no....see wat happened in U.S when they banned alcohol ?!?! people start making drink illeglally ...and normal everyday people are turned to criminals ! and they had to repeal it ...so my opinion would be no...
i mean if people you know get like arrested for drinking a lil bit of alcohol ... that is not right

hmm I don't think alochol should be ban because it has become such an important part of our culture. We drink alochol mainly for celebration or just to have fun. Although some people abuse the privelege of drinking alochol, letting it be banned will just cause more comotion and lotz of drunk driving ppl.

I think not. Like what simple_love posted, it is our culture. Regardless of where, most people drink to celebrate. Maybe they should amend the law to allow normal drinking but not ban it totally.. Of course there are cons to drinking but this is where yourself control come in. If you are addicted to it, no laws in the world can help cos you will look for other ways to obtain it.

I can hardly see people stop drinking just because it's against the law. x_X

Aha, prohibition is what created the term bootleg. If it didn't work then, why would it work now? Besides, as dangerous as alcohol is, it's more a part of our society than cigarettes. People drink socially, people drink at celebrations, people have alcohol during religious ceremonies. I find it hard to believe alcohol would ever be banned. I wouldn't want it banned. Alcohol is part of the dining experience, after all.

i think drinking is okay, but drinking AND driving is not. i would say drink all you want, but dont drive afterwards.
and i think smoking should be banned for sure. it's not any different from drugs, so why not? there are wayyyy too many teens/tweens who smoke nowadays... it makes me mad. :-x anyway, what am i talking about, this thread is about drinking

Well, it would be wonderful if it is banned but i don't it is possible. :shy:
Since many people may go on drinking illegally as twink0star said, i totally agree withcici bebe :
I can hardly see people stop drinking just because it's against the law. x_X
plus we can stop people from driking at their homes and so on....
Another thing is the taxes that Alcohol companies pay to the governement, if drinking is banned , i can see many people losing their jobs :worry:
hmm I don't think alochol should be ban because it has become such an important part of our culture. We drink alochol mainly for celebration or just to have fun.
Quite right, especially for western areas.
i think drinking is okay, but drinking AND driving is not. i would say drink all you want, but dont drive afterwards.
That's the main problem, the traffic accidents caused by the driving after drinking. I guess that the major concern of most people. That's not only dangerous but also very irresponsible. If you are driving like that not knowing where you are heading you are making your or someone else's grave!@ :-x
I also know that drinking too much will cause liver's problems which it's not good but that's your own choice to take care of yourself or not. :shy:
The most important things is to develop a good education system about alcohol, so that children, teenagers and everybody are aware of the consequences of excessive drinking and how to deal with this.

I think drinking should not be banned. Like what snowflake said, drinking is part of our culture and we drink during celebrations. I don't think drinking will do much harm to us as it is not as addictive as smoking. Alcohol doesn't have much harmful contents as cigarettes. If you smoke, most likely you will be addicted to it for life. But this is not necessarily the case for drinking alcohol. And drinking doesn't affect other people unlike smoking, which will harm other people who have close relationships with the smokers.
However, we should control ourselves if we drink alcohol as too much of it damages our livers. Also, in my country, Singapore, it is against the law to drink alcohol for youngsters below 18 years old.
i think the argument that drinking is part of our culture and hence should be allowed is flawed... true, it is part of our culture, i dont deny that, but the consequences of addiction or binging is just not made aware enough to society. i dont believe it should be banned, especially after the prohibition period in america in the 1920's, which ultimately proved undoubtly that such a ban simply cannot be policed. but, i think it is more important to make sure that society is aware of the possible consequences of drinking too much.. for example, showing graphic pictures regarding the consequences of smoking no doubt reduced the number of smokers, so why not do something similar to stop ppl from drinking too much??
Drinking is okay as long as you drink responsibly...so what's most important is to educate (it's always education education education! lol =P) people about how to drink in a way that doesnt hurt themselves or others.

i think alcohol is okay, only to a certain extent. but drink and drive? big no-no!!
here in austria the drinking-age is 16 (18 for hard drinks).. nonetheless there are enough underaged "kids" who consume alcohol.. yes, they do that illegaly and nobody (can) stops them.. and i think it's getting worse, kids starts drinking earlier and earlier. i'm just wondering where this should lead to?!
i don't think banning alcohol will solve the problem. it's actually like smoking. what you do under your own four walls, nobody can control. you know what i mean? prohibition by law is not a solution. i think it's the parents task to teach them about the consequences of alcohol and so on, since they have a lot of influences over their children.
btw. the government actually can't ban alcohol. it wouldn't be good for the economy. i believe the purchasing power of alcohol is quite strong, and if they restricted it somehow, there would be a lot of losses. you know what i mean?! do i make sense at all?

well, i have mixed feelings about banning alcohol because here in the UK, the legal age for drinking is 18 but that doesnt stop the younger people from drinking because they think its fun getting drunk. They dont see what alcohol does to them in the long run so they drink themselves silly.
Now, in the UK, new laws are soon to be passed that pubs are to be opened 24 hours now to try and combat violence in the early hours. i dont think this will reduce the number of arrests that police officers arrest in the weekend but increase it even further. The only people gaining from all this is the customers and the pub and bar owners.
Also, binge drinking is very common in today's society and where i live is a major problem as there are loadsa promotions on every day trying to get people to go out drinking.
These promotions include 'all you can drink for £10', this is totally outrageous!!!!!! i mean with these promotions how can anyone control their drinking if these are tempting them all the time !

hmm i personally feels that alcohol shouldnt be banned. see in those formal functions its definetly a must to drink wine....and in pub where people relax themselves need some beer or wine too..
it really depends on how one controls himself. we should be the one controling the amount of alcohol we need...not let the alcohol controls our health. as for the drugs(smoking) one...that one should really be ban coz it really harms one's health and other's health too..

why should alcohol be banned? there is nothing wrong with the drink itself. the problem only arises when people are irresponsible with their drinks. so if they're so concerned, they should watch college campuses for underaged drinking. or keep a tighter watch on people in bars so that they won't drive. ok, sure, there is no way in the world where we have enough man power to do that, but my main point is... you can't ban something that isn't bad just because people abuse it. no one banned airplanes because of 9/11, no one banned knives becuase they have a potential to hurt.
and yes, airplanes and knives have really good uses, but wine is at a moderation is good for the heart. i just don't think they can ban it completely.

I do not oppose alcohol drinking as long as it's controlable.
As the ads say,drink moderately.
A moderate amount of alcohol is enough to fuel a person.
A greater amount may eventually lead to crimes, accidents and other alcohol-related incidents.
Alcohol abuse is bad and therefore should be banned.

I don't agree that drinking should be ban. Drinking is alright we enjoy after a day of stress but not too much
Many people from other countries love to drink, even i love to drink but i am underage :-x.
Drinking is really find, it just help you to relax yourself. But if your are really drunk, you should not drive and drinking to often is also bad for your health
So.. take good care :-)

I don't like the drink. I think that all it shall bring is trouble.
In the end the consequences are all based on the decisions made on the drinker...but the consequences can also hurt other people. I've seen people get hurt from it so I oppose of it. Certainly there are certain circumstances that would make me reconsider...but if there were a vote on it...I certainly wouldn't support it.
I may be biased and uninformed though...
Enlighten me!

It all depends on the occasion. It should be banned form certain places like near school areas or anywhere where kids can get to it. On the other hand, it might make kids want it more. You know kids, rebellion. -_- But drinking should be permitted to celebrate a special occasion like weddings. But all in all, alcohol should be banned. Many of car accidents are from DUI. So drinking is a BAD thing.

Personally, I would like to see alcohol be banned, but logically it would never work. As seen in the Progressive Era in the early 1900s in the United States, prohibition didnt work not only because it was part of the culture of many immigrants from the old world but mostly people just illegally obtained it when it was banned. Also, you cant really regulate it very well, so I suppose it would just be better to not ban it so you could at least still be able to monitor who is buying the alcohol.

We have to see to what kind of degree does drinking goes to. If the person drink and drive, that person will kill someone, that needs to be banned. If the person is taking small amounts, its alright.
Alcohol can be beneficial when taken at right amounts. (Two shots in a day.) The French diet contains a lot of cholesterol, but they will usually take two shots of wine a day, in that way, they keep their cholesteral at a very low level.

They tried it in the past : it failed. They try it in the future : it'll fail.
Why?
Drinking is fun (as long as you do it with friends, and do not drink for the purpose of getting drunk ~ that's stupid. Now, if its just a drink at the party ~ very fun)

I think that abt 90% of the college student population would object strongly to a ban on alcohol -.-* personally i doan drink, but i understand where ppl are coming from when they do.. I think it's a personal choice, a ban on it would limit our freedom.. as long as there are restrictions as to who and under what conditions one can drink, then i dont think that there's anything wrong with it remaining legal.
in response to what KendoTiger said, i derno, to me it seems like for the most part, the purpose of parties (in college) is to get drunk.. or at least buzzed

I guess there won't be a definite answer to that. It depends on which society we're talking about.
In many societies, drinking alcohol is part of daily life and culture. It has been practiced eversince anybody can remember. In the US, probably, that would get a considerable amount of supporters - friends/family of people who have died from drunk driving, most of all.
In that perspective...if anything's gonna get banned, it should be driving. the art of alcohol drinking has been there since forever. compared to it, driving (and i seriously doubt if it is an art) is just a newbie.

hi. im an underage drinker. drinking is something that people want to do. just because u dont want to drink doesnt mean it should be banned. simple solution is that u should go to places where ppl dont drink or where ur comfortable. black ppl dont go to china town because they dont belong there. chinese people dont go to harlem because they dont belong there. if YOU dont like drinking. you shouldnt go to a bar. because YOU dont belong there.

Hahaha p_ma you're 14 and you drink? There's something wrong with that...but now that I think about it I started drinking around 15.....
Honestly I think the drinking age should be lowered. It's ridiculous when you can drive at 16 but can't drink till you're 21. I don't have to stress how dangerous cars can be and how irresponsible some teenagers are when they get into a car. Much much more dangerous than just drinking alcohol (unless you combine the two then that's a double whammy). Plus parents will still be able to influence and somewhat control their kids if they're still living in the same house. Not so when they go off to college and discover alcohol for the first time.
If someone takes away my booze they will die. :-)

I dont think it should be Illegal.
Thats just stupid....
I think that the limit thing is good.. liek no drink driving and stuff..
Cause alcohol on the whole is bad but sometimes itt helps people relax.. and most people just have alittle.
I think drunks should be arrested if they are out in public.
^^"
Then the world is nice....

DON'T TAKE MY ALCOHOL AWAY FROM ME!!!! -clings onto it-
Anyhoo. I don't think that it should be banned. Sure, it's bad. But we usually drink it just to chill out. And in the Chinese society, drinking is a really big thing. Whenever there's this big function like weddings or banquets, they drink and toast to the benefactor's health. So, yeah. It's a big thing.
And if it was banned, think of what could happen. People would be going out buying it illegally. Now, you wouldn't want rampaging teens like me running around looking for alcohol, now do you?

As already stated alcohol will never be banned. But it should be sold with restrictions. And I don't mean, the so-called restrictions they have now. Because people of age drink and cause a big mess. So I think the rules should be a little more restricted. For example, if a person has a point on their licence, for a DWI. Then they should not be sold alcohol. Or if any one has on their record, domestic violence, when drunk, then alcohol to that person should be restricted. The fact of the matter is that alcohol, plays a big role in the nasty behavior of people. When drunk people are nasty, immoral, murderous, or alot of other things. Too much alcohol, in the wrong persons hands, can and in most instances do, cause alot of problems. But drinking in a moderate way, will not hurt anyone. I don't drink. But on speacial occations, I will have one wine cooler. A very mild drink.
