View Full Version : Cheatin' at school

okay, at my school last year, there was this big cheatin scandal, that people were cheatin on their finals exams, mostly in the ap and honor ( advance placement-honor classes). like a couple of the kids stole a test/s and posted on their own kind of forum to share with others. and i think their were other ways too, :worry: however someone leaked and the administrion heard about it makin the tests more harder and more stricter takin 'em. and that's all i know about from hearin from one of my friends.
okay my opinion: well, when i first think of cheatin is mostly people who the dumb kind who cheat. now is like whoa  smart people in ap classes cheat, nah uh. lol. and these arent like the kids who want to be smart but are the really smart ones, like top ten percent of their classes. oh well that's what happen when they got so much ap classes and the pressure just got into them.
so what's ur view on this?
 by the way they already started shootin about this on Dr.Phil's show but im not sure when it'll be aired on tv. :glug:

There is more pressure to perform when you are expected to get good grades. Unfortunately, the bar can only be set so high when it comes to numbered/lettered grades. I guess it's like a drug? You need more and more to give you that rush. Anything less than that is unacceptable and considered to be a failure. I went into a class expecting an A and got an A- and was utterly depressed for a week. It still bothers me today if I start thinking about that class..... 2 months removed from the event
People who cheat who get better grades than me make me sick. We all cheat though...

zhy378 Yea I was very surprised when I found out some of the really smart people cheating. I agree with you. They are smart by themselves but they pack their schedules so tight that they are forced to cheat to get the grades they need/want.
GaryDAI I agree with you're last comment. We do all cheat in some way or fashion. Even asking, so how was it (a test or something) can be considering cheating because if someone says,"It was hard", then you would study like crazy and opposite if easy.
It makes me feel like a failure especially if I work really hard at something and get a lower grade than someone who cheated. But if I get a good grade, I know myself that I learned something and earned it. And I know that it is their fault that they cheated. So, although the whole grading system is screwed up b/c of cheating, I *hope* that I benefit from not cheating (as much .. ).
I remember last year, there were a string of mass cheating in school. First, a student stole a math test and passed it out to his friend. Second, a student had gotten a test from a grade higher student and it was the same test. Fortunately, or unfortunately for those classes, the teacher saw the test on the copy machine (lol.. they didn't hide it well) and make a totally new test. I feel bad for the students who didn't have the other test tho. Third, a substitute was giving out the test and he wasn't so good so everyone started talking and exchanging answers. Yea.. those are some stories...
Once I was accused of cheating, it was bad...

I know why people would cheat in AP classes and Honors classes. Trust me. It's very tempting. Especially the AP Exams.
We had a cheating scandal too. :D A student TA jacked a test and e-mailed to some of his buddies and were caught and suspended.
LOL. And zhy378, what's your deal with smart people?! I read your thing on the other thread about GATE and now this?? Smart people cheat too! They're normal people!!! I've seen it! I'm a student TA as well. I can tell when the answers are too similar!
It's the pressure to succeed that drives people to do things like this. We had a whole two pages of our newspaper dedicated to cheating. Majority of people do it for good grades. Sometimes things are too overwhelming and you just don't have time to study or what not so you cheat. Even AP and Honors students have problems.
Our Salutatorian was caught cheating just last month, btw. Smart or not, there's always pressure.
I was accused of helping someone cheat once. It was bad too. But I got her back in front of the whole class.
Here is what was said.
Me: Look, I know you think I cheated, but I didn't.
Her: Yes, I do.
Me: I personally don't care what you think about me because I know what I did and I know I didn't cheat. However, I don't need you influencing the rest of the class do believe that I cheated when I didn't. I know I didn't do it and that all I need.
After class I saw her mark an "N" under me for citizenship. And the last words I spoke to her all year and the rest of my life were:
"You want to take this to the principal, I dare you. You won't win. I'm an AP, Honors, and GATE student and I came from a Highly Gifted elementary school. Anyone will vouch for me. As for your teaching methods and grading policies...I don't think you want that brought into the light. You know nothing about me and you have no idea how persistent I am. Take this out on my grade and you'll never hear the end of me."
And I left. I finished the year and I never looked back. Teacher was a b*tch from the beginning and never liked me. :P
She never spoke to me again. I never spoke to her again. :D It was the first time I ever spoke up to a teacher. XD BUT DAMN DID IT FEEL GOOD.

I used to cheat like hell on tests and other minor stuff when I was in secondary school, mostly on Math and science-related subjects (because I can't do science and still have my sanity intact), and sometimes on Chinese too; it was such a pain to memorise all the words in the phrases handbook or whatever and memorise the definitions too. I hardly ever cheated on year-end exams though, because the chances of getting caught are higher and I was never really rebellious enough for it, not even when I didn't study nuts for the exam, which was usually the case for me back then. And the funny thing? Even when I cheated on my tests, I still managed to fail. My friends and I used to pass each other our Math solutions (or rather, our attempts at solutions) during tests and all, like under the table or whatever. And this one time, two girls in front of me cheated by crushing their answer sheets and throwing it to each other when the teacher had her back turned. But I don't really remember anyone getting caught though. At least, there wasn't ever any scandals like the ones that you guys have described.
But yeah, after secondary school, when I got to pre-university education, I just stopped cheating. I mean, seriously, what's the point in cheating on minor tests when there's really no chance in hell you could pull it off during the main exam? You might as well study for your tests, do well and feel proud. I always felt better about myself when I did well on something that I knew I'd studied like hell for than when I got a nice grade for a test which I cheated on. That's probably why I hated secondary school. :-)
Regarding pressure, I agree that pressure's always present, and I think the smart people get it worse sometimes because of all the expectations placed upon them. But...I don't know, when I took my A Levels last year (kinda like university entrance exams), it almost killed me because of all the pressure I placed on myself, and it didn't help either that I was in a lousy school with a superiority complex and I wanted to do well so that I could prove everyone wrong, and then the prelim results were out and it turned out that I topped the school in English and topped the Arts cohort in two subjects, and that was when even more pressure came down on me. I've never cried more in my life than I did during the A Levels period, and self-doubt was never more pervasive. And I'm convinced that I bombed my English paper because I was so damn nervous that I took half an hour to plan my essay, which means that the distinction I got...is gone. (I don't really know yet because I'm still waiting for my results, but I digress.)
Despite that, cheating never occurred to me. I guess it's primarily because it would be literally impossible to cheat on your A Levels, since the question papers are guarded so tightly that no one except the Cambridge question setters and the Ministry of Education people or whomever will get to see it before the day of the exam itself. Still, even if it was a possibility...I don't know, I still think you'd feel a lot better about yourself if you got your As without cheating, when you know for sure that it's the fruit of your (tedious and enervating and incredibly onerous) labour.
That's what I think anyway.

I have to admit that I cheat before but that was only on the monthly's exam. On semester exam or important exams (Pmr, SPm) *SPM= O Level*, i dont dare to cheat at all
I guess there's always a time to cheat or not to cheat. Dont ever try to fool around the big exam.
I have this friend who had been cheating the whole year and was not even caught. When she first cheated, I saw it actually and pretended nothing happen. I thought she might not revise enough or things like that. you know, trying to be supportive towar4ds and thinks its ok. She kinda got worst and this time, many more noticed. She kept paper in her pockets ( It was notes) She will took it out and kinda slip it between her tissues and pretend to be sneezing. On certain occasion, she will request to go to the ladies. She once got 60/60 for history. She's kinda dumb and lazy and very talkative in class. Everyone was so surprised. ITs like- HISTORY! not anyone can get as good as that. Anyhow, high school ended and no one actually tell out her bad stuffs to teacher and she got it all off SAFELY.

but its kinda weird, well not weird but interestin how there are some teacher who would know there are some cheatin goin around in their class but they wouldnt care much. like we would all be copyin off this one kid for a world civ wordsearch classwork. and the teacher would be alright, hurry up in five minutes, lol. but then it depends i guess on the teachers, the subject and the work they are given to do. but of course if it was like in an ap class like calculus, ZERO!

wow zhy378, your school sounds a LOT like mine. last year we had a HUGE cheating scandal. it was blown totally outta proportion though! we were on the front page of the mercury news for many days, the local tv news people came, and were even on CNN. like seriously, i don't understand why they put all this limelight on OUR school. i guess cuz it was a series of events, like a guy stole an APUS test, some guy changed his trig grade, and then some other stuff that i don't really remember. anyway, the guy who changed his trig grade got expelled or suspended, or SOMETHING and then he stole some stuff from the science department to make a bomb or something. although my teacher told me he stole enough to only blow up a trash can or something.
anyway, there were a lot of new policies, like for history this year we have to hand write everything and yeah, it was a really bad year for our school and this year they just decided to make all these changes for next year to "decrease stress" by dropping the extra grade point, getting rid of +/-, and dropping the standard to get into H/AP for some classes.
seriously, the San Jose Mercury News hates our guts. "why students at 'my school' are cheating." like they only targeted us and i know ppl who said the same things happen at their school. they just despise us. grrr, everyone at our school hated the SJMN at that time.

I'm a TA for an AP Calculus AB class...and let me tell you, cheating in that class is IMPOSSIBLE. There's just too much work involved. You may get the answers, but you can't get the work.
I think cheating is all stupid. XD

cheating seems like a daily routine in school. to me it aint something big at all
but most of you are right...its all bout pressure. though we are all young but then theres already people with all sorts of thoughts. some study their way through and still cant get a way out, whereas some got fed up with this and became someone dishonest, which i think the fault belongs to education...
i cheated in some minor test before and i can tell you, when i see the marks i simply cant give it a damn. no matter how good it is i just wont be happy as its not something i really worked for :worry:
sometimes i really wondered whats the point for making learning something so ugly. society rising, living standard flying up like hell and everything in life suddenly became like a mission impossible, and it turns out that education was affected too...i feel that its not the students that is to be blame, its more like the education system control by the government is in guilt. if they only they could be more lenient and give everyone a space to breathe, things wont turn out so ugly.

I know it sounds very unbelievable but I never cheated in my life before and I hope I will never do that...for me, cheating is just for those people who are too lazy to study...
For example, you cheat on a test in a subject where you are really bad...then you got the test back and you got an A. Would you be proud of yourself?? I wouldn`t...I would feel ashamed...

i feel the same way, i hate people who cheat, and i hate people who ask for questions on tests before they take them. however, when i was younger.. a few years younger, i went to chinese school and cheated on the tests. of course i still got C's but i cheated. i didn't really feel bad then because well.. chinese school didn't matter. in [regular] school i have never cheated, i think the guilt would KILL me. :shy:

I'm quite bashful to say this but...
I admit that I'm a cheater!
No.I ain't a frequent cheater.
I only cheat on some occasions. :shifty:
Like,for example,I forgot...
no,I DIDN'T do my assignments in school.
But sometimes,I even get a higher score in exams
compared to those whom I cheated.
But I'm proud to say that I don't cheat during exams.
Only on minor exams like quizzes and short tests. :bleh:
I'm afraid of being caught.
I think it depends on whats your reason that you cheat.
sometimes you'll face up to some stupid teacher that teach a and test comes out b... you study for a didn't come out so much.. and stuff like that. i admit on most test i cheated, actually just checking answers w/ my friends and confirm those stuff (still considered cheating ), worst part of cheating if you didn't admit it and very proud of it..... although i would agree cheating be consider a shortcut, sometimes you really have to do it, depending on the reason i guess... or situation. any one in the world would have cheated in a way that maybe we dont realize but humans are not perfect so keep that in mind ^^.

I think some people cheat due to the fact that they hv pressures around them.
Like for instance, I am tempted to cheat, especially when I see everyone around me cheating. I get afraid that if they cheat, they get higher marks than me..I'd feel like a fool, being so honest there, when everyone else cheats away and scores.
There were some times, (not my experience) where someone did not cheat, and another friend of that person cheated. When the results came out, the one who cheated got higher than the person who was honest. She ended up saying , "okay, next time, I'll cheat too"
I guess its just the pressure of wanting to excel, and if someone cheats, you get tempted too also, just in order to get a good grade.
After all, getting good grades are kinda important too, and to some ppl, they do to whatever extent to get that good grade, including cheating.
Though so, its not entirely students' fault. Some lecturers or teachers have bad planning, not to mention bad teaching skills, which result in student not understanding fully about a subject. And worse is, right after that u get a POP quiz about that subject..and there u go, u start cheating.

yes.i did cheat before but only in the minor exams like common test!well,my sec school really gives us alot of common tests every week so much so many of us dont really want to study anymore.but as you know, everyone is competitive.who doesnt want to do well despite not studying for the test?i still remember we had to read this particular chinese book and later have a test on it.they allowed us to have the test open book but only like the last 15mins or so.it was mass copying for my class especially the last 15mins.the teacher didnt really care partly because my chinese teacher is really has a heck care attitude.although he knew we were copying,he didnt do anything to us.but for major exmas of course not...i wont copying..it is really pointless to do so

Cheating. Wow...what a big topic.
I've never actually cheated on a test or quizzes before. But I must admit to copying homework a lot back in 6th grade...>.< I have since, changed. Now, instead of asking my friend to copy her homework [she'd ask for mine too. it was a good friendship]...I just don't do it at all. ^_~
I don't think I would ever contemplate cheating at a major test or exam. And...well, its not really a MORAL issue with me. I'm not sure...its just something I don't want to do and I dont' really need to do. I've just grown up to not really want to cheat. ((shrug)) so it is kind of a moral issue I guess.
But I do have a very good friend who "cheated" or "plagiarised" on her final. And...I'm not berating her bad and immoral decision. I just sympathize with her for all the crap she had to go through...but that's just a friendship thing I guess.
I did see a friend cheat before. Once, in 7th grade, we were taking a really minor quiz. And my friend was doing her quiz on top of her binder. After I finished my quiz [this was before...when I used to actually study and get good grades haha] I was just looking at her...and I realized that she had her notes under her binder. Her binder was like that opaque whitish thing that you can see throug if you push something up really close to it.
I didn't snitch on her though. ((shrug)) It was only a quiz right?

i'll admit, i do cheat at school, mainly when i have a big test, and it's usually cos of grades. morally, it's wrong, i suppose. but when i cheat, dis the way i think, if i cheat, i have like a 99% of doing good on the test, other 1 %, if i get caught, and if i do good on that test, it'll raise my grade, which will make my parents happy. parents have no idea how they affect their child's life.
cos i see a difference in the way my parents act around me and treat me, when they're happy that i got a 3.83 on my first quarter. they were esctatic. and they just expect me to keep that same grade, so there's a whole lot of pressure.
but cheating, is a bad habit, and eventually it will escalate

I've cheated on some English tests this past semester and look at some multiple choices on the scantron sheet but that's about it. It's a pretty bad habit and hopefully I can stop soon.
Trust me, you guys won't be able to cheat in University. It may be open to cheat, big class rooms, little survilance but when you get caught, the consequences are huge. Also, if other students catch you cheating, you'll get ratted out. It's now people paying for school and they don't want to compete with kids who are cheating and making them look bad in such a high class institute.

*whew* finally they showed the episode of people from my school on dr.phil show.
http://www.drphil.com/show/show.jhtml?contentId=3113_teenscheatgamble.xml
the people from my school r in the 'higfh-techcheatin' part of the show, lol...
soooo....anyway.....so there r like two kinds of cheatin : the lazy way and the competitive-top of the class way. and it just happen the people at my school who cheats r the mostly top of the class, lol.
there's the kinds who cheat cuz they r lazy and just want their work done so they can do their other stuff, even though they r smarter than that.
then there's the umm... smart ones tryin to compete with their classmates so they can get into hecka good colleges, since after all it sure is way harder to get into universities these days than it used to be.... :shifty:

alot people just percieve cheaters, as lazy people who dont study, true i guess some of them are. but then again, some people just have a talent for books, and others dont. but i dont think anyone should get in a deep habit of it, cos then u'll kinda be addicted to it, den one day u gon get caught, and that is bad sh*t.
i dont think students should rat people out, its just dumb, shut up and take the test, dont bother lookn at other people, and gettn them in trouble. it;s just all about privacy.

Cheaters are really annoying, especially when they try to cheat off honest people. The problem with cheating is that it not only screws over themselves, but also the other person, which is an entirely selfish act. Not only that, the person who actually studies should be the one who gets the higher grade. In life, after college, who will the cheaters cheat off of then? In a doctor's operating room, will he be cheating off the other doctor beside him?

I guess for those "smart" people they feel that they are losing sight of their ability and thus can resort to nothing else but cheating and yeh I guess its also competitiveness. As for cheating I hate to admit but when I first started high school I was very worried about the exams so I used to write little notes and put them in my pocket. but I was always too wussy to look at them in the actual exam O_o;; I guess that if I was caught the punishment would be much worse or it could have been my morales... for asian parents, pride is everything and finding out that their child cheated would totally break that. I couldn't imagine how much they would nag and nag and nag O_o;;
I remember 1 time in grade 8 my friend got a hold of an english test we were going to do. She studied off the test and sure enough she got 46/50 because all she had to do was regurgitate what she had remembered. Come to think of it I wondered how she got a hold of it in the first place... Kinda unfair because getting a hold of the test before you do it is cheating. Though I don't think less of people who cheat because some people want to get a good mark so bad~

Maybe at the age 15, things don't care so much but once you get to your last grade of high school or into university you'll understand. I mean I'd hate to see someone go up and grab the awards in excellence in academics when they cheated. Then you can't tell them it's all about privacy because you cheated to get there.
You may think that it's not to anyone's benefit to rat someone out, but it is. People need high marks to advance to their desired career in university i.e. you are studying life sciences at a university but then you have to submit your marks after your first year to major in something more specific and people aren't going to let students in the institution cheat and beat them when they're paying a good 10grand or even more if they're coming from out of town. Rat on them once, they get expelled from the university and it increases your chances of getting into the program and they'll most likely be exempted from all universities around the region or even state.

So study your ass off then. I hate people who whine about failing their tests when they're too busy cutting classes to know anything about the subject. I'm not very sympathetic towards cheaters; the bunch I've come across...are just losers. I mean, yeah, I used to cheat, but that was years ago when I was a stupid teenager who didn't think that exams and one's academic qualifications were important. It's much better and fulfilling to get a good grade on your own than to resort to cheating.

I guess if you want better grades then you'll just have to put in more effort.
I'm one of those you actually cheated most of the time during my lower secondary school days. It's so easy to cheat during class tests and mid-semester tests. Someitmes i even think that the teachers are dumb. There's just too many ways that we can cheat in that small-4-walls-compound. Then when i started to actually put in some effort and head for the books and really prepared for the tests and get better grades, people want to copy my work. Hmmm, and i actually help quite a few people cheat in their tests too. It's very difficult to say no to them, they are my friends and it's like if I don't help them, i'm afraid i'll lose them. Then when i went into college, i got into trouble for unintentionally helping a friend cheat. It just didn't occur to me that i'm not suppose to lend my notes to them. Then apparently my so-called-friend photocopied it and did a mass distribution, people in 4 different classes actually have my notes. Then i has to go to the head of school to settle the issue. At least after i reason out to them that, i got a pass grade instead of the big zero. Then now i learn my lesson that those people aren't exactly my friend. It's not worth keeping them as friends and i have to suffer so much from it. So when i got into Uni, i don't bother with such people anymore. I don't even bother discussing the assignments with people who don't want to put in any effort and just want my answers. Just have to do your best and accept the results, if you are not happy, then do more work. And i agree with hasashiluv14 that you'll get a great sense of satisfaction when you do the work yourself and get good grades. =)
Cheating is very wrong but i have to admit that i once cheat before in a test, but it was not entirely my fault cause the whole class was cheating, if i didn't foolow them, i would definitely lose out. ARGH! Felt bad tough after i cheated, but then i have turn over a new leaf. lol...

Yeah, I do break a law if I don't respect it - although I end up respecting most of them, because they contribute to a healthy, just, society.
If you are forced against your will to take a class that has no meaning in your future, I fail to see the point of devoting my time to it. Usually, it would be something small, like using common sense for most of it, and then checking with the people around me for a few of the "out there" questions - and I haven't cheated on anything that would determine my grade.

Wow, you're four years older than me...but amazingly less mature. I still can't believe you're following around my comments just to mock me ~ is it your time of the month perhaps?
Oh yeah ~ there was this guy who bought out the ice tea right before me. It made me so mad, I just had to bomb the school.... _-_
If I believe it's just, honest, and/or intelligent, then I respect it. If it isn't, then why should I? What about taxation without representation? The US would still be under the control of Britain if the people didn't question how fair the laws were.
Besides ~ right and wrong are determined by the morality of the person in question (point of view). If someone believed abortion is murder, then they would feel that everyone pro-choice is evil and were wrong in their actions.
Yes, there are a few terribly sick people who believe that the world (in its whole) is unjust, and their demented view is correct - so they use violence to inspire revolution. It's not a new trick ~ you should watch "The Battle of Algiers" for a better understanding of it (it's also a good movie).
So, by assuming the "holier than thou" comments, you've never done anything wrong in your entire life? Wow, you must be a saint ~ thank you for enlightening me on how people can condem others out of spite, when they're own actions aren't better.

you are not a cheater when you don't get caught.
smart cheating is advanced cheating.but in most cases,it is hard and cheating is quite dumb.the percentage of getting caught is pretty high.
if you want to cheat in the first place, there's no point in taking the test.

Honestly ~ it's like your whole purpose is to follow me around and mock me. Am I that annoying to you?
I believe in what I say, and believe I should be straight-forward when talking about it. I don't believe I have all the answers on something, but I'm not willing to change my view unless something decent is presented. If no one can challenge what I'm saying in an intelligent way, I don't see why I should change my viewpoint to accomidate you.
If you're still pissed about how I responded to your arguments in the "obesity support" thread, you need to realize it's not because I think I'm better than you, but because you put forth a weak point, and I want to see if you can defend it. If you can defend them, debate with me, then I think it's great. If it falls into name calling ~ then I lose respect for you.
If you look back to what I wrote, I merely stated my opinion. It wasn't until everyone challenged what I wrote, that I propped up my comments, and challenged your (general people) own weak assertments.

yeah i dont know one person who doesn't cheat at least once a week...and all of those friends have from 1-4 AP classes so they're not dumb either. people just do it because they're desperate because they didnt have enough time to do homework or to study, etc. the only classes that are impossible to cheat in are the calculus classes because there are 4 forms to every test..i think every class should have 2 or more forms to stop cheating.
everytime i tried cheating by looking at one of my friends answers...mmh i already had the right answer bu then i would change it to my friend's wrong answer..so i got what i deserved. =)
hmm i dont think cheating will ever go away as long as the possibility to cheat is there

cheating is totally unacceptable in my opinion, because it'll make you want to slack off your work and won't show how good you really are doing in that course.(though, i might have cheated in primary skool when i was little :P)
couple day ago, some of the kid at my school magnet program(courses for smart kid)got caught cheating on their physic test by the teacher(they were swaping their test, so it's very obivous that the teacher noticed) and they were suspensed from school for 3 to 5 day and a referral to the principal office, and also got kick out of the magnet program(those kid that got caught cheating is really smart kid too, cause i have some class with them, and they have all straight A in every class that they took, so it's really suck for them, but that's the consequence for cheating.) so this show that the people that cheat on test, even the smart kid, will get caught somehow.

Cheating in AP classes is just plain out stupid. what the hell are you going to do when the AP exam comes, your going to freakin fail the whole dam test and not get any college credit. You have to know the curiculum, thats just it, you cant when your cheating. I mean everyone has done it atleast once, but there always has to be limit to cheating or else you're just stupid. I'm cheating right now, but its not something really based on my grade. just coping notecards. why would you try and risk geting a weeks suspension (which goes on your record) just for a simple task that could of been done on your own effort. Seriously, cheating from others finals and exams, that just dam low. have you quit and all your self-confidence has flew away. maybe your just always tired, and lazy, so you ocassionally cheat off another's paper. why would you even try anymore, since your so lazy why do you even give such an effort to suceed, working off others work.

Most people would probably think that cheating's only done by people who are "lazy" or "stupid", and the "smart" ones would never ever cheat.
While it's true that SOME of those who cheat do so because they just can't be bothered to study (in that case I'm baffled as to why they even study), it doesn't mean that the smart people don't. In fact, cheating may even be more pervasive among these people simply because of the higher pressure they're under to excel academically.
Imagine everyone around you: parents, relatives, teachers, friends, all expecting you to score As constantly, and putting you down or telling you off if you get a B just because they think you're smart, so you HAVE to get an A. It's not easy living up to expectations like these. If you come across an exam that happens to be tough, or a subject you don't really like or can't understand very well, you're bound to panic at the possible loss of your A grade. That's when these people are driven to cheat.
I knew a guy vaguely in my university, whom everyone thought was really smart because he aced all his classes and was even on a scholarship. But the pressure really got to him and one day he was caught cheating on a test. Luckily for him, it was just a test and not a major exam, so his scholarship wasn't revoked, but he was given a warning, counselled and all that. That incident just really brought home to me that sometimes people cheat not because they're lazy, or dumb, but they're actually forced to because of the stress.

I rarely cheats during high school, coz I dont think I need to. Not to brag or anything, but I can pretty much get a good score even without studying during high school. Exams are predetermined and I have planned on when I actually need to study.
But in university, lecturers like to suddenly gave us a 'suprise' quiz/test and sometimes I don't have enough time to fully revise for a test. And to add matters worse, I usually spend the lectures sleeping at the back of the class. During those moments, I can assure you, there is an open text book under my desk. And sometimes a page of notes. I cheat a few times during monthly tests, but never during the final exams. I'll get guilty attack if I do so.
But still, I rarely cheats, unless really really really desperate. (I mean, no one is perfect rite? Even straight A students have moment of weakness)

In my opinion, almost everyone cheats. Either for their own benefits or just for the sake for helping a friend to pass in an examination by showing him or her the correct answer. Some of us were unfortunate to be influenced by friends while others resorted to cheating because they are afraid of getting poor grades or were just lazy to study.
In my school a lot of people cheat during the public examinations. Then of course I won't mention the name of the school. We help each other out with the difficult questions in the exam paper. Even top students cheat too. Well, since that we all graduated, I was glad that none of my the friends I knew were caught.
In short, I think that it is best no to cheat to achieve something or just to make oneself better. We can cheat to outshine others but we can never escape the fact that we have cheated to acquire a better score.

even though those smart students cheat, they will get away with it, they wont be punished as much compared to people who are assumed to be cheating. for example, my ex-classmates, they cheat and failed that class, but their gpa still high like 4.3, still get to make up for the class and got into a really good college. cuz when they get caught, they willl have people to defend them such as their parents " oh not my son, he get straight A's, and do volunteer work and sport, he's not the kind of kid to do that sort of things.."

i feel that people would tend to take the easier route, which is cheating, to get the results... but i don't think this is very clever either...
look at the behaviour of lazy students like me... we try to get away from doing the work or paying attention during lessons... after that.. when exams come... the fear of parents scolding you when you don't do well.. the fear of students looking down on you, laughing at you, that they stop hanging out with you.. so you feel that you must study otherwise you will lose and stop having a lot of things.. then you try hard to read the book by applying lousy strategies... lying on the bed to read your textbook... rushing through your homework that has suddenly been demanded more by your teachers than in the non-examination period... then it adds on and on until you really feel you must study, that you have no other choice and no other way out..
so the goal becomes to finish the exam and get it over with... and possibly well enough to pass or to be able to get into the stream of your choice, or be assigned to study the subject combination that is deemed superior...
and so cheating comes in here, where you can take this heavy build up of burden off, by simply doing something very simple and requires simple copying that a child can also do.. now i'm not saying that children are inferior.. then copying would allow you to get the mark...
now lets see the thrill, happiness and whatever associated feelings that come along with it...
first of all, i think some people need to correct their idea of 'study hard'... parents, relatives, adults, teachers tell them to 'study hard', and what this makes them think is that they have to put in long hours of studying which they do not like or feel like doing..
this is not right... i think the most efficient way to study is to plan your time and not procrastinate longer and longer.. try to follow the timetable... about giving yourself some leeway to not follow it so strictly, but it would be a recognisable reflection of your activities for the day..
how does it feel when you answer a question that you have learnt and is able to apply effectively?
i was happy to see the MCQ questions that I had just been revising before the exam to come out in the confirmation biology test that i took on 24 november.. i did make a mistake of studying on the examination day, which according to some book, is wrong as it makes the mind tense..
so it felt better that i was able to answer the questions on my own.. i felt that i had learnt the things for my own good and my own useful understanding, rather than just trying to replicate the exam's answer sheet which would be used for marking against your answers..
whereas in cheating, you feel the guilt and all the wrong feelings... so i advise people not to cheat

i think i only cheat when it comes to situation like :
1. i have enough time to look around and ask, coz sometimes the exam gives you so little time (almost none) to look around. i can't barely finish my own answer...
2. when i trust other ppl can answer that question. coz if other ppl also don't know the answer then i'll answer it myself...i only trust in my own luck...:D
well my principle is have faith in yourself ,but if you reach dead end then start asking around...

Well, if you are a science student, you probably would have to do practicals...
In Physics practicals.. you can usually look around to see how other people are doing their experiments.. like there was this time I was confused with the practical worksheet's instructions, even after the teacher's very brief explanation, so I looked around to see how other people hanged the ruler or balanced it on the pivot.. and so on.. I think it really isn't too bad to look around, but you shouldn't be copying people's answers wholesale... definetely not... Because, cliche as this may sound, you don't learn anything new or useful by copying.

I have cheated during school tests before. Wasn't my fault, I studied properly and all that, but there was this question which answer slipped out of my mind. I am sure you people know what I mean. So I asked my neighbour.
Yes, I asked the my classmate beside me. The teacher made it easy in the first place anyway. I know this sound bad, but I can't miss the question. It was the type that was divided into a few parts and if you can't answer the first one, you can't answer the rest.
There is another occasion where I cheated. During a very very crucial exam. The paper was given out and the teacher told us all to check the number of the pages and if there is any mistake. I saw this question that I didn't know the answer but know precisely where it is written in the textbook, so i went out of the class pretending to get stationary and then checked the answer.
Okay, my confessions are out. Hahaha.

Wow, it's that easy to cheat, and not get spotted or caught red - handed?
One of my own cheating experience...
I was new in school, in Secondary 1, and I had made some new friends... That was probably only the first month of school and there was a Chinese spelling test.. I kept trying to copy but the Chinese teacher kept keeping an eye on me.. At the end, when he asked for the spelling books to be collected, I took advantage of the confusion, where everyone was telling their friends that they were going to fail for sure, to quickly copy all the answers from my friend's book... My teacher caught me..

It's always been the smarter people who cheat. They understand how the system works and they run with it. They think of tricks that allows them to cheat without anyone else finding out. They do things that sometimes dumber kids wouldn't think of. I don't have a big problem with cheating, its the way life works afterall. As long as they're cheating and are capable of succeding its not a big problem. You should really keep it to yourself when it comes to cheating.

Cheating, is actually not a bad thing. Cheating shows you 2 MAJOR BIG THINGS
1) THAT YOU HAVE BALLS TO CHEAT
2) SMART , CUZ YOU MADE UP A PLAN, TO STEAL THE SHEET OR CHEAT ON A TEST

hey! you cant cheat all through life!
so wat are you gona do when you cant? what if you were like a doctor and you didnt kno your stuff and so someone died cuz of you? that would be horrible! or what if you got caught and wat you've worked for all your life was taken away from you cuz you cheated?
the score you get isnt what you're capable of...you're admitting defeat before the actual test...thats just gay!

I hate cheating...last year, in my history class....I got this teacher...I was sitting among a sea of jocks I swear....and they were all cheating...whispering and turning around...like ALL the way...and talking, sharing answers....there was only 1 row between us and the teacher...but then again she's old...I even got my test snatched to be copied off of once......its not too hard to study before a test....
If you cheat just to pass a test, that can only mean that you don't know what is being tested on. So if you don't and you get the degree/diploma/certificate/etc, are you 100% happy in the knowledge that you actually cheated to get that certification ?
In a nutshell, cheating is really cheating yourself of gaining good knowledge.
Dno't cheat. To me, it's more honorable to do badly and face up to it than to cheat and pass with flying colours.

Yeah! it's freaking annoying! imean like when they get upgraded to the first class and you don't it feels like it's not fair! and they took your place in the class when they're not even fit to be in it! can't they just study and work hard everyone does they same and yet they succeed in life...the worst thing is the teachers in my school is not bothered about it they say let them get their punishment when it comes to public exams sigh so unfair! because of people like that now i am in the second calss! i dont deserve this!

okay the recent CHEATING SCANDAL at my school completely blows yours away. of course students in my school cheat in AP and honor classes all the time..it's as if it's not a big deal anymore. however this past december, there was a major scandal because the student body council had been printing fake ID's for the students in our school to take the SAT's. basically, a stupid person would pay a smart person to get a fake ID and take the SAT's for him. so the smart person has the stupid person's name on the picture and the stupid person gets a high score. anyways they were all caught because a person wrote an anonymous letter with many of the cheaters' names.
i'm actually really disappointed in our school that we had to stoop down to such low means to succeed in high school. i mean sure we all get desperate at times to get into a great college but the fake ID's were too much. it's worse because it was mostly the senior class, and this happened around the end of december. so basically senior year, SAT's are over, college applicatoins were over, classes didnt matter anymore..and then BAM all those cheaters got screwed over. some have had their scores canceled, letters of recommendations taken back, and i heard that theyll be blacklisted by collegeboard and their names will be sent to all the colleges. the funny thing is that some of the cheaters were already pretty smart..i knew one who had already scored over 2000.

cheating never helps... in human sense, you have to feel guilty. if you actually cheated and get away with it congrats, but you must've feel like an asshole right? cheating off that schoolmate's work? they studied hard and you are just an idiot who didn't study and is stumped at a question? what if they got it wrong? get that straight...

cheating is a normal thing to me...I admit that I do cheat sometime and so does everyone else I believe. I dont think cheating makes you more stupid. In fact, it kinda gives you an experience in life. And it definitely improves your strategic planning skill (by planning for the cheating strategy so that teachers wont find out) Overall it makes you smarter because I believe life itself is about experience, not about studying.

I think cheating is ok at times but when it gets to a point of doing it often then it is really wrong >< but here at my school ahah our academy is known to be the cheater but at the same time it is known by the teachers although we cheat, we cheat with understanding of it. Cause it is shown that if we dont cheat the grades are still the same as they are. And at my friend school, there school letters switched around spells CHEAT..ahah but i think it is normal for high schoolers to do it. Although i dont do it at all .< i would rather see what true score i would get.

thanx viickyma for ur lastest school scandal. so u know what that mean, it just tell us gettin accepted to college is so competitive that we have to break the laws to succeed. and it seem like this cheatin thing is being more of a big deal, like more "good" kids are willing to do something wrong just to have the "right" successful life.
so does that mean more competition of acceptance to college= higher % of cheatin...:glug:

What's worse than cheating is when you work your ass off to produce some quality stuff, and then the professor assumes it's someone else's work just because you were lazy the first part of the semester. Yeah, so it's graduate level work, do you think I got into this college by being an idiot? Just because I actually put in work at the end so I don't fail, you think I'm a completely worthless writer? Eh ~ what bs. The Dean even dropped all of the charges, and it's been two months, still you haven't given me any credit for the class.

cheating...is bad...
Obviously! :shifty:
I mean, tests and exams are there for your own benefit. Its tests your ability to allow yourself to aim higher the next time.
If you cheat, YOU'RE JUST CHEATING YOURSELF
Even if you have parents that will be angry and punish you, take the punishment, and improve. if you can't improve, explain why to your parents. You're parents should be uuderstanding enough....
IF they CATCH you cheating....thats going to be a worst situation anyways, and ay marks you could have answered without cheating would be in vain. Your whole test/exam will be scraped....
So be good

A guy at my school cheated in our Chemistry trials. Trials were worth like 25% of our year 12 course, so they were pretty important. He got caught and recieved 0.
Cheating in high school and not getting caught does have its advantages, but you really wouldn't want to risk something that big. However, once you get to uni/college, you're really learning for yourself, and learning for life. Rote learning won't help you anymore, neither will memorising essays, writing formulae on your hands, etc. So either you should be prepared to change your study tactics, or start studying efficiently now.
And don't cheat, kids!
