah, yalls restraunts are a lot better too. Haha, sucks when we have to say 3.79 is good. But it's a lot better than most places in US.

Everyone die or what? It's quite in here lol.

Yes,
It gets kind of quiet in some forums. I get bored also, because some of the things are repetitive. So I guess no-one really have anything else new to say. I am a talker, so I will try to keep hope alive here. I agree with you about our restaurants. They are really good. I try not to eat out too much and do a lot of cooking at home. I am semi-veggan, meaning sometimes I eat like a vegetarian. I eat some chicken, but not a lot. But mostly fish. No red meat for me. I am not an animal rights person though. Meat is for eating. But that is why I prefer Asian dishes, because they have a variety of veggie dishes with flavor that I can choose from. If you come to houston, there is a restaurant off of Buffalo Speedway and Holcombe in a shopping center called "China Stix". The food there is totally gerat. I had a spicy soup that I ordered and it was Octopus. So I was shocked when I found out, but it was to die for. So is all the food there. You should go there when you come back to Houston. Hey by the way, gas is like 3.55 now. Whoohoo!

Aww that's cool! I used to eat like that but I kept getting sick :[. I wish I could cook, what do you cook? Actually I think I've passed by there once when I was picking up my friend. Maybe I'll go next time I'm in Houston. Should be going there soon to get some new clothes and Nikes before fall semester starts up. Octopus :[. Octopus balls are good though :D! Dang, getting cheaper! I should see what it is down the street from me.

I usually cook baked Tilapia with fried bananas and yellow rice. Baked chicken with yellow rice and steamed Broccoli and green beans. Sometimes Spaghetti with wheat pasta and spicy sauce. Just simple stuff. I can cook other special dishes, but only for my family in Florida. They get the special stuff.I am an island girl so I have to make sure I have some spicy foods. I will have to try the Octupus balls when I go back to the restaurant. Thanks!

You know that off of 290 West Northwest Freeway, they just opened up a new outlet for shopping. I heard that they have some nice stores out there. Maybe you can pick something up there when you come. Yes, check out the hole in the walls down the street. They have the best food.

Didn't know that. Might have to check it out since I'll be there anyway. Holes in the walls are the best places to eat :].

well. Houston is on the way to being normal. there are still traffic lights messed up, tons of fences down. tons of trees down. for the most part. lots of people lost power/ water for at least 3-4 days. but slowly everyone is getting power/water back. gas stations are still pretty packed and certain food cant be found anywhere haha but most schools are starting back up this week. i start school again tomrorow.

i think Ike is the worst hurricane recently. completely screwed up everyone's life. but houston is hanging there. anyone know about galveston ?

^Well good to hear things are getting back to normal :]. If yall need something and can't find it in Houston, I can look around San Antonio for yall and ship it or something if it's shippable. How high is gas there? :[
