I might be going back to Taiwan over the summer so I just wanted to know what are some good places to go for entertainment/food/etc.

I'm not really into sight-seeing unless it is really good. I've heard good things about the hot springs. I haven't been back in Taiwan in 13+ years and when I left Taiwan I was just finished with 1st grade so I don't know much about Taiwan.

Any advice or website would be nice (couldn't find much on Google)

Went Taipei last yr... the food is good and the weather is very cooling (went during Oct last yr)

You shld go to the night markets there... lotsa lotsa things to eat and buy there....

attached a link of a map on the MRT with the places of interest at each stop. I took their MRT to all the places around Taipei. Its very convenience and the people there are very friendly.

So envious of you all who can go Taiwan. I have been longing to go since my last trip there two years ago. Hope that this day could come real soon.

I agree it's pretty easy to get around in Taipei. All you need is a map and mrt and bus guides. With these, you will be able to explore Taipei. You can ask for help on the streets also. I feel that the people there are friendly and very willing to help.

I like the night markets, especially Shih-Ling. The food there is superb and quite a lot to shop also. For those clothes, bags, accesories, you can go Ximenting or Wu Fen Pu. For the latter, you can get nice stuff at a lower price, because they are sort of wholesellers, so you can get things at a lower price. Some of the shops in Ximenting or other night markets also got their stuff from this place.

i will be going to taiwan with my friends for a short graduation tour. mainly will be staying in taipei. there's lot to be done in taiwan! eg. u can visit those cultural villages (i went to jiu zhu wen hua chun), the ying ge pottery street (which is famous for their pottery, u can try ur hand making ur own creation), the salt piles, the theme parks, and of course the famous xi meng di shopping district which celebrities hold autograph sessions from time to time. not forgetting the famous night markets as well. as i were in taiwan for 3 weeks the last time i visited (being on a state-sponsered exchange tour) had the chance to bask in the taiwan atmosphere. it's splendid! and high chances of bumping into famous pple. the last time i went, i bumped into cocky Yang Cheng Lin (co-host of jacky wu's Guessx3 show) good luck to you!

You have to walk quite a bit to get to Omni if you alight at Zongxiao Dunhua station though. When I went there last year my legs almost died... but that could be because I'm unathletic and pathetic.

If you're going to Taipei, definitely visit the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Park. It's absolutely brilliant and I've always loved the koi pond. You can buy fish food to feed the fish too! If you're into shopping (like meeeee!), go to Xi Men Ding and Zongxiao East Road Sector 4. Take the Metro to Zongxiao Dunhua station and you're there. It's brilliant too; they have Mango and everything! Bwahahahahaha. Also, anyone who goes to Taipei without stopping by Taipei 101...hasn't truly visited Taipei. The surrounding shopping centres are awesome too, especially New York New York. But the downside is, the clothes are super pricey. I saw a gorgeous skirt that was selling for like, NT$4000, which is about two hundred sing dollars for Singaporeans. Ack!

I looooove Taipei! I'm so proud that I grew up there; bwahahahaha. The shopping there is phenomenal, really. And yes, the night markets are awesome. Okay, so I've been to like one, the one in Yonghe called Le Hua. But the xue hua bing is amazing, so definitely check it out.

Okay, I could go on and on about Taipei, but another important thing: Visit the Eslite bookstore. It was featured in Time magazine once and I went to one of their franchises (the one in Yonghe; it was near my house) and my god, their blueberry cheesecake is magnificent! And while you're there, definitely get a haircut. I got a haircut while I was there in December last year and it was the first time in my life that I was satisfied with a haircut.

So yeah, many things to do in Taipei!

my friend's going to taipei soon and she's trying to book hotels in taipei, but she isn't sure what hotels are good places to stay (since she heard that some bugdet hotels are prostitution hot spots, or something...) so i wanted to ask if anyone here has been to/lives in taipei and can give good suggestions for good hotels at a reasonable price :)

Hey spork ,

I heard from my travel agency that East Dragon Hotel is not bad which is near to Ximending. Or Cosmos Hotel, its near to the Ximen station.

Recently, I stayed at Kilin Hotel which is around 10 mins walk to Ximending. Its a 3 star hotel.

WAH JAY CHOU'S STORE IS SO FRIGGIN CLOSE TO MY RELATIVES' house. grrrr. i will go next time! they live one MRT stop away from the Dun Hua station. boohooo.

but yeah i think u should totally visit the "East District" (a lot of stars shop there), Taipei 101, Night Market, Ximending, etc.
There are a lot of food fads, like Mister Donut - the donuts are expensive! like US$1/NT30-NT35! there's also this japanese tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) sandwich at the food court in breeze center that's super yummy! if you're hungry, just go into a department store and go to the basement - there's a ton of selection at the food court. I think taipei 101 has the best selection becuase it's so HUGE!

It was okay... Very convenient as the Taipei Main Train Station is just like, next to the hotel, that is perfect if u are going to travel around Taipei mainly using the public transportation~ There's a shopping mall nearby too (around 5 minutes' walk) and there are some small shops in the shopping mall area~
There's also a bus station (around 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel) in which u can board a bus to and fro the Chiang Kai Sek Airport~~

Does anyone know the address for the studio that Xiaozhu and Leehom rehearses? That studio is located near a street whereby all passer by can see them dancing inside through the glass...

I am going to Taiwan next month as well. Been there last year, and it was fantastic...

For those that are going over, enjoy yourself, but its a definite must to step down to Dan shui and Xi men ding....

Imma going there in mid may.

Good night markets will be Shilin Night Market. There is this one night market that you guys better don't go bcos there are absolute nothing at all despite the fact that it was promoted in some maps.

In the meantime, I'll check some others for you. Are you guys like only gonna go Taipei, or you all be stopping by at Kaoshiung as well?

actually when u reach their airport, there will be this map that u can take and its gd cos they will list all the train stations name and tell you what is around that area.. as in which station to stop if you wanna go to that place..

Definitely a must to go YangMinshan!

Oh and i wish you all the lucks in bumping onto celebrities in Xi Mending!

to go Jiufen, you have to take a train from Taipei Railway Station to Ruifang (spelled Jui-fang on the railway website) and transfer to a bus for Jiufen.

I'm planning to go in mid to late october, but was wondering will there be any summer clothes on sale?
What i understand is that their summer sale starts in Sept as the weather is turning cold in Oct. So i was wondering if i could still get some clothes then. I will cancel my plan if there isn't much shopping i could do.
Your information will be of great help, thanks in advance. :thanks:

Hey! would like to ask if Jay's shop or restaurant still exists? It's no more OMNI is it? If it does wat's the address?

Do you guys know if we can visit his high school, Tamkang High, where he filmed "Secret"?

Also, are there any "must-visit places" in Taipei if one is a Jay fan?

I'm not sure of the toilet restaurant. think it's in ximending.

I know the restaurant with Jay's set meal! It even has a website! it's called Yeh's Wonton restaurant.
http://www.wenchou.com.tw/english.htm

LOCATION:
台北縣淡水鎮中正路177號
177 Chung Cheng Rd., Danshui

It's along DanShui Old street, but I can't remember the directions already. Think it's near a statue, at the end of the old street.

Other interesting sites include Tamkang High, where Secret was shot.
http://www.tksh.tpc.edu.tw/公車前後門.htm

And of course, his restaurant at Taipei Medical University.

Also, I see some restaurants that some of you hae gone to, but really where would you suggest is a nice place to go? I just would love to have a simple itenarary. Thanks!
