I loved this movie! I loved Johnny Depp!

I think he was absolutely the most eccentric and the most interesting character. Johnny Depp is one of the only American actors that I spend time following, and I think this was one of his most sucessful movie characters.

Not only was he the main attraction in the entire film, but his accent ~ it was as original as his character.

********
Here's a bit of an interview of him from
http://www.johnnydeppfan.com/index.htm
GD [to Johnny Depp]: Your character's quite a wobbly, dishevelled, mesmerizing character. What was your inspiration?

Johnny Depp: There's certainly the Keith Richards kind of element - the wise kinda sage. Then there was the Pepe Le Pew angle, which is like the guy who has blinders on, and only sees what he wants to see. There's also the Dean Martin kind of aspect. To me, Captain Jack is sort of this strange, pulsating organism who would shape himself to mold whatever situation - but with a martini glass.

The Disney Execs didn't like him at all in the beginning. I think he was a little too... unpredictable for them. A little bit too weird for them, initially, which I understood. And the other concerns, certainly, about the LOOK [laughs]. It was rather upsetting to them. They never said anything directly to me; it was always a lot of sideline whispering. I sat down with them, and I said, "Look, you hired me to do this, you know the stuff that I've done before. You HAD to know, to some degree, where I was going to go with this. He's slightly camp, slightly stoned, off-kilter... he's a fun guy.

GD: How much are you into videogames, if at all?

JD: I've gotten obsessed -- absolutely obsessed -- with a couple of games. When I was doing Sleepy Hollow, there were two games that I just drove everyone around me batty with. One was Quake, and the other was Shadow Warrior. Because you know, the game opens up, when you start the game -- there's this sort of high-pitched Chinese voice that screams out: [adopting a mock Asian accent] "WHOOOOO want-a some Wang?" I mean, THAT was it; it was like, I've GOTTA play this one. And I remember a game I thought was interesting: Postal. It was a really funny concept.

********

Besides the fight scenes that dragged on a bit too long (come on, they're immortal and already dead) I loved the movie. The editing of the fighting sequences were also hard to follow but I LOVED THE MOVIE!!!!!

********
Here is a review of the movie by Roger Ebert. (We all know who he is, right? If not, he's a really famous movie critic in the states and he even has his own show).

johnny depp has a really funky personality. in a good way. i haven't seen the movie yet...so is the plot good or not? i couldn't really tell from the reviews since they kept saying a lot of the action was pointless. but the actors did a good job?
isaw on one of the late night shows...it was either leno or conan, with johnny depp. when he was talking about his 'pirate-look' he said he knew he was going over the top and the producers or whoever wouldn't like it. so he purposely wore like 5 gold teeth, happy with 3, but prepared to 'compromise' with the producers. hehehe..smart

Chun Li

He does kind of look like Justin Timberlake, now that you mention it. But I think he has a crooked nose. I wonder if he can dance as well as Timberlake?

And I'm way more in love with Johnny Depp. I heard he was conceited though.

And the plot is okay. Not bad. The fighting went on too long. The acting (Johnny Depp's) was the best though.

i just watched this movie the other night. i went in with pretty low expectations, mainly cause i didnt really know what this movie was about! but i came out in awe! it was very intersesting. the plot wasnt the best, but the acting in it was superb! especially jhonny depps. his character was the best and most interesting i think. and major hotie ORLANDO BLOOM!!! definately worth a watch!

pretty cool movie, love it!! just saw it this week. in the movie there always something to laugh about. and i still can't believe is a disney movie and that is based on a disneyland ride that i have rode on when i was little, hehe.also as the story goes, it remind me some parts of the disneyland ride, like the dog with the keys and the jailers tryin to get it
i went to see it with my friends and one of them already seen it, she said that jack( johnny d.) walk like a gay person is cuz he's drunk. . omg, orlando look so cute in the movie, especially with swords, hehe. talkin about this movie make me wanna see it again.

i saw this movie last week and i also went in w/ low expectations but was surprised b/c it was a really fun movie. it's really long and it's all action and comedy. the plot is okay but the movie is just a bunch of fighting scenes and johnny depp is really funny in the movie. there's a little bit of romance but it's not really that interesting, but orlando bloom did a really good job too. he looks really manly in this movie compared to in the lord of the rings. in the previews it showed that disney is also releasing a movie for the haunted house ride and it had eddie murphy in it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie ^^ I might see it tonight because it's my sister's birthday and she might take a friend to go watch it.. and I hopefully will be able to go too.

I just realized who Johnny Depp was.. isn't he like, fourty years old?? I know so many people that think he's hot, and I was like, woah!! Old guy XD

I was surprised to find out that he's 40 now, but his creativity and resourcefulness when he comes to his acting never fails to amaze me. He's been one of my favorite actors since Edward Scissorhands, and he is the only American celebrity that I actually bother to get wallpapers for!

i agree that johnny depp was brilliant in this movie. i never cared much for him before, but he really is a very good actor. very convincing and so well done. he was pretty cute before too. now a little...old...but i think everyone in that movie was gooooood...although i still don't see the big fuss about orlando. he's charming, but he's not like omg so hot..

i just saw this movie this past week. the plot wasn't all that great but the acting was. i especially liked the beginning when jack's boat was sinking. johnny's accent was excellent. it was hard to make out some words during some scenes.. the fighting scenes so good. what i like about it was that it was just regular fighting, more realistic i guess is the word i'm looking for.. some the stunts they did were fancy but overall it wasn't like they were jumping in the air and doing all these matrix, kung-fu like sommersaults and flying kicks. i'm so sick of those now.

question: why did they (the pirates) leave jack on the island in the first place?

but yes, orlando and justin bare a striking resemblance. for starters... they have strikingly similar square-shaped heads, complemented by a similar set of rather flat & unobtrusive cheek bones. Second.. they both have long slender noses that softly flare out at the nostrils. Third, make note of their long flat eyebrows... do u think they pluck their eyebrows :? ? fourth.. they have rather flat rectangular foreheads with long straight hairlines and finally, as my sister is now pointing out... "when you gaze into their eyes, you'll notice their dark brown eyes and remarkably matching stare."

hmm.. yes people, i have way too much time on my hands to conjure up such a comparison.

Okay. I know I'm late to this thread. BUT PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!! Chun Li?!?! Do you have MSN!??!? TELL ME IT!!!! I need to talk to you about the greatness of the movie!!!!!!!!!!! *dies*

I know I said Johnny Depp was old, etc. etc. Heck I didn't even know who he WAS. I'm so stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's the most good looking guy on the planet, maybe except Jay. I mean I don't care a thing about Orlando Bloom. Sure, he looks good as an elf, but you know what. Next to Captain Sparrow he's like... like... a cockroach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright I don't have much time to write this because my mom needs me to get off the computer but.

All of you who haven't seen the movie, GO SEE IT. It's so good. The acting was incredible, especially by Johnny Depp. He's fascinating and fantastic and fabulous all at the same time. He's this funny, humorous guy, but he's so........................ I can't put this into words. What other movies has him in it?!?!? CHUN LI?? TELL ME!!! I need to go find wallpaper. I need to go buy POSTERS!!! POSTERS!!!!!!!!!!!

(I've entered an obsession stage, previous obsession stage was lotr)

I'm seeing it again this week with a friend of mine. Sigh. I can see it over and over again. Just for Johnny Depp's character!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll talk about the faults and whatnot later. For now.. I'm infatuated with Johnny Depp and Captain Jack Sparrow.

Go see it.

it's captain BLACK sparrow? i thought it was captain JACK sparrow lol.

"pirates of the Caribbean" was one of the greatest movies i've ever seen. it's just as good as lord of the rings! Johny deep is one of the greatest actors of ALL TIME. i mean go rent BLOW and CHOCOLAT, FROM HELL, SLEEPY HOLLOW..heck all of his movies are so damn good! he chooses his movies very well...such a decent actor<3. and a decent man too! currently married to french singer vanessa paradis (she's so, so lucky), and already has 2 kids i think. he's also a very good guitarist..he helps out his wife with her music! aww, so talented. and he's currently filming in montreal canada..where i live!! ohhh must go stalk him..!! not, lol.

i find orlando bloom incredibly charming, and a pretty good actor also. i like him much :].

anyways, i aggree, the cast of pirates of the caribbean was amazing. must buy it on dvd and buy the poster!

if you haven't seen it still, gooooo see it. you'll enjoy it for sure! humor, action, great acting...:D

I just remembered!!
you MUST watch DON JUAN DEMARCO
HE IS SO SEXY IN THAT MOVIE!!

His acting style is so... "him" in that movie... you must watch that right after you watch Pirates of the caribbean, and before you watch any other johnny depp movies.

Jess
07-21-2003, 11:09 PM
Okay!!!!! I'll do that RIGHT AWAY. I'm going to try to persuade my dad to take me to go watch it and rent it somewhere!!!!!!!!!!! TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chun Li have you been to the main pirates of the carribean site yet?? (here (http://pirates.movies.go.com)) They have like the normal wallpaper of Captain Jack SParrow but they also have these behind the scene movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm downloading one and I think they show like how they all got trained and stuff to swordfight!!

That reminds me!! Did you catch the fencing Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom did in the beginning?!?!?

Chun Li

i think jack cut himself because he took one of the coins. i'm more confused about william's father. technically, wouldn't he still be alive (or a ghost) since he is also cursed for having taken the gold coin?

Jess

okay, thinkin about this movie again, there was one part i didn't get, almost at the end what was the point when Jack cut himself right before stoppin the curse and shot the captain??

No no no no!!!! You guys saw it wrong!!! Jack didn't cut himself.. it was Will. Okay, what happened was, Jack threw the coin (medallion) at Will while the other guy (damn I forgot his name, but the first mate that had mutinied to become captain) wasn't noticing, and then right when Will cut himself and dropped the coin, thus ending the curse, Jack shot him. Jack couldn't have killed the other captain because under the curse, you're basically immortal to wounds like that. But as the coin dropped, the curse was broken, Jack shot him, and the now-mortal of the captain felt the wound and died. Get it now??

think jack cut himself because he took one of the coins. i'm more confused about william's father. technically, wouldn't he still be alive (or a ghost) since he is also cursed for having taken the gold coin?

I'm not sure. It is possible for them to die, though. I don't know what they said for the cause of Will's father's death, and if they did at all, but did you notice in certain fights, the cursed sailors DID die?? If you cut off their head, their head doesn't hop right back on their bodies. They die, regardless of the curse or not. SO Will's father might have died from one of those deaths, if he was cursed.

Chun Li> They did the fencing very well!!!!!!!!!!! It was extremely professionally done!!!!!!!!! I applaud them like fifty billion times!!! Anyway. Didn't you LOVE the way Jack Sparrow said "Savvy?" OMG!! I died everytime he said it with lust.

zhy378
07-23-2003, 03:19 PM
if Jack didn't cut himself then how come right after Will saved Jack from being hang, and that right after when they were stopped by the soliders that it showed, both Jack and Will have bandage on one of their hands.?? :?
Plus i thought i did saw in the movie that jack did cut himself. Also that only the person who start the curse could give back his blood. so in some case wouldn't jack be will's fater even though the pirates said that Will's father was drown at sea attached to a cannon.? :?

Chun Li
07-23-2003, 11:06 PM
I guess this means we must watch it again so we can clearly analyze the cause of the wound on his hand. Yay. Another excuse for me to go.

Jess
07-24-2003, 05:35 AM
The actress's name is Kierra Knightley.

Chun Li do you know what she's talking about?!?! (zhy) Could you explain a little more clearly?

Plus i thought i did saw in the movie that jack did cut himself. Also that only the person who start the curse could give back his blood. so in some case wouldn't jack be will's fater even though the pirates said that Will's father was drown at sea attached to a cannon.?

WHEN did Jack cut himself????? Jack is NO WAY in any part of the curse, really. The only reason why at the end he became a skeleton, part of a curse was because he took one of the coins from the other coins already in the chest....... and thus inflicting the curse upon himself. He wasn't one of the carriers of the coin, he never cut his hand and dropped the coin in the chest to help break the curse. He was the former captain of the Black Pearl, and then his first mate Barbossa led a mutiny against him, marooning him on a island. Does that make sense? Could you clarify a little more? I'm kinda confused.

I saw Pirates of the Caribbean again today, it was as good as before!! or maybe better!!!! I keep trying to download POTC from Kazaa and mIRC and none of it is working.....................!!!

I saw Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp. It was horrible. It wasn't because Johnny Depp acted poorly, it was a terrible storyline and no one should ever watch that > <

jack does cut his hand...at the end b4 he throw the coin to will...he has a knife in his hand, then he clenches it into a fist and pulls the knife out ...cutting his palm...itz kinda fast and if u look away for a second u miss it..anyway...it was an hilarious movie...i think  good laugh...i enjoyed it very much and was the first movie that didnt dissappoint me all summer...im hoping johnny english will be jus as funny if not funnier  if u havent seen it, i highly recommend it  ...and STOP READING THIS THREAD...U WILL RUIN IT FOR URSELF :bleh:

That's true. I think Jack DOES cut his hand... it would make sense, wouldn't it? I'm watching it again Saturday, so maybe I'll catch it. But I think Jack needs to cut his hand because he took one of the coins, so they would need his blood to fully break the curse...............

I DIDN'T WATCH BENNY AND JOON YET!! I bought Edward Scissorhands because it was on sale but that's it!!!!!!!!!!!!I need to go toblockbuster!

07-26-2003, 08:39 AM
jack does cut his hand right before he tosses the coin into the chest, right before will cuts his hand. both coins have blood on it and both guys have bandages. perhaps he (jack) just did it to distract captain bonbour so that will would have a chance to put the coin back.

linny
07-27-2003, 05:40 AM
Okay, after reading all this posts, one can only conclude that the storyline was confusing and completely irrelevent. Okay, now I go into a long review/ranting mode. XD

zhy378 > Jack was put on the island the first time because his crew decided to throw a mutiny against him, led by Jack's first mate, Barbossa. Well, since they probably didn't want to kill him, Barbossa decided to leave Jack on the island, which he believed was as good as killing Jack.

Moving on...

I just saw this yesterday after TWO attempts of trying to buy the tickets only to find that they were sold out. Okay, anyway, my thoughts on the movie.

Pirates of the Carribean is a surprisingly well done movie. After reading the review from LA Times, I was skeptical of the quality of the movie. The storyline was confusing, the special effects were at times overly done, and the acting by the majority of the characters was tolerable at best. But! Nevertheless, with the help of Johnny Depp, this movie was transformed into an interesting piece of work. While the movie is no where near the expectations of movie critics, it is certainly a fun movie to watch - one that I recommend to everyone.

Johnny Depp is the shining star of this movie. He is the most interesting, quirkiest character in the entire film. The way he walks, the way he talks, the way he looks... All of it captures your attention. You can't take your eyes off of him, he's so fascinating. When he talks, sometimes, you have to pay special attention to catch what he's trying to say.

I loved how he walked, how he insisted on being called 'CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow', his devious nature. Johnny Depp is bloody brilliant in this movie. I'd go watch this movie again and again just to hear him say 'Savvy?'

Moving on to Orlando Bloom... Okay, I prefer Orlando as Legolas from LotR any day, but the fact that he says more than 2 lines in the movie is impressive. His character is charming, rash, love sick. He reminds you of the foolish school boy who always screws up but is endearing because of his sincere nature. I didn't think Orlando was the greatest in this movie (and really, I believe he's only a pretty boy to begin with).

Anyway, I love Orlando and him as William Turner was okay. When he acted rash and stupid, he annoyed me. I think the best scenes of William Turner was either the fencing scene or the occassional scenes where he makes a blunder (i.e. almost getting blown up, acting cocky... therefore, earning a bludgeon over the head).

Whew. That was long.

Moral of the story? Johnny Depp KICKS ASS!

Jess
07-28-2003, 03:05 AM
Yes!! YES!! I totally agree with you linny!!

Okay, so I saw the movie again.. for the 4th time. There are some things I want to share with you guys.

Captain Jack Sparrow DOES in fact cut his hand. It's brief, but he does and I caught it the last two times I saw the movie.

Now I'll give you some precious reasons to watch the movie again if you didn't catch these.

When Jack is picking out his crew, did you notice he's holding a green banana???? I didn't catch it the first time, or the second time, but the third and fourth time I finally realized that he was shaking a banana at AnnaMaria and then he strides along and he's holding a banana in his left hand. Really weird..!

perhaps he (jack) just did it to distract captain bonbour so that will would have a chance to put the coin back.

Captain Bonbour..? o O Captain Barbossa???? ^^;;;

Well off-topic of POTC but on topic of Johnny Depp, I managed to see Edward Scissorhands today. It was actually a good movie, and I melted at his expression.. I mean it might be a little strange.. the movie.. but Johnny Depp can put on the saddest face I've ever seen > <

I'm thinking of making a Johnny Depp thread (unless there is one) because I've been doing all this "research" on him and read all these magazines on him and he's a really, really interesting guy.

CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW!!

OH OH!!! Also. I got the soundtrack!! OMG!! I went to SEVEN different stores to get the soundtrack. SEVEN. EACH of them were sold out or didn't get the order yet. Finally I found it at a random Sam Goody store in the mall I was seeing POTC in for the third time.

If you haven't gotten the soundtrack, get it. It's really really good. It just brings you back to the movie... the second song, The Medallion Calls, I keep cracking up because it's "Jack Sparrow's theme" and it's the song played in the beginning where Jack Sparrow is standing proudly on the.. sinking boat. Funny. ^^

this was definitely a movie worth watching!!~ although there were a couple of times when the fighting scene carried out a bit too long =p but johnny depp was great in there! his cunning + quirky character keeps the moving flowing and entertaining [pretty cute how he insists on being referred to as CAPTAIN jack sparrow + he refuses to go anywhere without his hat]

whereas orlando's dragged out his 'prince after the damsel in distress' character~ i dunno if anyone thought that though =p but i think he looks better as Legolas~ something about the elf image matches him!

the storyline was as expected but still interesting nontheless - i liek the special effects...something about skeletons under the moonlight makes the fighting and the scene somewhat mesmerizing..Oh and the fencing scene at the beg was just awesome =)

yeah, sorry... big spelling error... i don't know what i was thinking.
i didn't know the soundtrack was out. i loved the music played, especially the background music that was played during the fight scenes. are they mostly just orchestra tracks or does it have anyone singing on it?

Jess
07-28-2003, 07:52 AM
They're all orchestra tracks. No voices singing in it -- I mean, there's none of that in the movie so it would be illogical to put it on the soundtrack, huh? ^^ It was really good though. I totally recommend for you to get it.

If you liked the song played during the fight scenes, you'll definitely appreciate the soundtrack because it has a lot of variations of that one theme in several of the songs, some of it faster, some of it louder, some of it with more instruments, etc. It's cool XD

Jess, I love your new avatar!!! And sure, if you start a thread.... I'll definately have something to talk about...!! And four times! OMG!!! Okay, but when I was 16 I saw Titanic 7 times in the movie theatre... okay... and I saw the Sandlot about 10 times in the theatre too.

Jess
07-28-2003, 11:04 PM
Ok!!!!!!! I'll go start one! And then I can scan all my magazines and stuff with the Depp articles and bring up some questions and things I'm a little uncertain about him concerning him.. like his perspective on drugs.. (what he said about his children regarding drugs) etc.

Chun Li> What's Sandlot???? I never heard of it..!! I saw Titanic 3 times in the theaters I think. One movie I saw a lot in the theaters was Lord of the Rings. The first one, I saw at least 7 times in the theaters and then tons of times on DVD, and the second one I saw 4 times in the theaters. I'm going to go watch POTC again on Friday with one of my friends.... > < My mom thinks I'm the most pathetic person in the world. But this is one movie that I really, really like. I'm trying to persuade my parents to let me go with another one of my friends and see it every week until it goes out of the theaters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now since I'm starving to death I'll eat my seaweed and rice. And then later start the Depp thread.

EDIT: Oh about my avatar!!!! Don't you love it when he smiled??!?!??! Gah I died everytime he smiled..!!!!!!! I need to somehow get Lepencil to teach me how to rotate avatars!!!!!!!!!!! That would be cool!

Chun Li

Jess you're so cute!
Omg, you don't know what the Sandlot is? I was in love with one of it's actors, Mike Vitar. He was also in the MIGHTY DUCKS II and he was Luis Mendoza, I think either #22 or #44. But I thought he was so sexy, and the hottest guy in the world when I was 13. I used to go to the theatre everyday with my cousin and watch that movie, and we saw it so many times we memorized his lines, and I knew exactly where he would pop up in the next scene.

"Left hand corner, right there!"

Anyways, it was a fun obsession until Leonardo DiCaprio came along with the Titanic.

Do you have any idea how much time you spent in the theatre by watching Lord of the Rings that much? As for me, I watched Titanic 7 times so

7x3 = 21 hours of my life watching a ship sink.

I'm going to watch POTC again too, definately.

Jess
07-29-2003, 12:10 AM
Hahaha you have a point Chun Li!!!! LotR was 189 minutes long, so that would mean.... about 3 hours..... 7 times... 21 hours for me too

As for POTC... that movie is 143 minutes long.. rougly about 2 and a half hours.. 4 times.. 10 hours of my life. Oh well. I don't regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw Mighty Ducks II, I don't remember a thing from it though!! That was like what.. 5 years ago???? I just looked him up on google images.. he looks scary!!!!!!

About how you know where when he would pop up in the next scene... that's with me and Captain Jack Sparrow!!! I wanted to rip everyones throats out when they all started clapping and cheering when Will and Elizabeth kissed!!! I mean Johnny Depp is coming back on!!! What are they thinking?!?!?!

Anyway I'm going to go make the Depp thread!!!!!!!!!!

By the way did you see 'the man who cried'??? I heard he was a gypsy in that movie, like in Chocolat. He looks cute when he's those kind of people :B

Chun Li
07-29-2003, 12:14 AM
He's not scary looking!!

well I liked him when he was 14 so who knows what he looks like now.

Jess
07-29-2003, 12:16 AM
Hmm he's okay... funny how I think a 40 year old guy looks cuter than a teenage looking guy, huh? Is he a good actor? Was he good in Sandlot? Should I see Sandlot???

07-29-2003, 12:45 AM
*blink* While we're obsessing, I want to bring it back to CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW. XD XD XD

Sorry, I still can't get over the funny moments. For example! When he's sailing into port with the sinking ship and the grand music's playing. OR OR!

I really like the part at the end just before Will and Elizabeth kiss. First, the part where Jack Sparrow blows the feather out of his face from Will's nice hat, then when he's saying his fairwells and he just says 'Will... er... nice hat!" and my personal favorite!

He goes up and tries to act all majestic with his speech.. "Ladies and gentlemen, you will forever remember this day as the day you-- " before he falls over the edge.

XD That was so funny.

Jess
07-29-2003, 01:32 AM
I know, I know. Haha today at swimming, my friend FINALLY saw POTC (we're rewatching it together Friday, that's the one) and we were reciting every single one of Jack's quotes. She would bring up the moment, and I would quote it directly from the movie XD

What was the thing he said, "I think we've all arrived at a very special place... Spiritually... Ecumenically... grammatically?"

What did that mean???????? Just random Jack Sparrowness?!

linny
07-29-2003, 01:38 AM
Of course it was random Jack Sparrowness. He's just a very random kind of guy trying to make his speeches sound very sophisticated, unless you really think that they did arrive at a very place grammatically. :D

Anyone here think Orlando is BETTER than Johnny in this movie? Me and my friend got in a mock argument over this in class. She insisted Orlando was better when I pointedly reminded her that Orlando probably made her laugh 1 out of 100 times, the other 99 times belonging to Jack Sparrow moments. XD

Jess
07-29-2003, 02:36 AM
Orlando acted well in the movie, I can't deny that, but his character just didn't appeal to me. It was a necessary character, but the cliché-ness of his love-struck, young man-looking-to-save-his-love ("bonnie lass" as Jack would put it) didn't strike me as something I would love. He was rarely funny (and when he was funny it was when he was imitating Jack Sparrow.. that say anything to you?) but I guess that was just his character. Orlando didn't act poorly, he just wasn't as good as Johnny Depp XD

I hate those people out there though that only like Will Turner because he's played by Orlando. With all that "OMG LegoLaS is sO hoT!!! ORlanDo BLOoM iS sO sexXaY!!!!!!!!!" added to it. I mean, come on. Really.

Anyway, I'm gathering all the quotes I can remember from memory and I'm going to post them up later. Anyone that hasn't seen any of them then please tell me and I'll add onto the list, and if any of them are worded wrong (these are all from memory so forgive me) then just let me know.

so i see Jess is obsessed with the movie

i still haven't had the chance to see it...between the quizzes per day, projects due each day and bball practices (semester shortened to three-week period in the summer)...i have no time for movies at all

even though i have time to go Karaoke =P

my friend's been bugging me to see it with her...apparently she saw the movie three times already

i did attempt to go watch it though...just last weekend...but at 11 PM...the tickets were all. sold. out...all the way through 1 AM...wtf

is it really that good?

Chun Li
07-29-2003, 08:02 AM
I think the reason why it's good is because no one expected it to be good. I think you would like it, Jo. Depp is so eccentric!

Jo
07-29-2003, 08:08 AM
the commercial was hilarious...i gotta say

i haven't watched a funny movie in a long time

all i've been watching are either tragedies...or just action

i think i need some smiles in my life...lmao...this'd be cool

but yer...i din't expect it to be anything...the first time my friend asked me to go see it...i refused cuz i thought it was going to suck...but apparently it doesn't....i think i'll see it this weekend or next week

(summer school over this week...HELL YA)

Chun Li

I think you'll like it just because it's kind of a wildly put together story that is so funny you start to like it... but don't really know why at first. I just knew I had to watch it again after I saw it the first time.

I don't even know how to describe it since the storyline is so bizarre.

Okay you guys there's going to be a sequel to POTC!!!! It's definite. They're working on it already... The same producers are going to be working on it, and Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightly are all signed by contract to the sequel. The only thing that might be different is the screenwriters; the people that wrote Shrek haven't agreed to the sequel yet.

So what do you thihnk it's going to be about??? At the end of the first movie, if you stayed after the credits, then it shows a 30 second clip of Barbossa's monkey paddling over to the stone chest, jumping over Barbossa's dead body, and picking up one of the coins. And then he turns into a skeleton again and jumps at you. This makes a point, that the chest was just left there, abandoned. So maybe other people will come by and unwillingly start the curse up again? What do you think?

After Jess constantly bugged me about seeing this movie (as she did everyone else from what I can tell) :)
I finally saw it today! It was really good like everyone has said. Captain Jack Sparrow was hilariously cool...(if that's possible). I haven't read all 7 pages of this post, but I'm sure everyone has said everything I wanted to say about this movie.

And Chun Li and Jess, can I join the Johnny Depp fan club now?!

lepencil, I bet I already know what you're gonna say after you see it:
"It was alright"
I had to convince my guy friend to see it with me, telling him how it got good reviews and everyone said it was good...pretty much hyping it up tooo much. So after he saw it, it wasn't up to his expectations..but he still admitted it was "OK" ..but I guess all guys are like that, they won't openly admit we were right. :)
So Jess, keep it to a minimum!

Jess
08-04-2003, 06:55 AM
YES!!! Karen you saw it!!! I'm talking to you right now on MSN but that's not the point!!! I'm so glad you liked it, wasn't it great??? OMG Depp was brilliant in that movie, wasn't he??? I'm getting all excited again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course you can join the Johnny Depp fanclub!!!!
Oh and about Lepencil!! He's better than all those typical it was okay guys!!!!!!!!!! He'll love the movie, because he um.. knows jay...

Lepencil> You NEED to see it. Don't you get the biggest impression that it's a GREAT movie from everyone in this thread?!?!? And Chun Li and Karen loved it!!!!!!!!!! The movie has action, and romance, and humor all in one and Johnny Depp is absolutely amazing. Have I said that before?

Ask ANY questions about the movie. I'll answer ALL of them.!!! For you!!!!!! If you watch the movie!!

linny
08-05-2003, 02:07 AM
Hm, actually, speaking objectively, the whole movie is just so random. The only GREAT GREAT part about it is Johnny Depp (and the occassional surprises from Barbossa and crew).

I definitely recommend it if only because it has Johnny Depp's quirkiness in it. He makes the movie what it is. XD

lepencil
08-05-2003, 03:39 AM
Ask ANY questions about the movie. I'll answer ALL of them.!!! For you!!!!!! If you watch the movie!!
Really? :excited:

I have a list of questions for you then. I've done my homework, so make sure you do yours too.

1. Why the name "Jack Sparrow"? Any significance?
2. What is so significant about the black pearl and its curse?
3. Part of the movie was set in Port Royale, Jamaica (if I'm not wrong). Why?
4. How many barrels of grog did Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom each have to drink?

*patiently awaits answers from Jess*

~lepencil

Jess
08-05-2003, 04:41 AM
Linny I'll throttle you. Don't speak objectively about the movie again!!! *pulls out rope*

Lepencil>

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO ASK HARD QUESTIONS?!?!?!? >< I KNOW you know all these answers and did some intense research or something and now I'm just going based off memory and what I know. And making a fool out of myself. Save me.

1. Why the name "Jack Sparrow"? Any significance?

Pirates are usually given nicknames to represent themselves. Jack granted himself the nickname of "Sparrow" because of the tattoo on his right arm, that portrayed a sparrow in flight. Besides that, I'm not sure if it has much significance.. we don't find much out about the history of Jack Sparrow in the first film, but I think they're planning to give more background information on all of them in the sequel. GAH DAMMIT. Johnny Depp's son's name is Jack!!!!!!!!! Does that mean anything?!?!?!? AHHH!! I'm going to cry.

2. What is so significant about the black pearl and its curse?

What do you mean by this question? What is so significant? I don't want to supply a totally random answer, so you'll have to explain the question to me!!

3. Part of the movie was set in Port Royale, Jamaica (if I'm not wrong). Why?

Port Royale in Jamaica joined the piracy bases, following the islands capture by the English in 1655. The Caribbean is closely linked with Port Royale and the times of piracy, which occured around the 17th century. To make the story historically beliveable, they couldn't just choose a random place for Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner to reside in -- Port Royale would make a good place for their homes knowing that at that time, it was involved in the world of piracy and also in the Caribbean.

4. How many barrels of grog did Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom each have to drink?

Er.. grog... rum? Um... um...... No.. clue??? WHY are you asking these questions?!?! T___T I meant ask me questions about the movie!! Like what's IN the movie!!!!!!!!! ... *sulks* I've been reading almost every interview I can find with Johnny Depp and I haven't read one yet where he talks about how much rum ...grog.. he had to drink for the movie. And I don't like Orlando Bloom. GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so sad. Tell me the right answers, lepencil. *looks around the room sulkily*

jayx8318x
08-05-2003, 04:58 AM
2. What is so significant about the black pearl and its curse?

Is this a trick question, or something to do with historical facts? Cuz if you saw the movie it's obvious why the black pearl was cursed...(Cortez...gold medalions)

lepencil
08-05-2003, 05:02 AM
Guess I stumped you, Jess. :yeah:

Alright I didn't know there was a tattoo of a sparrow on his right arm. So yes you've answered my question.

Well the Black Pearl refers to the name of Captain Sparrow's ship, right? Why is there a "curse" that has been "affixed" onto it and how may it be broken? :?

During the 17th century (you're right about this), being a pirate meant you had a glorious profession (the other glorious profession then would be pirate hunters). And yes, most of the "activities" were carried out in the Caribbean, where most outposts and cities by the greater European colonial powers then (England, France, Holland and Spain) had been established. Port Royale, in Jamaica, happened to be an English-colonized outpost. My question was, why was Port Royale (an English port) chosen as the setting, and not, say, Havana (a wealthy Spanish town) or other ports such as Guadelope or St. Kitts?

The grog question, I just wanted to know the answer out of fun. Don't worry if it's not been revealed anywhere. :bleh:

~lepencil

linny

2. What is so significant about the black pearl and its curse?

Here's to praying Jess doesn't get to this before me. The significance of the Black Pearl itself is it supplie the plot. The whole story is centered on the Black Pearl and it's curse, so it's pretty important. Not to mention, Jack happens to chase the Black Pearl (it being his ship and all), making the story all the more interesting.

As for the curse, what happened was Sparrow, Barbossa and the crew went searching for Cortez's legendary gold medallions. Before Cortez died, the Aztecs cursed the medallions, saying that anyone who took the medallions from their original place would be unable to feel satiated with anything in their lives.

Yadda, yadda, blah blah. The significance is it curses the whole crew, causing them to pillage different places to find all the gold medallions, which eventually brings in Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner. Again, it's basically the basis of the plot as the pirates try to lift the curse while Will tries to save Elizabeth from them.

... Eh, don't know if that explained anything. Jess, you explain it better. :bleh:

Jess
08-05-2003, 05:30 AM
That explained pretty much everything linny ^^ Lepencil, was that the answer you were looking for?

In a condensed version, (or maybe not condensed knowing how much I talk when I get carried away) I'll just copy linny and add on. "Before Cortez died, the Aztecs cursed the medallions, saying that anyone who took the medallions from their original place would be unable to feel satiated with anything in their lives." Jack Sparrow, who was the captain of the Black Pearl at the time, led his crew to the sacred island of Isle de la Muerte where he hoped to seek out Cortez's ancient cursed gold. None of them believed the curse was true, thus leading to their downfall.

However, three days out on the adventure to seek out Cortez's gold, the first mate (Barbossa) goes up to Jack and tells him that everything's an equal share, including the location of the treasure. Jack gives it up, but later that night there's a mutiny, led by Barbossa. Yadda yaddda. Crap I think I'm about to spoil the movie.

SO. The only way to break the curse is the get the blood of everyone that took a gold coin from Cortez's chest and drop the coin in the chest along with the holder's blood. Out of the 882 pieces, only one piece hasn't been returned... the piece that [insert name here] had taken, one of the crew members. As revenge to the crew for marooning Jack, something he didn't believe in, he sent that piece off to his son, Will.

Elizabeth somehow gets the piece (not telling) and the cursed crew members of the Black Pearl seek out the medallion. But they need the blood of [insert name here], the blood of the man that removed the coin from the chest.......................

DUN DUN DUN

I DIDN'T SPOIL THE MOVIE!!!!!!!! did i?? *cowers*

Haha Jess you didn't spoil it because I know a little about the story/plot (after doing some reading up).

Hey, you still haven't answered my third question:
During the 17th century (you're right about this), being a pirate meant you had a glorious profession (the other glorious profession then would be pirate hunters). And yes, most of the "activities" were carried out in the Caribbean, where most outposts and cities by the greater European colonial powers then (England, France, Holland and Spain) had been established. T__________T I ignored it for a reason!!! Because.. because................

Do you know the answer to this question, dearest lepencil? Do you like to embarrass me?

Most likely for the MOVIE reasons (not the plot reasons, work with me here) because it was a better area to use, the surroundings being useful to the filming and etc. etc.

Ask me another question! (that hopefully I know)

linny
08-07-2003, 01:49 AM
Lol, wouldn't they use an English port since the majority of the actors are English? Eh, that didn't make sense. It just seems that most of the characters have English accents, so maybe they'd want an English port to match with the characters?

I'm shooting in the dark.

Ya, lepencil, ask nice questions for Jess. She's doing all of this to get you to go watch the movie, anyhow. ^^;;

I'm not sure whether it's still available, or whether there are other channels in getting it. A week or two earlier, Cathay Cineleisure had a promotion where you would get a PotC poster if you purchased two or more tickets to Freaky Friday (a movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis and someone else).

I haven't seen it but my fwend says it's really funny... I wanted to see it along time ago cause Orlando Bloom was in it, he just looks so cute  , but I think he looks better in the lord of the rings!! I've always wanted to see how Johnny Depp looks like wid out his costume on, cause the very last time I saw him was in that movie were he has those hands that r like scissors or something!! I should probably go see it some time... :bleh: U know what at first I thought it was gonna be like a scary movie  , but after talking wid my fwend n looking at this topic, ppl r telling me that it ain't that scary. I would actually watch it if it were cause I'm a big fan of scary stuff, even though I get freaked out n can't sleep the nite, hehehe I'm such a wuss, I got freaked out by "The Ring."

i love potc. ive seen it so many times. johnny depp definitely completes the movie. his character is great and hes a good actor. orlando bloom is hot like usual, especially in the last scene. but he is way hotter as legolas. but are pirates suppose to be so stealthy? my friend said that pirates are good sword fighters but their style is a little stiff.

Just caught the movie.

Love it loads! definitely going to get a second dose!

Johnny Depp's so hilarious! The way he sways around, and say gibberish. :D

But i didn't understand the ending... after the credits there was this little part on the baddies. What's the significance there? Or was it meant to be a joke?

i think it jus means..that the treasure was jus left behind (how careless of them =P) and that a possible sequel...well i think they will have one for sure...but a sequel of what happens 2 the leftover treasure...

actually now that i think about it...i think someone else in the forum mentioned that it was a prequel of what happened beforehand...but im not sure....basically...disney wants 2 keep it possibilities open...if this movie made a lot of money...which it did...then a second one would be very possible :D

i heard they're confirmed about a sequel, along with the original cast! Means more Johnny Depp! :)

thanks for trying to explain.. but i'm still quite puzzled. it's ok i'll go bum around for an answer!

i remember now...it is a sequel not prequel...i read thru the thread and realized i was mixing things up with another movie =P haha

personally i dont think a sequel will be as exciting...i mean...johnny depp will be hilarious of course...and i know we ALL love that.. :wink2: haha but i think the plot will be really lacking...unless disney REALLY mixes things up...cuz all i see in a sequel right now...is:

1) more pirates get the gold
2) everyone needs 2 get their hands on that monkey
3) someone falls in love
4) someone gets killed
5) they find the monkey
6) fight fight fight
7) good guys win, johhny depp is still very sexy

hahaha...i sure hope that isnt the sequel right there =P

ankh
09-04-2003, 07:29 PM
haha everything revolves round the monkey now yah?
if they were to bring back the Atzec Gold curse, it'll be boring.

much as i'm looking forward for more swashbuckling action, i think their motive for doing a sequel is wrong. just cos the original one top the box office?

i'll be sad if it gets labelled as a typical stinky sequel...

mostly from films after films Hollywood moviemaker seems to like doing this...b have a prob, dunno what to do, remembered his good pal A who he once adventured with and call him...
or B has prob, by that time he got a kid, his kid was awed by his story on A and when prob arise, find A who maybe at that time was a succesful man or still being himself like years before....
But everytime, the not-so-adventurous will get into trouble....
that's the cliche....hope they wont do that in the sequel....i think, movies like this would be all-time adventure rite? Like Sinbad,Jason or sth...they're pirates!!!! Pirates equals to adventure....

Finally got to watch it. Had to take the day off so that I could go watch it when the crowd is at work or in school. :)

I wasn't prepared to see the flamboyant Captain Jack Sparrow the way he was. Wooof! He wasn't the ordinary pirate, wasn't he?

Jess, I was so tickled when he mentioned the hair on his back. That was sooo you! Did we start talking about your hairy back before or after POTC?

Orlando Bloom was a darling, of course. I hope to see him in contemporary action /thriller movies.

09-17-2003, 02:15 PM
Haha Jess, I thought of you too, when Jack said that hair line!! Is that how it started?

I took advantage of no-school today to catch POTC, since everyone I know who's seen it loved it, and I kept reading really good reviews in the paper. Anyway, it was good, but because of that it wasn't really as GREAT as I expected. Enjoyable movie though, I'd see it again! The last movie I saw Johnny Depp in was Blow, which was eons ago! I liked both Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. Especially Orlando Bloom. I was never really a fan of Legolas (I still don't know why he's so popular), but man, there's something about brave, lovestruck Will Turner, the sweet and humble blacksmith.

I really loved this show. It's been a long time since I've laughed so hard at the movies. When I saw Jack Sparrow step off his ship onto the dock, I knew I was in for a really good time.

Johnny Depp's really really good in the show. He's so out of his usual character in the show. Excellent excellent actor. He truly blew me away with as Sparrow. I bought the tickets thinking that it should be nice to see if Orlando is as good as a swordsman as he is an archer but Johnny Depp's portrayal of Sparrow totally stole the show. Didn't like his looks in the poster (in fact I couldn't even recognise him) before I watched the film (I like his Chocolat looks a lot!), but after the show, that poster has become my cell's wallpaper for the month! Actually, Ollie was good too. :)

oh and did anyone catch the pun referring to Singapore? the part in the front where Jack was cutting up Elizabeth's corset after he saved her? i didn't really get it.

I missed the joke during the movies. Only heard something Singapore. But my friend gave me a recap just now. When Elizabeth's corset was removed after her near drowning incident, Commodore Norrington remarked that he has never seen anything so small, to which Sparrow remarked "You've obviously never been to Singapore!"

That's why I think the DVD is a must get. I'm sure I missed lots of puns in my excitement. It definely won't hurt my eyes to see Jack Sparrow and Will Turner again!

I saw Pirates for the second time today...and yeah, I'm gonna agree with all of u ppl that Johnny Depp was hilarious...to say the least..His swagger along with the background music accompanying his presence really lends an air of quality comedy to the show...If not, I'm afraid the show's just a string of bad puns after another..

I caught the Singapore pun the second time around...:) Will is just...too lovestruck for my taste..
But he's still yummy!

The Singapore thing - what were they referring to that was small? :?

My memory is failing me. I thought when Captain Jack ripped off the corset, one of those arguing guards said "I'd never have thought of doing that" .... and then came Jack's retort. :glug:

Hmm.... maybe the version I watched was edited in such a way that I missed something.

One question : Is the Commodore the same chap who was on the ship when Elisabeth was just a kid? The one in the opening scene where they rescued Will? If he is the same chap, my - isn't he very much [i]older[/] than her?

hmmm...come to think of it, that's what I heard too, that's why I couldn't understand the joke, but perhaps I wasn't really paying attention to Norrington. The small item he referred to was Elizabeth's corset.

Yup, it's the same guy. The only difference is that his wig changed colours (because he thought he was so high and mighty)........................ :welcome::sing:

He's probably about 15-20 years older than her. Creepy, isn't it? But it's true. I think that kinda thing was common back then though :brows: But yeah, I think Will was a much better choice for Elizabeth than Commodore Norrington.

i initially walked into the cinema to watch orlando bloom, but i ended up walking out of the cinema, in love with johnny!

don't know whether it's already been discussed yet, but did anybody notice the part near the beginning when sparrow had his hands in chains and was escaping the english soldiers? the part where he hung the chains over a hanging rope to 'flying fox' to the other side??? how did he do it? both wrists were bound by the chain, the rope was attached to a pole, how did he get the chain over the rope? :?

btw, i thought orlando looked better in LOTR....blonde seems to suit him better....and the pointed ears!

Anyway...it's a gooood show. And Johnny Depp was such a wonder wonder wonderful actor. Jack Sparrow's got to be the sexiest pirate that ever lived. I loved the boat part right at the beginning, how it sunk just as it reached the dock. And Johnny Depp was sooooo funny in the show...and he's got to be the sleekest, cheekiest, smartest pirate and I'm in love.

Well, this has been talked about a lot (not here, but other places). It's entirely possible that Jack folded his chains into two and went down the rope that way, and then slipped off at the end. The chain was long enough to do it. It doesn't show him doing that though, but YOU MUST PRETEND BECAUSE JACK SPARROW IS FLAWLESS.

I know i'm still on the commodore thing, but yeh i'm 90% sure he's the guy in the first scene, except he seemed to be a relatively important person on the ship already, so how come it took him at least another 10 years to be promoted to captain (was it captain?)?

This film ROCKS!!

btw, i'm not sure if this has been said already or not, but they've already planned to film a sequel, and at least Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have signed on
Just hope it can live up to this one

Jess
09-26-2003, 05:27 PM
He was only a lieutenant when he was on the ship, Lieutenant Norrington. At his promotion ceremony, he is promoted to Commodore Norrington, which would is a rank that would take him a long time to reach, since it's pretty important.

About the sequel... I wonder what the plot will be about? Barbossa isn't going to make another appearance, since Geoffrey Rush didn't sign the contract, so that means he won't come alive again or anything... (dammit, I really started to like Barbossa) One thing that I really hope they won't do is to overuse Jack quotes, because since now they know so many people like them, the writers might try to make him be so funny that it's not funny. But I doubt Depp will let that happen. *worship Depp*

well the whole title of the film was 'pirates of the caribbean: the curse of the black pearl' so i'm thinking that the sequel will prolly just adopt another story line, something that isn't related to the black pearl and barbossa....maybe some other notorious pirate ship comes into the story...who knows? hopefully johnny will take the role....but he did say it would depend on the script, so Jess you're right. if the character of sparrow becomes too lame, he prolly won't take on the role.

he's not married...rather his partner is a french actress/singer vanessa something...his daughter is lily-rose and she's 5, and his son is jack and he's something months old.

johnny has heaps of tats! you know the one he had on his right arm of the sparrow which was shown in POTC when norrington revealed johnny's pirate identity? it's real! his tat for his son jack.
he has an indian head of one of his biceps, 3 small rectangles on one of his fingers, skull and crossbones and the words "death is certain" on one of his ankles....and others.
incidently, the one with "winona forever" has been erased to "wino forever"...something about wine....

Yes!! I still have a chance!!!!!!!!!!! (kinda.. not really, but :-x) But yeah, teresa has it right. He's been with Vanessa for several years now, and they already have two children. But Johnny has this thing... where he feels that when his children are old enough to decide if they want their parents to marry or not, and they want them to, they will. Because sometimes marriage makes having a family different. I don't exactly understand, but it's what he wants and so it's fine with me.

wow that IS a lot...i dun think ANY movie is really worth 8 times in the movie theater...(maybe im jus cheap/poor college kid =P) i mean...at the expensivce movie ticket prices, that is like $70 UD...i could buy SEVERAL DVD with that (on the other hand...DVD in the US are expensive too -____-;;)

im sure the movie theater holds some special kinda experience, cuz of the nice setting, large screen, surrond sound...but i dun think it would be really be worth that much money ><

at least...for me =P

What's $70UD? I couldn't buy a DVD with the money I pay per ticket... Tickets here are around $6.50-$7.00. But to me, it was really worth it. I rarely find a movie I like enough to see over and over again, and so far the only movies I've seen repeatedly [in theaters] are Lord of the Rings 1&2, and Pirates of the Caribbean. I wish I could see Once Upon a Time in Mexico one more time, though.

"No...I mean, yes, they are..........but don't stop.." *gazes at Will*

"Elizabeth..." *leans in*

Hahahaha *cracks up loudly*

Will is such a loser!!! Orlando Bloom is much better as Legolas, when he plays Will he sounds all breathless and eager all the time!

"Elizabeth..!!"
"Will..."

I wonder how many times they did that during the movie.

Example:

Will: Barbossa!!!!

Elizabeth: Will...

Will: She goes free.

Barbossa: What's in your head, boy?

Will: She goes free!

Barbossa: You've only got one shot... and we can't die.

Jack: Don't do anything stupid...

Will: You can't... I can.

Jack: ...Like that.

Barbossa: Who are you?

Jack: No one. He's no one. A distant cousin of my aunt's nephew twice removed. Lovely singing voice, though. Eunuch.

hehe i finally watched it on tuesday. it wasn't bad. johnny depp was very cool, and his accent was funny but cool -- haha and also the way he walked and done that sloppy hand gesture, its a crack-up.

i reckon jack sparrow should have ended up with elizabeth, well there wasn't any chemistry between them, but it'll be so much cooler if there was!

Jess --> eight times? eight times? eight times???

and i thought i was fanatical! i'd like to see it again but none of my friends want to do it again! they live in fear that i'll embarrass them by yelling out "JOHNNY!!!!!!!!" in the cinema again....

but i have rented sleepy hollow and benny & joon....SH sorta resembles POTC....a little freaky but johnny plays a funny character. will be watching B&J tonight!

since we're discussing fave lines, i've got a few but i can't remem them word-4-word since i've only seen the film twice.

CJS: "....and i swear that i'll take you to the black pearl and to your bonnie lass!"

WT: "i practice 3 hours a day"
CJS: "mate, you need to find yourself a girl"

CJS: "you can always trust dishonest people to be dishonest..."

and near the end when CJS says to norrington something about "spirtually....grammatically..." i just burst out laughing when i first heard that....couldn't catch the middle "ally" word tho....can anybody enlighten me?

I've only seen the movie once... sorry I can't help you!

This is one of my favourite movies!! It's so funny!! I can't wait until the DVD comes out! I'm getting it... I heard it's gonna be out in about 58 days!

I thought the character that Johnny Depp plays (CJS) is pretty cool. He has a good sense of humour. I thought it was funny in the beginning when he had just arrived at the town and his ship had a hole in it and it was sinking. He was at the very top of the ship when he stepped off of it. Everyone in the theatre laughed at that part... I don't really remember little details about it... I saw it a while ago...

i love johnny depp in pirates of the carribean...
he can take on any kind of role! and Captain Jack Sparrow is a totally different role from the others that he's taken. I never expected that johnny depp could be so funny on account of his roles being mostly serious...but what's so cool about him is that he's never afraid to do something different.

Pirates of the Carribean was a good movie...but like kanetix said...its not the best. The effects were good though...the story line was ok...the love story between orlando and whats-her-name was a little forced though...but i think johnny's acting saved the day! but all in all, the movie was cool.

That line totally cracked me up....
I LOVE jack sparrow's lines....they are so cheeky, witty and funny!!! and of course, its the way johnny depp pulled them off....i love his laid back attitude....=)

I really didn't think that there's any chemistry between will turner and elizabeth....didn't think they would end up together somehow....

yeah this is a cool movie, and i think johnny depp totally stole the show!!!

ps wrote about this in another forum about his other movie "once upon a time in mexico" already.....but I'M SO HAPPY I RANDOMLY SAW HIM on the streets (fine so its for a grand total of 2 seconds....) walking out of the theatre after the premiere of mexico!!! :D yahaha
i'll put the link here again for the pic i took, albeit not a very good one....(not sure if i'm supposed to tho):

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK OF IT!!! That is like, my semi-all time favorite Depp movie. *sighs*

Here...... let's delve into the world of POTC once again.

Jack: Well!! I'm actually feeling rather good about this.
(turns to Governor Swann) I think we've all arrived at a special place, eh? Spiritually... ecumenically.. grammatically?
(to Norrington) I want to know that I was rooting for you, mate. Know that.
Elizabeth... it would never have worked out between us, darling. ..I'm sorry.
Will.... nice hat!

AHA!!! You may think that NOW... but if you decide to watch any of Depp's other movies, you'll see how good-looking he is, even when he's not Jack Sparrow. At first I couldn't get over how he looked like Jack Sparrow but now I can't get over how he looks period.

EVERYONE MUST SEE JOHNNY DEPP'S MOVIES.

Teresa tell me about Benny and Joon.

Haha just remembered one thing that struck me while i was watching the movie....

jack sparrow's perfect white pearlies :lolabove: vs the other pirates' (eg barbossa) rotting teeth!!!! :boxed:

Jess
10-07-2003, 07:08 AM
He didn't REALLY have pearly whites... he had some gold teeth too :bleh: (which indicates that he had several missing teeth but was smart enough to cram gold in the shape of a tooth inside of his mouth)

haha...never expected Pirates of the carribean to be quite a funny movie! there were certain parts which captain jack sparrow made is so laffable! like the boat he was in when he reached the port, like his nicely plaited beard :excited: ! seemed like my sense of humour is pretty different from many of my friends'! most din tink it was funny leh:| but it was a good show! i enjoyed it!!!

Hahaha ChunLi and Jess both of you are so into Johnny Depp!!! Actually I used to like him before because of his dark handsome looks. But somehow I just lost track of his movies and I cant remember which movies actually acttracted me to him... :hmm:

Anyway Johnny's acting in pirates of the caribbean actually impressed me alot!!! I think he is a fantastic actor. I told my family members hey Johnny acted so differently in this movie and gosh he acted fantastically in this movie!!! His acting is really great!!!! Actually i think the story plot was okay for this movie but it was Johnny's acting that brought life to this show!!

I have to agree Orlando Bloom was totally outshined by Johnny Depp's acting in this movie but I love Orlanddo Bloom  because of his role in the Lord of the Ring!!! He looks so gorgeous  Even my sister said that Orlando bloom is very handsome. But l I still prefer his image in LOTR

Well for those who havent watched the movie yet you can give it a try cos this movie was kinda of funny and you can see a different side of Johnny Depp's acting :D

oooooh...since the discussion sort of drifted away to johnny depp...i just wanna share my fave movie of him...its really old though...leonardo di caprio was in this movie too and he was like really young then. Its called Whats Eating Gilbert Grape? Leonardo plays the autistic younger brother of johnny there...both their acting was amazing! a lot of people underestimate leonardo's acting skills but if those people watch this movie, they will definitely eat their words...i havent seen anyone play the role of an autistic as well as leonardo did...and he was a just a kid then too...wait...back to johnny...his acting is always amazing...like ALWAYS. he never seems to go wrong...and when he does go wrong...its still in this sort of cool wrong way...or whatever...and his choice of characters arent exactly the ones that a regular actor would pick...but he always chooses to take risks and he always come out on top...i think his taking the role of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean is a perfect example!

speaking of johnny depp, he looks pretty hot in the movie 'chocolat', the one wit the matrix girl in it. i saw the previews for 'once upon a time in mexico', i'm not sure if they have it out in america/canada yet since australia is so delayed wen it comes to movies, but it looks pretty good and he looks nice there too.

EVERYONE MUST SEE JOHNNY DEPP'S MOVIES.

Teresa tell me about Benny and Joon.

oh thank you so much Jess! gosh, you really have memorised every line...

what's 'ecumenically'??? it's not in the dictionary...perhaps something Jack made up? har har.

EVERYONE MUST SEE JOHNNY DEPP'S MOVIES. yes, yes...if you trully admire Johnny's acting, then take Jess' advice, as i have.

now, about benny & joon....gosh he's so good!! my fave scene was when he played with the bread on forks and made them dance! so funny  the expression on his face...that bored yet 'this is so natural and normal' kind of look as he moved the forked bread around....i must say though that the woman who played Joon was really impressive...both her and the character Sam worked together so well, they sort of enhanced each other's acting...
now we know that Joon had a slight mental illness, but what about Sam? he couldn't read, but was that all? he's behaviour seemed a little eccentric, like he was in a world of his own....the rolling around on the sofa while mopping the ceiling...sitting in trees....ironing bread to make cheese sandwiches....and the classic mashing potatoes with a tennis racquet!!
a MUST see for Johnny fans! just to see his versatility....

another film i saw of his was "From Hell". anybody seen it? Jess?
my brother asked me "are you watching another Johnny Depp movie?" i said "no. i'm just watching Johnny Depp". hehe....he is SO HOT in this film. SO DARN SIZZLINGLY HOT!!!
anyway, the film is based on 19th century London, in the year when Jack the Ripper was running loose slaughtering people. Johnny played an opium addicted inspector who had psychic abilities. as you can imagine, he didn't look too different from when he was in Sleepy Hollow, but much hotter coz he wasn't as pale. all through the film, the words that ran endlessly through my mind was "he's so hot!!"

If you don't watch anything else, watch benny & joon and from hell. you'll keep loving Johnny...if not more! :D
