View Full Version : Plastic Surgery - What's your take on it?

I was talking to my friend on AIM and somehow we got around to talking about plastic surgery. She told me that in Korea, teenagers were getting plastic surgery as a graduation gift and that some parents, instead of saving up for their kids' college, were instead saving up for their kids' plastic surgery (I don't know how reliable this information is; after all, we were just chatting). That got me to thinking about all the TV shows in America, like FOX's "Swan" and the millions of other "extreme make over" shows.
Personally, I depise plastic surgery. It manipulates your physical insecurities about yourself and exploits them to where you would drop thousands of dollars on an uneccessary makeover. It's telling us it's okay to be unhappy with yourself, that you can always get yourself redone. It sets a standard of what is beautiful and of what is not.
I was in the car yesterday, listening to the radio, and a tummy tuck commerical comes up, with the lady screaming at me "It's ONLY $4200! Come and get a tummy tuck now, while this great offer lasts!" I was so shocked and disgusted by this! $4200 is not chump change and why the hell would you want to waste that incredulous amount of money on a tummy tuck?
I know of so many people who want to change themselves. My friends complain constantly of their horrid noses, flabby skin, etc. I'm not perfect either, but why the HECK would you want something FAKE? And, the weirdest thing is, when someone does undergo the knife, the results they aim for are always the skinny, caucasian woman look. I worry that Asians may fall victim to this standard made by plastic surgery, that girls many get breast implants, nose jobs, or eye lifts for bigger eyes. Why can't we just love ourselves the way we are? Our looks represent our DNA, you look at someone and you're like, 'Oh hey, it's so-and-so" but plastic surgery messes that up.
I think we should leave plastic surgery for those who really need it. Victims of fire and other disasters, for example. It really distresses me to see so many people get plastic surgery, becase in my mind, it's one of society's biggest vices. I also see it's continued popularity and I wonder what the future's going to be like. Are all the ladies going to be size 0's with C cups and large eyes framed with an oval face? Will they became perfect barbie dolls?
Okay, I'm going to shut up now, 'cause I just realized how long I've been ranting on for. Anyways, I'm wondering how you guys feel about this, so please tell your opinions! How do you feel about plastic surgery? Where do you think it's going? What symbols/messages do you think it represents? Rant 'n rave about it as much as you like! Feel free to argue!
***Note: What I've said in my post is my opinon only, so please don't take it the wrong way!

I agree with your stance on plastic surgery. everyone has there insecurities, getting one thing fixed you're only gonna get obsessed about another body part that you're dissatisfied with. it's ridiculous to be able to just be able to change you're appearance like that. Not only that, but each generations perception of beauty is different. c'mon now, Marilyn Monroe was like a size 14 or 16. So changing yourself just to fit some temporary ideal of beauty is just a complete waste of time. If everyone goes to get plastic surgery, everyone would end up looking the same and those distinctive features that one uses to distinguish you from everyone else would all be altered in order to look just like everyone else. it's just dumb.

i totally agree with both of yawl. its so sickening to see people try to become and look perfect when there is no such thing as a perfect person. basically, they're wasting their money to try and reach a goal they'll never be able to reach. people should be happy with their imperfections; thats what makes us unique. why would we all wanna look like the same barbie doll face?
i think the only person on that extreme makeover show would be the woman who had breast cancer and had to have her breasts taken out [or something like that] and she wanted them back. i think thats kinda reasonable to ask for plastic surgury. but just wanting bigger boobs and a smaller nose just to impress guys is SO LOW. i've got like a mountain huge nose but i would never change it even though i hate it so much. that's how God made me, and i dont ever want to change the way He wanted me to be.

I typed this up..............and then I pushed the wrong button.........and then JC.Net had the technical thing......
But here I go again!
It's not too often that I jump headfirst into a topic I'm not educated in or have not researched. Well, actually I do it all the time. This subject, however, can be rather touchy. For there are two sides of this in my head.
(I started typing this half an hour ago...damn TV is addicting.)
In a sense I support plastic surgery, but in another sense, I do not. I do not find it beautiful to be made of plastic. I don't find it at all graceful to have been put under a kinife to look as you are now. I do not like fake-ness. It appalls me. Shows like "The Swan" and other makeover shows appall me when they go and take women and make then "beautiful." Who determines what beauty is? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that much is true. Beauty is mental, not physical. Sure, I think that it's so generous of shows to go and spend all that money to make people beautiful...but I also know where that money can be put to better use. Since when was it so great to throw thousands of dollars at doctors so they rearrange your face and put your skin in places that it didn't used to be while sucking out not just your fat but also your blood? Sounds lovely. :) That money can be put to much better use. My usage is better than that usage. You not only risk your health and well being, but you also turn yourself into a Barbie doll. You're just plastic. You're fake. You're not real. There's no beauty there. Willam Shakespeare once wrote, "God has given you one face, and you make yourself another."
As for the other side of my brain...It can be good. Kind of. It's the same procedure and everything, but I think about the people who have had serious damage done to their face due to drunk drivers and accidents, burns, and such. For them, it's their chance to go back to "normal". It's their chance to get on with life with only a memory, and not the scars. There's also the children who were born conjoined at the head, they required a type of plastic surgery as well. There's also the "mermaid" child that had also needed a form of plastic surgery. So it can be good, for it would help these people get on with their lives with less hardships.
Sorry if my facts are wrong...I just kind of jumped into it. ><
And these are all opinions, BTW. Feel free to insert your own.

.....teenagers were getting plastic surgery as a graduation gift..
i agree with this sentense......that's real some of the parents agree their daughters(most) or sons go for plastic surgery....may be they too love their children so whatever they want also will give them..... :? good or bad??
teenagers nowaday always want perfect~~may be their life is too good (no worry) always in front the mirror so wanna the best in their LOOK~~!!:flowers:
actually...may be because some artists nowaday also getting prettier after plastic surgery then this will cause the teenagers so follow also.....
i have no opinion to say whether is good or bad about plastic surgery....
because every ppl thinking also different....

O_O I remember writing an essay about plastic surgery. Our topic was: What's a problem in our society? Anywho, yeah, so plastic surgery. I obviously disagree with it. T_T But, just because this is a part of the debate forum section thing, I'm going to be hypocritical and defend those that do. T_T B/c I'm fun like that. ^^;
Anyway.
Some people really take their looks to heart. I mean.. They really, really take their looks to heart. The Swan, on FOX.. You guys ahve seen it, yeah? You've seen how much these people hate looking lower than average. You've seen how much they just wanted to be pretty --because in society today, having the looks means you can get somewhere faster than others.
Besides, wouldn't you want to just have one day where you look in the mirror and go, "ho shit i am SEXY" and feel really great about yourself?
O_O;
T_T
I don't know. I just.. Felt sorry for those Swan girls.

I thought those Swan girls needed to see a therapist, not a plastic surgeon.
Some of them were okay looking. No need to go under the knife. Some special lotion and a haircut would do the treat along with some exercise.
Plastic surgery was the easy way out for them. In 8 weeks they're done.
Swan is a horrible show. Not only do they say that these girls are ugly, they mold them into society's expectations, playing mind games making them think that this is how you're suppose to think AND then they have a contest of which plastic surgery was most successful! What about the girl that didnt win? What is she thinking then? She probably has it in her mind that even with plastic surgery, she's not good enough. AGH. These types of shows make me abhor American television. Are there other countries that have shows like this?
Plastic surgery is bad..bad BAD. I totally agree with Polkadots. It is a manipulation of the body and mind. It's become an everyday thing as putting on makeup. Working to lose weight is much more self-satisfying than getting a tummy tuck anyway. Liposuction is....gross.

I agree with a lot of you on this topic. I mean, you are just born with what you have. If looks are not your thing, then something else is. Society just puts too much pressure on how one looks and it's just sad. That's why there's so much business in plastic surgery.
The strange thing is, that even though I do disagree with the message that the swan is sending out to the viewer, I still watch it. There's something human in me that makes me interested in how someone looks can affect how they act and percieve themselves. I guess how you look does determine how you feel about yourself. I just hope that the need for looking good goes down, but I don't think that will happen. It's in our nature to want to look good. Lol, *slighly going into my nerd talk* I mean its basically survival of the fittiest, the fittiest being the prettier or handsomer person.

I think it is ok to have plastic surgery but not extreme plastic surgery like it showed in Swan, etc. That is just too much. Just a nose job or small correction to correct a part that you dislike it extremely, is acceptable for me. What is show on that extreme makeover is too much. The end of the show is not an end to a fairy tale. Look at Michael Jackson’s face after years of plastic surgery.
Like what pryo_sign said, for some people, they felt so inferior due to their looks that they can’t moved forward. I think in such case, it is ok for them to do it. However, they should know that one need to maintain it and be careful with the “goods”.
In Korean I guess plastic surgery is very common. I heard most of the artists had plastic surgery (regardless male or female). Maybe the parents see it as an investment for them to get a job as in the teenagers feel more confident about themselves and project themselves better at the interview.
As people are usually lazy in nature, all look for an easier way to achieve something thus slimming pills, tummy tuck (as mentioned below) and etc. If plastic surgery can help them achieve it in a shorter time and they have the money I guess most will go for it.
Hey and beautiful people do have better treatment sometime. Example at some countries, the better-looking people were chosen to go into the pub if the pub is very popular. How unfair is that!!
Still I think make up is enough to do most of the cover up. So think twice before doing plastic surgery. You might not like the end result.
I think I’m going out of point at certain paragraph.

Why not have natural beauty? I hate the thought of plastic surgery, it may seems nice at first but after awhile, i think everything will start deteriorating. Look at Michael Jackson's face, it's falling apart!!!!
If you're young, shouldn't touch them things, just be natural cos u have a long future ahead. I understand if old women want plastic surgery to keep them looking abit younger. After all, they don't have that longer to live so beauty in the final stages of life is like a gift for them (umm...sorry i sound so cruel).

I had to have long and extensive surgery on my knee, and now I have a huge scar up the length of my shin -- one that has keloided out of control and is absolutely disgusting. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I consider myself a pretty attractive young woman.
One that's in her prime.
Naturally, I already know that my only option to get rid of this scar is plastic surgery, if I ever want to wear skirts or show my legs again in public, simply because of how incredibly embarrassing the scar is.
For someone like me, I fully support plastic surgery. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Especially if you're someone who's desperately upset with the way you look and just want to have more confidence.
Most people have never been in that kind of a position though. Those who are usually against plastic surgery are usually people who are completely comfortable with their features.

Those who are usually against plastic surgery are usually people who are completely comfortable with their features.
That's true. I mean, apart from nailpolish, I don't even wear make-up. But that's more to do with laziness than confidence I think...
Plastic surgery is...well, good for you if you don't need it, but if you wanna do it, just make sure that you don't regret it. Personally, I know that I don't need it and I definitely don't want it, so it's not for me. And to be honest, when I see a good-looking person and it is later made known to me that the person has gone under the knife, that person instantly becomes less attractive to me; the beauty becomes less striking and real - probably because it's not real anyway. Having said that, reconstruction surgery is absolutely vital for accident victims or unfortunate people born with really grotesque deformities. In such cases, I think it's good.
Hollywood celebrities - or just any celebrities - going under the knife to gain popularity though...all I can say is, get a life. :-)

i am totally not for the idea of plastic surgery especially those people who look fine but still wants to go for surgery just because they want some parts of their bodies bigger or smaller--> if you know what i mean
basically,i dont think its right to go for plastic surgery because you came out from your mother's body like that and since god has granted you this body of yours,i believe you should treasure it and not go and make some ammenments to them.but of course there are some exceptions like, part of your face has something which causes people to talk behind your back or any of that sort,it is best to go for surgery because right now in society, people do judge you first by looking at your face and all....

in the first place, plastic surgery is a rather contradicting topic. it's actually all to do with one's mental configuration. How we think, what we think about ourselves.
Say, what's wrong with plastic surgery. What's wrong with correcting something WE think that there's something wrong with, or we do not like. In the end, it boils down to personal gratification. We want to look good, thus we go under the knife. Therefore, is it wrong? is it wrong to please yourself, to get the things we want? In the first place, isn't vanity inborn within all of us? afterall, who wants to be ugly? Of course, not everyone who undergoes plastic surgery is ugly. But it is undoubtable that they are insecure of their looks, therefore they go for a tummy tuck or a nose job. Everybody has a right to pursue what they presume right or good for them. they have a right to get the things they want.
On the other hand, there are arguments which base themselves on we should treasure what God gave, what our parents gave. Then why do no one protest against the invention of pesticides or cars when these items also destroy nature, items that are also given to us by God? If one say that there is inner beauty within everyone of us, then why would anyone care if we have undergone plastic surgery? does it mean that plastic surgery distracts people from others inner beauty or does people who had undergone plastic surgery have less inner beauty?
we shouldn't use plastic surgery to try and defend inner beauty. inner beauty still remains no matter what you do to yourself physically. doesn't it? essentially, plastic surgery is just a means to enhance one's looks. I don't think it's condemnable. it simply works with the same principle as bettering ourselves.
just my two cents, of course. feel free to overturn my view.
This is actually a really good topic.
I used to be against plastic surgery and think "why the hell would people do that to themselves", but i've grown to realise that...even though people talk about inner beauty, etc, it's just really hard to empathise fully with people who like..have a big nose or something extreme like that, and 'need' it. But then, if we didnt place so much emphasis on looks, then plastic surgery probably wouldnt be such a huge issue...
What i do worry about re: plastic surgery though is that once u do it, will u really be happy?? Would u then find some other body part to worry about?? But then i suppose that would be like a psychological problem??
Anyway, it's a tough issue.
And i agree with you oy. liposuction is an ugly operation to witness....

To be short, I don't care if people want to look like plastic dolls...I wouldn't do it. That's cosmetic surgery I'm talking about. Plastic surgery, for people who have gone through traumas like accidents, I think it's good.

I think plastic surgery is more of a personal view and there is no really rights or wrongs. People go for plastic surgeries for different reasons some forced because of accidents or some go for it simply because they want to look better. Even for those who want to look better cases, there are some who really are born with let us say a not that attractive face and was rejected for over a thousand applications for a job. For such cases, it would be heartless to condemn them because after all, they just want to be more confident and have a better job prospects.
Honestly speaking who in this world does not want to look good and be attractive? We people are already shaped in our way of thinking by all those beauty magazines and commercials into believing in and wanting to achieve beauty. This has more or less affected our perception and judgment and belief on things beautiful. Hence, I think plastic surgery is acceptable. As long as you feel that it will give you more confidence and you will not regret the consequences, I would say why not? This is ultimately your own choice and only you will know whether plastic surgery is for you.

Wow, I love the points that you made, and I agree completely. Society today has evolved to a class of insecure people who feel that the only solution is to undergo plastic surgery. Yes, you can become physically beautiful, but what does that say about you on the inside? Plastic surgery is a waste and something that should not be open to the public, only those who need it for health reasons.

Well in my opinion, i think it's okay to have a plastic surgery in some cases like you've got your face burned in an accident or something, surely you need to get the surgery to bring back your normal face right? But if you undergo a plastic surgery only because you disatisfied with your face..h..i don't agree with that. Cos God create me the way i am now and i don't want to change my face for that reason.

plastic surgery ...my view on it is i think its acceptable....its just a way to make some people to look better or to feel better about themselves .... people might say...well its fake...but then when they look good...who cares if they are plastic?
have any of you guys seen that MTV show...I want a Famous face..its about people that get plastic surgery to look like a certain celeb.....i think its fine to get plastic surgery if thats what they really want....

im alright with it, i can see how some people would despise it and everything. but have some respect for your body, like know what your body's limits are, and just dont go too crazy about cuttin everything up and end up like michael jackson...
i mean some plastic surgeries perform miracles on people, those that have no self-esteem and confidence about themselves. everybody say that looks dont matter, well to a certain point it does matter, cos that's the first thing that people see when they look at you. like are you more likely to talk to someone who's cute/pretty, then someone who is ugly?
on oprah, i saw this girl, she had like 26 surgeries, and she was only 28 years old, and she literally looked plastic, but in her case, she was addicted to it, so whatever that's her excuse.

I do agree that we should not change our looks as it was a gift from god or our parents.. we should look what supposed to look..i had never liked plastic surgery before..
but i was thinking.. this world is reality.. everything is by looks..(correct me if you think that i'm wrong).. for example.. when you went for an interview..even if you can speaks very well.. but if the job you are applying for is kind of sales.. then the interviwers will take into the consideration of your looks. am i right? for the moderate or good looking ones.. there will be no problem of you passing the interview.. but do spare a thought for those looking bad ones.. they will feel kind of rejeted..etc... for these.. plastic surgey might helps alot..
for those who got scares on the faces.. or looks terrible bad since birth.. plastic surgery will help them to find their beauty and stand up straight in front of others without fear of being laugh at by others...

but of cours jolin got it and jay doesnt like her so i wont.
um....dinky-donksorry if i sound rude but, don't you think that is stupid?if jay wants you to you would do it. if jay asked you to murder someone you would do it?
plastic surgery is a BIG issue and it is the PERSONS decision to decide whether they want it or not, not other people buisness, not even your own mum or dad.
i don't like seeing people doing things for thier idol, going to that extreme. yes, i'm sure you like jay just like everyone else here but please, don't sacfrifice too much because of him, you still have a life to live and there are far more important things in life then to do everything jay tells you.
personally, i would not have plastic surgery because i am happy about myself and i apperciate little things. no-one can help the way they look but if you start to look at the positve way of things, then the negative will be forgotten then everyone would be happy wouldn't they? :wink2:

I think plastic surgery is very very wrong!! God gave us our looks... If your look is pretty, then congrats to you.. Alternatively, if you think you are ugly, you don't have to go for surgery, you can always beautify yourself by making up with cosmetics and so on.. We must learn to appreciate and treasure gifts (your looks, your figure, your everything) from God.
In my view, no matter what's wrong, we should not go for plastic surgery. Even if you want, think one more time, it costs a bomb. And the risk is really big, if your surgery was a success, congrats to you, but if it was a failure, you will be disfigured, and your looks will stay with you forever, unless you take up another challenge of plastic surgery.
TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO DESPISE PLASTIC SURGERY, ESPECIALLY FEMALES...PLEASE DO NOT WEAR YOUR MAKE UP IF YOU HATE THINGS THAT BEAUTIFY YOUR FACE AND WANTED EVERYTHING TO BE NATURAL...MAKE UP HAVE CHEMICALS TOO ANYWAY
yeah can u feel them now? do not deny it
we all wanna look good wat the hell?
i'd support if it fulfil some people's dreams
but i will condemn it if it is a failed process that makes people uglier
so yeah if u wanna get plastic surgery, get a surgeon tat guarantees the success..
of course it actually increases the beauty of people :D
it's like bringing out the best in you
and yeah i agreed that most of those who doesn't support plastic surgery are those already satisfied with their looks
and look not all those who got plastic surgery are UGLY as someone has stated
they just thought a lil enhancement would do them a lot
so yeah i say wat the heck? we shouldn't be disrespecting those who underwent plastic surgery
but if someone already attractive as sarah michelle gellar wanted to get plastic surgery i'd say nooo!
feel obliged to argue, for females look back at the first point before condemning this method
and yeah we all know the after-effects of plastic surgery if excessive surgery is done
well it's their choice/...the only thing wrong the plastic surgeons did was probably not informing their patients that they could be after effects
if they did and the patients still want it then it's their choice and they shouldn't regret it :glug:

i actually have no problem with plastic surgery, but at like our ages i don't think it is particularly necessary, i know a girl who went and got her eyes done in china, and when she came back everyone was like...ok
i'm sure alot of people get plastic surgery to make themself feel better about their looks, which gives them confidence which is good...but what makes me sad is that they need surgery to enhance their looks to feel good about themself. why not feel good about something on the inside? like a talent you have, or feel good about your friends and family who love you.
so i say do what you want, what feels right...but ultimately you are judged on what is on the inside

I don't agree with plastic surgery.
i don't get WHY people do it!! to be more pretty?? BLEAHHGGHHX
Firstly, God gave you this face that you are born with [sorry non-christians].. and even if you don't believe in God.. you were BORN with the face and body that you have. it's you. why change.
after plastic surgery, your face isn't the real you.. you are FAKE. and girls think it makes them more pretty?? guys don't even like that!!
I don't even agree with minor plastic surgery such as botox. i think it makes you look worse than before. you CANT EVEN SMILE PROPERLY lolx.
ew.. i forgot what else i wanted to say.. dang it..
anyway.. also, surgery is never 100% safe. things do go wrong. and then what. you will have a disfigured face for nothing. and paying so much money just for plastic surgery haha it doesnt make sense to me.
ps. the only plastic surgery i agree with is if youve been in a car accident or if your face was caught in the propellar of a boat or something. thenn you may go and have it fixed lol.

I think differently... I want to get plastic surgery. I'm not pleased enuf with my looks... I wanna look like Miss Universe of the future. Hahaha. Just kidding.
But I am a christian... God haven't told me not to take plastic surgery so I'm considering. But first... I need God to help me get the money 4 the surgery. hehehe. And of coz, I'll only go 4 it if I'm rich. I'm not that selfish...

people do this surgery to make u be better
but this kind of thinking will just lead to people wanting to be perfect
eventually it could lead to a divide. Those who wish to chase to become perfect like genetic alteration and surgery and those who are just natural
i think people should accept what they are and live it

Ohyea...i agree ! Well...why don we just appreciate for wht God has create and gave us ! Not everyone is as fortunate as the most ppl living in this world ! Some of them are even not willing to affort a bottle of Pepsi ! I mean...why not instead of using the money for plastic surgery...do something tht is usefull and can help other ppl who really need for goodnessake !

ok..
plastic surgery..
i feel that ppl who do plastic surgery are waste of money and ppl who r not confident of urself..
well.. u should appreciate what u have and be content wif it!!
i feel that plastic surgery should be for those who really need it only..
like those accident prone - disfigured ppl..
or burnt..
then i hav nothin to say....
IN a nutshell...
ppl who really need it only should go for plastic surgery
NOT those who wanna look beautiful only..
as for those who has too much $$$$... welll why dun u put ur money to good use rather than wasting it onto sth unnecessary..
BUT since it's their money.. *shrugs* i guess we juz can't comment much.. >.<

i think it is a wrong way to build up people's confidence.
spending money to change the way you look sounds rather stupid to me..
but if it's your looks that helps you to make a living, i guess it's alright.. but i'll probably stop supporting jay if he goes for plastic.
too much of plastic is really bad (take a look at M.J)

Yes please. I'd like to get a boob job. xD
Hahahaha.. Naw, but it's a bit weird. I mean people walking around you.. Maybe 3/4 of them had their boobs done. I forgot the statistics in the US.. but it's something like 70% of women in the U.S have had some sort of job done too their boob.. It's just ridiculous. Pretty soon, no one in this world is natural.
And looking at big-eyed Korean girls make me wonder. It's also sad that you're being insecure about yourself.. saying "Oh how pretty. I wish I was as perfect as her. Look! Her eyes, her lips.. bla bla bla" ... and it's all fake. How would you feel as a role-model.. ?

I would never do plastic surgery on myself. I do not judge other people who do it, I do not think it is a crime or sin to change the way you look. I just think people should be happy with what they have because looks are so...... unimportant. I mean yes looks matter alot, people develop their first impressions of you based on how u look and all that and I am not naive enough to think that oh looks don't matter in anything it's only the inside that counts. You may think that but many other people in the world won't and don't and that's a fact. People just judge other people based on looks.
What I mean when I say looks are unimportant is that when you die, it doesn't mean anything. So why should you waste your money and time trying to look good instead of doing something really worthwhile with your life. Who cares how u look? As long as you look human. You're alive and well. Thats all that matters. But not all people can resist succumbing to plastic surgery because it is just like being addicted to food or shopping. So I hope people who are considering plastic surgery or who have gotten it will be happy with what they already have. Because risking your nose collapsing and suffocating you just to look "elegant" is a big price to pay. And if you're still not happy with that, then it wouldn't even have been worth ur while.
i think plastic surgery depends on a lot of factors...
-if a person is already beautiful but wants to look like a celebrity then i think its just stupid because that person is not being herself or himself and people would look at you not for who you are...
-if a person is extremely insecure because of their teeth or defects and it affects deeply how they live then i think its fine because in the end its going to help them go on with their lives and just be happier....e.g. the people you see in extreme makeover, women whose certain body parts are so saggy because of giving birth, etc....
bottom line is that it all depends on why the person is doing it and how will it help them in the end

Have you seen plastic surgery performed on a person and the incredible changes after?
Like most of you, i don't agree with going under the knife for reason other than health related conditions, but I had the chance to witness a breast enlargement procedure and.....wow....it's fascinating....I'm not allow to disclose patient's name and stuff, but obviously, the operation was on a woman (who else would have breasts?)
It was a very fast procedure...lasting 30-45 minutes. Only two small incisions about an inch were made under the armpits, to prevent evidence of scaring. Not a lot of blood was involved either. The only painful part was when the doc. had to stretch the chest muscles using this long crowbar like thing....ahh...that was kindda scary to watch. I can't imaging the amount of soreness the patient felt after.
The outcome: a pretty natural larger breasts. It was quite amazing if you get to witness the before and after effect.
From what the doc. said...the breasts would last for 5+ years....
Fascinating stuff...surgery that is.. But painful....
great now ppl are saying tat beauty is skin-deep?
wat the hell? 1 moment we are realistic and accept tat in reality ppl look at their physical appearances
we have 2 face it
it's in our hormones
u wanna blame things, blame it on our hormones
it's our fault tat our hormones are the SOLE reason tat makes this realistic world beauty-driven
it's natural tat employers employ those with more beauty when 2 contenders are of equal job ability
therefore those who realize this fact has chose to live with it
and undergo surgery
and now ur saying tat's a bad thing?
tat just sounds plain ignorant to me..

I think the big, most important question to this is: "Are you having plastic surgery for the right reason?"
And, I don't think many people in the world do it for the right reason. Look at those plastic beauties that are addicted to it that they do it, do it, do it over and over and over again. And yea, those Korean highschoolers that have a plastic surgery as graduation gift. It's just wrong.
But let me give an example of some people that do it for the right reason. There's this guy I watched a couple days ago in Dr. Phil. He looks normal from the outside...But when he takes his clothes off, voila...he has a natural man breast (yea, like females have but so flappy like old men). He feels insecure about it...BUT he has tried his very best to get rid of it. He goes to gym, he does exercises everyday, he swims, he eats well, and today, he is very fit. But, the man breast is still there. And for him to go to plastic surgery as a last resort is a very reasonable thing because it is his last resort, and he has done his very best to get rid of it. And for him, I would approve his decision on taking plastic surgery.
But I should add that if some people take plastic surgery because they want to be forever young...No, it's not for the right reason. Being old is a natural process. Sure, they can apply skincare product to slow the process of aging. But to have a plastic surgery in this case is wrong because to have one is to defy what they are naturally meant to be; they are meant to get old. We all are.
Anyway, if that guy doesn't exercise but crying everyday about it...And he's doing the plastic surgery...I think it's wrong. And yea, if he doesn't feel insecure in the first place...there's no need of plastic surgery in the first place.
That's my take on it.

I dunno why, but plastic surgery gives me the creeps. There was once when i was watching a show on television where this girl wanted to have britney spears breast, i mean, is it really necessary. It really disgusts me, hers was perfectly normal and she wants to alter it. But i would have to agree with the above post, plastic surgery should be done with the right reason, not to look like celeb's.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where some people just can't grow the confidence to live with their natural bodies. It is a confidence boost for people who aren't on the pretty side of the gene pool (harsh but true). In our shallow world today, looks are important (It's the fucking media's fault) and when one is hypnotized to thinking that they are an ugly duckling (by parents or significant others), that really damages their self-esteem and other psychological parts. Sometimes it might even lead to suicide (pretty extreme, but it happens). Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean I won't agree with it.
Oh yeah... and with Korea... My boss at Todai is Korean and he told me that it's just a normal thing in Korea for people to have plastic surgery. 0_o?? It's as common as a new trendy skirt. Dang... so plastic surgeons in Korea should be making a pretty shiny penny over there... but also... since they have so much practice, might as well just get any type of surgery there... whether it's for looks or health reasons...

I think that plastic surgery is fine in itself, especially for medical purposes of reconstruction, or if people genuinely will boost their self esteem from going through with the surgery. However, I definitely think that it can be taken too far, and some celebrities especially (just look at Melanie Griffith and Michael Jackson!!) go completely overboard. However, a little surgery is fine in my opinion, as long as it makes a person feel more secure about their looks, which can transfer across into their confidence levels and overall happiness.

"Plastic Surgery, the only field in Science that fixes what isn't broken."
I think that quote is from Nip Tuck. Haha, but my opinion on plastic surgery is that it's not neccesary, but if people are willing to accept the risk and consequence, and they understand and take full responsibility of what may go wrong, then it is not up to us to decide their decision.

god or whoever made us (ie. our parents' genes :D) made us the way we are
we are all beautiful in our own way and shouldn't change the way we are just so we can be what society says is beautiful. tastes of society change annually, seasonally, even weekly and if we use plastic surgeory to change the way we are just to fit into stereotypes of "beauty" then we're all going to look like the very hot michael jackson..*sHuDd3rZ* i know i never want to look like him.
we should all appreciate what we're giving and know that beauty is what's inside. no one can take that away from you.

I am totally absolutely AGAINST any forms of plastic surgery. I am a strong opposer when it comes this plastic surgery. I mean, what are people thinking?? You hurt yourself to become 'better than before', but what's the need?? Yea, one may say it'll bring up my self-conciousness, but YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE. Anything you hurt yourself to improve yourself is just simply .. DUMB.....
Yea, that's my opinion.. lol
Go ahead and beautify yourself using plastic surgery if it will increase your self confidence, etc but as with everything, moderation is the key word. Some people get addicted to it and end up on a downward spiral.
Also, don't vehemently deny that you've undergone the knife if you have. I respect artistes all that more if they just come right out and say "Yes, I went for a nose/boob/whatever job". I hate it when it's so obvious that they've gone for surgery yet insist on denying it. I mean, c'mon, the world is not stoopid

it's totally disgusting. my mom's rich friends have these stupid surgeries just for fun in their free time... they look like a barbie doll... it's so stupid... you should let your real self out... yea people calling you ugly because they feel insecure of themselves. if you actually would get it to get your boobs or ass or whatever better just to get your physical look better, that is really idiotic. what actually counts is your mental side... i've seen what happens when people goes through surgeries because people be talking all about them and saying "you fat and ugly get a face job."... when one of my friends get made fun of i jump up in this guy's face and tell him that s/he's not as ugly as how you really are... you so shallow i can see right through you."

Great topic. O…oO.. most of you guys does not approve of plastic surgery, me on the contrary sort of agree on plastic surgery. It is true that we should respect what God has given to us and what counts is what is inside, not the outside. And yes, that some people treat plastic surgery as an addiction, once you did it, you become more obsess and want some more.
But… have you ever heard of:”survival of the prettiest”. Pretty people (girl/ boy) usually happier and more confident than the one that not. Pretty face can give you more opportunity, more admiration, more respect, more friends, and..much much more.
I haven’t undergone any plastic surgery, but if I think I need it, and have the money (and the courage…gees going under the knife does freaks me out)..perhaps I would do it.
Until high school, I was a quite a nerd, and some of my friends bullied me for my appearance. And they set this large gap, and put people into some level based on physical appearance. You know how teenagers can be cruel to their own peers.
At college I do make some change on my physical appearance. And yeah.. life is better when you’re prettier. More attention, more friends, more opportunity and more confidence. And somehow being prettier change my life.
So, having gone through that stage of life, I don’t blame ppl who goes for plastic surgery just to be prettier. I mean, people could be hard on you if you’re not pretty enough, and why do you have to go through long-term insults, self-hatred stage if you can change that just through a simple nose job or eyelid operation?
I have friends that have undergone plastic surgery. And yeah their appearance improves, and it boosts their confidence as well and it does make them a happier person.
I don’t think plastic surgery as a one way out of confidence issue, just like bulimia and anorexia, it’s not healthy. But I do approve that plastic surgery can give you some good impact on your life. Just don’t take it too much.
And what Odium De Vangelis said was quite true. Treat plastic surgery as a last resort if everything else fail. Make-up, haid-dos and your personal style of clothing combine with a good personality can make you more attractive instead a single nose job.
Sorry for ranting, hehhehe.. just a thought I’d like to share.

woah, plastic surgery.
lets seee.....i wish that i had:
-bigger eyes
-more proportioned nose
-higher forehead
-smaller ears
-smaller fingers
-skinnier toes
-ummm.....the skin right underneath my elbow right next to the crook of my arm to be JUST A BIT more taut.....
...uhhh... see? I could go on forever....
plastic surgery is really not exactly necessary, and unless you have nostrils that are bigger your toes, then you might have a problem and should undergo plastic surgery to look more proportioned.
(i've never seen anybody with nostrils bigger than their toes)

I think plastic surgery is ok. It's a personal choice.
As long as the person doesn't go around calling everyone else ugly. But I believe strongly if you get plastic surgery don't deny it. I'm not against plastic surgery, I'm just against people who get it and deny it. If you arn't natural, then you arn't natural.
But I think in a sense most people get plastic surgery (the more major ones i.e nose + eyejob, face reshaping + boob enlargements) because they have something inside themselves that is missing. So usually plastic surgery doesn't solve things unless it's used for medical reasons. Because if you really hate how you are, plastic surgery, will not make you love yourself anymore. I think complementary counseling should come with those who undergo major comestic operations. After all they have to learn to beautify their insides along with their outsides.

Be yourself, thats what makes you special.
When you change your looks...you subconciously changes your personality...
And when you change your personality...you look the part that makes you SPECIAL...
However...if you have suffered from a bad accident..
and are disfigured...go ahead...and improve your looks to improve your confidence..
however...confidence should come from your within...
you should not base it on looks...
My advice is...be happy with who your are..
You're special no matter what.
*I should follow my own advice ^^*
